Delicious fragrant curries Came here with a couple of friends, it was a little spendy, but the depth of flavour in the curry we had was top tier. I ordered a chicken madras, asked for proper spicy, but got white boy spicy nonetheless... ah well. it was really tasty though 8/10 Naans were great, fresh and tasty, paired perfectly with the curries.

Guys, please. LOOK INTO YOUR BUTTER CHICKEN because it is not butter chicken. Restaurant is located on a quiet street and entry way was nice and bright. We sat down starving ordered whatever we saw. Lamb chops- cold Butter chicken- small bowl, not butter chicken , cold. It tasted like I was eating spoonful of onions. It was missing the basic ingredients, cardamom, kasuri methi, butter..??? It is a bad dish. I liked the saag paneer but very bland. I guess it is ok for your majority customers. Naan is very good and rice portion is small. Staff are nice, working fast and loads of seating but food needs help.

Have being going here for a very, very long time since a student and love it but recently I have become aware the pakora for instance (5pieces) costs over a pound per small pakora piece , rice has also been cut back. PLEASE PLEASE get back to what you used to give as you will end up loosing long time clients. We always dine in .

One of my top 3 spots for a curry in Glasgow - so good. Being walk ins only, this is a great spot for an impromptu dinner. We only waited around 25 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night after struggling to get a walk in anywhere else in Finnieston. The food here is tapas style which is nice and doesn’t leave you feeling as overly full as some more traditional curries might. Been a couple of times and the food is always fresh and flavourful. The peshwari naan bread is unbelievable.

We selected chicken dishes costing £7.95 each accompanied by one portion of boiled rice and one naan bread. We didn't expect full sized portions but nor did we expect only three small pieces of chicken each, a tiny portion of rice and a mini nan bread which was so thin that it was hard and flaked when lifted. The serving dishes that held the chicken in an insipid sauce were cold as were our plates meaning that our meal was lukewarm when we started and cold by the time we finished. Add two soft drinks and two coffees to the meal for a total cost of £38.00. We won’t be back.

I recently had a disappointing and insulting experience . My family and I visited with the intention of enjoying some snacks, not a full dinner. From the outset, the waitress should have asked about our plans, but instead, she was unwelcoming and rude. Despite placing a small order, we were told we were taking up too much space and were pressured to order more. This culminated in the waitress asking us to leave, which was incredibly insulting and left us feeling unwelcome. This experience has left a bad taste in our mouths, and we won't be returning. It's unfortunate that the staff's attitude overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable visit.

I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The food quality was mediocre, and the portion sizes were so small that they could be mistaken for samples—except, unfortunately, they weren't. This is what they consider a full dish! Mother India’s? I can't imagine how they came up with that name. As for the ambiance, it was below average, adding to the overall letdown. I don't plan on coming back. We ordered some food and we had an incredibly disappointing experience. The garlic naan bread was stale and flavourless. It kinda tasted like a supermarket garlic bread. The Peshawari was better quality but so sweet that it couldn’t possibly be eaten with the curries. It was as sweet as a dessert. The aubergines curry had no description so hard to know what to expect and it was just weird. Way to much cumin. The butter chicken tasted artificial. The pakoras weren’t crispy at all, probably frozen. Everything was super greasy. It was so sad, we also spent quite a lot of money on it for simply being unable to eat it.

One of the worst experiences, they kept us waiting for 20 mins and when we placed the order, after 10mins the owner came and asked to place minimum order of 5 dishes, they said they have other customer who can order high billing value when we denied and asked us to leave the restaurant. Have not seen such greedy people and staff who will not only push to order more but will ask you to leave if you order less. We ordered 3-4 portions and could have ordered more after tasting the food but still they have no courtesy and simply let their customers leave. Also we were with an infant and they do that have courtesy at all. In fact how can they ask us to leave pathetic, I mean what kind of restaurant was that. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed! Mother India was top of my list to try because I'd heard so many good things about it but the food is disappointing. I had the pakora to start which was superb and it's generally a good sign when the pakora are ok from an Indian restaurant, but the chicken tikka just wasn't good - the sauce was watery, the chicken pieces tasted strange and the pilau wasn't good either, it tasted like paprika rice without any spices. Probably better to call it paprika pilau rather than pilau rice on the menu. Everything arrived hot and the courier was great, but the food was disappointing. When I finally collered the chap in charge he was very apologetic and took the Substandard items off the bill and drinks which was kind of him... Still added a service charge of nearly £10! We had chicken biriyani, it was slightly over spiced and we are used to spicy food. The mushroom rice and breads were fine but nothing really special. The vegetable curry was also nice. We asked for the remaining food to be bagged to take away with us, however only some was given back to us. But the biggest issue was the waiter giving a ten minute ‘WARNING’ to leave the premises. A warning!!! Staff were very rude! Not one smile between 4 or 5 members of staff. Very unhappy with the service! Going here for lunch with the family was a last minute decision. We googled Indian Restaurants and Mother India's Cafe popped up and we decided to try it out. We got there around 1 pm. The place was fairly busy but we managed to get a table in a couple of minutes. Staff showed us to the table with proper courtesy. Menu isn't extensive and seems to be aimed at the target audience of local (UK) and international tourists. However we were able to find something interesting for us. They also have an amazing kids menu which we used for the boys. Food: Arrived exactly at 10 min mark (my son was marking time). Ot was well presented and was of good quality. We requested mild food and it was exactly that - mild but tasty. Portion sizes aren't large and some might find them smaller, compared to other Indian restaurants. Service: Quick service. Although the waiter seemed to be in a grumpy mood. When we were almost finished with the meal, he abruptly questioned: "finished?", in a not very friendly tone. Perhaps he was having a bad day - not a biggie. Other staff members were pleasant and friendly. Overall, a descent restaurant at a great location. Good for families, groups and couples.

We had the chicken packoras to start and keema rice, butter chicken, chicken dansak (specially made for me as it was not on the menu, thanks chef). Now I know some people had said that the portion sizes are smaller but we were stuffed after the meal. The meal was good value for money, £55 for two and that included a £26 bottle of wine. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I thought I would point out that the mother India cafe is the restaurant we went to not the mother India restaurant which is next door (very confusing) and apparently a completely different business. I have marked 5 stars for service and atmosphere but I didn't actually dine in the restaurant we had a home delivery and I didn't want to negatively mark on these aspects. We usually order and collect from our local Indian but as it doesn't deliver and we were unable to collect we thought we'd give somewhere else a try. After hearing various people chat about mother India we decided we would get a home delivery from here. Despite being the other end of town it didn't take long to arrive and the food was still warm hence the two stars. The naan bread was the poorest I'd ever seen it was basically an enlarged chapati with some garlic slopped ontop. When we order a naan elsewhere it is large and doughy. We also ordered a chasni which, usually is bright red, I appreciate different places make it differently however this was a mild yellow colour and tasted the exact same as my boyfriends dish that he'd ordered. Could have sworn it was the same meal in 2 different boxes.

Having visited mother India restaurant many times I finally got around to trying out the cafe. Kicking myself that I hadn’t tried it out sooner. All the great flavours from the restaurant but in smaller tapas style portions. Absolute genius as you can share lots of different dishes if eating with friends. We did, and every dish was superb. Service was great too.

My wife and I visited tonight and had a dreadful experience. We were seated at a small table for two with restricted space. We had been seated at the same table last week and I was discomforted while dining, as I am disabled, so my wife asked to be moved to another table today. This was accommodated, then a female server approached our table and said in an abrupt manner and loud voice that we had taken her last table for 4. We didn’t take any table, we were seated by her colleague. My wife pointed out that I am disabled and needed some extra space, when the waitress said that the table was good enough for us last week and my wife was just using my disability as an excuse to get a different table. Customer-centric? No!, Disabled-centric? No! Her response was both crass and insensitive. I think that every diner stopped eating to watch and listen to her loud comments. My wife and I were left extremely embarrassed and distressed, and simply left the restaurant. If this behaviour is representative of the restaurant or staff, then, no thank you, we won’t return.

Lucky enough to walk in and get a table, not long before the queue started outside. And it is now obvious why the queue formed. Why have I not been here before?? Amazing food and quick service, will definitely be back soon.

If you’re hungry, don’t choose this restaurant. Portions are very disappointing. Not good value for money.

The restaurant was full on a Tuesday afternoon. We waited for a table for a few minutes which was fine. Food was authentic and served as it was cooked. The lunchtime menu was great value plus we added in extra dishes. Highly recommend, we saw one bad Google review (which was rubbish) - go and see for yourself.

After struggling to book anywhere on a Friday night in Finnieston, we chose to come here as it was walk-in's only, and we thought we might get lucky. Turns out we did - arrived just as two tables were settling their bills so only a 5 minute wait for a table. Quickly supplied with drinks, and order taken. 2 starters, Garlic Mushroom Dhosa and Fish Pakora. Nice flavours, but Pakora contained a lot of bones, which put us off a bit. We got 4 tapas syle dishes for mains, highlights of which were the Ginger Chicken, off the Specials board, and the Butter Chicken. Rice was good, and we ended up ordering a Naan as we had quite a bit of sauce left which was too good to waste. Nice atmosphere, good food and service, and, being here to see Black Keys at the OVO next night, bonus to see that their touring band were in enjoying the food as well.

tl;dr: avoid this establishment. I am sure I am going against many others, based on the reviews I have read for this place. Nonetheless, this has to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had. I was travelling alone and spending a weekend in Glasgow. Consistently, one of the greatest highlights whenever I get to come to the UK is the Indian food. It is the only country on earth that I have found whose Indian food is comparable to what can be found in India. Additionally, it has been guaranteed to be satisfying, until now. I had been walking for a while through the city enjoying sites and was examining a menu in the window of a different establishment. While reading, someone came up to me and asked if I was looking for really good Indian food. Indeed I was and they directed me to this place, which was only a block away. I was excited at the thought of a great meal at the end of a long day. I arrived and the manager, who was extremely polite, told me there was a 10 minute wait, the place was rather busy and getting busier. I was more than happy to do so. When seated, I ordered the saag paneer (extra spicy), a mushroom dish (extra spicy), and a glass of water (the first two can be seen in the picture). My server confirmed my spice tolerance and left with my order, this was the last I saw of her. The food arrived in a timely manner, brought out by a porter from the kitchen who seemed surprised that I did not have a plate yet. Thankfully, the plate was quickly fetched. They say the first bite is with the eye, and it was a good bite indeed. Unfortunately, it was the only good bite I had. The food was medium spicy at best and very lacking in any other flavour. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that mushrooms with barely any taste of umami are unacceptable. The saag paneer was something a street vendor I knew in Delhi would be ashamed to serve. Nobody came of their own volition to ask me how my food was. About 10 minutes after I took two bites and gave up, I was able to flag down the manager. I explained the situation as I have just done in this review. To his credit, he offered to try to fix the situation and said that this was most certainly not the experience I should have had. Unfortunately, between the abysmal attention by my server and the lackluster performance by the chef, I had no confidence in this establishment's ability to salvage the situation. I declined to take him up on his offer and left. As a solo traveler, I have experienced prejudice by restaurants serving a table for one. I do not know if this was the case in this instance. However, the other patrons around me seem to be getting much more frequent visits from their servers, none of whom were dining alone. I would suggest anyone considering giving this restaurant their patronage to only do so if your alternative is starvation. Just be careful, you may succumb to thirst. The water never arrived.

Ambiance is good but the staff does discrimination if you're an Indian. One of the worst service I've got in any place in the city. They were rushing to get us out, didn't even wait for us to finish the food before getting the swipe machine. Also, we noticed that they were serving complimentary papads to non Indians but didn't serve us. Would not recommend for food also - bland for indian standards. Definitely not worth the ratings it has here.

Really disappointing. I thought the reviews and the food would live up to the hype but I'm honestly confused. Everything was very greasy. We had the chicken pakora which was greasy and didn't taste of much. However, the quality of the chicken was good. The nann wasn't nice, bland and very doughy. The two curries both were chicken but had two different types of chicken? Curries were okay at best Would not return. We both rated it a 4/10. Very disappointing :(

We came across this restaurant by accident while looking for a place to eat, and what a blessing it was. The food was 10/10, best curry I ever had. The two ladies that were working that night were super lovely and helpful. Absolute 5 stars out of 5, and if I could give more I would. Will 1000% be coming back when we’re in Glasgow again.
