We had dinner two times and were pleased by the kindness of the staff each time. They do their utmost to give you a nice evening. Sea food is just as it should be fresh and simply dressed but delicious, and with a nice bottle of wine, youre dinner is top. Good value for money and pre booking is certainly advised !

One of our group was keen to visit this restaurant so had booked. We arrived at the time we had booked for, not early, but were told that our table was not ready and we would have to wait outside. Wait outside in the pouring rain? Yes. Or come back later. Personally I'd have gone to the nearby pub and probably not bothered to come back given that 'welcome'. But the others wanted to stay. The food was decent but not spectacular given the prices. We were splitting the bill, and then discovered they didn't take any cards. Most of us didn't have much cash. That's okay, you can pay by bank transfer - or rather it would have been possible to pay by bank transfer had there been an adequate mobile phone signal or wifi, but there was neither. Half of us managed to scrape together enough cash. The rest tried and tried and tried to make a bank transfer which eventually went through after ten minutes of attempts.

If you go to Tobermory and are lucky enough to snag a reservation, this is the place to go. The freshest scallops we have eaten and an extensive menu based on what's fresh that is offered in a wide range of presentations. Every plate that came out looked incredible. I ordered a bowl of cauliflower blue cheese soup and it was amazing. The staff is also wonderful. Please note: they were CASH ONLY this season so be prepared when you go.

Had such an amazing evening at Cafe Fish. Seafood was just as it should be, fresh and simply dressed. The accompanying bread and butter and salad were equally delicious. We had the scallops with chorizo and lobster. Loved it and wished we lived locally so we could eat there all the time.

We booked a reservation here around six months ago and were looking forward to it. Our time slot was from six until eight. We walked from our apartment not wanting to be late. We arrived about ten minutes early. We gave our name to the young lad in front of us and a lady sat at the table directly in front of us looking at a computer screen said they’re early. She never looked up or smiled. I found that rather rude. The waitress that served us was very nice and the fish pie was delicious. I also felt the prices were at the top and of a cafe.

Would recommend the fish curry, it was super tasty. We wanted to go back on our last night, but as it was a Sunday (no fishing) it was closed. Pre-booking a must as many people were turned away

This was by far the best seafood we had in Scotland in 17 days (including a Michelin star restaurant)! First off, we missed our ferry, and we were so disappointed we would miss dinner, as we booked our reservation weeks in advance. I called the restaurant and the woman that answered was so kind. She said that, if we took the next ferry, we'd be 15 minutes late and they would hold the table. I had the Smoked Fish Platter which was very large and very tasty. My husband had a wonderfully flavored scallop special and, while it was smaller, it was very good. We'd agreed to share our meals in advance; so, it all worked out. We ended with ice cream which was so creamy and delicious. Thanks so much for your hospitality and yummy food.

This place is fabulous and really is a must if you visit Mull. from the outside Cafe Fish does not look too impressive - but do not let this out you off. We waited over an hour for a table (we hadn’t booked - I’m not 100% sure if you can) - given the reviews we had read on TA nobody minded waiting for the table. It was a beautiful day and we sat on one of the tables outside with a drink.Anyway, the inside is lovely - very relaxed atmosphere. It’s a tiny restaurant so you can see the chefs preparing the food - loved this touch. The food we had was honestly one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had in my life - beautifully served and so very aesthetically pleasing, but also tasted absolutely delicious. I ordered the fish finger sandwich, and still salivate now thinking about it! We have all said we would visit the Isle of Mull again purely to visit this restaurant.

We stayed in Tobermory for 2 nights while on a tour with Rabbie's Tours (AMAZING experience). I booked this restaurant before we left home, as the reviews on Tripadvisor were very favourable. Glad I did! This is a tiny restaurant and it books very quickly. If we hadn't booked ahead, we would probably not have chosen it; the building doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. But when you climb the stairs to the second floor and enter the restaurant, it all changes. It's a pretty room, with a lot of ambiance and a lovely view of the harbour. We were very lucky to be given the corner table with the best view. But the food!! THAT'S what really counts, and it was EXCELLENT! I ordered a seared halibut off the specials menu that had a char on the skin that is very different from anything I've ever tasted. The fish itself was fresh, firm and wonderfully seasoned. For appetizer, I had a seafood chowder. I could have eaten it as a main course, there was so much. My husband had the potato cake with mushrooms and truffle oil. It was heavenly. At the end of our meal, our waiter (great service by the way) removed our plates and I told him I was rating our meal "10 bites". As in, I ate 10 bites more than I should have, but it was far too good to stop.

We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back.

The restaurants is very small, lively and clearly very busy. We were lucky to get a table on the evening we wanted, as the person making the booking made clear. The tables were small and close together - nowhere to put bags, cameras or coats without them being in danger of being trodden on. Indeed, choosing mussels for starters, requiring two bowls, made jockeying for space on our table tricky to say the least. I eat mussels often, and this was the first restaurant I have never been offered either a finger bowl or one of those pre-packed moist tissues to mop up with afterwards, The main courses were disappointing. Instead of crab risotto with my fish, I was presented with a seafood risotto. Leaving most of it, I was told that the chef apologised - he forgot to change the 'Specials' menu on the board. But no attempt was made to alter the board or provide an alternative. The sauce vierge on my friend's fish dish had little, if anything, in it apart from olive oil. The service was rushed and there was quite a large mistake on the bill when it arrived. This was immediately corrected, but added nothing to our overall impression. We will not be back.

We ate at Café Fish twice in our time in Tobermory, and almost all of the food (scallops, John Dory, skate, mussels and more) was excellent. The single exception was the salt and pepper squid, which focused too much on the coating at the expense of the squid. Everything else, though, was top notch seafood - fresh, local, beautifully presented in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The location of the restaurant, also, is ideal. Cafe fish was fantastic. I would eat here every night if I lived here. The atmosphere was casual, the food amazing, the wine list excellent- a good Sancerre, and not particularly pricey. Started with a Tobermory gin and fever-tree tonic and the rest is captured in the pictures. You do have to make a reservation and need to climb the stairs to the first floor and cope with 80s music, (which we, incidentally loved). We chose our food from the specials board and were spoilt for choice. The place was really busy but calm and efficient service. We were fortunate to have a window seat and enjoyed a fine sunset and saw the lifeboat come in to dock for the night. Brilliant experience and food but don’t expect frills!

Our 2nd visit to this quirky wonderful restaurant and it was just as good as it was 2 years ago. The ambience is great as is the service but best of all the food is amazing. How the chef creates her brilliant dishes from such a tiny kitchen is amazing in itself! We both had the specials which there is a lot to choose from. I had Hake in champagne sauce with crab crushed potatoes which was devine. My husband had the scallops with brown butter and bacon and again he demolished the plate. We overheard the chef talking to a couple of guys that rebooked for Sunday and it appears they have been in nearly every night of their stay, that’s how good this restaurant is. One thing to remember is you need to book. You can very rarely walk in this number 1 restaurant and expect to get a table.

I had a stunningly original and tasty ‘monkfish tacos’ (with a Mexican twist) while my son had a fish pie with magnificent rich, creamy, smoky sauce. Both huge portions so we didn’t need desserts. I love the way that the restaurant (‘café’ is misleading) operates its own boat. Whatever it catches that afternoon is on the menu in the evening. This is how seafood restaurants should be. The menu looks great and the introduction to the food talks about the fish being landed and cooked that day. Sadly that wasn’t our experience. We ordered the cold seafood platter for £35 and a fish stew. The stew was well flavoured and we’d have no complaints. However the platter had crab claws that had definitely not been cooked fresh. There were two oysters one of which was tiny. There was nothing on the plate to warrant a £35 price. I wonder if this place survives on the hype of Tobermory providing good shell fish. Unfortunately it isn’t served here. The waiters remark of ‘better luck next time’ maybe acknowledges the problem we had.

As everyone in the cafe had more or less just ordered their food, there was about a 40 minute wait for our food to be prepared. We didn't mind as there was a nice atmosphere in the cafe and it was pouring down outside. The cafe has nice views across Tobermory harbour. The food was amazing, I had a seafood Thai curry which was delicious. All seafood caught locally and sometimes on the plate within 2 hours! The cafe doesnt take lunch bookings, but does for evening meals. Can't wait to visit the island again, so we can try some more treats on the menu. Our three year old also enjoyed his meal. Thanks again.

My starter of squat lobster was delicious but the main of seafood Tom Yam was particularly divine. The Affogato dessert with a shot of Cafe Patron rounded it off beautifully.

Nice unpretentious place, extremely busy, booking essential. Friendly Staff. Good Menu with plenty of choice, daily specials, good value for money and the food was lovely. Would recommend highly to others.

Informal, fast and friendly service, superb food. Not cheap for lunch but great value nevertheless. We will be back tomorrow or the next day. Or both. (Only if you like fresh seafood, mind.)

We spent three weeks in Scotland with lots of time on the Hebrides. This was the best seafood and meals we had. We went there two nights straight. Everything they serve is from their own boat that brings in the fish and shellfish each morning. If you are there when it arrives, you can watch what you'll eat that night. The grilled seafood platter for 1 or 2 persons is well worth the price. We also got local halibut and other local catches. Local oysters very good as well. This is a very unpretentious restaurants, though they don't allow small kids. If you want to come, make certain you have reservations well ahead of time. You will not get in without them. We watched couple after couple who walked in, just to be kindly turned away. There are times when the restaurant appears to have empty tables and they could squeeze more people in. However, they are all about quality, not quantity. We loved it.

Fresh local seafood and a surprisingly selection of different dishes. We even saw all of the fresh scallops coming in off the boats that would be used in the restaurant. Loved it.

Ok. I have gone for 4 stars. Relaxed service I do get, I enjoy that, in fact. But this is kids serving in an off hand manner. Like many tourist spots in the islands (Skye being the simplest downright ignorant) we are often treated with an air of irritation to the locals. Don’t forget folks, you can’t exist without us!!!! So...... the setting is awesome. The langoustine butter sauce is amongst the best I have ever tasted. The fish stew was better, by a long way, than Am Birlinn over in Calgary, which in itself was fantastic! But what stole the show.... was the Harissa Chicken. Truly an astounding dish. Rich in texture and depth of flavour. Weird that a fish restaurant nails Arabic food so perfectly..... and, for those doubters, one of our party was Arabic..... so there! But please, we live for one another, so please warm up to us, the paying guests!

We stopped here to have our lunch today and were thinking it was just a cafe but we were mistaken! Wow, the food was lovely. Yes three of us only had fish finger sandwiches but they were magnificent and my husband had fish and chips (which were far cheaper than the ones in Oban and tasted a lot better) I have to mention my daughters “child’s” meal- it was huge and lovely fresh haddock goujons with homemade chips and the size was massive. I haven’t experienced rude staff here, the young lady that served us was very polite and appreciated my help when I offered to help her clean away the mess left by the previous habitant of our table!! It’s lovely here (could do with more outside seating),

Okay, we were blessed by excellent weather and we sat outside in the sunshine which did bias our enjoyment of the meal. But just look at the views we had over our lunch and all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco! What more could one ask for? The fish was sublime and cooked to perfection and the staff, friendly and welcoming. My advice? Don't eat fish anywhere else in Tobermory, although I have to admit that we didn't try the fish 'n chip van on the pier, that is also supposed to be excellent, as it is listed by Routiers. Simply not enough time!

The options are varied and the fish is all so fresh so you can't really go wrong. You usually need to book and it is frequently very busy-especially in the main summer months. We had the Halibut which was gorgeous and the Scallops which made for an excellent meal. Because it is so busy it can feel a little hectic and therefore a teeny bit lacking in customer orientation. But as they advertise it is an informal experience I guess that is fair enough. All in all you have to try it as the fish is really superb.

We went to this restaurant when visiting Tobermory and glad we did. I ordered from the specials menu and had linguine pasta with crab, clams and queenies. It was so tasty best pasta dish I have ever had. My husband had a mackerel open sandwich and that was also very tasty. If you like fish this place is a must. Another bonus was sitting outside overlooking the bay in the sun.

We ate here two nights in our week in Tobermory. The fish is excellent and the atmosphere lovely and busy with everyone enjoying the superb food. The Cullen skink was the best I have ever had and we have been raving about the halibut ever since.

Took us at really short notice as we were let down by a dinner reservation last minute. It was early Tuesday evening and they filled up fast. People were being turned away so I highly recommend booking in advance. Fish pie was great - really hefty portion! My husband had the halibut fillet special which came with crab and samphire risotto. He was happy with his choice! Tasty food but definitely on the expensive side.

I am a self confessed seafood junkie. I search out quality seafood and even amongst the great seafood outlets on Mull Cafe Fish is a standout. Small but perfectly formed this restaurant is generally pretty full and I know why. A choice of fish that extends beyond the usual, cooked and served in a lovely friendly atmosphere. The food is amazing and I loved every minute of the experience. I need to go back - soon!

Arrived at 730pm on a rather wet evening went to ask if there was any chance to get a meal - we had travelled from London and had a long journey to Mull - yes we looked a bit weather beaten - and yes we guessed it might have been fully booked - but we was met with a stuck up youngest - who looked down his nose at us - wouldn't have eaten there even if there was a place

We'd heard about cafe fish and being seafood lovers we had to try it. Most certainly not disappointed. We went for lunch and were concerned that they don't take bookings for lunch - it is first come, first served - but we got there sharp 12.00 Noon and got a table no bother, although it filled up quickly after that. The food and service were excellent and we will certainly go back.

On our first visit my daughter and I shared an enormous sea food platter in garlic and herb butter which included oysters, spider crab, crab claw, mussels, queenies, langoustine, served with artisan bread. It was absolutely delicious as was the chocolate pot with whisky dessert. All washed down with a glass of champagne. The waiters/waitresses were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our meal so much we returned three nights later...this time my daughter had a starter of muscles in garlic and herb butter whilst I had an oyster, both of us choosing sea bass served in a lemon and caper butter as our main and couldn't resist the chocolate pot laced with Tobermory malt whisky dessert. Highly recommended.

We visited Tobermory with to go here for lunch. We love food. We love seafood. We had high hopes. We were enormously disappointed. The waiting staff were rude, clearly they didn’t want children in their restaurant. They were difficult when asked questions about portion size, and told they were unable to tell us. The bread was stale, the seafood over cooked; I’ve Had better seafood out of a packet from Aldi.

Highly recommend a visit to the Alan Stevenson house restaurant, it’s a little tucked away at Hynish but definitely worth the drive over. Very well stocked bar, amazing service and excellent food. There was 8 of us including 2 kids, there isn’t a kids menu but discussing this at booking they said it would be no problem to rustle something up and they made maca and chicken goujons which went down a treat. We all had something different but every meal was delicious. The fish was too big for the plate!!! We were lucky that we had 2 drivers which allowed the rest to enjoy some drinks but Kris did say if we are back again and would like a drink but no way home he said mention it to them and they might be able to suggest a lift which was a nice touch. Maybe bear that in mind if you want to visit!! Very well stocked bar as I said

Just been announced that it is now permanently closed. The owners’ other 2 restaurants, a pizzeria and a tapas restaurant, are still open along the front.
