Very good food and service. Good vibe and a good mixture of Afghani and Pakistani dishes. We tried Kabuli pilau and the portions were so big. Food was very delicious and the lamb was so succulent. The prices are so fair considering such a big portion. Fantastic place and will go back when I am in Edinburgh again.

So the people giving good reviews here have, unfortunately, never had proper food. Lamb karahi was basically pre boiled meat and onion gravy mixed . Chappal kebabs had a taste with distinctive smell. Wanted tea that is in the video and images but was told no as it was 25 minutes to closing time. Really? No one came and asked if food was ok like they do in proper restaurants. Disappointed

Incredible food and great service! I've never had food this delicious before. My favorite was the vegetable samosas and the chicken charsi karahi. We also got the lahori karahi, which was also really good! The charsi karahi had a blend of flavors I've never had before and tasted INCREDIBLE! Very tender and well-cooked chicken, and so unbelievably flavorful. I believe our server was the owner, who chatted with us a bit and was very charming and kind. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone! Definitely a hidden gem in Edinburgh.

Chapli Kabab really good but chicken biryani not good.

The food was very good. The restaurant is far too bright and somewhat uncomfortable for my taste; The ambience could still be worked on. We had a nice chat with the owner, who then told us he would serve us Indian tea. Mind you, we hadn't specifically ordered this, but were all the more surprised when the two cups came to £5.50 (!) on the bill, even though the impression was given that the tea would be served as a gesture of goodwill .

A special thanks to Naeem!! I recently visited what is hands down the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food here is nothing short of phenomenal. Their charsi chicken and lamb charsi karahi are perfectly cooked with just the right balance of spices, capturing authentic flavors that are hard to find elsewhere. Each bite is rich, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. The real surprise, though, is their Maghaz Karahi. I had never tried maghaz before and honestly never thought I would. Really tasty, good value for money for Edinburgh - I particularly enjoyed the chicken biryani

Kabuki pilau was quite good. It's the type without much colour but the gentle oil brings flavour and the bite of the grains was good too. Lamb charsi karahi was quite decent too. The combination of spices is quite unique, and despite the description it's not too heavy, quite comforting. The garlic naan was a little dry but was quite unique, and has a bit of crisp. Overall food was quite solid, worth a try

One of the best Pakistani/afghan food spots in Edinburgh. The food was so good my family visited thrice within the week. I’d recommend their lamb karahis with naan, mixed grill and the matka biryani. Food was so well seasoned and warm which was so good during the cold edi weather. Both managers/waiters were really nice and provided excellent service.

We had Shinwari Edinburgh doing the catering for a function for us. Words cannot describe how tasty the food was! We had many dishes and each and every dish had its own authentic taste. All my guests requested a doggy bag for the food! Asif Bhai, who is the owner was so so accommodating from the very start and nothing was a problem for him. The food was delivered in a timely manner and was hot as promised. We have often eaten at the restaurant and service is always fantastic. Thank you so much

I must say mashaAllah I had food at the restaurant and I fell in love with taste. Its authentic, so I booked them for my daughters marriage and every single person praise the food and all my guests cant wait to use shinwari for there functions.

I'll start with bad and end with good. Atmosphere is bland. Table decor is simple with white sheets and plastic tables. Not much wall decor. and the music box at the end gets annoying as it plays the same song over LOUDLY at that [but not so loud thaat you can't chat]. It looks simple which for a quick grab n go is fine but if u want to dine in and have an experience, I don't recommend it. But the round tables are spacious so you can eat comfortably without having to compress your body and limit your hand movement to nanometres. Service is mid. The first thing waiter says ever to us [me and a group of friends] is "wait for a second". No hello, no welcome, just "wait a second". My friend even cracks a joke but doesn't improve the atmosphere. And we had to be moved twice as there're a lot of people which I forgive, it's not his fault. But the inexperience shows. he could've asked how many are comng and judged the best seating based on that but i digress. But moving towards better, they respond to enquiries very fast [i'e seen abysmal staffing service in other places] so its nice to get a response fast. On to the good thing. Food is quite tasty. it's on par with other restaurants but not better. the kebab felt original and not homemade and karahi was nice. I especially loved the fact that they refreshed the sauces and salad [so many restaurants either put very little or charge for more]. weirdly, some complain the food portions looked small but i found them to be normal. But on to the worst part of the food. the fricking naan was an abomination. it was so tiny proprtional to the price that we had to order 10 times to get enough naan for everybody. Ig prices differ between regions in the UK but even London has better naan values than this. £2.50 for what's essentially a homemade rotI? thats £5.00 just for naan which is unacceptable. and to make it worse. the same nan goes for 25p in the UK. unfact u can get a massive one enough to feed 4 people for just £2. So def the worse. to end it, the tea was alright. i like the unique serving clay mug which was original.

After a day out in Glasgow, went to Edinburgh to this restaurant, assuming the food quality and quantity will be the same as other's Pathan restaurants but this one was totally the opposite. I have shared the photos for comparison and information purpose only so that if you are assuming the Big Naan size for the big naan in Birmingham then you are wrong. Always ask to give you the naan in full size and oder the small naans because big naan (£2.50) size is of no different to small naan. Quantity of meat was also less. Service was poor but i don't blame waiters for this but kitchen staff was a bit slow. One suggestion for the owner/manager that please don't just make money from naans by reducing the quantity same for Kababs as well because they were half to the one in Birmingham restaurants and price was the same. I will say if you keep the quality and size the same but increase the price as this will at least make people understand that Edinburgh is so expensive and people will order accordingly mean required quantity. I hope my review will help a lot of customers to decide good quantity food so they don't have to wait for things.

Firstly, the staff was good to interact with. Secondly, the knowledge of the dish and serving portions. Recommendation of the dish and customisation as per the choice was done. Budget friendly. Finally, the food, portion size , taste and quality of the dish. Just fantastic, delicious flavours.

The food was absolutely amazing. It was super tasty, especially the haleem which wasn't as oily as one nornally gets in restaurants. Everything else that we ordered was really good and the mango lassi was super creamy and rich. Stayed in Edinburgh for four days and this was our family's to go to spot for one big meal. Would definitely recommend and the servers are extremely helpful and friendly.

Today I had my lunch here, it’s my first time trying Pakistani food, It was amazing. Highly recommend it. I had Shinawari as a starter and chicken kubbeh with kabuli rice for the main dish. Both come with salad. Also, I ordered Gud wali Chai, All been great. The staff are very welcoming and their service is so nice.

We have been in Edinburgh for 2 days and we have had dinner here both days. We have ordered charasi chicken, roti, biryani and gulab jamun. The taste of food is awesome like the taste of INDIA. I would recommend this restaurant for sure. The service was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed the fish pakora and vegetable pakora followed by chicken biryani, charsi chicken and maghaz, with roti and naan. Service was so good; good customer service, everything was satisfactory. Good location after a visit to Edinburgh Castle - about a 10 minute walk away.

Seriously surprised at the high rating. We ate here and the Paneer Palak was incredibly oily. They did try to remove some of the oil but the photo shows oil pooling in the spoon even after they tried to fix it. It was probably 3x more oily and tasted of nothing other than that. The Chicken Koobideh Karahi was also incredibly oily. Food was simply not good aside from the fried rice. When we asked for a box for takeaway for the naan, the waiter practically tossed it at us. Will not be dining here again and I suggest you find somewhere else for your meal.

I had a disappointing experience at SHINWARI RESTAURANT (Edinburgh)today. They charged me extra for a lemon wedge and even for a simple takeout box. While I understand some places have additional fees, these charges felt excessive and unnecessary. The food was decent, but the nickel-and-diming left a sour taste. I won't be returning or recommending this place based on this experience.

The staff was very rude. Not at all recommend if you want to have meal with peace. If we want to order extra dishes, that one man in the reception literally shuts back at you.

I recently dined at Shinwari Restaurant, expecting a great meal based on the reviews and ratings I had seen. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what was advertised. The food was not as good as I expected, which was the first letdown of the evening. The service was poor, Moreover, the restaurant environment was not particularly clean, which only added to the discomfort. To make matters worse, I strongly suspect that the positive reviews and high ratings are fake. They certainly didn’t reflect the reality of my visit. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Shinwari Restaurant. The food, service, and environment were all disappointing, and the misleading reviews only added to the frustration.

0* Worst customer service, bad quality food with no taste. I Would never return back here. The Manager really needs to learn some management and how to deal with customers feedback. Worst management I have seen! Very unprofessional.

I'm not sure why this place is receiving high reviews, and I question their authenticity. The food is below standard, the so-called karahi is not truly authentic, the atmosphere is poor, there's inadequate ventilation, the toilets are filthy, and the prices are unjustifiably high. It is, by far, the worst Pakistani restaurant in Edinburgh compared to others in many ways.

We were on our last night out on holiday in Edinburgh, from Luton. I have eaten at many many Pakistani and Afghan restaurants. This restaurant was the best tasting Pakistani/ Afghan food I’ve had all over the UK. We were welcomed pleasantly. Service was on point and fast, and the food was so delicious. We ordered the large mixed platter, plus a Charsi curry, with, rice chips and naan. Everything was so on point and the spices in the curry were mouthwatering. The grill was cooked to perfection, even my girls kept asking for more on their plates! Even the lamb in the Charsi was off the bone, so I was able to eat with knife and fork so effortlessly 🥲 I am Asian and cook indian on a daily, hence I know my tastes and spices pretty well. I can tell how excellent the food is here. Outstanding service and amazing food. If Shinwari was in Luton, I’d be going back to eat very often!! I am so glad we chose Shinwari as the last bit of our holiday. We were all so happy. Thank you.

First things first - I am sure a lot of food this place does is excellent, and that was shown by how busy the place was. But we ordered kebab wraps (which are obviously not the main stuff these guys serve) to try and get a quick meal, and they were awful. Whether it was hummus or chicken, our group of 13 - not fussy eaters - found them to be flavourless. It was disappointing - I understand that this might be a ‘cheap drunk’ menu, but it wasn’t that cheap, and I don’t think you should offer stuff that is terrible, even if it’s not your main fare. If you’re going here, definitely avoid the wraps. Otherwise, service was great and it’s clearly very good at the stuff it does well.

Very poor service. Food was super spicy despite me asking not to get spicy. No napkins on table. Alot of racket & noise. Hygiene of the place not the best.

Food was mostly ok but 3 tiny meat samosas for £6 which looked like they came from a supermarket is insulting. The chapel kebabs were also dissapointing, not much meat, mixed with flour.

Almorzamos tarde aquí y la comida era excelente. Pedimos Haleem, Nihari y Shinwari Paratha. La comida salió caliente y el servicio era bueno también. Fue una de las mejores comidas pakistaníes que he tenido. Chati di lassi y kulfi era mediocre, pero el gud chai era delicioso.

Alhumdulilah food was good. Portion size for starters should be bigger. Also if you get nice table covers and a nice centre piece for decoration on all tables that will make the restaurant stand out more. It will look more appealing. Please don't ignore the feedback.

The experience was quite disappointing. The quality of the product or service was poor and definitely not worth the high price. On top of that, the owner (or at least someone claiming to be the owner) was extremely rude and unprofessional. He even seemed proud of his ability to overcharge and deceive others, which is a huge red flag. To make matters worse, he tried to charge extra without any justification. Overall, this place is a complete letdown—overpriced, low-quality, and run by someone who clearly lacks integrity and respect for customers. Avoid if you can!

If you’re looking for a piece of Pakistan in Edinburgh look nowhere else. The food was authentic and unapologetically delicious. Naeem the manager was extremely helpful. Definitely coming again.

Food was delicious way too much for me and my friends best for families but only thing is they dont give bills on tables which makes the payment a bit uncomfortable if you guys are gonna split everything else was amazing

I swear it exceeded all expectations in terms of the quantity of food, the taste and everything, but in general the restaurant is considered popular (you can see there is a big difference between Indian and Pakistani biryani). I will repeat the experience with great energy, especially Bukhari and biryani.

One of the finest dineins I've been to in edinburgh. Best stuff my taste buds got to taste. Came here once just to check out had to come here again to expunge my craving for their Lahori Karahi. Naeem has been a very nice host and both the brothers, Naeem and Nadeem are doing a fabulous job promoting authentic taste of pakistan. Keep it up
