Great spot for a quick French treat or lunch. Would go back!

Very rude staff. I have been in Scotland for 13 years and have never been treated that way. I have wanted to come to this place for a while after seeing their social media, it looked great and I miss French pastries. We had some family visiting on Sunday 2nd March and decided to stop for some pastries/ coffees. We were 5 including a toddler and were first greeted to seat at a table of 4, which was perfectly fine for us. However as soon as we started getting comfy, we could feel we were not welcome because of the pram, a rather small pram since it's a travel pram. As we were getting our toddler out of the pram and putting the pram away, my partner asked the staff if they were okay for us to stay, to which we were answered by with a complete silence. This is when we understood that we were not welcomed and we left. I completely understand the shop is small, it's on a busy road and we would have happily got our pastries to take away if the staff would have been welcoming but the fact they completely unanswered and ignored us was very unpleasant. I have been to many small places with my toddler and his pram and have never felt so unwelcomed. Their customer service has completely ruined the experience. We ended up finding a place close by (L'étoile) and the owners were so much more welcoming and pleasant, it was night and day. They actually did everything they could for us to have a pleasant time, they even offered some pens and colouring books to keep our little one busy. And the pastries were amazing.

Absolutely delicious pastries! We tried ecler, lemon tart and vanilla & raspberry tart. All 3 were amazing. Highly recommend

Chocolate éclair was tasty and not too sweet. Pain au chocolat was also tasty and the bread was good quality. Small cafe with not a lot of seating so note this if you are a large group or have prams.

Me and my daughter had been craving macarons and looking all over the city for them and couldn’t find any. Finally we found this place and it was amazing! Their macarons taste so good and the staff is really friendly.

Picked up a couple of times on TGTG and the food is delightful. The staff are very polite and professional, I would definitely visit again.

If you go here just to eat this tart, you can consider it as a waste of money. The apple tart contains berries, and the tart is really delicious and not as sweet as I expected. I use espresso sparingly,,, But the staff is so friendly... I want to go again to eat this

The perfect little cafe to start your day. The food and coffee were so delicious and the staff was super friendly. The quiche and chocolate croissants were perfect. Had to go back a couple times during our stay because we loved it so much!! Definitely worth a visit!

Los dos capuchinos eran excelentes al igual que los pasteles Edinburgh Paris. No es el lugar más grande, pero si consigo un asiento, vuelvo. La selección de pan también se veía muy bien.

Delizioso localino a Victoria Street. Carinissimi I ragazzi dello staff. Tanta bella e buona pasticceria, l'imbarazzo della scelta. Buono anche il caffè espresso per noi italiani sempre alla ricerca :) Consiglio per una piccola ma deliziosa pausa.

Charming We found this gem whilst escaping the chilly December winds during a walking tour of #Edinburgh. La Barantine @ #VictoriaStreet is a cosy French #patisserie with a wonderful selection of coffee and tea, traditional quiches, and freshly baked breads and pastries. The festive box of 12 assorted French #macarons was an absolute treat! Service was good, and walk-ins are welcome.

La Barantine @ Victoria Street es una acogedora pastelería francesa con una maravillosa selección de café y té, quiches tradicionales, panes recién horneados y pasteles. ¡La caja festiva de 12 macarons franceses variados fue un placer absoluto! Very rude staff whom they requested the family of 5 with a baby to leave the shop to wait outside although we have found a table for 3 and we said we are happy to wait for an extra table of 2. After they agreed , they came back and asked us to leave as there was no space for us!!

This was the best place to start the day. We visited Edinburgh for 5 days and we visited this little charming caffe shop fist for the delicious coffee and pastries, but then for the people that are running the place. Can’t wait to see you again on the next trip.

Lunch with hubby. We shared a leek, cheddar and Brie quiche followed by a lemon tart, both absolutely delicious. Coffee and tea equally as good. Very welcoming and lovely staff.

The coffee, delicious. The food, superb. That lemon pie thing was so good it made my day. And the people, oh so nice. 10/10

Got a pain suisse from here that was delicious. Then the next day I got a tarte aux pomme which was £5.05, soggy and underbaked. Quite disappointed

I just bought a cacaotine today to take out and it really tasted a bit mouldy. I've been a couple of times before but it's the first time that happens. Also the staff seemed overworked, which is not their fault, but it doesn't give a good atmosphere in the shop.

Fantastic French cafe / patisserie in Edinburgh!! Visited many times, their pastries are always gorgeous, very good coffee as well. Could be busy all the time as it’s located in the touristic old town. One of my favourite cafes in town, definitely recommend!!!!

Sin duda, una boulangerie y pastelería de clase mundial. Los postres, el café y el ambiente acogedor era insuperable. También sirvieron pasteles salados y quiche, que para mi disgusto no tuve tiempo de volver y probar! El café era excelente y el personal fabuloso Volveré algún día.

The pattiserie was not what they had recommended to me, a lot of image but the flavor left a lot to fill, the bases of the flans were hard even to cut with a knife, the laminated roll was better and the cafeteria had no difference between the drinks, much coffee even if you ask for a latte. I should adjust that, and even though we arrived an hour before closing, they were out of porcelain serving cups, sweetener, and almond milk to infuse. Nice to visit and take some photos but there are better places to have breakfast and snack.

The hot chocolate wasn't hot and we were made to stand out on the street by the harsh waitress...meh!

Arriving just at closing, they were placing their last takeaway orders, I was pleasantly surprised by the cocoatine, a bread with sweet cocoa flour and dark drops. Very good.

I am French visiting in Edinburgh and was so happy to find a spot with French food. We've returned on 3 instances and the food and service have been great each time. Their quiche are just right, their sandwiches properly french and their soup tastes homemade and had generous serving sizes. They also have a great selection of pastries and macarons that are delicious Fully recommend going there!

It's a really cute place and the baristas are very friendly. I can see that they sincerely serve their customers, and both the coffee and dessert were delicious. I want to go again

Everything was beautifully prepared, perfect patisserie. Unfortunately, the croissant was already a bit dry and the macarons, which looked perfect on the outside, were rock hard, and the filling was no longer good either. We threw them away. Very expensive garbage.

When I asked immediately for the correct order, they said I'd need to pay again and wouldn’t refund the two wrong drinks. I informed them I'd write a review, and they accepted that. So, be sure to double-check your order at the cashier—if there’s a mistake, you won’t get a refund and will have to pay again to fix it.

I went here on a previous trip to Edinburgh two years ago. I had a lovely flat white and a delicious almond croissant served beautifully, with a rich almond flavour quite distinct from what you usually get when you order an almond croissant. I could almost imagine myself in a streetside cafe in Paris! I was eager to go back, and did so on a subsequent trip to Edinburgh a few weeks ago, making the same order as on my first visit. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The staff were friendly and pleasant, but the coffee tasted harsh and the croissant was little different to what you'd get in a supermarket for a pound. Worse, the £4 croissant was served to me in a brown paper bag even though I was eating in! When I asked for a plate, I was given a plastic one. All in all, poor value for over £7, even by expensive Edinburgh standards.

Excellent pastries and coffee Wife and I have been here a couple of times and it's always absolutely rammed. Unsurprisingly because it's a very popular tourist spot and they always have a beautiful selection of tempting pastries in the window. We waited for 10-20 minutes for a table but then when we sat down about half an hour later many tables were empty, so you can definitely pick your moment better. Pear tart, lovely juicy pears and buttery crust. Very nice indeed - but serving it in a paper box was an odd choice. 8/10 Pot of tea, tea is tea... but tea in a cute little teapot hits different. 7/10 Single espresso, very rich flavour and good crema, not so strong it became like a ristretto as some places do. 8/10

Might be the most overpriced bakery that I've visited. 4 pounds for an almond croissant and the same amount for a cinnabun that aren't anything special is just ridiculous. I've had better cinnabuns at a supermarket for a quarter of that price. Come on.

The latte art is impressive! The puff called Paris-Edinburgh stuffed with hazelnut cream (I guess) is the highlight of the visit. Flan framboise with raspberry is different compared to I had. I like it and worth try but I won’t rate it as a highlight. It tastes like pudding and I feel the jammed fruit. I usually not a fan of a base, however, I would say the base is perfect that I am willing to enjoy it. Had macarons as takeaway, they are luring, aren’t they. This is a good place to spend time with.

Wonderful small patisserie in the middle of Edinburgh, victoria’s street ! Nice ambiance and fresh food ! We tried the chocolate eclair, tarte au chocolat, tartelette framboise and to top it all off, we tried their Ecossais sandwich (salmon and cream cheese) by their fresh made bread ! Definitely recommended for a small break while walking around the city

The place is nice, on the colorful street of Victoria. But they didn't serve me what I wanted, nor was the cold tea good... You pay for the place.

Nice bakery with seats but quite expensive. Small Sandwich for £7.95. Two sandwiches around €18...

So little and quaint. The dessert portions were a bit on the smaller side but delicious! I guess quality over quantity. Too small in terms of seating so a bit cramped when crowded on the weekends.

The coffee was really good, raspberry tart just ok but I wish the staff didn’t act like they do not know what I am talking about as I have not said it in French. We are in the UK and I referred to a pastry the best I could have.

It’s become a tourist trap. I used to come here for a quick bite to eat on my lunch a few years ago, it used to be quaint, have decent food and priced fairly. Something has changed since, It’s very expensive for what you get £8 for a small pre-made sandwich, in a brown bag and dumped on the table with a “you work out which one is which”, a pastry that was average at best, the only positive was the coffee, which was a decent standard. £35 for 2 sandwich’s, 2 pastries and 2 coffees, certainly wasn’t worth it and I certainly won’t go out of my way to come here again.

It's close to the Castle, a perfect place to get a cup of coffee with a small bite. We tried croissant and quiche. Both were quite fresh and tasty.

Delicious quiche and pastries. Little crowded in the morning. Super cute cafe! They have 2-3 tables outside where you can sit and eat your breakfast.

Stopped off today out of the rain we tried this as going to Paris in July so we tried this place coffee was excellent and quice was very nice we tried couple of the tarts very tasty and staff very polite def go back in the summer
