I am a nanny of two wee ones that live around the corner from Bruno's. We visited often when the children were off school during term breaks. I am an American immigrate to Scotland, and often reminesce about real American style breakfasts. The children wanted to experience the french toasts, sausages, pancakes and milk shakes that I grew up with at their age. We LOVED visiting Bruno's!!! The staff were always super friendly and chatty with us. The lady manager was sweet and made the children feel special. The food was delicious! We enjoyed the 50's style decor very much, with the vintage toys and red vinyl carseat booths. The kids enjoyed watching The Wizard of Oz on the big screen telly! What a shame it has closed down We are all very sad to see you go. Good luck in whatever future business you may aspire to. We hope you come back and open up something equally as cool as Bruno's in our neighbourhood again! ❤❤❤

As someone who has work's in the city centre my colleagues and I often passed, not without a little excitement, at the prospect of an actual American Diner on the doorstep of our workplace. We work long hours and a decent breakfast place was something we wanted, nay longed for. We quickly made our arrangements to visit for an end of work treat!! Counting down the days on the calendar until we could actually visit, gorge on waffles and pancakes, then spend the morning sleeping off our hearty breakfast at our desks (ha ha, just joking about the sleeping!!)

El propietario ha ido fuera de su camino para crear un experiencia sensación y comida, y él fue muy agradable, conversando con nosotros todo el tiempo! ! It's called a 7-to-7 diner - would assume it to actually be open 7am to 7pm - and that's the information available online as well. Once we got to the store, the menu in the window claims it's open 8am-7pm except on Tuesdays when it's closed. At that point it was 8.45 on a Thursday - should've been open both according to online info and the menu on the window - we decided to search up other places, when the owner arrives without a care in the world, announces "we're not open yet" without an explanation or an apology - we ended up going to a different cafe and spending £50+ on breakfast so the diner's loss. If you're gonna come - come midday otherwise it's probably going to be closed.

I have lunch with my grandmother most weekends and finding somewhere with good food and accommodating staff is more challenging than you might think. I had previously been to Bruno's with friends and found it to be charming and great value and thought the 50s theme might make Granny feel welcome. Boy was I right. The owner periodically takes time out of her shift (which I'm sure is long and stressful) to speak to her clients and makes them feel welcome. It is always reassuring to see a familiar and welcoming face in a restaurant and both Celena and Cameron (who is a very well mannered and dutiful server) are great.Free coffee refills are an absolute treat and the drinks menu is extensive, I would recommend one of their milkshakes (with a shot kahula if you're feeling up to it). The beer selection is superb as well. Now onto the food. The burgers are fantastic and unlike anything I have tasted before, the omelettes are delicious and pretty creative with their ingredients and I would definitely recommend any one of the breakfasts. Overall it is a wonderful place to eat, with accommodating staff and a great selection of food and drink. It is a fabulous family establishment suitable for all ages and I recommend it to my friends whenever I get the opportunity.

We visited for dinner arriving around half six tonight, Thursday - we were the only people there - nevertheless we felt welcome and there was still a very pleasant atmosphere. The BBQ ribs are amazing (if I remember correctly they cost about £16/17), very highly recommended! Only comment was we felt like perhaps it closed at 7 (whereas it says 8 on here currently) but this may be due to the lack of customers that night. Very lovely, glad we went

We had a very good meal here. The portion sizes were good and the food was really tasty. We liked the theme and the general ambience, which was friendly and laid-back. Service was attentive and we felt that our custom was valued, which was appreciated. The diner makes a nice change and it's great to be able to eat early in the evening in a welcoming location which is not part of a chain. Importantly for me this place also offers free refills of tea! I never ever get this anywhere, so for that alone I love it. I didn't have time to have a never-ending cuppa but look forward to it in future. Coffee lovers are well looked after too. There is also a good wee selection of beers etc. This is a great place to have a lovely meal whilst watching the world (well, Tollcross) go by.

I've wanted to try this diner for a while and wasn't let down by it. The decor is adorable, not overdone, but almost adorable kitsch. The food was great, and all prepared fresh in the kitchen as the menu states. The menu also warns that because of this there might be time delays, but the food came out at a fairly average speed. There was a lot of food for what we paid, and granted the food might be considered a little expensive by some it's pretty average for what you pay now in most places. The only complaint would be that the restaurant seemed quite small and one of the waiting staff kept squeezing between the table next to us and ours rather than go the slightly longer way round. It's a small complaint, but it made the meal a bit uncomfortable and gave the place a tiny feel.

We came here with 2 kids and I have to say there were welcomed and high chairs were available. We have lived in the states and now live quite local to this place so we thought we would try it on a Saturday for lunch. Overall we were quite disappointed on a number of fronts. The range of foods is quite limited. I suppose it is easy to see why a menu as extensive as a Manhattan diner is impossible given the location here. Make sure you like burger or breakfast dishes and you will be fine. However, the prices were surprisingly high. ≥£10 for a burger dish is not too unexpected now but the quality is well below competitors in a similar price bracket. The food comes in a basket - OK, maybe Johnny Rockets do that but not many real diners. We had a kids burger which was very lacklustre. An adult main of brisket sandwich was fine but again felt overpriced. Perhaps the most visually impressive dish were the pancakes. Simple but well done. The staff were friendly and the place was clean. However, I don't see much to recommend this place unless you insist on eating in US themed restaurants.

i have been here on many occasions, normally on a weekend, although a few occasions during the week when time allows.Since I've been coming here the diner has changed (if only slightly), the menu's and the table decor has changed.. Love the fact how the records are used as place mats.I normally have the french toast, as it was the first thing that i ever had when i first came in. and it is always good, This time i had the Pancake breakfast, first of all hand made sausage Patties! soo good both me and my partner love them, pancakes were light and fluffy (could maybe have been sweeter as tasted a little bland, but the syrup sorted that to be honest, and waitress offered more syrup if i needed)The unlimited coffee is a great idea, and as a coffee lover, enjoy the frequency that the coffee is refilled by the staff..Always receive good service in here and polite staff as well as decent prices for the plate sizes (needless to say I've never left hungry anyway), i will continue to come for breakfast.. i have also promised myself to stretch out and go beyond the french toast and pancakes at least once.

We've only just discovered Bruno's even though it's been open for a while. We'll definitely be going back. The decor is Americana done with style. The staff are lovely. And the food is homemade and tasty. We ordered a breakfast and an omelette. Both meals were great - with homemade hash browns, sausage patties, etc. that were really a cut above the ready-made, frozen stuff you get in some diners. For dessert we shared a NY style cheesecake (freshly made by the chef) and it was lush. The one thing I'd say is that it's a shame they don't don't offer real cream for their desserts instead of the squirty stuff. But maybe that's just personal preference. All in all, a great little place.

I have not had the pleasure of dining at Bruno's 7 to 7, although I did apply to work there. I was told I had a job, stayed for the summer and was then told I had lost my position to work there. Though admittedly there was a lack of communication, I was able to see firsthand how unprofessional the owners are -- among other things, I got told in the first meeting with the staff that we girls were "not allowed to get fat" and that Celena had only purchased size M for the diner outfits (long polka-dot skirt and white little blouse). Throughout the meeting, the management spoke rudely, cursing, and such -- I do not see how with such attitudes towards staff would amount to your typical diner experience. I was not surprised to see a news article with Celena's again, unprofessional comments on TripAdvisor -- hopefully the food is better than management.

When we initially discovered Bruno's a couple of months ago, we had high hopes for an authentic diner breakfast (I'm from North America but live in Edinburgh and my Scottish husband loves American-style diners). Thankfully we were not disappointed! A lot of effort has been put into the decor which is really fun. The service is really friendly and the food is excellent and has hit the spot every time! On my first of three visits I had an omelette which was delicious, but having now tried the buttermilk pancakes (different varieties the second and third time) I don't think I'll have anything else! They are some of the best pancakes I've ever had and are perfect on a wet & cold morning! :) I'm not normally a fan of filter coffee (the only type available, in keeping with true diner style) but their coffee is strong and delicious which is great! Visited here on a Saturday in July quite soon (I think) after the place opened. Yes, there were a few teething problems. The waiting staff were very pleasant but not overly confident. The decor is kitschy and fun. The food was pretty good. I ordered the house burger with extra bacon - and got the house burger without bacon. When I pointed out the missing component the waitress apologised and amended the bill. One friend ordered the spicy topped hot dog, which was proclaimed 'not bad'. Another friend ordered the meatloaf, which is supposed to come with garlic mash, peas and bacon in red sauce. No sign of mash - it arrived with chips instead. There's also a potentially expensive typo on the menu as it says a full rack of ribs is £7.90 while a half-rack is £13.95 - we pointed this out to the waitress at the time but it's still showing on the online version of the menu. Other than the wonky rib pricing the prices are pretty reasonable. I'm willing to try the place again as it does fill a niche that could do with being filled in Tollcross - hopefully the glitches in the early days have been ironed out.

I run a local seasonal guesthouse and live 300 m from this diner. Yesterday I visited Bruno's DIner for the first time. Before Bruno's Diner existed, I was a regular at the the old cafe in that place. I went to Bruno's with a good friend who had been a long term shift manager in the old cafe that was there. We avoided the new place because we didn't want to spoil old memories. My friend read negative reviews of the new place that put her off, but then she heard very good things from other friends who work locally. So we went to see.I am so glad we went back. The place is utterly changed, but even loving the old place, I cannot fault the transformation. The place is so clean it was literally shining. The chrome of the seats and the black and white tiled floor so bright that in the end I asked what cleaning product they use because I want some!. My friend and I visited at a quiet time and were served by friendly helpful continental European staff, clearly under the direction of a strict manager-proprieter who I heard noticing and praising small details of their work and correcting others. Our food was delicious and plentiful (I had a breakfast with smoked salmon, cream cheese, eggs my way and hash browns) and arrived quickly. A minor mistake with my order was noticed and corrected by staff before I had realised or asked. Admittedly there were only two groups in the establishment and we were one, so it is hard to say what might happen in a rush. But I can guess what is likely to happen to any establishment in that location, after ten years of experience as a customer in this location. Any business cooking fresh to order will be slower at peak times. Because the kitchen is small and there is only so much fresh food you can make in one go there.Us regulars of the old business knew that and accepted we would wait a bit (not hours!) for our food at peak times. It was fine with us because the food was always good, always fresh, always generous portions and well priced. If we didn't have time, we went elsewhere.Bruno's DIner is totally different from my old hang-out. But they also cook fresh to order. The food is excellent. The 'Diner' atmosphere is authentic, bringing back good memories for me of 4 years living in the US. The friend I went with is a hospitality manager, daughter of publicans, and she will not eat in a place where she has any doubts about the kitchen. Bruno's diner kitchen, which can be observed over the open counter top, was hospital-clean when we were there, despite ongoing cooking. We will certainly be regulars again, and I will definitely be sending the American performers who stay with me every year down to the diner which also does take out! And bottomless cups of tea and coffee (with food)! But I will tell my visiting Americans that when the diner is full, they should expect to hang out and take their time. The service will be slower. But the food will be worth it. And it's a nice place to be. Having seen more recent review, my one suggestion to the management would be to promote with signage exactly what the Diner experience is. And to make it clear that because the food is cooked fresh to order, there are times when it will take longer. The old place made a point of doing this, and we customers were fine because we knew, and we could choose. And we kept going back. The food and atmosphere at Bruno's DIner is great and the quality standards are so clearly high, there will be no lack of customers. You can attract the ones who want what you offer, and let those with different needs make a different choice. Best Wishes, Claire M - Lonsdale Terrace (and my friend K. O)The business The kitchen, in which my friend worked for 2 years, is a small space. It has two workstations maybe, three maximum. A team of 5-6 a;lways operated in that kitchen in peak times. But at peak times service was always "slow". Because there is only so much food you could get out of that kitchen. counter top, was hospital-cleanMy friend who is a hospitality manager and hears on the grapevine about new good places to visit, called me and said we should go because she had heard good reports.

The staff were very friendly and attentive and i will be sure to visit again. Its sometimes difficult to find a good healthy breakfast when traveling so i'm really glad i've found this place. The menu has a really great choice.

We first stumbled into here 2 weeks ago. 2 small children frustrated after spending a morning in the eye hospital, and a husband on a health kick with the stress of a flight to catch in an hour, as we looked for the organic healthy cafe that existed there before, on a cold windy afternoon, under pressure... in other words, expectations were not high. The calm that met us was rather disconcerting .. at first. The menu adrrived, and with it, a box of dominoes, a book, and wooden train. As my baby fiddled with the train, it appeared to be broken. The owner swooped down. "oh dear," I thought, " I take my eye off the ball and now am going to have to apologise for this old thing".. but no, she was worried he might poke it in his eye, so she just removed the offending parts. And played with him. And then, she checked if my boy was happy, and would like her to put the Wizard of Oz on the DVD player...The food started to arrive, and it really was very good. Suddenly, our stress just dissolvedLast stormy Saturday night therefore, with 2 tired, over excited little girls on a treat, a little boy with no friend (and a nose out of joint) , and a baby on the brink of yet another bug...this was the only place we felt brave enough to go. My friend wanted to go somewhere smarter, but I was vindicated. My boy was put on a table on his own, with a challenge to keep him busy, and then asked if he would help put cups away... the trust and thoughtfulness in this little request- I had a proud happy boy at the end. We were even walked to our car as she was worried we would be blown awayService like this- it is truly exceptionalWhat is interesting is that they were not empty. The owner and the lovely young french man just talked to everyone as they walked past their tables. A graduation celebration, a spanish family gathering. And It wasn't obtrusive- they only swooped in when we were struggling, otherwise a friendly word to the baby and the grumpy little ones as they passed.. and all so friendly and calm. I don't think I have been anywhere so relaxing in Britain (and we eat out a lot with our kids)As for the food- to be honest, I didnt know what to expect. I thought a diner was an American Greasy Spoon ... necessary at times, cheap, quick and efficient, but not to be savoured. This is not what they are aiming for. The menu items do include burgers and hot dogs and waffles.. but that is not all. My husband and I had spicy brisket and minced pork (I think) .. both were flavoursome. Satisfying. Not greasy. Coffee was refilled, and the milkshakes were a treat...As far as this sort of food goes, which is definitely not my favourite, it really was very goodAny suggestons? Yes! A healthy option or two please, to throw into the mix.. Maybe something less meaty. Is Chowder a possibility? You can't go wrong with soup in Edinburgh. Some simpler , cheaper and healthy items for kids (their new menu is apparently at the printers). Some ceasar or waldorf salad? Both american, could slot in.The decor and atmosphere deserves a mention- smart, comfy, warm, airy. Good high chair. What not to like? It may be worth considering that it isn't budget and the food is not "fast food" ..but there's plenty others who fulfill that criteriaMy kids have asked if they can eat there every day. I am not sure every week is feasible, but with a few healthier options, it may be a possibilityThough their hilarious byline is "Skinny people get kidnapped too easily... Stay Safe, Eat at Bruno's"...I wouldn't want to take away from the personality of this wonderful place

I visited this place this morning (Saturday) precisely because the mixed reviews piqued my interest. How could some people love the place, and others (seem to) hate it?I'm giving this place a rating of 4 because I don't want to fall in the the trap that has afflicted other reviewers, with it either being 'amazing' or 'horrible', but rather reflecting what it really is: a place with great potential, requiring a bit of work to take it to the next level.Firstly, the food: It was great, when it finally arrived. Our table had tea, coffee, an omelette and the pancake breakfast. The portions sizes were good, and it was made with care and attention. Secondly, the diner-setting is lovely. A lot of thought has gone in to the decor. It's kitschy. I like it.Now to the downsides. Our food wasn't served until 45 minutes after we walked in. Now, we weren't in a particular hurry, but what was annoying was that a couple who walked through the door 25 minutes AFTER us, sat beside us, and got their food served first. The service/waitresses, although very friendly, were inefficient and seemed out of their depth. Despite the decor, food, music and surroundings being 'Americana-Diner-esque', the awkward, inefficient service was distinctly continental. True American diner service is 'effortless', lots getting done without you ever really noticing, experienced, confident, relaxed waitresses breezing about with coffee pots, and you never feeling like you have to ask for anything, as they seem to know what you want before you do. The service here was almost the opposite. Although the lassies were lovely, it was clumsy, disorganised, and they were clearly inexperienced. They were either short-staffed, or they needed direction from a front-of-house manager/supervisor. I truly hope the owner takes note of such constructive criticism, and directs their energies where they are required to make this place an A1 American Diner Experience: Consistent, competent service.Perhaps the kitchen weren't doing their job properly, which I'd be surprised about given there were 3 guys in there, and only about 20 people in the diner in total at that time.We were asked to choose where we sat. We chose a regular table and chairs near the back, rather than the bar near the front. When we got to the table, it was for 6 folk, and it still had all the plates/cups and mess from the previous diners left on it. 1. You don't sit people down at a table until it is cleared, cleaned and reset. We waited 15 minutes for the table to be cleared, and had to ask twice for the table to be cleaned. When it finally happened, the (genuinely lovely) waitress kept moving the damp cloth round and round in circles, just brushing the crumbs and sugar/milk around, and I almost burst in to laughter at the ridiculousness of it as she then brushed the crumbs and sugar off the edge of the table, straight on to my lap.We then suggested they might want to rearrange the tables into 3 x 2 settings, just in case others wanted to come in and use them. We finally did this ourselves, otherwise I imagine it'd still be set up for 6, and the young couple that came in afterwards would've been sitting elsewhere instead of right next to us. The chair and stool that were awkwardly placed next to my seat will I imagine still be sitting there as I type this, unless of course one of the other customers has helped move them around in the interim.I'm genuinely not trying to be nasty here, I liked the place, the food, and even the staff. But it all just seemed to lack a bit of slickness that you might actually expect in the USA.We didn't leave a tip, because we had to ask for almost everything, and it was a bit pained. I'm hoping the owner takes these genuinely constructive comments in the way they are intended, because there is clearly a lot of promise here, and they are leaving a lot of pennies on the table by refusing to embrace efficiency in their service.I'll return in a few months time and see whether things have improved. I really hope they have, I want to love this place. Perhaps training the front of house staff in 'the American way' might help, or if they just can't do it to give an authentic American experience, maybe hire some actual Americans that understand it naturally (it's not like there are a lack of young Americans in Edinburgh!).Kindest Regards.I

I along with a colleague dropped in here earlier this week and the experience wasn't great unfortunately.Service was slow, food was not what was expected and warm rather than hot. Due to time restraints we ate what we could and left. Will we return? I doubt it as there are a great deal of other places to eat in the area.Rather a pity that a new business has so many issues!!

Went along with a group and as someone who visits American often and remembers all those great diner experiences and feeds I've had over there, I was excited! I thought the menu was big which was great but then the food arrived. I went for the fried chicken, chips, coleslaw and bacon. You can't go wrong with that? Well, they did. The chicken was still pink, the chips soggy, the coleslaw was okay and the bacon rubbery. I just put a napkin over it, paid up and left and had lunch elsewhere.I felt sorry for the lovely waiting staff and didn't want to complain to them as it wasn't their fault, so decided to leave a review on here instead. It slipped my mind until I saw the diner pop up in the news and I've finally followed though. Reading the reviews, no wonder the staff looked so sad, my thoughts are with them and hopefully they find more enjoyable jobs elsewhere. I don't leave reviews, sometimes a dud is part of the experience of eating out but this was just atrocious.

Bruno's is relatively newly opened and some initial theething problems in the ordering process were noticeable, as the waitress had to come back and confirm our order again. However, the food was good, the staff friendly and service fairly quick, despite being a busy time of day, so all in all a good place for a quick bite.I suspect those that have given a one-star review were expecting full restaurant service, and looking for something to complain about.

I have read the negative reviews and had to try it for myself. I have been to America many times on business trips and Bruno's 7 to 7 American diner is truly authentic retro Americana. I was greeted immediately by a warm and friendly environment. I ordered the San Fran Omlette and a cup of coffee. It was delicious and had no complaints. So why the negative review? My guess is that it is either anti-American sentiments, envy, grudge or just plain ignorance. If you were expecting haggis and got corn hash or expected chips and got fries then you were probably hammered and stumbled into the wrong establishment. The nearest pub is down the street.

My friend and I ate here and loved it. I am an American living in Edinburgh and just loved everything about this place. There has been a lot of care given to the design and aesthetics of the diner and it really feels like a true American diner. I was impressed with the menu selection and ended up just having an ice cream Sundae (which came in a dish that suited the 50s diner theme) and my friend had the Philly Steak sandwich with fries. Both were fantastic :) Our server was a very nice French guy (or at least his accent sounded French) and he kept refilling our coffees and looked after us really well. The restaurant was immaculate, had a nice atmosphere, great service and very good food. I will be back to take my husband as I know he'll just love it!

We visited this restaurant a few days ago, as we were recommended to try this place. The restaurant decor is nice, but the atmosphere is lousy. We heard yelling from one of the chefs, while on the phone, saying things like; bull**it, fu*** c*ut, etc. The owners need to choose better staff.Besides the food did not have any taste, low quality in my opinion.NOT RECOMMENDED

We arrived on a Monday evening about 6.30 and asked what we could have and be out within 30 minutes (we had a show to catch). The owner(?) was extremely accommodating, talked us through what was possible or not, and suggested off menu options. So one omelette with bread and salad, and 2 servings of French toast (eggy bread) with cream and maple syrup - yum yum, thick bread, loads of syrup, I enjoyed every mouthful - thanks! Ordered, served, eaten and paid in just about 30 minutes, and all cooked fresh, go along, give it a try. It doesn't have to be this rushed, I'm keen to go back and take out time enjoying the great menu choices and the fanatic decor.

We visited this place on a weekday evening before going to the theatre nearby. Service was very prompt and friendly. My partner ordered the hotdog which was huge, very spicy which the waitress did mention when ordering, but very tasty. I had the southern fried chicken which was delicious and much, much better than the same dish at another recently opened diner style restaurant in the next neighbourhood. I was extremely full when I finished or I would have ordered something sweet, as the options were very tempting. Will definitely come here again soon - would love to try some of the breakfast dishes especially. I also liked how relaxed, comfortable and informal the atmosphere was in comparison to some of the achingly 'hip' places in Edinburgh now, which in my experience are almost always over-hyped.

After a great night out in Edinburgh, my hungover 5 friends and I stumbled upon this Diner absolutely buzzing for authentic American food to cure us, I can honestly say I left feeling more sick than I already felt. Just as we were going to sit in the tables outside the chef called over "do you not like?" To which we explained we did want to eat there we just fancied some fresh air. I'm assuming it was the owner who served us, she's seemed friendly and was ever so nice to our friend who was more hungover than the rest of us, said friend wasn't hungry and only wanted a glass of water but the owner insisted she at least have some toast, later on we realised why... At the bottom of the menu for tables over 6 people ordering had to pay 10% service charge, so this of course happened to us because our friend gave in and had a slice of toast. On appearance the food looked amazing however after my first bite I couldn't eat any more. The food seemed processed and stuck together and left a horrible taste in my mouth and my friends picked at their food determined to eat something. We spent the entire time talking about what we were going to get from Greggs as soon as we left. I think the best thing I had was the tiniest bottle of sparkling water I've ever seen which was £2!! I've read other reviews on here and I don't see the owner thanking the customers who have left good feedback, I only see her arguing with the negatives. I think she should see it as constructive criticism and work on it rather than getting on her high horse. The customer is always right and judging by the amount of negativity on here the opinions are very much the same. I must say though, the waiter and waitress were both nice.

This was the third time my wife and I went there for a meal. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Aside from that, we would both recommend it as far as the quality of food is concerned.

As American transplants to Edinburgh, my husband & I were looking forward to trying out Brunos for breakfast. This is not 'hipster' brunch - sourdough breads, artisanal roasts & organic muesli- this is good old-fashioned comfort food. No lattes here, just coffee & tea with unlimited refills. The pancakes were fantastic - light, fluffy & reminded us of childhood. A little skimpy on syrup, but servers happy to bring out more & also give us an extra side of American-style crispy bacon - criticisms on this front in previous reviews are simply not accurate. My husband enjoyed the hash browns (though he thought they could have been a bit crispier) - & the fried Apple was a nice touch.Though we had read a few previous negative reviews here on trip advisor, we didn't see any of this reflected in our experience - nice atmosphere, good food & prompt service. Above all, it tasted like home - we'll definitely be back.

Welcome: Friendly, asked if we could sit anywhere so we headed for the booths at the back. Decor: American diner style as expected. Loved that they have Brooklyn Brewery signs on the walls!Ordering: Nice range on the menu; there are a few handwritten changes on the menu but I quite liked that as it's unreasonable to reprint a menu every time theres a change but good to actually change things that need changing! Lovely waitress took our order, and then later apologised as there was a slight wait on our food however they were quite busy and our milkshakes had arrived : DELISH.Food: Lovely big portions, well cooked, loved the patties that came with them too. Reminded me a lot of our favourite diner in the East Village. There was a lady in the diner who obviously wasn't a waitress. She asked us after our meal if everything was okay and was busy serving customers as we left. Reading the reviews on here I'm not sure what's happened but personally it seems like some bad reviews have come from dislike bordering on a vendetta. So. I will focus only on our own experience. We were fans of two thin laddies, so were interested in the new business there. Today was a rare day of glorious sunshine so sat outside for a beer before the others arrived. Staff were very friendly and polite, recommended beers and menu items. We had the chilli dog and the skillet. Both were great, hot dog large and juicy, chilli spicy and loads of melted cheese. Fries were nice and crispy too. Steak was well cooked to medium rare, with fried apples and hash brown (which was perhaps a bit greasy). Only real downer was the coleslaw, really disappointing. I've been reading all the bad reviews about Bruno's and it makes me really sad! Nasty wannabe food critics! Bruno's is a great diner and they opened for the busiest time in Edinburgh, of course the waitresses were going to get grubby! Of course the floor would get dirty quick! As a waitress myself I can say clearing a table when you're already run off your feet with a million things to do is never your number 1 priority. My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this new American Diner after not securing a table in any of our usual choices on an extremely busy festival evening and thought we would give it a go. The tacky and poorly cobbled together decor didn't put us off as we are both lovers of the classic diner experience and the menu choices looked promising. The french waiter was pleasant enough and showed us to our table. I opted for a Big Boy Bruno sandwich as I love Braised Brisket and my other half opted for the simple Burger. How could it go wrong? Well it did, very wrong. My 'Braised Brisket' sandwich came in a processed Hot Dog Bun smothered in cheap Cheddar Cheese instead of the Provolone promised with half a jar of mixed herbs sprinkled on top. Soggy chips and tasteless coleslaw on the side. When I took a bite instead of Beef Brisket it was a hideous canned hot dog smothered in tomato sauce that I wouldn't have fed to a dog. I had another bite but decided to leave the rest as it was awful. Certainly not Katz's Deli! My girlfriend took one bite of her burger and embarrassed whispered to me that she couldn't eat it. It was a insipid grey frozen burger like you would get in Iceland and also came with the sides of soggy chips and tasteless coleslaw. We were in a hurry and I don't like to cause a scene but did mention to the timid waiter that my order was not correct expecting to at least have it taken from the bill. Instead a bill for the full amount was presented. Horrible food, average service and far too expensive for the slop on offer. Only positive was at least they had nice beers on offer. Avoid.

I visited this diner during the Fringe festival and I was excited to show my English friends how diverse Edinburgh is by specifically going to this new establishment. The previous reviews were mixed but I thought as they were new they probably had some busy first few days. However, despite being only one of three tavles served for lunch the place was deplorable. In short:- terrible managment who argued and bullied both staff and paying customers.- terrible menu: on the extreme of basic but somehow still managing to be confusing.- terrible food: overpriced, greasy, overcooked and unfufilling.- terrible atmosphere: mostly due to management sitting at the door belittling staff and then interrogating the customers when they had any grievances. Also surprisingly quiet at lunch on the busiest weekend of the Fringe. My recommendatation is to not do what I did and instead visit the many other actually good restaurants located closeby. Despite living in Edinburgh for five years (visiting some dodgy places as well as the good) this was the worst restaurant experience I have had.

The pancakes and fried eggs were good, and this is the first time I've found american bacon in the UK. The only thing different was the sausage. Not better or worse, just different. They were a little stingy with the syrup, but they were friendly when I asked for more.It looks like a lot of reviewers were turned off by either the owner's temperament or the restaurant's cleaniness. having just got back from a month in the US and having read the "Lynchian Pastiche" review I just had to try this place out. I've been in the building before - once when it was "2 Thin Laddies" - the chef used to make awesome cheese scones and had tales from working on the rigs, and once when it was the derelict Goldbergs building (me and my mate listened to REM play Murrayfield from the ruined roof aviary). anyways I digress - my attempt to gain entrance was sadly blocked by a lady who told me the diner had run out of food. it was 6pm, they said they had a busy lunchtime that day. fair enough if this was Mary's Milk Bar, which everyone knows gets mobbed but then shuts when they run out of stuff - call yourself a 7 to 7 diner and it can be reasonably argued that you should be able to serve diner food from 7 to 7. does Quick Fit run out of tyres? does Boots run out of paracetamol? I'd love to be able to write a review about the actual food, decor and (from reading the reviews) Royal Ed style service but alas. here's hoping this review gets a pithy response from celenacollins1965 before Gordon Ramsay or reddit find out about the place and it implodes into farce!

We visited Bruno's for breakfast in July. Being a native New Yorker, living permanently in Edinburgh for many years, I was keen to try out this new American style dining experience. On arrival, the first thing to note was that the waitress who greeted us was disheveled and wearing a filthy apron. As this was an early morning visit, I can only assume that she was wearing yesterday's gear-not a great advert. She was also quite sullen and didn't crack a smile. The menu is in the form of a placemat and was littered with spelling and grammatical errors-some words, such as 'pattie' were spelled differently several times on the menu. Branded items, such as Aunt Jemima's, were misspelled and not trademarked. The owner was rude and actually apologised for poor food quality and poor service by describing her establishment as "just a diner"! In America, the diner is the epitome of good food and customer service and typically serve a wide variety of food across many genres. In short, a visit to an American diner virtually guarantees a good eat! At Bruno's, requests for simple changes to the menu in the form of additions and omissions to plates were met with hostile resistance by the owner and confusion by the waitress. The owner was loud and abusive to her staff and it was clear that they were intimidated by her (no wonder the aforementioned waitress was unable to summon up a smile-she was clearly miserable working in such an environment). I have read previous reviews of a similar ilk and have also read the owner's disparaging replies. I can't believe that she expects to develop a successful business behaving as she does. She really needs to begin listening to her customers and, perhaps, visit some similar dining establishments in order to gain insight into how it's done. I suggest she start with TriBeCa, just up the road in Bruntsfield. I had breakfast there this morning. I had to queue for half an hour to get a table but it was well worth the wait-gracious, professional staff and great food served in an environment where the customer comes first.

I went with my wife for some dinner and will be going back very soon as it was amazing. I wanted everything on the menu and was well happy with what I received. The food was delicious, the milkshake, awesome and the guys that work there were entertaining and helpful. Don't know why the other horrible reviews as you could not fault the place for what it was.

My American partner was really excited about Bruno's opening, she loves traditional American breakfast, which this place boasts. First impressions are good, the place is well decorated and bright and new. The waitress was pleasant but her uniform was absolutely filthy, considering the place had only been open for 10 days this was surprising, her white blouse needed a wash and her apron was splattered in food at 11am. We decided that it was the food that was the most important and eagerly awaited our breakfast. The all American pancakes were soggy and thick and the crispy bacon was barely cooked. My £10.95 plate consisted of, 2 rashers of bacon, one sausage, one slice of toast and 2 hash browns, all of which was greasy and undercooked. The final nail in the coffin was the terrible attitude of the female owner, she was rude and arrogant, told us that it was just diner food so what did we expect. She insisted that we speak to the chef, he was a charming man who was full of apologies and sat with us for a while chatting. The female owner also intimidated and consistently complained to her young staff about every aspect of their work, in full ear shot of all the customers, all the while munching her way through her breakfast walking about the restaurant. Terrible experience which will never be repeated, now that TriBeCa has opened up the road they won't stand a chance unless they up their game. I worked in Catering for 20 years and understand how demanding it is and how hard it is for a new business, but customer service is easy, even with all the mistakes, if she had been courteous then we would have returned and tried again.

We enjoyed a fantastic family lunch at Butta Burger in George Street today. The variety of chicken and beef burgers, along with an assortment of fries, impressed us. The quality was excellent, and the portions were generously sized - there was so much food! A highlight was the delicious fried cordial olives, which were incredible! The staff members were all lovely and added to the experience.
