Overrated restaurant. I went to this restaurant with expectations that I will get a decent meal. Unfortunately the food is not French as it has no flavor and taste like ordinary fast food

A lovely small French bistro. Classic French dishes that were very tasty. I had an onion soup and a baked Camembert with honey and thyme. The service could do with a bit more attention.

French expatriate, I finally found a culinary establishment that made me relive magical moments from my childhood. A traditional type decoration will surely remind you of your family meals with grandparents. A French welcome and service. A cuisine more than representative of France. I thank all the staff for their kindness, their professional talents and the quality of the dishes. Unavoidable address. See you soon in Edinburgh.

Lovely food, lovely staff. I enjoyed a warm welcome and the staff could not have been more attentive. I had the toulouse sausages with sautéed potatoes and a selection of superb mustards. They were absolutely delicious, well cooked and simply presented with a decent amount of fresh salad. Can thoroughly recommend.

Cute little place for amazing french food. All the staff are very friendly, wonderful ambience. We ordered soup of the day, onion soup, fish of the day and stew of the day. We really enjoyed the food and prices were reasonable. Reservation recommended as the place is quite small.

I don't think there is any Asian discrimination, they are all very polite, but it is true that one person can only eat one appetizer and one main and not be able to finish the dessert.

The starter soup was average, and the black sausage was boiled pork blood and not tasty. as main food I ordered sausage. It's so salty I can't eat it, it burns a lot..... It's not too tasty. Also, the salmon dish is very bland and tasteless. I am reluctant to eat the sauce container containing 4 different sauces because it looks unhygienic. The employees are friendly. It's a waste to pay money to eat it,, I'm disappointed 😢 😢 😢

Quaint bistro on a bustling market street in Edinburgh. Cream of mushroom soup and chicken supremes with blue cheese sauce were great, and the warm chocolate tart was exceptional. Highly recommended.

Superb food in a very casual diner bistro format. We ordered the large Mussels appetizer which had a creamy white sauce that flavored our bread really well. Wichy Wiche ordered the table white wine which complemented the Starter beautifully 😍. For the Main Dishes I ordered the Boeff Bourgogne ( small order feeds 2 teen girls) and she ordered the Quiche Lorraine- Alsace. Both were absolutely excellent. Coming back here for the salmon. Being Americans we arrived at 4:45 and there was no wait to get seated although the restaurant has a 2 hour time limit per customer of 2 hours. Never heard of this in the USA. But I highly recommend this place specially if you are already near the castle.

When one of the reviewer said “the best french onion soup they have ever had in their life”, he/she did not lie😂 it is also the best in my life!! Everything was so balanced and tasty. I ordered escargot and was OK.. a bit small and chewy. Ordered seabass as my main and it had unique balance taste. My partner had coq au vin and the sauce was soooo goooood!! It has nicely presentation too. Do make a reservation! Too bad the signal doesn’t work downstairs and the tables are too close to other guests…

Since 2000, my wife and I wanted to eat the Cheese Fondue. Tonight, on 18th December 2023, we could had Cheese Fondue night. All staffs were very kind. 3 course cheese fondue was very good. If somebody wants to eat foods in this restaurant, I will recommend the booking in advance. Looking forward to visiting again. Thank you!

Really nice and friendly staffed. Helped us downstairs with pram and back up again. Very knowledgeable and well trained staff. My son has a dairy allergy and I am a coeliac and had loads of choices. Staff were very patient and friendly with our toddler also. Food is excellent quality and served very nicely. Highly recommend!

A small French restaurant with a warm welcome of friendly staff and a homey atmosphere. Foods are served in a simple, traditional style but packed with a rich and delicious flavour. What I like most is an unlimited serving of yummy baguettes.

I’ve flown into Edinburgh and have travelled Scotland for the last month. This restaurant outshines any food I’ve had in Glasgow, Aviemore, Inverness, Skye, Loch Ness, Arran Island, or Paisley. Truly authentic, fresh, and delightful.

Perfect meal, we had three courses each paired with the chardonnay and it was gorgeous :) we came here for my girlfriends birthday and I couldn't be happier! The food is perfect, the servers are lovely, and the atmosphere inside isn't intruded on by the noise of grassmarket at all. Definitely recommended!

We didn't book, arrived just before the kitchen closed, but they were happy to accommodate us. The food was great. Highly recommend, and the didn't rush us to leave, despite everyone else having left.

A beautiful Cafe, full of charm that serves some classic French dishes. We had the fixed price lunch menu, which included an entree, mains and coffee and was more than sufficient. The French Onion soup was delicious and the steaks were cooked just the way we liked them. The service was great and we didn't feel rushed. A perfect place for lunch or dinner.

This is brilliant little French restaurant. We had wonderful service , wonderful food and it was a lovely happy atmosphere. We received a lovely warm welcome and immediately felt very relaxed. One of our party speaks French and he enjoyed conversing with the staff in French. Food was delicious - my mussels were sooooo good. Mum had the French onion soup that we all laughed as she was trying to eat it politely but it is always difficult to eat it in a ladylike manner. I had a taste and it was amazing. My sea bass main was yum too - perfectly cooked. The place was buzzing but not in a too loud way that you can’t hear each other. All in all a lovely meal and a very happy memory for us.

Absolutely brilliant little place. The food was downright amazing, portions generous and prices reasonable. Wonderful service and ambience. It got crowded while we were there, but I don't think you need to book. We had 4 starters: mussels, escargots, baked camembert and friet goat's cheese. The mussels were among the best we ever had, large and plump. The escargots were perfectly cooked and nicely tender. The cheeses were just delicious. If you like French food, this is a must 😊

Great food, so good we returned the following evening for dinner. Slightly disappointing to see the exact same dishes on the fixed price menu as the night before, although the food was so good that we ordered exactly the same anyway! It's also very reasonably priced, and on our two visits the service was very good. It's comfortable but quite small inside so be prepared to be very close to the folks on the next table. If the weather allows, sitting outside would be great as Grassmarket is beautiful, almost Parisian.

Superb food and great value. Given the unusually warm weather outdoors in the Grassmarket was ideal. We had a lunch/brunch menu on a Sunday.

My friend and I (we’re Asian btw) visited this restaurant with French cuisine and expected a good experience since there were many happy customers sitting at the tables outside. But boy were we wrong, since we were about to experience the worst meal of our entire trip. 1. There were indeed plenty customers waiting to be served but there were other waiters that were free but were standing around and chatting to each other, leaving my friend and I waiting at the entrance like idiots. We were finally led to our table after the other waiters finally graced us with their attention. 2. My friend and I had to wait another while to be noticed (again) to be given the menu and served plates, cutlery, water. I waved called out for them multiple times, even to the point that I would stand up a little to be a little more obvious, but they would hardly notice us. Even when they eventually did notice us, we had to wait another while for them to take our orders. 3. My friend who had learnt French for quite a while tried ordering in French, and while she ordered, she pointed at the menu at the same time. However, the waiter asked “what did you say?” in a weird tone twice as if to mock my friend’s attempt. Mind you my friend was pointing at the order on the menu at the same time, and I know that my friend may not have had the best French accent, but there was simply no need for him to shoot her down like that, and he could’ve confirmed the order in a better manner. 4. While my friend and I were waiting for the food, we could not help but notice that the waiters treated the other customers (primarily white) way nicer than how they treated us. They would ask them if the food was good, they would introduce the ingredients they used in their food, they would have friendly banter, and they would even teach a little French to the customers that did not speak French. Nevertheless, the waiters were completely poker faced whenever they served us. At first I thought it was because we spoke English and the waiters were mostly French, so that communication may have been hard. But no, the waiters could speak perfect English with the other customers, and it made it hard to understand why we were treated so differently. 5. Eventually we finished our food and we asked for the bill, that was the only time the waiter was a little more amicable towards us. The waiter gave us an ironic “voilà!” when they presented the bill to us. While we were confirming the bill, the waiter would not ask how the food was even if they did that to virtually every other customer.

The service was terrible here. The waitor was extremely cold to Asian customers. I ordered in French at first and pointed to the menu as well. The waitor kept asking what I was talking about and finally took the order when I spoke English. All the waitors avoided talking to us afterwards and our dishes came late. They were very hospital to other white customers. We were extremely offended. Post a photo just to prove we ate there.

Whilst the food was very good quality and the prices fair, the staff were clearly overwhelmed. We waited an hour and a half after our drinks and starters for the main course which is not really acceptable. The waiters were not particularly attentive either and I think this reflects the fact that the restaurant is understaffed - this is a shame because the food is excellent and authentically French and the atmosphere outdoors was lovely on a nice summer evening.

We were visiting the Grassmarket on our holiday in Edinburgh as we were going to watch a dance performance that afternoon, and needed to find the venue. We saw this restaurant by chance, and decided to return at lunchtime after a bit more sightseeing. We were delighted by the food, service and decor. It is real French food and the wine is reasonably priced too. We liked the old French adverts , there are even some on the loo, on the walls. The Onion soup was just like what we have had in Paris, and the main courses were good too. WE did not have a dessert but they looked tempting.

The food was really very good and we really enjoyed it all. Definitely worth a visit even if only for the quiche.

Arrived on spec at 13:30 and thought we’d be struggling for a table as the seating outside was full however we were warmly greeted and quickly lead inside where we were shown to our table. The lunchtime set menu is great value at £19.00 which includes a starter, main and a coffee. The food is excellent and the service is efficient with staff being courteous and friendly. Would recommend to family and friends.

We booked this restaurant for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner and not only we are not disappointed but Antonin has reserved the best table for us in the restaurant and we had a superb evening. I had the best french onion soup ever. The food were delicious and service was superb. One of the best and we would recommend this restaurant strongly if you are in Edinburgh.
