We had lunch yesterday 19 October. We had a wonderful experience. Everything was perfect . The staff are amazing, one and all. The service is impeccable. The food is truly exceptional. If you get the chance to go here, do not hestitate. I cannot find fault with anything at all. We chose the Market Place menu and I was fortunate enough not to be driving , so chose the wine pairing with my menu. It was so worth it. I had an English wine for the first time and highly recommend it. My husband was driving and only had a sip of each of mine, but he agreed totally that the choices were perfect. We were both bowled over by the whole experience .I am looking forward to going back as soon as possible.

We had the 25th anniversary menu and everything was excellent! We have been a few times and this place doesn't disappoint, amazing food and wine, great service and nice atmosphere. Why they haven't made it to 2 star I have no idea (and it far exceeds a 3 star we visited elsewhere in the UK recently)

Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish: Super warm welcome from Irma and her team, the amuse bouche were sensational, in particular the beetroot macaroon was totally unexpected in the most positive way! Rest of the degustation menu was of the same, and we struggled to decide which one we preferred. The presentation, the dishes, the atmosphere, everything was perfect! As it was pouring rain when we left, Irma let us one a spare umbrella which was lovely! With some many high quality restaurants in Edinburgh, Martin Wishart definitely left its mark and will be on our short list for special occasions.

We actually booked my birthday meal here last year. Small restaurant but with excellent use of mirrors to keep it light and airy feeling. The Good: Service was friendly, professional & informative, food was technically impressive & produce was high quality. The Bad: Decor, ambience & lighting felt like a retirement home. The flavors were muted and unfortunately bland. Obviously on purpose to highlight the produce, though it was a theme throughout every dish. Nothing popped. Under seasoned, underwhelming & overpriced. Beige, bland & boring unfortunately. Great for old folks that don't like bold flavors or to be challenged. Wish we knew before booking.

The most unaccommodating and rude staff. Do not eat here, they do not deserve their Michelin star simply for the reason of having a rude and disrespectful staff. Save your money and go anywhere else. Far better food and diverse menu at other establishments like Cote, Number One, and The Kitchin.

One of the best meals we've had. We were visiting Edinburgh and booked ahead for their lunch menu, which is very reasonably priced for the quality. We were treated to several amuse bouchés before our main meal which we weren't expecting, and these were delicious and very well thought out. The starter of scallop squid ink risotto was exquisite - definitely my favourite course. The halibut was perfectly cooked. The dessert of dulcey chocolate cremeux tart was an absolute triumph. The staff went the extra mile to make sure we're looked after (including offering us more bread to mop up the delicious butter and accompaniments). All in all a spectacular meal!

The food was good, but for a Michelin star restaurant we felt there was a lot lacking. We tried the tasting menu and the best parts of the meal were the amuse-bouche at the beginning and the petit fours at the end. The middle courses were good, but nothing overly inventive or surprising. The real disappointment was the main course, which for our night was grouse. My piece had a thick piece of silver skin running through it that I could not cut through, as well as a particularly unappetising vein at one end. I just left it on my plate and ate everything around it. They never acknowledged it or asked me why I didn’t eat my main course, even when they cleared everything away, which I thought was quite strange for a restaurant that prides itself on service. And speaking of service, they were nice, but there were cracks - for example, when someone poured my water some spilled on the table, but this was never wiped up. Overall, if you’re going to have a Michelin star and a high price tag then the expectations of guests are going to be elevated, and disappointingly they just didn’t hit the mark for what this restaurant professes to be.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday as we have done several times, for lunch. My husband had bought me a voucher so we never checked price beforehand. £115, excluding drinks is a MASSIVE hike in previous cost. Whilst I fully realise that times have changed, we visited first in 2020, the cost was £38.50 excuding drinks. We felt that around £75 would have been more appropriate. We enjoyed the experience as always but found the menu a bit "daring" given that there are only 2 choice for each course. Sweetbreads and snails were involved!!! Sadly, we won't be back.

Went for the lunch, rather than tasting menu so was pleasantly surprised to find that the amuse bouche (and bread) actually came with 6 or 7 different simple, but tasty, flavours for an immediate sense of variety to start. Somewhat more of a traditional vibe with lots of marble, very formal waiters (it took a few attempts to confirm that one amuse bouche was basically just a hash brown, rather than whatever convoluted name it was introduced as), mirrors and an ever so slightly colder feeling atmosphere. But the decor is still fresh and, importantly, comfy. Great service from the waiters who never let our water run dry, and were always on hand. However somewhat disappointing that after specifically asking for the return of the drinks menu once, it went missing again. Compounded by the inability to make a White Russian which I asked for, partially hoping one could be made and partially having had my drinks menu whisked away, so I had to guess! Perhaps the lack of White Russian was not such a bad thing, as when we got hot drinks after dessert, they were served with milk that was close enough to it's use by date that it curdled into lumps floating in the coffee! Having said that, a swift apology and replacements followed quickly, and I suppose it's not necessarily reasonably to expect everywhere to have a well stocked bar that can cater to White Russian cocktails, milk that is fresh and the hazelnut flavour I requested for the hot chocolate (it was still good, without) Food was faultless, with terrifically simple flavours (gespatcho, tappenade, tomato salsa, crusty bread etc.) to start and more complicated flavours for main (pork jowl) and to finish (chocolate opera cake)

I was just underwhelmed. I put this place on a pedestal and it didn't meet my expectations. The atmosphere was fairly sterile and it felt like I was in a retirement home. The food was presented beautifully and with quality ingredients but just didn't wow me. It lacked any sort of bold flavor and was more mild and subtle. I get the desire to present quality fresh ingredients but they just sort of melted together. We did the tasting menu and I only enjoyed maybe 3 out of the 7-8 things presented. The accompanying wines were great, and nice to see a variety. Overall Ive been more satisfied at other fine dining establishments for half the price. I left here feeling like it wasn't worth it.

My wife had a voucher for lunch for 2 that she got for her birthday. This was a fantastic lunch with the food and service utterly brilliant. The amouse bouche came in 2 courses and was spectacular. there was beetroot macaron filled with horseradish cream, gazpacho with burrata, a potato rosti topped with cream cheese and caviar, seaweed cracker with avacado and salmon and finished with a shot of orange, parsley and spinach juice. Wow. There them came fabulous bread with seaweed butter, tapanade and a warm tomato topping. We both had the terrine of pork knuckle and foie gras. great texture as well as flavour. For mains I had the stone bass with mussels topped with almond crumb in a light curry and leek sauce, it was magnificent. My wife had the confit duck leg with potatoes beans and peas, I obviously had a taste of it and can confirm that it too was delicious. For desert I had the chocolate mousse with raspberries and my wife had the lavender mousse with apricots. Apart from looking great they were both fabulous. We went for dinner at Martin Wishart last week, first time to a michelin star restaurant and the experience didn't really live up to what we were expecting. A fair bit of this came down to the service, with basic mistakes like: - the chair held open for the man instead of the lady upon arrival. - staff was pushy about pre-meal drink despite us choosing the wine pairing option, then didn't have the Martini we ordered (someone please nip to the shop and get a bottle of Martini!), they offered a replacement but only consulted one of us and rushed away without making sure the other person was also happy with the replacement offered. When finally I got my pre-meal drink I didn't even get the time to finish it, the wine pairing was already starting! - the risotto and scallop with truffle special was served with just fork, no knive to eat(?). - when asked what coffee we could order as part of the "coffee and petit fours" the waitress couldn't answer, told us to just say anything and she would go to check if it's fine(?). We still had very good food description by one member of staff and the sommelier also did a great job, he was very nice and knowledgeable, the wine pairing really worked and was definitely well worth it. The food was generally good but nothing really wowed us which is the biggest disappointment. The presentation was always very nice but quite a few dishes are things I cook often enough so I can tell it was cooked as expected but nothing really tasted like something incredibly good or worth the £450 we spent in the end. These £450 included also a gratuity of 12.5% which is a lot on a already high bill. I'm also disappointed as this means that, despite being michelin star, the restaurant is still not paying its staff more fairly than staff of the local pub. PS: there was a typo in the menu - mascarpone became 'mascpone' ;)

I have waited several weeks before writing this review because I wanted to be certain I was not being rushed along by the reputation. So the quick answer is that this restaurant is excellent. We chose from the set lunch menu and there was enough choice to keep the two of us happy. Fish choices very good and we paired them with an excellent Alsace white. The A' La Carte menu is pricey but looked wonderful as we watched courses being carried to other tables. Our food was well presented, perfectly timed and served with just the right amount of explanation. A word about the service. Attention to detail was incredible, I can't remember the last time I had this level of attention from staff. They managed to be helpful, efficient, understanding and knowledgeable without being condescending. Truly great service. Is there a down side. Yes, but it is minor. I am not a fan of modernist high design dining rooms. Perhaps this would have a better ambience had we dined in the evening. I am certainly going to give it a try to find out.

3.5. A good experience - alright for a special occasion, but I expected better (in certain areas) for a restaurant that’s supposed to be one of the topmost in Scotland. Food is classic French, done by a Scottish chef and the restaurant has been around for several decades. The restaurant is small-ish, with simple decor; some tables are awkwardly arranged so asked to be moved. Service was cordial but lacking. I’d expect the waitstaff to give more background on the restaurant, the provenance of the food, and details on what we were eating - such details were not supplied. This changes the dining experience. Frustratingly, cups, cutlery and plates lingered on the table long after serving their purposes. Nobody was bussing. Things were cluttered. The restaurant arranged desserts in a delightfully ornate arrangement for a birthday … but they initially forgot about said birthday, and had to confiscate what we were eating before re-presenting. All in all, great food and a fun experience, but not super deserving of £600 for 3.

I have to say that the food was good with few dishes worthing the price but in average... Overpriced. The ambient is not what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant, furniture looks from IKEA... Actually it reminds me to Stansted Lounge. Also, the timing between dishes a bit long... We chose the Tasting menu and spent around 3h in the restaurant. In general, it does not worth spending 135£/p (drinks not included) and would not recommend to come.

To start with I would say the food is very nice and tasty, however £135/pax without any drinks is a bit pricey for what you got. We also expected a different experiencie for a Michelin star restaurant, the venue itself looks outdated, cold, grey, uncool... if we had to choosed based on the appeareance of the place we wouldnt have ever choosed it for the bill you are paying.

We made a last minute decision to come here for lunch after a forced cancellation elsewhere and it was a great decision. We had a very warm welcome from several pleasant staff members. We opted for the set lunch menu and were served several amuse...

Writing this review after dining at Martin Wishart ten months ago. Absolutely amazing food and service. My friend and I discovered this gem a day before and we both enjoyed every course. Definitely recommend it!

Overpriced for what was offered and served. Quality was reasonable but portions miniscule. Would not recommend or return.

I really enjoyed the food here. I had the tasting menu and thought was well executed overall. Reason for four stars 1) halibut ceviche - I love the combination but the passion fruit gel overpowers the flavored which tips the balance 2) ravioli - nice and rich sauce, Al dente pasta but they couldn’t tell me what’s inside the ravioli 3) red cabbage with the deer is a bit too rich. Couldn’t finish it 4) while I love the dessert, the flavour combi works especially when you have a bite of everything. But the delicious maple pecan granola takes a lot of effort and pardon my etiquette while cutting into it And did I mention I love the kombu butter with the sour dough bread

We had an exceptional dinner tonight served by wonderful staff. The restaurant was warm and comfortable and very welcoming on such a cold winters night. Tables are well spaced out and it never felt like we were intruding on others conversations like some restaurants. We...

An absolutely fantastic meal. We tried the regular and vegetarian tasting menus, both were excellent with many of the best dishes coming from the vegetarian menu. This is the best fine dining in Edinburgh.

It is remarkable to step from the busy street into the contrasting calm of Martin Wishart’s restaurant at The Shore. Although not a huge room, the use of mirrors, blond wood and striking light fittings create a peaceful, ordered environment. Tables aren’t too close together...

I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Bonham. The staff and service couldn’t have been more pleasant. The rooms and decor of the hotel were perfect for a wintery weekend in Edinburgh . My favorite aspect was the 24 hour serviced bar in the beautiful bar room. And I would like to personally thank the night staff who found my passport which has slipped out of the pages of the book and handed this in the the front desk to save me a last minute nightmare! Will definitely return when I am next in Edinburgh. Than you!

Went here based on highest google review in the area but was sorely disappointed. French onion soup was good but then went down from there. We got the fish of the day and it was mediocre and flavorless. After we ate our fish I asked for the check. It came about 20mins later. Waitress looked as if she could care less about catering to our pace to go sightseeing. Boo on Petit Paris.

Maybe we came on a bad day. Don't like leaving bad reviews but I'm not sure why this place has so many great reviews either. Easily one of the worst meals I've ate out in a while. Staff seemed friendly enough. Nice restaurant interior, but the food was honestly terrible let alone overpriced. I ordered the tuna steak, and it was inedible (raw) undercooked and rubbery. So I thought I'd eat the chips on the side, but then I found a hair. We ordered potatoes and there was only 4!? The food wasnt even fresh and the serving portions were stingy (not small in the delicate French/ gourmet portion sizing) like they just ran out of food? I don't know. Our first time at Cote, will be our last.
