OX184 in Edinburgh, City of

Only popped in for a drink before a gig at La. Belle Angel. Nice bar, lots of space. Lots of beers on tap and we were served efficiency.

It was the only restaurant in central Edinburgh that served food after 9:00 pm. Whether you’re a night owl, or in need of a midnight snack, OX186 is the place to be. Kudos to waiting staff for an excellent service!

Service was very slow and the floor staff didn't know the menu. Whiskey sour was awful. Left after one drink.

A nice bar and eatery all round, but just feels a bit stale and noisy, with uncomfortable seats.

Place located a few steps from Royal Mile, very large and spacious, friendly staff, especially Jaime, good delicacies, and good sandwiches, wide choice of beer and what's more it is one of the few places to serve food until late. The restaurant closes at 3.00 AM

Worst service ever. On a slow Sunday night we got ignored by the waitress for 20 minutes straight. Didn’t even have the chance to order. She was more interested in her own drinks and her smartphone.

Vegetarian options are great, everything is full of flavours, nicely prepared, fries are super crispy just as I like. Been there 2 times in a last month, every time service was perfect, waitress was super nice and polite. It could be bit warmer during the winter. Big windows doing the job, whole place has a nice vibe and cool decor.

Visited with a group of friends for drinks initially but ended up getting food as well. There’s lots to choose from on the menu, and everyone I was with said they thoroughly enjoyed theirs. The drinks service was fast and the friendly staff were always floating around to take drinks orders. Would recommend!

easily the worst restaurant i've ever been to. group booking of 13 people, in restaurant 90minutes at least, 50% of food came out and only 2 of these were actually warm. total disgrace.

Good late night pub food…altho very expensive for the quality itself. Asked for a meyo on the side, only to be served a small tub of something that looked like dense white paint? Ketchup also didn’t taste like anything from a store. Atlest chips did taste like chips.

They actually can have great food, but the "bouncer" at the door can be incredibly rude. No idea why, but if it stays that way I wouldn't come back.

I eat here at least once every time I'm in Edinburgh. The food and mocktails always been great. The staff have always been down to earth and friendly.

The mocktail was delicious, best I had so far. The loaded mac & cheese fries were nice. Haggis bon bons were delicious. My chicken salad was a bit disappointing as the chicken’s batter was all burnt and it didn’t have much flavour.

Didn't really get any photos I do apologise but these shots were gorgeous - Baby Guiness I have had elsewhere but the Rhubarb and Custard were a new thing for me and my partner - we loved them!!

Eran las 22:00 de la noche y buscábamos un sitio para cenar. En Edimburgo para comer a esa hora es algo complicado. Preguntamos en un pub y nos dijeron que el OX184 tenían la cocina abierta hasta tarde, así que como no estábamos muy lejos nos dirigimos allí. Subimos a la segunda planta y no nos complicamos, pedimos dos cervezas y dos hamburguesas. Las hamburguesas bien, pero tampoco es que fueran de las mejores que hemos probado. La atención por parte de los camareros muy acertada, eran amables y simpáticos. El local muy chulo con buena música. Gracias al OX184 pudimos cenar tarde.., nos salvó la vida.

Service was good, vegan burger was delicious. The vibe is warm and lively.

The food was amazing and presentable, the place has a nice atmosphere overall. However, i did not have a pleasant experience with the service on Saturday night as my food arrived 10-15 minutes after the rest of my group got their meals. I understand that there can be errors on the way and my order was missed out for some reason, but during that time no one checked back with me or gave an update on my food, i had to check with two members of staff to finally get it as the first one never got back to me. The staff were not very apologetic or communicating overall and didn't keep up with the standards of the place in my opinion.

Ox184 is one of those is it a restaurant or a bar.....well its both it has a beautiful food menu not too complicated. they have a large selection of draught beers and a.decent but small selection of bottled/ can beers pineapple stofferhofer German ale is my favourite here a must try 😋 The staff are very helpful and super friendly......

Great staff, delicious burger, best chips in a long time, and pleasantly surprised with a delicious glass of wine. We will return. The atmosphere is simple; we enjoyed it.

Nice gastro bar with plenty of space and plenty of quality beers. Menu is a bit limited but the burger was top notch.

Don't go here, almost got scammed by an employee who invited us to have some drinks upstairs (they had a 'private' booth there, upstairs was completely empty). We left on time, otherwise they would give us the bill of the drinks with way higher prices.

Fairly empty on a Saturday lunchtime so lovely for a few friends to enjoy a cocktail! Service was a bit slow considering the small number of clientele but the drinks were worth the wait!

£30 steak came cold & £15 burger the same. The truffle cheese fries weren’t cold but had no hint of truffle…

Can't comment on atmosphere as we arrived on lunch opening, however, I suspect it'll be great when it's busy. Only wanted a couple of starters, really good quality and value. Good selection of beers and whisky flights.

Terrible burgers! Bread was old, meat was dry. Staff is nice but music is too loud for dinner. Never again.

Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre dîner, le service était rapide et efficace et nous avons très bien mangé. Seul bémol la musique est assez forte et le volume a augmenté toute la soirée, il vaut mieux venir manger en début de soirée si vous voulez pouvoir vous entendre parler. Large choix de bières et de cocktails, au top.

A great night. With good food and drinks

Très grand café plutôt atypique: très grande salle décorée comme un loft, style industriel, ambiance détendue et service sympathique. Partis de là pour un parcours de découverte des bières écossaises. Les trois premières seront bues ici. Et elles étaient très bonnes. On peut se risquer à un flight si on veut!

Really nice venue and good food with rather average service at a high price. We all had burgers which were OK and drinks but fort the money it was not that amazing!

A bit understaffed, but the people there worked very hard to give the best service they can. Burger was good but cold as it arrived and the salad had a mayoeske texture. Chips were very nice. Ambience was modern. Would go again

Busy Late crowd with limited wait staff. One poor girl basically running the place. The establishment failed their customers with the inability to provide uncompromising service and their lone wait staff employee was under pressure for atleast the 2 hours we were there. The kitchen was seemingly understaffed as well since the food took over 45 minutes to come out. The overall feel of the place is energetic and the food is pretty good. Banofee pie dessert is worth it.

Someone else booked thus for lunch and it was excellent. Comfortable surroundings and relaxing atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly without being over the top. Food was as described and tasted great.

We waited for 2 hours for our food only for it to be dry and overcooked. Waiter kept getting drinks wrong and half of the table was given their mains while the other half waited 40 minutes to be served. Had to take our meals in to-go boxes in order to not miss our show and were not offered any compensation!

A group of 6 of us had a booth upstairs for drinks late on a Saturday evening. Getting service was challenging but drinks were fine once they arrived. Ordered some fries which were very poor value for money, a tiny pot of fries which were gone in about 1 minute.

My husband and I went there with our two sons, 20 & 24. The waiter, a young girl, asked for ID from my sons. Although, my elder son definitely doesn’t look like under aged. My younger son had a scan of his driving license, but the girl didn’t accept the ID and said I can’t see your age, it’s very small!!!!! Nowadays you can zoom anything on the mobile!? She didn’t even accept my husband and I word, when we said he is 20 years old. He’s with his family, we testified that he’s not under age. Unfortunately, neither her or her manager accepted our word. This is an insult, as it’s implying that we’re lying. Very very disappointing.

Typisches schottisches Pub in Edinburgh. Etwas laut, aber das ist in einem solchen Lokal eher die Regel. Gutes Essen, einigermaßen vernünftige Preise. Nur einen kurzen Spaziergang von der Royal Mile entfernt.

We booked as a table of 8. When we arrived we were informed our tables were split so our party couldn't sit together. I wouldn't have booked if we had known this ahead of time and it put a dampener on the atmosphere. The service was very slow, but it was a busy Saturday night. The staff recognised this and knocked a round of drinks off our bill as a way of saying sorry. In fairness the staff did their best but there just simply weren't enough staff members to service customers properly. Food was ok and drinks were nice, but let down by understaffing and therefore a poor experience as a result.

Drinks - mocktail we wanted wasn't available due to no stock. Ordered the raspberry sour mocktail instead, the mocktail took so long to come that I had almost finished my drink. Upon arrival, the raspberry sour concoction didn't have any foam on top, as you'd expect with egg white being used. We both tasted the mocktail and it was not a raspberry sour - more a raspberry sweet. Not sure the bartender even tasted the drink. Food - the main dish was luke warm (plate was cold) it tasted okay. We had a good giggle at the slice of lemon provided with the small plate. It was so thin, it wasn't even squeezable. Suspicious "cheese" sauce for the nachos was not what you'd expect for a classic nachos. We're still not sure what it was but it didn't taste or look like cheese. Best part was the salt shaker had the pepper lid on so our chips were rained on. Service - not the worst but no check back so couldn't return the untouched drink until the end which made it awkward. Toilets - good luck finding them unless you've eaten your carrots. It's very dark up there. Be careful. Sadly can't say we'll be quick to return (if ever). I remember when this opened and it's really not the same place.

Great venue on Cowgate Street with a good choice of food and drink, highly recommend for meal with friends. Good for larger groups or events.

I went to OX184 for a birthday dinner with my wife and our mutual friends, seated on the top floor next to the open grill. The waitresses were delightful and the food was simple yet delicious; however one thing got in the way of our celebrations and turned the night into something very negative. It appears that a few chefs are unaware that customers can somewhat hear their conversations when the music is low and while trying to enjoy and celebrate our night, we could hear on multiple occasions, one female chef with cropped dark hair who appeared to be in charge discussing her coworkers in an extremely degrading and disrespectful way, referring to them as “useless” at times. Not only is this absolutely unprofessional and vile behaviour, but within earshot of customers is a level of flippancy i have truly never before witnessed. Very disappointed by the clear negative atmosphere behind the scenes and none of us will be returning!!

Terrible customer service!! Never in my LIFE have I been made to feel so unwelcome in what is meant to be a ‘renowned establishment’, whenever I would talk to a member of staff whether that be to order food or drinks I was met with a look that can only be described as utter disgust. I have never EVER felt so belittled, I will never recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh unless they’re in the mood to have a borderline panic attack due to being treated so unkindly!!

Worst service, the glasses were dirty, there were no greetings or anything, they didn’t even give plates for eating and no dips. I have been in uk for the past six months and this is the place with the worst service. The food was great but their service just made it a bad experience for us.

Excellent pub and drink experience This place has a great ambience and a very good selection of drinks and food that goes with the menu. Their pub food options are great, not too much priced and also they serve food late. The person serving us was friendly yesterday. We took his suggestions to try a few beers and had them as well. We Highly recommend this place for pub food and drinks in a late evening.

Group of 8 of us, 2 of which were babies planned to go in for a beer in the afternoon to be told ALL adults must have a full main course in order to be served. Obviously tied to license but worth noting if visiting with kids. Have enjoyed on previous visits

Last night we had Dinner and Drinks after our Whisky tour. We visited here just shy of a year ago and we were greeted by the same waitress! Our waitress Abbie was nothing shy of incredible, knowing everything there is to know about the Whisky they have on offer. She was quick to recommend food, drinks and places to visit in the city. Service was prompt despite her being very busy on the floor. Must try the Steak Frites. Thanks for making our experience so enjoyable! Good luck with everything.

I visited with a friend last Saturday and the service and quality of the cocktails was outstanding. Maddison and Caleb especially were so friendly and clearly very skilled mixologists. Will hopefully be back soon.

It serves food late, which is nice for those recovering from jet lag. However, the food is just fine, and we waited for over 30 minutes for our drink and food orders to be taken and then another hour for our food to arrive.

Much busier than my previous visit. So if you want a quiet place you may not get it. Lots of of space though for large groups and the food is decent.

I'm so happy they served us food late! Lots of places in Edinburgh do not serve food late, but we followed some Americans to this location, and we were happy.

Good steak frites, their Guinness tasted very strange. A very Americanized style of restaurant.

Nettes Personal was auch in stressige Situationen ruhig und gelassen blieb. Wir sind angekommen wo nur 2 weitere Tische belegt waren. Innerhalb eine viertel Stunde war aber das ganze Lokal bis auf dem letzten Platz voll. Ich kann nicht sagen wie lange das essen dauert bei voller auslastung, da wir genau davor bestellt hatten und unsers recht zügig kam. Das Essen war gut!

We booked for a party of 18, on arrival the table was only set out for about 14 of us so had to drag tables about and find places on the ends of tables to accommodate. No complaints about the serving staff they were friendly, helpful and competent. The food however was a big disappointment. I ordered salt and pepper squid for starters, when it arrived it was squid rings, the batter was not crispy but oily and no taste of salt or pepper. My half rack of ribs looked like a childs portion. The rib ends starters had more meat. A number of the group ordered burgers I don’t think any finished them as they were all over cooked and dry. All in all for a grill restaurant very disappointing.

Went just for dessert. Bonus is their kitchen is open on a limited menu until 2am, which cannot be said for most restaurants in the area! The service was lovely but slowish, and their sticky toffee was dry and underwhelming. Would still come back here on a late night if needed though.

Poor untrained service, very long in coming. Little knowledge of the beers and wine. The decor was ho hum hip. The almost cold ho hum nachos were the worst I've ever been served. What a downer introduction to Edinburgh.

Good variety of beers on tap but very pricey (over £7 for a pint ) busy downstairs drinking area, quieter upstairs dining area. Toilets upstairs .
