Taste is Okay But not as I expected.

Absolute pleasure eating here. Food was delicious and for the price it was well worth the money. Great options for vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Owner and staff were lovely, made us feel right at home. Very nice atmosphere perfect for an evening out. Would recommend every day of the week, whether it’s takeout or dine in it’s worth it!! We had a lovely time at this restaurant this evening. All the staff were so lovely and attentive and polite. The food was delicious and for the price we got a lot more food than other restaurants would offer, very generous portion sizes. The menu had so much to offer depending on dietary requirements so there’s something for everyone! Will definitely be eating again here soon. Thank you again!

I've been visiting this restaurant for years with family and friends and it has never disappointed me with it's amazing food, with great service and a homely atmosphere. A truly unforgettable family owned business. Absolutely adore the new menu with such a wide variety of authentic dishes to choose from. Can't wait to try it all!

Took my Dad hear for his birthday a couple of weeks ago. I had the chicken madras and treated my dad to the Lobster Moilee which Dad said transported him back to his times travelling with my late mum around India. Really great night and the staff were so friendly. Definitely cummin back when we’re up country again.

Absolutely fantastic establishment. Brought my family here and the service was impeccable - very rare for many Asian restaurants. We had the chicken 65 starter and hyderabadi lamb shank and WOW! Absolutely fantastic food. We followed up with the ILS biryani, and were not disappointed at all. Anyone who needs a good meal, MUST come here. We had a lovely meal, excellent starter and main course. The portions were generous. A curry and rice each and a shared naan was ample. The staff were friendly and helpful. Had a nice chat with the owner afterwards.

Phenomenal family owned restaurant. Staff are very friendly and provided excellent service. The food is so good and there's so much to choose from with their new menu. I’ve been to many curry houses across the world. The The Indian Lounge in York is one of the best. Brilliant food and a good range of choices. I never visit York without going to the Lounge.

New favourite spot! Huge variety of freshly made food. Great friendly staff, the service was quick and the food is amazing. Highly recommend the butter chicken 😍 The mango lassi is a must too.

Intrigued as to how our food bill came to £86.60 when eating here yesterday evening with our 2 children, we shared x 2 starters and x 2 curries and sundries and according to the menu this should of come to £44.75 so it looks like we were charged the additional £41.85 for x 2 pints of lager, a diet coke and a lemonade absolutely scandalous! When my husband was taking his time looking at the bill to query it we were advised we could not take the bill with us and provided a VAT bill that was not itemised. Will not be eating here again!

The food was great, service wasn’t bad either. This is the place I’d go for proper Desi food. The place is still being constructed by the looks of it though, wasn’t a problem for our group though.

Have been choosing to get takeaway from here for years now as the food is delicious and they are always so generous with their portion sizes. You get a lot of amazing food for the price. Clearly marked allergens on the menu and have never once had a reaction as someone who is gluten free (coeliac). I've only been to dine in once and the venue was okay, but I'd just really recommend their takeaway service. Excellent!

Probably the worst Indian meal I've ever eaten,I had Chucken Tikka madras,it was bland and watery with no spice,the chicken was chewy and dry.It reminded me of a microwave meal from Iceland,And to top it off was charged 70 quid for 1 starter and 2 mains ,the place was empty and now I know why

CHAPATIS ARE MY NEW YARD STICK TO MEASURE MY FOOD BILL. PLUS THE ONLY THING DECENT ABOUT THE FOOD WAS THE SPICE NOTHING ELSE. ALL SPICE, HOT AND TASTELESS. £7 FOR A BEER AND £4 FOR A PICKLE TRAY. SAME FOOD IN BRADFORD, BETTER QUALITY AND TASTE WOULD BE £60. VERY POOR. STAFF WAS AGRESSIVE WHEN CHALLENGED ON THE COST. SHALL I BEND OVER NOW DAYLIGHT ROBBERY HAS A NEW MEANING ITS CALLED INDIAN LOUNGE.

Wow, the waiter might as well have worn a striped jumper and a swag bag. £7.50 for 3 chapattis and £21 for 3 beers - absolutely bonkers .I feel violated.

The worst indian food I've ever had! Ordered a takeaway and asked for the food to be certain way. Soon as I opened the container it was seeping with oil. I ordered a lamb jalfrazi and I'm 100% saying this was beef not lamb many indian restaurants do this to keep cost low but obviously I could tell it was beef. I ate half a naan with this dish boy did I regret it I was woken up this morning with severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea. This place needs to be investigated by health officials! The toilets the kitchen need to be inspected ASAP. You are a disgrace to call yourself a indian resturant!

hadnt cooked dinner, noticed it was very late, they were the only indian open. absolutely massive portion, really great.

We decided to go in here for a meal after the gosht walk . We was shown to our table very quick on ordering drinks we was told they didn’t sell alcohol an was told we could go an buy a bottle off wine at the local shop . On arriving back to the restaurant we ordered our starter an was given poppadoms which was very nice the starter was lovely the curry also lovely . The staff was really pleasant we had a lovely time .

We were visiting York and missed having Indian food so we decided to look for an Asian restaurant. We walked towards this place and decided to give it a try. We were shown quickly to our seats and given the menu to choose. Whilst we were choosing our food we were given poppadoms. The food we ate was lovely, it could have been spicier but we still enjoyed it. The food price was reasonable too.

After looking at the menu in the window, we noticed a mixed starter for two being necessary for the meal. Shown to our table, albeit a bit tight on my side, ordering went smoothly. Delicious popudoms with lovely dips. Allowing us to take our time ordering the main course, the starter was a delight. The main course arrived swiftly, probably because they were closing soon on a very wet Saturday in July. Asking for a tip on the debit card, I declined. £52 was enough to send!!

A very poor experience unfortunately. The lamb was so tough it was inedible. When I spoke to the waiter to complain he was very rude (I found out after he was agency staff). I spoke to a more senior member of staff before leaving who was very sympathetic to my complaint but didn't offer any resolution. Not somewhere I would recommend.

Me and some friends had a weekend in York and had our final meal here. Normally a good curry is full of flavour, this place was lacking on all of ours and one had to be sent back, the nan bread was ok had no beer tap or bottles. We found the staff a little blunt too. What a shame for what we had to pay..

The starter was pointless. The smallest amount of sauce in the pickle trays as to render the popadams inedible. I’ve never received such a poor amount in a pickle tray. I’ll be going back to the viceroy for my Indians again as they are far superior.

Came here for a works related birthday meal. It's a no frills good Indian restaurant. The place was clean and the food good. Despite there being quite a few of us the service was quick. I've seen lots of comments about staff stood watching people eat and I noticed two staff stood to the rear of us but were simply being attentive should we have needed anything. Would return.

Wish I had read the reviews before went here. They are all true. Been to York many times had many wonderful Indian meals but this was awful! Cost £48 feel like I have been robbed. They asked if all was ok I just said yes as there was no point getting into it. Tasteless expensive and No atmosphere.

We have been here a few times now and now I think I should speak my mind. I really do think as a couple (two males) they tar you as the same brush! From the minute we arrived here we were sat by the front of the restaurant (as usual). We ordered and from the moment we got our food we were watched like a hawk from start to finish and I mean watched like a hawk. I’m sure they think that we were going to do a runner. Asked for the bill and was presented with bill and asked do we want to leave a tip? Are you joking? Erm no thanks! Absolutely 100 percent will we ever come back here again! Food isn’t all that to be fair?

I looked at the reviews for this restaurant as me and my wife sat down to eat here and I saw it had quite a few negative reviews and I in no way cast any doubt over those reviews. If those people had bad service they should highlight it as they did. I can only speak about mine and my wife's experience eating here and it was brilliant. We walked in without a reservation, were seated straight away by a lovely waiter and served lovely food at decent prices. Overall a brilliant experience and we would definitely eat here again.

Dropped in on a Friday evening without a booking, and we were found a table without fuss. Immaculate white table linen, no easy in an Indian restaurant. The mixed starter was exceptional. The two different chicken curries were tasty and plentiful. Service could have been better it was a little bit fragmented at times, however, all in all, a good night.

Six of us dropped in on the off chance they could accommodate us, and they did. The meal was excellent, and all of us were pleased with the quality of the dishes on offer. Drinks prices were reasonable. It would have been a 5, but the service was a bit amateurish.

The food is not fully halal. And the staff were very rude and had no idea when asked about halal options.

We visited tonight as a couple, walk in with no reservations but wasn’t exactly busy. 3 or 4 tables occupied, we ordered poppadums and a main course. The poppadums came instantly followed by 2 rounds of drinks. An hour passed and no sign of our mains whilst people who arrived 30 mins after had their starters. When these people received their mains was when we decided to leave. We paid for our poppadums and drinks. Ours wasn’t the first order they messed up that night, the table opposite got 3 naan breads despite ordering only 1.

AVOID!!!!! WORST CURRY EVER! STAFF RUDE TOO. My picture was of a Malayan Curry ( coconut and yogurt base) ????? They were extremely patronising to me when I questioned it and said that I was not a local person as this is how they make it in York 🤬 It was the same base as my husbands curry so they couldn’t be bothered make too separate curry’s !!!

Simone was wonderful and food was delicious! Definitely go when you’re in York.We have been in London and traveling through to Edinburg and decided to stop here. York is such a charming town. Stop if you have the time.

It is hard to understand a negative review. Based on our visit it was terrific. The missus and I thought the food and service was brilliant. Lamb Taj, shashlick, garlic rice all good. Will visit again.

Food may be good but the staff is rude. They have used Indian in the name just to attract people who love Indian food but they have no sense of understanding what India is nor they have respect for India. After searching Indian restaurants in the area we went there at 18:15 and while my friend was querying i requested to use the toilet which i did use. When back I checked how much time it will take to prepare couple of items which we wanted to have as we were to catch a train at 19:14 and this is something we mentioned beforehand as we didn't want to miss our train. Knowing that we wouldn't be able to make it we decided not to eat there and before we could ask about take away the person attending us started using bad words for Indians. He even said we wanted to use toilet which is why we came there when only a fool would say this knowing that there are places of public convenience all over York and free too. This kind of made us infuriated and we decided to leave and then the attendant started abusing Indians and India which we obviously couldn't tolerate and told him that it is shameful that you are using Indian in your restaurant's name but abusing India which he didnt even bother caring. So we had to leave. This was with only one bad experience in entire UK that too at an Indian restaurant

It’s a shame 0 star is not an option. This is one of the worst restaurants in York by quite some miles. The staff are hideously rude, dismissive, and unpleasant, they treat the couriers that turn up as though they were dirt on their shoe. Alongside the general service by staff being shambolic, the food waiting times are disgusting, often 25+ minutes for a few items (this is with about half capacity tables, I simply dread to think what they are like with a full house). Simply dreadful. TLDR: Awful, avoid, bad service and long wait times.

Food was standard, but not worth what we paid, staff watching over you rushing you to finish your meal they couldnt wait to get the plates off you we felt uncomfortable, when we asked for our bill they asked us if we giving them a tip witch this is very rude, you don't ask people for tips...we will not be returning..

Avoid! Very expensive for the quality of food. They brought over 3 drinks by mistake which we didn’t order and almost certainly charged us for them but told us they were on the house. I would certainly not be going back in the future. Service was poor too.

Just been to the Indian lounge for a meal was good can't fault it starter two main courses and one nan and two bottles of cobra asked for bill came to £49 looked at bill meals where£ 30 which was fine asked why it was £49 and he pointed to the line above the bill and £19 was written on the line above the bill so was charged £19 for two large bottles of cobra feel such a mug totally ripped of myself and my mate are 72 years old so beware of these thieves young who has been a year and the older man who ran the shop since 2007 myself and my mate are angry with ourselves for being made a fool of 😠
