Jaipur Spice in York

I was notified after the order was fully made and paid for there would be a further 30mins wait. The meal was fine however far too much sauce on this occasion with the chicken. Not your usual great meal.

Food is very nice I’ll start with a positive. Service was very bad In contradiction to our previous visits the service tonight can only be described as poor. A poe faced female ushered us without comment to a table, she then whispered the question if we wanted a drink. We both have great hearing but neither of us could hear her. We asked for two popadoms and they were bought to the table with an unrequested pickle tray. We moved the pickle tray aside and thought no more about it. Imagine my surprise then when presented with the bill I’m being charged £2.80 for the tray I didn’t request, surely this should be included in the cost of the popadoms? The lad at the til who although was trying, clearly didn’t have a good enough grasp of English to deal with my query. He kept pointing at the bill and saying the total. The rest of the staff were busy tucking into the staff meal at the other side of the restaurant. Very unprofessional. I paid as by this point I was incensed. They should also train their staff on table manners. You don’t part clear a table when one member of the party is still eating. We had to wave for the attention of a staff member to ask if we could order as we had been sat there ten minutes. Including us, there were six diners so hardly rushed off their feet. A waiter approached our table to take our order but his hands were covered in what can only be described as bright red washing up gloves. He didn’t look at us directly but more at his colleagues dotted round the restaurant chatting. We are friendly with the management of this restaurant and noticed neither he nor his father were in attendance maybe this contributed to the poor service. Such a shame because on a good night this place is great and I have previously written a review praising the place. I emailed the restaurant a week ago with my concerns and have had no contact with them which has led to this review

Great tasting food. Really good quality. Delicious set meal for four.

Unfortunately the poppadoms were not included with the order although the pickle tray was. The poppadoms were listed on the receipt. Perhaps this could be rectified on our next order?

There was hardly any chips and they were cold. Normally my favourite Indian but this was disappointed.

We went tonight for the first time ever and can't wait to go back. The service, atmosphere and food were outstanding. If you're thinking of ordering we highly recommend but we would definitely recommend making a night of it and visiting the restaurant and eating there. Such a lovely place. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Thanks so much for making a lovely evening even better.

The order took 1 hour 45 minutes to arrive, 25 minutes late. The food was cold once it finally arrived. Won't be ordering again from Jaipur Spice or Just Eat as very disappointed.

Delivered exactly on time which was great as was for a family birthday party. Unfortunately most of the food was inedible. Ordered Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. Both tasted very bland, which is not the worst thing as both are mild curries, but they also tasted like they had both had a bag of sugar tipped into them. Never had a sugar based chicken tikka before - it was horrible! Had to throw Chicken Tikka Masala away and mix the side into the Butter Chicken curry to help it taste better. Decided best to then order chinese food for the party. Shame not edible.

food did not turn up.. when I called to ask about when it was to be delivered they, told me it was half an hour away, half an hour later when it wasn't here and I called they the put the phone down...

The food was out of this world, so tasty and delicious!! Although it was about five or ten minutes past the expected time, still very hot and tasted wonderful, definitely ordering again!

Best curry ive ever had.... wether takeaway or eat in it will just be perfect ! its that simple. 4 years ago visited york and had a meal there in restaurant and was amazing..... then last year we went away in caravan and ordered a take out from there and the quality and taste hadnt faultered at all now thats amazing well done Jaipur spice you are the curry kings

Ordered for delivery at 1910, turned up at 1835. Food was already quite cold and extremely greasy. Poppadoms were also largely smashed.

We ordered on a whim between Christmas and the New Year, and the curries were delicious especially the lamb one. The weather was dreadful but the delivery was on time. :)

The food arrived 45 minutes later than suggested and wasn’t hot on arrival.

Pre ordered so it would arrive on time, messaged me to tell me it was running late. Was showing eta would be 10 minutes late , when food was 30 minutes late it was still showing that it would be only 10 minutes late, very poor communication. After messaging them it finally turned up 40 minutes late. Food was warm at best, chicken was very large chunks and chewy. A poor experience overall.

My food was tasty. However, I was missing the poppadoms that I ordered and the chicken tikka pizza arrived and was completely folded in half and looked like it had been thrown in the box.

First of all this has nothing to do either with Jaipur or even with Indian food that tastes any close to Indian food. The recipes have been completely twisted maybe to suit local taste bud. So, if you are looking for an Indian food with an Indian taste, don’t get fooled by the name. Also, interms of hygiene, I wouldn’t rate them any good.

That is the best Indian meal I have ever eaten I believe, service good as well. Wish this was my local Indian restaurant, I would be in there regularly.

Wrong currys delivered. Curry that was sent was far to hot and spoilt our meal. Wrong items included in the pickle tray. Cold chips and naan bread. Normally really good from here but tonight they were very poor. Will be trying another takeaway next time

Delivery was due at 5.55 it hadn’t arrived by 20 past 5 so I rang up told it was on its way I then got a text saying order was running late it would arrive by 6.40 driver finally arrived at 6.55 without an apology food was cold really disappointed won’t order again

A very pleasant night, staff are lovely and a very relaxing venue to enjoy a meal. When clearing plates after starters asked if we were ready for our main or if we wanted to wait a bit longer, never been asked that before anywhere! Food is lovely and didn’t feel rushed, would highly recommend!

I didn't have high expectations. It does look from the outside a little like a convenient store. But....food and service was absolutely perfect. On my own and ate a lot including a doggy bag and two pints of Cobra for £32. Thanks very much

First time visit for me. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. The Chicken Darjeeling and peshwari naan were exceptionally tasty - I don't like a lot of spice. It was not unlike Korma but with a bit more taste. We were particularly well looked after by Shah. Will definitely go again next time I am at my sisters :)

Over an hour late and cold when delivered

I placed the order was told estimated time 730pm I know its estimated waited until 8.10pm no food rang them he said its on its way, waited until 8.50pm still no food rang up again he said its on its way I said I called 45 mins ago and it was on its way! He said weather is bad it's drizzling with rain! It finally got here at 9.15pm no poppadoms came which I ordered and paid for it's was stone cold the chips soggy the chicken was tough as old boots cold and oily it was all horrible for £29 and nearly 2 hours late I will not be ordering again we go here all the time to eat in and for takeaways will not again was so so disappointed not even a sorry for been so late and the food well I cooked myself beans on toast in the end was that bad

we order regularly and it is alway good. this time i just clicked on a previous order to reorder same food but was dissapointed to receive no salad or mint sauce with the Chicken Tikka

Really spacious clean and friendly place to eat good standard Indian restaurant fare. Reasonably priced and good friendly service. The chef took care to smoke the chicken dishes like Tikka and butter chicken. If anything the gravy could have been smoother but thats nitpicking. I'd go there again for sure.

Amazing. We’re ordered from here for years but visited for the first time last week. The food is delicious, the restaurant is huge and the atmosphere is buzzing. We will definitely be back.

Always nice food from here. However, the last few times I have ordered the balti dish, it has not included peppers. Although still nice, it seems the cost of living crisis is hitting this dish. Seemed more like curry sauce with few bits of big chicken and way too many chilli's. Still nice . It just used too br better with more garlic and peppers in it.

While the service was pleasant, the quality of the food was subpar. Every dish we ordered was extremely greasy, and it was clear that the chef had used excessive amounts of oil. The dishes were not only oily but also lacked the authentic flavors and ingredients that we expected. The oiliness of the food was particularly concerning, as it made the dishes almost inedible. It was disappointing to see that the kitchen did not take the time to prepare the dishes properly, resulting in an unpleasant and unhealthy dining experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a high-quality dining experience.
