Very good place to have a drink and eat. The prices are not high for the service offered, adequate. The freda and lime cider is very good.

We planned a trip here because of the menu and a referral from one of the barmen in drop kick Murphy, and it didn't disappoint. Small and quirky place. We went for the pit boss feast - sharing platter, and nothing was left other than bones. It was very tasty, freshly cooked food.

It's was service and aesthetics but the brisket is too dry, the pulled pork was soggy but dry at the same time so a weird texture to describe and toilets are small I would not recommend.

The Cajun fries were drenched in salt and completely inedible. I was chewing salt and couldn’t finish them. Even tho Cajun fries are only 50 pence more than the regular fries you pay £3 extra if you upgrade your burger with Cajun fries.

Bubba Q is an outstanding place to grab some drinks and food, with an excellent menu and outstanding service that compliments the very cool design of the restaurant it's an essential place to visit if you find yourself in Edinburgh. I recommend the chicken garlic and honey tacos. The flavour is superb. Special mention to the quality of service as stated, it's outstanding. Highly recommended.

we went on new year's eve (it was the only place we found a table) we had two sandwiches, a beer, a water and a lotus dessert. overall the sandwiches were good, the chips were not the best and the dessert was good. they seemed a bit annoyed and rushed you a bit we paid about £55

Out on vacation and this place was amazing! Food was great and we topped off the meal with a sundae and milk shakes.

It is a peculiar place, more American than Scottish style, but without a doubt original. The food is fine, nothing more. The burgers are large and you can add fries for an extra. Friendly and fast service.

Don't expect any form of smile to go with your service. And when the food is ready, be prepared to catch it when it is dumped onto your table. And to think that a service charge is automatically applied to the bill. Whilst expensive the burgers were quite good to be fair. Vibe would be good if the service came with a smile.

Whilst looking at the menu outside, a couple came out and said how good the food was so we went in. It didn't disappoint. Very small and cosy. Friendly staff, great food. Interesting decor. I would return if I was more local.

Food was terrible. Me and my partner had to rush back to our apartment because it had made us both quite unwell. Drinks were okay but it was empty. Don’t rely on the other reviews, they’re fake.

Always loved this place, great location, succulent smokey meats, big portions and lunchtime deals. Great selection of condiments on each table, milkshakes are awesome as well, if you are feeling filthy you can get even get a burger served between two doughnuts!

A bit American atmosphere, but that doesn't make it any less good, it's very well decorated, the service from its only waitress at the time was incredible, very attentive, and the food was delicious. Great price, great treatment, all very very attentive.

Had a good time at Bubba Q’s. Large potions for food (we didn’t order starters and were still full!). Chicken wings were lovely and had a nice smoky flavour. Went on a Saturday night which was busy so food took a bit of time to get to us, but not a big issue

Really enjoyed our meal this evening. The service from the waitress was brilliant and range of options was on point. Both the burger & ribs/wings was a tasty treat.

This was one of the favorite restaurants I stopped at during my European travels when I was missing American food.

As a keen smoker of bbq food I make it my mission to find a smokehouse everywhere I go. While on holiday in Scotland I decided to try Bubba Qs. Between us we had the child's hotdog meal, the chicken wings, mac and cheese, boneless chicken wings and the ribs. The child's hotdogs meal was just a standard cheap hotdogs sausage not the bubble sausage that is on the menu. The chicken wings were very dry and we were sure they were not freshly cooked. The boneless chicken were just cheap chicken nuggets with some 'inferno' sauce on which were not hot at all. Lastly the ribs were terrible, dry and over cooked. I know how smoked bbq food should taste and this isn't it. Save yourself the disappointment and try somewhere else.

Great experience in here, really good authentic food. I ordered the chicken tacos and my partner got the classic dog. Service charge was added (cheeky) but we enjoyed the food and the service. Casual dining at it's best. Keep up the good work

This will be my 4th time visiting here with family and friends for a meal and drink, the food is always cooked to perfection, excellent choice of meats, burgers and platters are my favourites, nachos are also 10/10, I would gladly recommend this place to anyone looking for a meal... Staff are very efficient and friendly, service is very good even at busy times, comfortable and great atmosphere. Don't hesitate to give Bubba q a try

amazing ribs! the place itself is designed very nicely. The staff was lovely and helpful. Some meat was a bit dry, but overall, great quality food, and the sauces were incredible.

Came here for someone’s birthday on Saturday. Ordered the honey tacos and it came as mini wraps and it was cold. The chicken in the other meals was dry and didn’t taste very good. Apart from that everything else was fine. Every other table around us had their bill taken over to them apart from us. I would not go back.

The serving size is large. My husband and I shared a pulled pork sandwich. It comes with fries and a side. So filling, we had a hard time finishing it all. The Cajun fries are good. It was good food, not mind blowing, but definitely good and filling. £21 for the both of us combined not too bad.

A lovely wee cozy place to just relax, chill and enjoy the best BBQ food. The woman who served us was so lovely. The buffalo and South Carolina sauce was to die for, and we enjoyed the buffalo sauce so much we bought a decent sized jar of it ourselves for only £3! We will definitely be back.

Walking down the steep stairs into this basement diner feels like a journey into the heart of roadside America—if roadside America had the lingering scent of mildew (or maybe a wet dog, still not sure). The decor screams 'vintage,' though I can’t tell if that’s by design or just years of neglect. There’s a weird charm to it, especially with the mix of music playing in the background—it’s like the diner has its own personality. The food? Mine was alright, but my companion wasn’t as lucky. Her burger bun was so stale it could’ve been used as a hockey puck. Nothing worth raving about, but you don’t come to places like this expecting Michelin stars do you? You come for burgers and fries that do the job. Be warned, though: they’ve got a thing for fish-based sauces. If you're allergic, check the labels, because the sauce might come with a surprise tang of the sea. Had to go with ketchup. Now, about the drinks… let’s just say if you’re expecting a stiff one, you’ll be left disappointed. Mostly ice, barely any booze. That said, the service was a pleasant surprise—five stars, easy. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience a bit brighter. All in all, it’s a decent enough spot if you’re after an okay meal in a place that smells like your gran’s basement. Just remember to hold your breath when you walk in!

I just found the food to be really lacklustre for what it was and I didn’t enjoy it much. The people I was with enjoyed their meal but it wasn’t their favourite either. Service is good!

A great splash of actual American inspired food that isn't just hamburgers. I had a hotdog with haggis and it was incredible. Love the sauces, though they seem to be more Carolina/eastern style. Could use a few texan/central style sauces (sweeter, less vinegar). BBQ smelled wonderful.

Restaurant is down a flight of stairs pretty pokey. Not for the claustrophobic! Food was just ok I’ve had better ribs at a harvester. The chips were piping hot though and the staff really friendly.

We had a sharing tray. The whole tray was great with fall off the bone ribs. The pork belly was amazing. From my own personal experience, the worst item on the tray was the pulled pork, although it was still pretty good. Would definitely recommend visiting.

This place is definitely worth a visit unlike other BBQ places I have eaten you actually get a decent amount of meat on your plate and it's dam good too. Highly recommend the pitmaster tray its a decent feed for any BBQ lover.

Extremely disappointed in the food and service today. Got the ribs and wings combo. The wings sauce was nasty, but whatever not everyone likes every sauce. The BBQ ribs were the real disappointment cooked plain then bbq sauce squirted on top. Lazy. Not even enough sauce, half my ribs were dry. Service check in came way too late in the meal so couldn’t be bothered complaining. Sticky tables too.

Would be good to include in your description of the dirty donut burger that there is am extra jam filled donut at the top of the already plain donut sandwiched burger. Was a surprise. Thankfully wasn't bad but maybe a tad sweet with the amount of syrup that it is already doused in. Glad I got fries with it with their 3 sauces at the table already - no mayo but they were a nice range of spicy & savoury. Cheeky tiki was a really nice cocktail. Thanks for the friendly service, aside from assuming I was a table for 2 with the equally east asian guy behind me when they could have waited to listen to me going a table for 1 please. Very cool postered vintage/comic walls & decor

The restaurant is quite nice. The service and staff are very nice and they also do take away if you are interested in that. The food is made fast and overall seems fresh. But tbh i wasn't the biggest fan of the burger. i took the fries where great, but the burger was decent nothing special

Tasteless food and like many places here in central Edinburgh a tourist trap. What can I say, forget it or come if you are very hungry and have few demands.

A hidden place if you love American-style food with very quick service! Had the buffalo chicken tacos 🌮 which were nice. It did feel a little bit rushed to get you in and out the door quickly

Ordered the sharing platter. And the brisket was as tough as an old boot completely over cooked the the point could have been used for a chew toy for a dog. I didn't even bother pulling them up about it the fact they let this come out on a plate shows the pride they have in their food. I couldn't even get the fork into the meat yet brisket is supposed to be tender !

If you are in the mood for good bbq definitely try Bubba Q. The bbq has a good smoke flavor and great options of sides. It has been several years since I’ve been in Texas and had good bbq. This was a great approximation!

Great BBQ just off the Royal Mile - I have been here 5+ times on my travels and it doesn’t disappoint. Walking down the stairs you feel like you are entering a cellar, however it is nice and bright and has plenty of tables. It’s definitely worth booking in advance if you are a larger group (and probably anyway just to avoid disappointment!) The mixed trays are always a good hit to share around the table. The bbq pit beans are a favourite side for me! With the stairs getting in, it’s not disabled friendly

I am really not sure why this place has such high ratings, the place is below mediocre! I had full slab of baby-back ribs and my wife a chicken tortilla taco. The baby-back ribs were nuked in the microwave and then they put some bbq sauce on top so to mask the grayish looking meet, they were screaming hot. Mac and cheese were also nuked and they stayed piping hot while i tried to it the ribs. My wife’s chicken taco had some weird taste, she has a couple of bites and stopped, i tried a piece of chicken, and could not figure out the weird taste, and we stopped eating that. Chicken has some weird syrup on it which was sweet. I ended up leaving about 1/3 of my ribs. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The fries were the only thing that looked kinda ok to eat and tasted like fries. This does NOT come even close to anything BBQ or American BBQ! Tourist trap!!!

really disappointed with the food, the beef in the burger was tough and solid, as was the beef brisket. i’ve never had anything like it it was tougher than i’d ever had. it was no better than a wetherspoons burger i’d pay half the price for. not sure why this place is as highly rated as it is

Maybe slightly biased because I've been craving proper American BBQ for some 4 years now, and this joint delivered to the fullest. And you will really be fullest after a pitmaster platter.

I enjoyed my meal here. It was good BBQ food. The pulled pork and chicken on the pit plate were the highlights, where as the brisket and ribs were a little dry. It was quiet when we got there, just before 5pm which was a nice relief from the busy Royal Mile.

Bubba Q has a cool quirky American atmosphere which leaves you looking at the walls and cool posters everywhere. The waiter was nice but the food was below average. whilst I appreciate they advertise saying the food doesn’t come boiling hot ( which doesn’t make sense to me for a bbq place) , but the food came cold. The ribs weren’t soft and the chicken was dry suggesting it’s been sitting there for awhile, I suspect all the food is made freshly and left in trays to be assembled based on the platter you want? No idea. Regardlsss, the cocktail came out a carton which cost like £9? Did not expect a restaurant such as this to not mix their own cocktails and unsurprisingly it wasn’t good. Would not recommend this place at all, the sauces were good and so was the chips.

Food was really tasty and service was polite and efficient. Keep an eye out for the service charge added to the bill though. Overall very good, Would definitely re-visit.

Great place for really good American BBQ food. Unfortunately, we discovered this place too late on our first visit. The first 6 photos are from 2023, the rest are from June 2024. For tourists who don't pay attention to calories, this is the place for you. The milkshakes should also be great

The bubba q has a relatively inconspicuous entrance and initially a steep, narrow staircase. I always have trouble making a decision when it comes to eating. Overall I can't criticize anything, the girls are all very nice and do their best. The online reservation also went smoothly (credit card required as they charge a no show fee). Of course, since we were there on time, we didn't have to pay this fee. If you like a rustic, rustic atmosphere, you will definitely get your money's worth here.

We went here based on some good reviews and were a bit disappointed. We both had the ribs and chicken wings and the ribs were a bit tough. Definitely did not fall off the bone as they should. £3 for a small can of soft drink was a bit steep. Two main meals and two drinks was about £50 and that was a Tuesday with 25% off barbeque meals. Based on our experience we wouldn't return.

(This is my first time dining at an American bbq restaurant) We (2 ppl) shared a pitmaster tray including free fries and a side. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken are included in the tray. The meats are lean and a little bit dry, but the flavors are fantastic. Different sauces are provided to enhance the tastes. But my fav is definitely the cheese n garlic fries (the BEST fries I’ve had in Edinburgh!) I would love to come to the place just to get the fries! Mac n cheese is quite disappointing… the flour taste is really obvious, and it is definitely not cheesy enough. But the food is worth the price. (Around 15 pounds per person splitting the tray)

I walked in at 17:30 on a Wednesday and there were not a lot of people there, which was a bit of a red flag as usually BBQ places are busy. I went for the Pit Masters tray. It was a good amount of food for the money. The positivists:- - Pulled pork in a bun was really good. Moist and flavourful - Macaroni cheese side was nice. Sauce was smooth and not overpowering - chips were hot - great selection of BBQ sauces on the table The negatives:- - The ribs were more bone than meat - The chicken was ok but was a wee bit tough - The brisket didn’t seem fresh, like it was older than that day - A £3 service charge is cheeky as well

Stopped here with the family pre-Hamilton show. Glad we did. it's a cracking wee spot for grabbing some food. It was quiet wqhen we arrived but was buzzing by the time we were leaving. Service was good, and the food was really tasty and the drinks on point. Will defo visit again next time we come thru.
