Nice pub with a cozy atmosphere, outside the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh. We discovered a nice beer (staff let us taste a few beers), the cocktails tasted good and we even tried fried pickle. Recommended!

A wonderful surprise. A very relaxed and cozy pub to drink and eat something (and stay away from the royal Mile crowd)

The restaurant serves mainly hamburgers, but there is a big variety of options. The waiters were extremely kind and helpful. The atmosphere inside was really special in my opinion, the only thing I could complain about is that the meat was a little burnt, but still it tasted pretty good.

Great burgers (it is mostly burgers), service was good, and the ambience was nice. We had two quieter nights there, but it was really enjoyable. Dog friendly, too, which was brilliant

'wide range of 25 Craft Beers', expected a wide range of craft beers but was disappointed as most are common beers you can get at many pubs. Erdinger, Madri, tenents and Pauliner and not craft, a rough calculation would say 10 craft beers. The place was warm, staff were welcoming, food looked good.

Fantastic wee pub - great selection of draught beers including sours. Nirvana played at their sister pub 'the Southern' - but they couldn't be arsed heading to the grassmarket.

I went to Holyrood 9a with some visitors for a meal and such a shame the burgers were so poor. They were dry, bun quite stale, (tasting like few days old), overall not very tatsy. I used to live in the area few years ago and visited the pub frequently then as the burgers used to be good. Good for beers, not good for food.

Great selection of beers! The burgers are very tasty (I tried the cheese and bacon), although a bit dry. The regular fries were great but the sweet potato were a bit soggy. Feels very cosy inside, especially on a rainy evening. Very dog friendly! The waiter brought our dog a water bowl and a little plate with treats immediately after we sat down.

Very good burgers. We've been disappointed a few times over the last few days, but not here. The meat is fried to perfection, chic garnish and also good beer. My vegi Haggisburger was exceptional and tasted absolutely fantastic.

Visited last night after a festival show. Thankfully we remembered to book. First time , very impressive. Staff were amazing . Friendly welcome. Made you feel welcome and wanted throughout. The food was excellent. I had the Holyrood 9A Burger which was packed full of flavour cooked to perfection . Great value My wife had a BBQ version also superb. Drinks normal town prices. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

The team here was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the burgers and even the Haggis. It was great, especially on a rainy day.

Huge selection of beers with many on tap. My favorites are the Peach Melba Sour and the Tempest Long White Cloud. Had the Haggis Burger and Bacon Cheeseburger. Haggis was delicious, the beef on the other burger was thick and a tad dry but overall had a nice time there. My American taste buds just may be picky about my burgers, so give it a try regardless of my review.

Nous nous sommes arrêtés dans cette brasserie suite aux bons avis que nous avons pu lire et franchement très déçus. Nous avions commandé deux bières, la mienne était chaude, ce qui n'était pas agréable du tout. De plus, nous étions placés dans un endroit très exigu alors que le restaurant était loin d'être plein. D'ailleurs l'emplacement était tellement exigu et pas pratique, qu'au moment de nous servir, la serveuse nous a fait tomber de la bière sur les vêtements. Concernant la cuisine, nous avions commandé deux burgers et deux desserts, rien d'exceptionnel, les frites étaient froides et le haggis très gras. Des restaurants bien meilleurs et moins chers à quelques pas seulement. Malheureusement, je ne recommande pas.

Nice little place; quite busy. We were feeling a bit under the weather the day we stopped in, so the option of ordering small servings of beer was appreciated.

Great burger and great craft beer. One of the few places that had sours but they also had a great varied selection. The manager even allowed us to taste other selections from the draft as well. The entire staff was friendly, Homey and comfortable.

We found the drinks really good, the food absolutely mediocre to bad. The burgers were boring and the fries simply didn't taste good. The ambience was ok. Somehow everything seemed a bit dingy. I'm sure there are better burger places in Edinburgh.

We were last here three years ago - and unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. The burgers are still OK, but they used to be better. The food as a whole was a bit bland. The service is still very friendly.

Had a lovely meal here with my husband tonight. The three waitresses working were all very friendly and recommended some local beers for us to try! Despite not having a reservation, the young woman managing the restaurant was able to find us a seat quickly and gave us some great tips on where to visit during our trip. Will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh!

Delicious breakfast for one. My Haggis and Egg breakfast roll just disappeared. Service was super friendly and the coffee was top notch. Will be back for tomorrows breakfast for sure!

Truly some of the worst service we have ever experienced. We ate here on a quiet Sunday evening. Our waitress came to take our order and did not write it down. By the time she had taken the four of our orders she had forgotten the first two. I ordered a BBQ chicken burger. The food was incredibly slow, especially given how empty the restaurant was. When our food arrived my burger was a beef burger. I queried this and was met with a defensive “I didn’t hear you”. Surely this does not count as a valid reason for getting the order wrong? Wouldn’t it have been much more logical to write down the orders instead of incorrectly inputting them from memory? Our food also arrived without ketchup. We asked for this and were told it would be on the way. Five minutes later there was no ketchup, we queried this again and were told that a staff member was “filling them downstairs”. Five minutes later this happened again until another staff member came in with a new bottle of ketchup from the shop saying sorry they had ran out and he had to go to the shop to buy some. Keeping in mind this is a burger restaurant and ketchup is surely the most common condiment requested. We struggled to understand this situation. Lastly, I used the bathroom before we left. The ladies was in an exceptionally poor state. The toilet seat had been broken into pieces which was left on the floor. Even more disgusting was the overflowing sanitary bin beside the toilet. I would avoid this horrible restaurant. It was very telling there was no one in the bar or restaurant by the time we left. I voiced my complaint to a staff member who offered a weak apology. Avoid.

We had a band lunch here with about 20 musicians. We were served in great time, together, with all the individual choices spot on. Burgers are brilliant and there’s a good range on offer. Tap beer is massively varied and the service so helpful.

Popped in for dinner with some friends and their dog for dinner after a long, cold and wet walk around the town. Very welcoming staff and the place had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Food was super tasty and reasonably priced. Highly recommend. 💯👌🏽

this is a great spot with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. i got the halloumi burger which was quite tasty and the drinks were quite good as well. overall a great option for groups who have food restrictions or preferences.

Edit 2024 visit. Beer selection changed since last visit 2.5 years ago. Much more standard / national range and less interesting now. So a nice place but beer policy seems to have changed dramatically. Review Sept 2021 Very nice craft pub. Walked past it twice and didn't realise till i googled "craft". It was written outside, but then it's written outside lots of places that aren't crafty. Bit of a tardis. Both bigger and nicer on the inside than it looks like from outside. Lots of taps but about 10 on today due to covid i presume. Still, good selection friendly service on a quietish Friday afternoon. Well cared for. Beer and place. Will come back next time I'm in town. Recommended.

The drinks were good and the beer selection was very varied and recommended. The food, however, is extremely not recommended. The waiting time (if there are few guests) is 45 minutes. The burger buns are cold, the meat is dry and the “original” burger consists of a little sauce and a lettuce leaf. None of the components have any real taste of their own. There is a large selection of sauces for the fries, but they all taste the same, primarily fatty and vinegary. Cumulatively really not good. However, highly recommended for a beer.

Visited with five pals on a Tuesday night in December. The lasting impression I have is of the staff, and their friendly and super-attentive nature. Nothing was too much trouble, and they had that uncanny knack of remembering what everybody had to drink on the previous round! The burgers were also tasty and filling. We’ll certainly be back for more.

We first heard about Holyrood 9A through an online blog whilst looking for dog friendly places to eat and drink in Edinburgh, and were very happy to find it very close to where we were staying. We visited twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Both times the staff were very friendly and attentive, food was delicious and we really enjoyed the selection of beers and cocktails. Also on both occasions, our dog was presented with a dish of water and some biscuits on a little silver plate - he was very appreciative! Definitely on our list to revisit and recommend.

Today 13th January 2024, I visited this PuB first time in this year. All staffs were very kind as usual. All ordered foods were very good as usual. We had very nice time in there. Thank you! Popped in for a quick bite to eat whilst visiting family and ended up staying all evening!! The bar boasts a large range of local beers and the veggie haggis burger is to die for! We were quickly welcomed by a friendly Aussie woman (we didn't get her name) and although they seemed to be very busy on a Saturday evening, she was able to find us a seat. The large selection of local draughts is ideal for beer lovers and our server Elena was super friendly and had great knowledge to help guide us novices through! Great food, great patter from the staff, and great atmosphere. Truly a lovely restaurant made even better by the friendly staff. We can't wait to come back!

Great pub but you will pay premium prices for location

We came here briefly on a Saturday evening. The girl at the door was lovely and my husband asked if they were dog and child friendly (she said they were) and we went in. The lady on the bar also was very welcoming. We however were met by a snooty girl at the bar who seemed confused as to why we were there but gave her the benefit of the doubt and sat down. I then asked the same girl if she had a highchair to which she replied “not up here no” and then seemed confused when we left. We had previously been told it was a child friendly place and therefore assumed a highchair as my 18 month old isn’t going to sit in a proper chair. She then asked an incredibly snooty, smarmy way “oh are you leaving” to which I explained the lack of highchair was the issue, and her respond was “it’s an adult place”. That’s absolutely fine, HAD WE NOT JUST BEEN TOLD IT WAS CHILD FRIENDLY BY SOMEONE ELSE. We ended up eating back at our Travelodge which was dog and child friendly and actually had a lovely meal. Not sure what her issue was with us or children but she seemed to have an issue with us that none of the other staff had at all. Shame as it seemed a nice place other than for her stinking poor attitude

This was a lovely experience! Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, a really good burger and fabulous wine! Oh and silver service for our dog too. Really accommodating to my daughter who is a wheelchair user. Thank you guys!
