Fabulous service and food. Lovely gentlemen, polite and friendly. The food was absolutely scrummy and well enjoyed. Would definitely recommend and will definitely use when in the area!!! We ordered chicken tikka masala, pilau rice and chips, one of the best sauces we've had.

Picked up a takeaway, coming from the train station. Basically, disappointing. There's much better indian food in York than this, and York isn't exactly a hot bed of Indian food in the first place. Biryani in particular was one of the worst ones I've had anywhere.

Haven't had Shahi Tandoori for 7 years, we used to live in York, now visiting from Manchester we had to try what was or favourite takeaway. We were really pleased to see it's still almost the same in terms of the meal, the tikka masala in my opinion the best around, haven't been able to match it in Manchester and couldn't match it when we lived here, we ordered it to our premier inn, the staff at Shahi are nice as well. Our delivery did take a while but they were apologetic and I can see they were really busy and I get why their food is so good.

2nd takeaway. Just as good, if not better than the first. Absolutely gorgeous. Would highly recommend.

Shahi Tandoori Takeaway is Indian Takeaway in Nunnery Lane, York. The food is halal, fresh and delicious. I ordered the Rupchanda (Bengali Fish) and Aloo Chana. They were both succulent and spicy. Ordered via ChefOnline. The delivery was quick and the driver was courteous. This is the best veg takeaway near York.

We have ordered two takeaways from Shahi through Just Eat. The first took a long time to arrive but the meal was good. The second never turned up. The delivery was tracked on the Just Eat app to within 200m of our address, then it claimed that the meal had been delivered. It hadn't, we were looking out for it and nobody had come to the house. Both my wife and I spoke to one of the staff at Shahi. We asked him repeatedly to confirm that our meal had been handed over to a courier but we couldn't even get an answer to that question, let alone whether it was someone provided through Just Eat or someone they employed themselves. While failing to give us any information and declining to take any responsibility the gentleman got increasingly testy and eventually gave us a number for Just Eat which turned out to be for restaurants, not customers, to seek advice on. Needless to say we will not be using this takeaway again.

I used to come here alot used to be amazing but as a single person since they rose the minimum order to over 17.50 now over 20 I stopped coming ... my partner came so I ordered a lamb biriyani medium it's was pretty much tasless the lamb was dry the veg curry that it comes with was also pretty tastless I ordered a mix of meats for a starter but that was the only good thing about this order and the humongous bags of chips that my son loved but after not returning for a nearly a year I was fairly disappointed with the quality and taste of my main .

So tasty, quality is so good and just so tasty! Soft naans, fluffy. Old school chips and rice has been great (in the past tonight was chips) and such a lovely guy who runs it! Can be busy though. Try tikka on naan :)

Great food, great price, solid guys. They had a hectic night this evening but didn't let it affect the quality of the food. Have the aloo palak pakora, you won't be sorry

As this is our local takeaway we have had a few from here. We ordered a takeaway and we had to wait an hour and half given we had rung prior to give sufficient time. You need to check before you leave as sometimes you don't get the 10%discount for collecting and the free popodums with every meal.

Affordable and good food, friendly staff! Very solid portions also. If we come back to York we will def order here again.

I am a local at the Shahi and the food is always amazing. Abdul is a very talented chef and always tries his hardest to make every curry extra special, not to mention the lovely service I receive every time. The most basic of curries are made with amazing flavours that outrank any others in York. I highly recommend as this is the best family run curryhouse around for miles. Freya x

The best Indian takeaway in York no question. Flavoursome and the Balti was superb rice perfect. Every time I go it is consistent best to pre other as gets busy. Far better than the two sit in Indians on Bishopthorpe road.

Really poor, arrived 45 mins late, ok, can deal with that, but wrong order and nearly cold, and the order was wrong. Not great unfortunately.

Bit weird. Tikka massala tasted and looked like BBQ spare ribs. Far too sweet and sticky. Veg biryani just flavourless. I haven't had a good curry in York for a while. This is pretty much the worst. Yet somehow when we ordered they said they were "very busy", so someone must like it.

While I am not widely traveled and certainly no expert on Indian cuisine, I am convinced that Shahi makes the best Tikka Masala in the whole world. It is so delicious that my wife and I nearly gave the middle name “shahi” to our new born child. If Shahi Tandoori was around in Ancient Greece, their poets would have lauded their Tikka Masala. If they had a shop on Mars, America would have landed there before the moon. And If a house ever comes for sale nearby, you can be sure we will move there in a heartbeat

Worst tandoori I ever had, wish I'd read other reviews before ordering, I agree with all other negative comments, poor poor poor, mono flavoured, never again, should be ashamed, I bet they would not eat this themselves, so why serve it and charge us for it?

It was the worst meal I've ever ordered. I only took 1 spoon from the food and couldn't swallow it they put too much salt in it £25 I paid, I'm sorry that my money went to waste.

They serve the best softest tastiest meats and Currys last 3 times fairly late and a few things missing and then most recent time I waited 2 hours 5 minutes ...and now I see the delivery charge has gone up to 3.50 under 17 pounds on foohub I was actually going to return upon good faith but this has swayed me away ! .Thankyou to my usual delivery guy though he is a very kind polite man fairwell shahi!

Ordered a takeaway via uber eats. When it arrived it turned out to be wrong and was a third of the worth price of our actual order. I have 7 girls to feed for a hen do and when we spoke to the restaurant themselves, after much silliness (honestly, I don't care who's fault it may or may not be, we don't have our food and you have our money at this point!) Eventually restaurant agreed to send a new order with their delivery rather than uber eats, within 20 mins. This was not honoured and when we called an hour later they refused to honour their previous promise and once again gave us nonsense about who's fault it is and that creating a new order would make them out of pocket. We all know this is not true, as we all know the mark up with restaurant food. So let's summarise, I have no food, I have been lied to and it has been made clear that I, as a customer, am not valued in any shape or form. We have now had a refund but my goodness did that take a ridiculous amount of arguing to gain. Appalling service and shameful behaviour. Utterly dispicable.

If this could be -100 rated it would be. We was given the completely wrong order for 1 person when was a group of 7. The manager is the rudest man possible shouting at us refusing to give us a refund or even provide us with the correct food, then decided to put a customer on the phone to speak to us. Absolutely shocking and awful!

First class customer service first class food if your in York stay away from the usual overpriced places and head here just as good if not better than the curries in Glasgow

Ordered via Just Eat. Came promptly but lukewarm. I ordered vegetable bhuna which promised a mix of chickpea, cauliflower and okra, instead I got mixed veg of carrot, cabbage and onion. It was pleasant enough but I was disappointed.

I have just had one of the best Indian meals I’ve had in a long time. I enjoyed a chicken tikka starter, chicken tikka dupiaza main and a kulcha naan. The food was gorgeous and I finished every last bit! The service was also great - I was greeted with a friendly smile (as always in the Shahi) and a genuine ‘Enjoy your meal’. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back soon.

Ordered through Just Eat. Ordered Prawn Dansak, chicken tikka masala, chicken madras. Each meal was in identical sauce. It was later on when we ordered and it’s obvious that rather than turn the order and money down they put the chicken and then the prawns in to whichever sauce they had left at that time. It was identical, deep red, had separated and there was a layer of oil on the top of each takeaway carton. It was the first Saturday that the pubs were open after lockdown and late. I think they hoped that we would be too drunk to notice. WRONG, it was inedible and we binned it. Complete waste of money.Do not order from here.

This place is the best Indian takeaway I've ever used. I've ordered with them for 10 years now. In that time I've had two late deliveries. The menu is very diverse and they accommodate my gluten intolerance as well as my friend vegan and lactose free requirements. They give a 25% discount if you spend over 30 pounds. I cannot recommend them enough.

Very poor service! Placed an order for delivery, was given 45 mins delivery time after waiting 1 hour and 15 mins I rang up and was told the order was on its way but he couldn't give me a time but he TOLD to give the delivery driver a TIP!!! How rude, when I said I didn't want the order he told me to take the order but to not order again.... very poor customer service. Will not use again.

Food turned up on time but lukewarm. Bread undercooked, sides substituted for something else, feel rotten after eating. Don't recommend at all.

Poor curry dry chicken, doughey breads almost no sauce, most mild curry ive ever had there is no flavour.

Delivered the wrong meal and proceeded to swear at me down the phone instead of offering any help. Food that we did get and had no choice but to eat or go hungry went cold and was all watery and gross. Won’t ever return

I go to a lot of Indian restaurants. I am generally left disappointed as even the ones with good reviews are very samey, often either ridiculously spicy of completely bland and often full of oil and colouring. This place is remarkably good for the price. It looks outside like another bog standard Indian place but the two times I got take aways in April they were really well spiced, good quality meat/chicken and generally excellent. Very impressed and will go again... update: been twice in recent weeks - once it was only "ok" but this week it was excellent again... every restaurant will have bad days - still the best value for the type of take away it is in York. Mirchiz on Fishergate is a bit better quality food but also more expensive. For a "local Indian" type restaurant it's better than the competition.

Always our go-to takeaway place. Great curries every time. Plenty of vegetarian options which is always a plus for me. A couple of times we‘ve had items missing or not quite right but it’s always been sorted out with the restaurant pretty quick and effectively

Our go to Indian, we are slowly working our way through the extensive menu, the chilli chicken is to die for, we have tried others but the quality and quantity are not matched, for example their chip portion was 4 times the size, and their chicken dishes are more chicken than sauce, these guys are the best!

Probably the best chicken korma in York. The peshawari naans are delicious too, full of coconut. I've tried cheaper places and places which offer rice etc included in the cost of the korma but keep being disappointe, they really don't compare to Shahi

My first and last ever takeaway from this place. Food was very bland and I got more grease than chicken on my meal. Stay clear.

Ordered food at 6.30pm. Received it at 8.50pm. My husband had already had to leave for a night shift and kids had to go to bed so was a complete waste. No apology, offer of discount or any sort of compensation. The food was luke warm, greasy, oily and very small portions.

One of the best take aways in York, highly recommended. A little slow at busy times, but definitely worth the wait.

Got delivery from Deliveroo twice, the first time having no problems and spectacular food, however the 2nd time I got delivery, one of the currys came half full which was extremely disappointing as I had my girlfriend over for a date. Not happy at all will be complaining on Deliveroo and will update this review accordingly.

Ordered through just eat, recieved a phone call 5 minutes after placing the order with the restaurant requesting more delivery money on top of the £1.50 already paid. We said we would come to collect instead but the restaurant said they wouldn't refund the £1.50 delivery fee paid as that was just eats money. Asked to cancel the order and they agreed. Checked just eat after 10 minutes and the order still wasn't cancelled. Called the restaurant back and they said that we need to call just eat to be refunded and they couldn't help. (dispite telling us before they had cancelled and refunded it!) Refund finally received with the help of just eats customer services.

We have had takeaway from Shahi for a while . We are in Bishopthorpe , York now not in Scarborough.The best . Found this after a bit of trial and error. Never looked back! We request with less oil and they always oblige. Really tasty and feels like home cooking. Highly recommend it. Thank you.

Ordené el menú fijo para 2, no esperaba demasiado del último lugar de comida para llevar abierto a las 23:30 del lunes por la noche y me sorprendió gratamente. Fácilmente el mejor indio que he tenido en Inglaterra habiendo vivido aquí por 2. 5 años. Muy sabroso y curry picante y grandes y sabrosos lados. Conductor de entrega super amable y rápido también. Yo y dos amigos pedimos dos tandoori pollo y un pollo biryani.Todo era asqueroso y apenas comestible, me gustaría poder mostrar imágenes de lo mal que estaban.En primer lugar, el Biryani estaba sin la salsa como se indica en el menú y también puede haber sido pollo con arroz. Las dos gallinas Tandoori eran negras y muy secas, casi no se parecían a las gallinas y todas tenían una hermosa bolsa de lechuga, tres salsas todas al mismo tiempo, chips secos podridos y terribles palomitas. Recomendaría que nadie use este lugar, una pérdida total de dinero.

I got food poisoning from here. Extremely dangerous food practices. The Food and Health administration are looking into banning them so just be very careful.

Visita exprés a York y el restaurante quedaba a dos minutos de nuestro alojamiento. El dueño muy amable. Abdul nos ayudó a elegir y a pesar de nuestro inglés macarrónico pudimos hablar un poco con él.La comida estaba muy buena, tanto los platos de curry como el arroz y el pan. Sirven rápido y hacen la espera muy amena.Recomendable si vas con prisa y tienes algún sitio cercano donde pararte a comer.

Shahi has a great reputation in York for it's food. Abdul the owner and chef is really generous and kind when you come in...and it comes across in the food. The curries are just beautiful...best I personally know of in York. I love going there! Nad spice is another really good one.

Ordered meal waited two hours told it would be an hour, rang several times, said reordered and would send out still didn't come, when rang back to see where food was they were shut. Will never use them again.

La comida siempre es fantástica, y la gent en la recepción siempre es muy cálido y amable y nos reconoce y hace que te sientas como si lo que le interesa que hemos de volver. Sugeriría colección si puedes porque los conductores entrega a menudo perderse o tomar siempre, especialmente en un fin de semana.

Siempre despachan a tiempo, la comida caliente muy rica, y son muy majos, recomiendo este restaurante indio.

I have ordered from here previously and usually love it, the last time I had an issue with them, it took a hour and 40 minutes for our food to arrive I spoke to the manager he offered me discount for next time and apologised to me. So tonight I thought I would give them a second try, I was told on the phone it would be a hour and half I agreed that this was fine as I know its busy. He offered me some discount because of my previous experience. 2 hours and 30 minutes later the food still had not arrived! I got a call from the driver I rang back cos I was on the toilet and he'd gone and said he had gone to deliver to the next customer! so I rang the takeaway and complained and they said well please consider us this time and take our apologises I said yes but this is the second time I understand that it's busy I do I really get it I've been a chef for 7 years but I've waited 2 and a half hours which is ridiculous he said we will get the driver to come now and I said I'm not paying the full £10 (even if it was discounted from my previous experience) when it's taken you so long and the fact it will be cold! He just spoke over me and was so so rude. Needles to say I never received my food and WILL NEVER EVER USE THIS BUSINESS AGAIN!!

We love the shahi. Food is great service excellent and you get very generous portions. One main course and rice between the two of you and a starter is all you need for a satisfying friday treat.

Paid for a keema nan - it was missing. Ordered a king prawn and lamb biryani, but there were no King prawn. Never again!

I've tried different places and nothing compares. The food in my opion, many others agree is the best in York. Sure everywhere has an off day and it does get busy but Abdul is always friendly and welcomes us with open arms every visit. You get free poppadoms and dips which is a rarity and should be standard, there's more to the gravy than watery soup which is often the case. Others should take note.

This is my local takeaway and have used it for as long as I care to remember. Today I had a great chicken korma and egg pilau, my boyfriend had a chicken tikka masala and chips. The portions are always plentiful and piping hot! The chips filled my boyfriends bowl, as they always do, so he has his curry separate. The creaminess of the korma is spot on without being sickly and the rice is always perfectly flavoured with at least 8 different spices and is always just the right level of moist. Keep up the good work, it doesn't have those certificates on their wall as voted the best curry in York by York's fire station for no reason!

I am surprised, and somewhat shocked, by the poor reviews given for this place. I have had many takeaways from here, and each one has been very good. This place delivers consistently tasty food and the people that work here are very friendly. If I compare the takeaways here to the other indian takeaways I have had in York, I would say that this is certainly up there. I have had many watery and flavourless curries from other places, but this place has never let me down. I highly recommend Shahi Take Away!
