Mariachi in Edinburgh, City of

We stumbled upon this while walking a little bit besides the main tourist roads. (Still crowdy). The waitress was very knowledgeable to the point where I mistook her for a Mexican native (sorry) The elotes were very nice, the tortillas too. The guacamole wasn't that good but I can imagine it's hard to find good avocado in Scotland in may. The drinks were very good as well as the salsa and the quesadilla which my wife had. They also added grilled vegetables without a question asked. The hot sauce variety was also very good. Can only recommend!

The wife jedi mind-tricked me into wanting fish tacos.....cue Mariachis for a scran, baja fish taco each for starters, king prawn chimichanga (made fresh when we asked if they could do it with prawns) excellent selection of hot sauces and churros for dessert, washed down with aperol spritz and bottles of pacifico. Highly recommend

My boyfriend really enjoyed the port tacos, and the nachos with chicken added. He said the steak tacos could use more seasoning. I had the chicken fajitas and I wasn’t in love with them. The sauce was overpowering for me. The churros and the pina coladas were fantastic. The staff were attentive, and fast with service.

The ambience was amazing, the staff was really helpful and kind, but the food could’ve been a lot better. Wishes, for example the removal of certain spices out of a dish were just ignored and the taste overall was okay.

Tasty food and cocktails. Amazing chicken wings specifically. The only downside was the MFC tacos were disappointing as instead of being chicken breast fillets it was like a reformed chicken fillet, the texture of a chicken nugget for example. Not what I had hoped for, which would have helped if it was more specific on the menu, but the fish tacos were amazing.

The food was very tasty: croquetas, quesedilla with chicken and cheese, nachos with sour cream, guacamole and salsa sauce, and for dessert the churros y chocolate. The mocktail passion cooler was also very tasty. Nice staff.

Taking way to long for my order

I was there last night with 7 friends and we were seated very quickly. The staff were really nice and friendly. The food was fantastic. The only thing I was kind of disappointed with was there wasn't any Mariachi music playing but can't have everything. To the member of staff with the Supernatural tattoo I have to say Carry on you Wayward Son

A very nice Mexican restaurant, great service, I absolutely loved the vegetarian taco. Guacamole could have been more garlicky to my taste, but maybe this is just my personal preference. I had a nice time there. A big ♥️ for serving tap water.

We started with nachos to share, chicken and steak fajitas with a side of refired beans they was delicious great value for money. Also had a strawberry mojito, corona and latte. Service was fast and staff were lovely

The food was okay. Having been to Mexico several times, the food didn't taste like Mexican, it was more like tiki masala infused Mexican food. IDK maybe the chef is from India, but I didn't taste anything Mexican. Everything had a tiki masala taste. Now I had a margarita it was really good even though it was small and expensive but I really liked the taste of that drink. Ok, not Mexican but two star tasting food. I go to Mexico all the time; check my reviews. Also even though it wasn't busy, felt a rushed to order and finish.

Excellent value for money Unlikely to be disappointed in this restaurant

This restaurant was a let down. We tried to find an authentic Mexican restaurant, but we would have been better off at a chain. A big part of the menu was tacos, which we ordered. We tried the M.F.C and the carne asada. The steak was so tough, the chef could have been wearing it on his feet. The chicken was dryer than the atmosphere in there. The decor was okay, however the waiter was doing laps of our table the whole time we were there... strange. The drinks were nice however overpriced. All together we had 4 pairs of tacos and 4 drinks and the bill was £100! There are much better places to eat in Edinburgh.

Dropped in for dinner as I was visiting Edinburgh. This place had some excellent reviews and I can see why. The restaurant was tastefully decorated. Lovely calm ambience. Food was excellent especially the extra hot chicken wings.

Went for a birthday celebration and got a table for 7 - food was very quick and delicious! Cocktails were lovely! Special shot out to the spicy margarita which had chilli-infused tequila and not just a spicy rim! A selection of things were ordered across the table, the fish tacos were my favourite and the habanero sauce

I absolutely love this place, it has THE best food and also has veggie options. The veg enchilada stole my heart

Blew my expectations out of the park. Loved the elotes that we had 2 servings each. Baja fish tacos were just right, and the nachos with beef is a must-try. Even the latte was nice.

What a fantastic find! I organised a party for 30 people at Mariachi and Matthew was a breeze to deal with, even amongst all the changes ! had to make nearer the time. The staff were friendly and efficient, the cocktails were AMAZING and the food was the best Mexican food I've ever had! Make sure you get the tortilla chips with salsas - these are gorgeous. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere and is brightly decorated and l'd recommend it to anyone - from families, couples, parties or even dining alone. I can't wait to return!

Food was simply enough. Too expensive for the food in our opinion. Moreover, I do hate when they include the tips directly in the final cost.

Food was ok, they halved the portion size for the fajitas as we were a couple that shared - then charged us extra when we asked for more cheese. Mandatory service charge - would have been appropriate except the staff spill sour cream on me when they were collecting plates The smell was also horrible, we could barely breathe and had to leave

Food was alright, but place was crowded with no space between tables. Had to step over a pram to get to my seat and could literally smell someone’s perfume from the next table. Service was quick but nothing special. Was charged service charge on the receipt without being asked. They also didn’t ask if we had any allergies or dietary issues ! They also charged extra when I asked for a bit more cheese for the fajitas despite the fact they’d only brought out 1 pot for the 2 of us to begin with! Food was ok but generally a bad experience, wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend.

Our night we were so looking forward to was completely ruined by the food. On photos everything looked so delicious so we were even more disappointed. I ordered a taco with pork without habanero, and even this way the whole thing was so so spicy… impossible to enjoy a bite! Not to mention the enchilada with chicken. I could not even feel, taste or enjoy the meat because my mouth was so burning. Zero cheese taste. We do like a mild spice on a food! But here I could drink a litre of sour cream, I was so craving some neutral and fresh taste to wash down the burning sensation in my throat. My partner’s poor stomach after this experience… What it would take to mention on the menu that all the food is on the way spicier side?! Add some instructions, not everyone likes the strong spices! We love Mexican food, but Mexican doesn’t necessarily have to mean everything is overly spicy… And it was also really pricey! We left hungry, what a waste of money… Don’t go here if you don’t like mid strength spicy food!

I have been in Great Britain for 5 months and this is the first good Mexican restaurant I've experienced. All others are basically some version of a Chipotle restaurant. Mariachi had delicious food like you would get in a good Mexican restaurant in the States and good service.

I dont get the hype at all. I literally cancelled topolabamba for this restaurant but i wish i didn't cancel now. The food was honestly just average, hardly amy taste and the guacamole just seemed like mashed avocados, no authenticity. Considering this is “family run” place it was just so disappointing. Dont bother, i would have cooked this better myself to be honestly. The lovely waitress was nice but thats about it really. Frozen margaritas are from a slushy machine and not freshly made in the slightest. Never again.

The dips could be more portioned. Strong drinks. I’m from Texas and have struggled to get Mexican food, this place is the best I’ve found so far in the UK

Super Mexican food, really delicious and good atmosphere.

Lovely Mexican food with great flavour and fair prices. We went for the burrito and the steak fajita, with extra guacamole (note you don't get any with the burritos or fajita, which is a bit of a shame). Both dishes were delicious, and very nice flavours were coming through. And with a good size. The guacamole is delicious, very fresh, and flavourful. We had a side of fries, too, which were cooked well and tasty. For dessert we went for the churros which were very moreish! Good flavours of the cinnamon came through. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the venue had nice decor. Would recommend coming here!

The food was lovely no complaints in flavour or appearance but the price was bit to much for what we got, could of got the exact same and a actual pitcher of margaritas for £40 less somewhere else

Mariachi Restaurant in Edinburgh is a fantastic spot for some delicious Mexican cuisine. The variety of sauces offered, each with its own unique level of spiciness, was a real treat for the taste buds. We arrived at a late hour when most other restaurants were just closing, but the staff welcomed us warmly. The waitress who served us was incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. A great place to enjoy vibrant flavors and excellent service!

After wandering around Edinburgh looking for a place with a kitchen open after 9pm (be careful because in this city finding an open kitchen becomes difficult after 8.30pm) we came across this really nice Mexican restaurant. The dishes and cocktails are super, as are the waiters. Highly recommended

I’m Mexican and of course is not the same but totally worth it! If you’re missing Mexican flavors it’s a great option!

Great to have a nice dinner without eating scottish food sometimes in the vacation. Great deal for the food and drinks we had. Attentive staff and nice warm place, even if in one of the most touristic street in the city.

Delicious food and amazing staff! The food was really nice with authentic touch to it. Also it is a 8-10 min walk from city centre making it easily walkable.

The food at Mariachi is amazing. And let’s not forget about the cocktails there beautiful. The staff are great there very attentive.

The restaurant is too expensive for this quality and service. Ambiance and service We arrived around 9 p.m. on Sunday and the service was already starting to clean the restaurant, put chairs in front of you, and then close it because they said they would close earlier on Sunday. The service was friendly, but we still felt stressed. However, you should not accept tables if you do not want to. The tables and the ambience are ok. We had tortilla chips with vegetarian chili and quesadillas. The chili was cold. The sauces were very good. 2 drinks + starter and tortilla chips £40.

Very much enjoyed the Mariachi restaurant and the tacos. I fancied the halloumi veggie tacos and they were really good. The nachos with dips are lush. I tried the Dark Stormy cocktail 🍸 it was really nice with the ginger beer. Churros were nice too, never tried before. Next time I will try chicken quesadillas.

Totally fooled by the name, this is Not authentic Mexican or even close to it. Wouldn't mind paying the price if it was at least close to what it says. Would definitely not recommend to anyone if looking for authentic Mexican food!!

On 23rd August 2024, I visited there with my wife for our lunch. All staffs were good. And all cuisines were very good. We enjoyed very much. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!

Many positive reviews for this restaurant. Sorry to report that based on our one time vist we can't rave about our experience in the same way others who've dined at The Mariachi have. Nothing necessarily to complain about but neither nothing to write home about. Maybe the high expectations we had for this restaurant beforehand jaded our view of our experience on the day. Just okay for us.

Great little Mexican food, one of the best tacos I've had in Scotland. Very authentic. Staff is supper friendly and very happy to help.

Mariachi Restaurant in Edinburgh's city center is undoubtedly popular, so I had high expectations. I'm rating it 4/5, as the ambiance fell short of the cozy atmosphere I anticipated. The space was brightly lit, and the decor and food seemed more like the owner's interpretation of Mexican cuisine rather than an authentic experience. While my burrito was flavorful, it was slightly on the dry side—though easily remedied with some Valentina hot sauce. I was also disappointed that the burrito was served with sauce on top and rice underneath, making it necessary to use cutlery instead of enjoying it as a handheld wrap. Despite these minor drawbacks, the service was quick, and the prices were quite reasonable.

Always one of my favourite places to visit when I'm in Edinburgh. The food and drinks are amazing and the service is fantastic.always my go to place for a margarita when I'm here.

Great Mexican food and service!

Wasn’t a fan. £10 for a very empty quesadilla and guac whilst fresh had no texture or flavour, appearing to be just chopped avocado and a smattering of corriander you had to dig to even find. Paid of course but didn’t finish most of the meal.

A great Mexican restaurant with excellent atmosphere, service, food .

Very good Mexican food. We tried quesdilla, burrito, tacos, nachos and margaritas. Margaritas and quesdillas were great, other things were also not bad. The Google maps timing is 12:30 but they were not ready to open at 12:30.

So far, the best Mexican I've had in the UK. The service was quick, even though it was quite busy. Excellent pina colada. The spicy margarita was good, though the salt was not big and flakey. I wouldn't recommend this place as equal to Mexico, but it was still the best I've had in the UK. The chicken was tasty. The pork was decadent. Give it a try!

Great food and service plenty of gluten free options we got lucky with a outdoor table

We arrived just before 6 on a Tuesday and though the place was minimally occupied when we arrived, it quickly became quite busy. At first our service was fairly attentive but as more people showed up the service disappeared and we didn't see our server again after she delivered our meals. We had to flag someone down twice to get our bill. The food was ok. Nothing special for Mexican food but it was decent. The prices were reasonable. The bathroom is not accessible. It is down a flight of stairs.

The server got us a table very quick, was very friendly. We ordered Vegan chipotle sizzler, Chicken quesadilla and Cheese and beans quesadilla. The food was amazing to say the least. Very reasonably priced. Must go if visiting Royal Mile in Edinburgh.

First of all, they include a service charge. Food was decent but the portion size was a bit on the small size and service took a long time despite there not being that many people.

Great food, fast and friendly service. Beef tacos were delicious and the chips were brought hot to the table. Guacamole was a bit bland but they have a few salsa options.

Toilets need attention. They are filthy. Chairs also need replacing as a lot are worn out. Place needs some atmosphere. It’s a Mexican restaurant - the lighting is too bright and house music just seems odd.

I’ve been a regular here for a while however for the price it is dilapidated. The chairs are on the verge of falling apart, there is very little atmosphere (dance music and bright lights… it’s a Mexican restaurant) however the toilets are utterly disgusting. A combination of dead flies in the urine soaked floor and love flier above. The smell downstairs is awful too. Sorry but I won’t be back.

Visited this restaurant following reading positive reviews from Google, at point of arrival it was fairly quiet which surprised me given the reviews however it soon filled up quickly. Quick service, nice atmosphere and reasonably priced. The menu was varied and had lots of options the only downside was I wanted more than I had so will definitely be back! Pollo En Crema De Chipotle was my choice and was excellent.
