Greasy.
We wanted a donut and a coffee from the shop upstairs but when we arrived, it was closed so we thought we’d kill the time by going for a breakfast. This was an error. The room is pretty cool, it’s a shipping container and has a decent menu and good drinks selection. Sadly, our cooked breakfasts were gross. The sausages were those horribly cheap, somewhat translucent jobbies. The hash browns had a taste to them that made me think that fat in the fryer had gone bad. We both felt a bit bilious for the rest of the day.
If you’re in the neck of the woods, just get yourself a donut from upstairs.
this is the best peri peri chicken kebab i have ever had. highly recommend. very reasonably priced. cooked perfectly and not long for wait time. will be returning.
I really enjoyed the sculpture park primarily for it being set around a nice reservoir. We walked around the whole reservoir and particularly enjoyed the 74 steps into Oxley Woods which provided dapple shade from the sun and was a great walk through the wooded area. My Fitbit at the end said I had done 10,000 steps so that gives you an idea of the circular route although you can go even further if you wish (if you are a serious walker you can probably spend 4 plus hours just walking around at a leisurely pace). Would also recommend if you have children - we took 7 and 3 year old and both enjoyed the walk and looking at the sculptures as we walked. Lots of parking as well and well sign posted. I didn't visit the visitor centre but it looked like it had food and toilets etc.
We visited this restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime, hoping to treat my 96-year-old mum, who is disabled and has dementia, to a nice meal outside of her care home. Unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant.
Upon arrival, I inquired about sharing a portion of fish and chips with my mum, as it’s easier for her to eat smaller portions due to her condition. The staff member mentioned she would need to check with management as their policy doesn't typically allow sharing. While I understand policies, the response from the staff was disappointing.
My mum's condition means she often gets overwhelmed by large portions, and I help her by putting smaller pieces on her plate to make her mealtime more manageable. When the staff member spoke with her supervisor, I witnessed an eye-roll, which felt unnecessarily dismissive and unprofessional. The supervisor then explained that sharing wasn’t allowed, even comparing my mum’s situation to another customer who is apparently 100, arrives in a taxi on her own and eats a full portion to herself - an example that felt irrelevant and failed to acknowledge the differing needs of individuals.
It was upsetting to encounter such rigidity, especially in a place where many of the regular customers are elderly. A more empathetic approach would have been appreciated. As a fish and chip restaurant catering largely to an older clientele, it would be beneficial for staff to receive training on how to better accommodate customers with disabilities.
Ultimately, we chose to leave and instead went to another Wetherby Whaler owned establishment where we usually go, where the staff were kind, understanding, and went out of their way to support my mum's needs. It was a far more positive experience.
For anyone with elderly or disabled family members, I would recommend seeking out more compassionate venues where flexibility is given.

Just visited for my first time since moving to castleford, Chloe served us & she was amazing throughout my whole time there. Such a friendly establishment and staff. Food was brilliant too. Highly recommend
Bar Service poor and staff uninterested , using their phones, rather than serving customers .wait a minute buddy while I finish texting !
lunch menu - rocket , with chicken strips dry wilted and inedible, chicken strips cold and dry
main meal - crispy chicken was bland ,very small portion size , chips alongside dry , all six of them . Sauce accompaniment resembled the parsley sauce in a frozen fish portion ,it was disgusting.
Wouldn’t go again!

I was looking forward to my free coffee from BB's earned from reward points. "Sorry can't give you it - you have the required 7 stamps but the points are split over two cards". You really have to laugh at the silliness of it all, but we'll be taking our coffee addiction to 200 Degrees Coffee in future.
Post review note: BB advised that I should email customer service, which I did. I did not receive a response.
