Regency Restaurant, York Located at 16 Barbican Road, Regency Restaurant offers a delightful Chinese dining experience in the heart of York. The restaurant features a diverse menu with a variety of Cantonese, Szechuan, and Hong Kong-style dishes, making it a great spot for both dine-in and takeaway. Food: The food at Regency Restaurant is generally well-received. Many patrons rave about the BBQ ribs, which are described as having an incredible sauce. The dim sum, while not the best some have had, is appreciated for being the only option in York. The king prawn dishes are also highlighted for their excellent taste. Service: The service can be a bit hit or miss. Some customers have experienced delays, especially with takeaway orders, but the staff often make up for it with friendly service and gestures like complimentary desserts for long waits. Dining in, the staff are usually welcoming and attentive, ensuring a pleasant experience1. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is cozy and traditional, with a layout that includes a Chinese supermarket next door, adding to the authentic feel. It’s a popular spot among locals, including the Chinese community, which speaks to its authenticity and quality. Overall: Regency Restaurant is a solid choice for anyone craving Chinese cuisine in York. Got sausage chips and curry sauce. Sausage was tiny. In Scarborough you get 4 of these for same price. Even charged extra for carton. Very stingey. Typical tight yorkshiremen.

Very unpleasant experience Service was really unwelcome and very unhappy. Food not really at the level aspected for a place of that level. To be noticed that also the table behind us was really unhappy with the service and made it clear to the server. It’s a shame as the place has a very good potential. Definitely not coming back or suggesting it to friends

Having rebranded the hotel recently and therefore this restaurant the new place was thoroughly disappointing. We went here as part of York Restaurant week. Part of the voucher was to get 2 courses each. The main dishes were bland to the point I didn’t finish mine. The dessert was stale. I’m not one to leave desert uneaten but this one I had to. After telling the waiter this, all he said was he would pass it on to the chef. It’s not somewhere I would return which is a shame given the beautiful premises.

The maltings it a large traditional pub. There is a good selection of beers, lagers, and cider, including hand pulled cask conditioned real ales. The cask conditioned ale i tried first was a stout and not in good condition, so i changed it for a bitter, which was better. The pub is featured in the camra good beer guide.

We loved our stay at the York Ibis in May 2023. We had a lovely 1st floor room with a queen and two twins. It had recently been renovated and was simple, but pleasant. This was extremely walkable to the Old York Walls. We especially loved the Indian Restaurant nearby. We found the staff to be very friendly, accommodating and kind.

Went for a coffee and snack. Asked for a warm bacon buttie. Lovely staff. Very pleasant. Very helpful. Surprisingly delicious bacon bap for a quick microwave in the bag job. I really enjoyed it. Fresh and very tender and very tasty shock horror. Great cappuccino. Only thing that spoiled things a little for me was the usual horrible sticky table surface that seems very dirty. I don't think it is dirty. I think it is the usual reaction of table cleaning liquid with table Polish surface. It often happens and even your phone sticks to the table and you have to put things like serviettes under it.
