This place had great reviews but none since 2022 so thought i would give it a try to compare with others in the area. First things first on a positive note the fish was absolutely outstanding with the best batter ever. For me, however, that's where it ends! Chips were like cardboard, mushy peas tasteless and as for the irish curry sauce - i was told it was spicy but on the scale it had zero spice and was very sweet. My meal was further spoiled by the slapdash adding of salt and vinegar - the server gave this no attention and just slopped it on to the extent that one half of my meal was inedible because it was full of salt whereas the other half had none at all. Great fish but don't think i will be returning.
He probado varios de los currys de Marks y cada vez me han dejado boquiabierto los sabores, pero el Mutton on the bone de esta semana fue absolutamente magnífico. Muy recomendable.
sadly disappointed with this venue
The food was ok plenty of it
Our biggest concern was it was so cold that we ate our lunch in our coats
I know that energy bills are high at the moment...but some heating would of been nice....my phone suggested it was 13 degrees...im of the opinion if you are open for business then your customers should be happy with food....drinks....and warmth

Absolutely fantastic service! Our waiter was not only friendly and funny but also incredibly professional. Despite being a vegetarian himself, he handled our meat dishes with great care and was impressively knowledgeable, answering all our questions with confidence. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a great dining experience, making us feel welcome and well looked after. His warm personality and attention to detail truly made our evening special. Highly recommend both the restaurant and this exceptional waiter!
Unlike croft Street and the bearded sailor, the fish and chips were pretty poor we all thought. Batter, hides the fact that these are pre frozen fish and chips, chipies called fish bars usually are. Definitely better chip shops around.
Went here for a birthday meal. Food was brilliant. Service was excellent. We got variety of food everything was spot on. You need to try this place. And make sure at the end of food you try their cheesecake and turkish tea!
The coffee was delicious. The cakes and pastries looked lovely. Were spoilt for choice, settled with the gingerbread cake which was divine.
Excellent service. Lovely surroundings.
A definite go to place. You wont be disappointed
We dropped in after a ten mile hike so we’re pretty hungry. The place looked busy but had lots of empty tables so we decided to give it a shot. Ordering at the bar took some time as only one girl taking orders and making drinks. She advised 25-30 mins wait for food but I took a gamble and ordered. The food came in about 15-20 mins so not too bad but could tell they had been caught out by the lovely sunny day/1st March. Helmsley was packed! Anyway food was okay just over priced for what you get. Tuna melt ciabatta with some skinny fries (not homemade) and a small salad £13.50. Also if you’re paying those kind of prices should get something amazing but it was just average. Not bad but nothing special.
No cutlery or napkins brought to tables and had to ask as none left in the little trays inside either. Sauce in hard to open sachets and loos were a bit untidy. Like I said think they were short staffed or caught out with weather.
We had a lovely meal, deep fried arancini, followed by fantastic pizza cooked by Stef. Great thin crust and tasty topping.
Didi is very friendly and welcoming.
Good value for money.
