Thor’s Sol Ast in York

Very nice little place in York with a friendly atmosphere with the wood fire in the middle of the teepee. Canadian stand with very good poutines. Good mulled wine that we didn't expect to find but welcome with the early nightfall. The price is nevertheless expensive for a cup of mulled wine, £5.5.

Reasonable Guinness to say it’s in a plastic glass. Expensive drinks, service was ok, pretty quiet so lacked a bit of atmosphere.

A bit underwhelmed. Came here at the weekend. Only take cards which isn’t good as I had cash. Cash is king! The small benches to sit on aren’t safe and one lady fell over. Overpriced small beer. Personally think it’s a rip off. Only positive it was warm inside. Sorry not good enough for the price and no cash policy

This is a lovely idea. The only downside is I wouldn't say the options for drinks and food are like the best as it's a small menu, and even though it's in a tipi it is still cold

I'm not sure what's happening with this company quite clearly an amateur setup as myself and my wife are staying at the principal hotel in York. Arrived Garden looked great big tent lots of outdoor seating says open 12pm-11pm thought great sat had a drink 17th july Sunday evening then went in to town for a meal came back just after 10pm oh unfortunately we are closed still few people sitting outside asked why it says closed at 11pm and your already closed the reply was as that's the decision that's been made so that was that. Then all day Monday spent our cash in the garden went for tea and said to my wife let's head back for 9.35pm to ensure we get a drink guess what no surprise closed the reason was we decide if we have enough customers to stay open and we don't I counted 25 still drinking tragic Setup almost embarrassing being in the gardens of such a prestigious hotel

Nice place, great in the sun. Should be 5 stars but terrible staff not thinking about their customers or even the planet. We left a bag of food behind when going to the toilet. 5 mins maximumwe were gone, we came back to pick up our food. The table we were sat at was cleared away and our bag of food gone. We asked if they had it behind the bar, apparently it 'wasn't handed in'. I explained it wouldn't have been, its a brown bag of food, its likely your staff threw it in the bin without checking when clearing away the table. Disgraceful, can't even check or leave customers belongings 5 minutes before throwing the in the bin. I'm beyond upset and angry. So many are going hungry at the moment and yet someone who works here thought it OK to throw a customers good food In the bin within 5 minutes of them leaving and returning to collect. Staff need to do better.

Not as nice atmosphere as the one in the town centre. Shame there wasn't more fires and cosy spots. Just lots of long tables in rows. The lights on the ceiling were fab though. And the mulled wine was great.

Warm, friendly and good food. Not badly priced for drinks too.

Loud brash crowded in main area. The overspill tipi with central fire is very atmospheric in a Christmassy way

We were promised a refund of a drink my 19 year old daughter was refused (as no I’d on her person), as we had to order via an app payment of over £20 was made for three drinks. I was promised a refund of the drink into my account by two staff members, I’m still waiting!!! Abysmal service and very poor communication. Will wait a long time for refund I think, even though a manager made the promise, laughable service!!

Stay clear of this bar it's a joke, we bought two cocktails which should have been a long island and pineapple and ginger mojito, they were nothing like!!!!!! But at the cost of a real cocktail in a cocktail bar. Also if you are staying at the principle hotel which we were they say you get 10% off but you don't because you have to order off an app which doesnt give you the option!!! What a waste of £16 spent on two soda waters!!!!

It's a really nice setup in a nice location, but the drinks are abysmal. The cocktails are pre-made but so widely inconsistent! One of them was literally just soda water. Extremely disappointing

Had a relaxing cocktail. Bar is based by the principal hotel which is by the station. Drinks are reasonably priced. You order and it is brought to you. Plenty of space.

Had a another brilliant day out at Thor's, this time the new sperry at the Principal hotel garden, York. Great location with parking, lovely venue and service. Drinks were flowing on the lawn. Food options are minimalist but tasty, nice for the kids too. Look forward to returning soon.

Been on a train for 4 hours and hadn't eaten. Only had enough for a long island ice tea on my card using the app. I wanted to get food with cash. Found out you cannot pay using cash even though it doesn't say anywhere you can't pay in cash. The piri piri food stand said I can pay exactly £15 in cash but only had £20. I asked itlf I could pay cash for a snack as I felt like i couldn't drink the ice tea and just said no, there's nothing they can do. They really need some signs up saying card only, I wouldn't of got the drink if I knew. Poor service and business. Just money making, no care for customers.

Very very slow and poor service. Takes at least 45 minutes to get a drink once you have ordered. There was only 2 of us that ordered a beer. Definitely not be returning. Also it is not ibiza themed at all. Very disappointed

Great outdoor space for social distancing. Whoever cooks the steaks knows what they are doing. Perfectly cooked. Staff are very busy but very good.

I've been there 4 times so far this summer, and enjoyed the experience very much. The place looks great, and the staff do their best to provide a good and safe service. But unfortunately I must acknowledge some issues already mentioned in other reviews here: orders sometimes take a long time to arrive; no clear table numbering, so it's common to see staff walking around with a tray and asking if you have ordered a lager and a Lagherta; limited food options, which become even more limited throughout the day when they run out of Ragnars. And even though you should start looking for the toilet 5 minutes before you really need it, it's a much better choice compared to portable ones.

They've really made somewhere nice that makes the most of social distancing regs. Gorgeous place, great staff. Not tried food yet but will do soon.

We have been here a few times since it opened this season. There’s plenty of space for social distancing. The staff come and take your orders and bring the drinks to you. They also have a company called Hog & Apple and we ordered the vegan sweet potato loaded fries. Not personally a vegan but it was absolutely delicious!! The slushy cocktails are great and you feel like you’re in holiday!! Good choice of beers and ales!!

Firstly I would like to say this is not down to the floor staff, but down to the awful organisation. Myself and my girlfriend took 50 minutes to receive our first ordered drink which is silly. We complained and it still took another 20 minutes. Secondly, it isn't clear which members of staff are responsible for what, I asked if I could order food from one, they're reply 'not from me' but they're all dressed the same and appear to do the same. Furthermore, it's clear they are unaware of the table numbers, we watched several orders walk around before getting to their correct destination. Finall the toilets are in a completely impractical location - the bar owners should have portable toilets ready for use rather than have guests trek to the Principal Hotel's conference toilets. And there was a constant huge queue, lots of empty seats and nobody clearing tables to allow potential customers to sit down. Again I want to stress, the stuff were lovely, and apologetic, I really hope this review is listened to by management and those in charge, as they are the incompetent ones. I would give it 1 star, but it is in a lovely location with incredible potential. (I have five years experience in hospitality, I'm not just being picky)
