This was our second visit to this lovely cafe. You will find fantastic food with a Scottish twist and great hospitality. The salmon flatbread was delicious. Lots of lovely cakes as well as some Scottish themed gifts for sale. It was certainly busy but that speaks for itself. No surprise it seems to be a well known spot with the locals. If you are travelling on the A68 or visiting Jedburgh it is well worthy of a lunch or coffee stop.

Amazing food and service at Prego Carluke for a special family meal with my brother visiting from America .Fillet steaks were cooked to perfection and the rest of the meals were also great . There is a good choice of wine and drinks and the waiting staff could not have been more helpful. Fab restaurant to have locally ⭐️ 😀

A relative that had been previously and who had enthused about it, that combined with a recommendation from local B&B owner and previous reviews we were expecting something exceptional, however we left feeling disappointed. We were advised to book yet were the only people in. The restaurant is very small but seemed very clean and bright. Staff were pleasant and attentive. We ordered 2 mains, a bhuna lamb and chicken tikka masala, one portion of mushroom pilau rice, 2 poppadoms and a peshwari naan, one large bottle, one small bottle of Cobra. The meal was served very quickly, almost too quickly. The rice was good but the strange thing about both main courses was although there was plenty of meat, there were no pieces of lamb or chicken bigger than a sugar lump. The sauce with the tikka tasted excessively sweet and the bhuna sauce had very little texture, it was almost pureed. The naan was over sweet and the colour of an orange hi-vis jacket, the mango chutney was an unusual deep red in colour. We dine out at Indian restaurants quite frequently and have never had meals served with such tiny pieces. The bill was just short of £60 which seemed excessive, the two beers alone came to over £12. The speed from ordering to the meals getting presented so quickly suggested maybe the sauces were pre-made rather than cooked to order. Would think twice about returning based on the high price.

This restaurant had a great atmosphere and welcoming service, but I was let down by the food. The oysters were great, as was the beetroot salad and the cod my partner ordered. I ordered the pasta with Jerusalem artichokes, but really didn’t enjoy it. The sourdough bread also seemed on the stale side. I had been excited to try this place and was hoping for better. I would only go back for a drink and some bar snacks. I spent around £100 for the two of us.

We book several months ago to have the Christmas menu tonight. The booking experience was poor as we were required to fill out an Excel spreadsheet to order our three courses, like ordering from a catering company. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were brought to our table and were told we would be greeted and served by one of the staff members very soon. However, not until 15 minutes did one of them come to our table to suddenly bring us the first courses and took our drinking orders. No greeting or introduction or anything between. First courses: (1) Beetroot salad was ok. (2) Prawn cocktail was mediocre with non-toasted, cold breads. Second courses: (1) Roasted turkey was dry with thin gravy tasted like that made from gravy granules. Overcooked brussels and tasteless roast potatoes. (2) Salmon was on the verge of overcooked and the “crushed new potato” underneath was indeed a fishy coarse-mashed potato. Again, the sauce tasted like tinned white sauce. Third courses: (1) Christmas budding was quite hard and chewy. (2) Lemon tart was not bad but not different from store bought. In conclusion, we think we paid for overpriced food and non-existing service. Avoid for special occasions.

We stayed at the Rowan Tree travelling up to the North West and booked in for dinner bed and breakfast. We were travelling with our dog and the hotel was more than accommodating, putting us up in the bar, next to the fire for dinner. The dinner was superb, being a vegetarian and a meat eating couple, we often find that one of us does not always get a great meal. We both had an AMAZING meal and staff were brilliant throughout.
