Kingfisher in Wakefield

I am celiac and had a bad reaction , complained and got informed that there were cross contamination signs in the take away, have been numerous times and NEVER use anywhere where it states cross contamination!!! Was extremely ill but fobbed off from supposed management!!!!

We are regularly here every week, simply the best fish and chips within 10 mile radius and we've tried them all. Food great, staff friendly, good service.

Excellent fish and chip restaurant. Staff are brilliant and service very good.

Lovely place and food was really good too, portions were just right with plenty of tea.

We went here twice in a fortnight, both for special birthdays. Both times, great experience and lovely food. Very fairly priced too which encourages visits over other similar places.

Always wonderful, occasionally sensational, today was out of this world.

Foods great, but by god it's expensive and takes an average of 2 hours to get your takeaway...

Stopped coming to this chippy about 8 months ago because the fish is undercooked, anaemic batter not golden and crispy and very greasy. Thought we'd give them another try, wish we hadn't bothered it's got even worse. Don't know how you can go from best chippy around to the worst in space of a year. Avoid.

Brilliant plenty of tea or coffee with your meal and the fish and chips were spot on highly recommended.

I have been in the UK for a year and a half and of the places I have tried traditional food, this is the best fish and chip place I have found.

Called for fish and chips, was a bit suprised as the fish a normally alot bigger than the one i was served, hope theyre not making them smaller and increasing price.

We love this fish and chip shop!! We often do both take-away and dine in. They have a few extra items on their eat-in menu. Everyone is always pleasant, and the prices are great. Portions are huge, so we either get regular or small fish & chips. The BEST thing is they have real old school fish cakes!!!! #IYNYN

This chippy has gone down since we last used it. the prices have rocketed and the value of the food has decreased. the fish was small thin and flavorless, the chips were fine and the so were the peas and gravy. the price was a surprise quite a lot for what you got, I would head down the road a mile or so to Wetherby whaler if I could. However there always seems to be a queue so maybe I just dipped on a bad day ? I wont plan on going back it is open everyday though as most chip shops in the area close through the week ?

The food is delicious especially the vegetarian options. I just want to point out though that being vegetarian and vegan are two separate things. Other than that delicious food

I've had much better, the haddock wasn't thick, very flat a bit greasy, loads of chips to make up the size of the fish, curry sauce wasn't served hot, came Lukewarm and bland . Disappointed overall lovely service and atmosphere

Just been in for a takeaway. The fish was small and poorly wrapped so was just fish pieces mixed with chips. The fish was very dry and swimming in grease. I went to George A Green chippy just down the road last week and it was outstanding, I went today and it was closed so I gave KF a try I will not be going back after today's poor quality

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid but hadn’t been for a few years. It was just as I remember, friendly, best fish & chips ever tasted.

We have been coming to kingfisher for a few years now at least once a month. What I have noticed is that the price increase and the fish and chips are not as good. The last few times have been very greasy, so it is time for a change. The Station pub at Crigglestone does a nicer meal.

It was my first time at Kingfisher and it won’t be the last.. The best fish I’ve ever had ☺️ There was a young girl with blonde hair who was very helpful and smiley, she’s a credit to your establishment.. Looking forward to my next visit..

£8.20 for a fish butty and a scallop the fish was tiny I bet the special is smaller than George a green standard size fish which is also a pound cheaper what a disgrace wasn't the best rather tastless I've had better much better

What has happened. We made a reservation as usual over the phone for a Friday night at 5.15. When we got there, there were nine other people there. We ordered our meal and when it came I was very disappointed with what was on the plate. It looked like a child's portion. Ok, it was tasty but it's the first time I've been and left hungry. Not many more people in when we left. The server said they couldn't understand why it was so quiet. It will be even quieter now as we won't unfortunately be going back.

Food was very very nice Pot of tea in a teapot that didn't leak everywhere even a small pair of scissors to open them awkward sauce sashes the restaurant was very very clean and tidy everything was thought of can't wait to go again .

Visiting from Ireland and sat in for dinner. The fish and chips were gorgeous and a good sized portion. Loved that bread & butter as well as tea or coffee were included with your meal. Good sized pot of tea with hot water also to add if needed. Staff were very friendly. Good senior citizen deal also!

The worst fish chips and peas I've had for many years. The fish was of a child's size the peas were terrible and the chips awful. The girls on the counter are rushed off their feet and don't listen to the order. I'm not going into it but it's terrible.

Had 2 times senior. special absolute rubbish batter soggy way below the standard that we are used to suspect every body that knows what they are doing are watching football. At the expense of quality. Won't be going back any time soon.

Having been a customer of kingfisher for over 20 years, sadly that won't be the case any more Having dined there this evening I am sorry to say that will be the last time. I couldn't believe the place was almost empty and the same faces you get to know we're nowhere to be seen. Having said that I can now understand why. The service by the very inexperienced teenage group who addressed adult customers as "guys" said it all when they didn't bring the correct order of bread!! It didn't get any better when the meal was served. The batter on the fish was soggy and yellow, the chips had no taste and all together left a us totally disappointed. Don't know what has gone wrong and sadly we won''t be going back. What a shame.

One of the best chippys in Yorkshire

Heard really good reviews about this place, so we went there but it was disappointing. We got served quickly, a few others waiting, but we got our food straight away as we only ordered 2x standard fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. Chips tasted like they were sat for a while or overcooked, it was very dry. The fish was quite small, and the batter was soggy, with no crispiness at all and very salty. The only thing tasted nice was the mushy peas. It was more pricey than other fish and chips anyway, and the food didn't match the price.

Overpriced for a takeaway fish and chips possibly better in the restaurant

Fish and chips weren't too bad for 13.50 fish small and handful of chips but peas and curry for size extortion at 2.65 each

Been coming to this fish & chip shop for years,it’s always been expensive but normally really nice fish today we called & the cod didn’t taste of anything especially not cod so I’m tipping it was coley a much cheaper fish a waste of money won’t be going back

Very friendly , modern and spotlessly clean fish restaurant . We had lunch there midweek without a reservation , this was not a problem but it did start to get busy as we were leaving so would book a table when we visit again. Our order was taken quickly and the food arrived promptly - well presented , piping hot and cooked to perfection. Beautiful haddock and scampi and proper chips - delicious !! Will definitely be back when in the area.

The only reason I called here was because I didn’t get off the m1 quick enough to call at barracuda as I have for the last 11yrs. My fault but got off at jct 39 instead. Fab service from the young man serving, very polite. Fish was tasty but way smaller than I’m used to, and way more expensive, as was the large peas (that came in a tiny pot at £2.10)?! Overloaded with too many chips (they were tasty too) to make up for the small fish no doubt. You all can do your homework on price vs quality on google and decide for yourselves, maybe it’s the overheads of the restaurant? Either way I won’t be returning.

The food, staff, service and building itself were all pretty good. The reason for a 3 star review I hear you ask? Value for money. We sat inside and it cost £30 for 2 fish & chips. And the portion sizes weren't great - would have expected more for £30. Would we go again, probably not but it wasn't bad. Maybe takeaway would be better?

Popped in one Tuesday lunch with a friend as he had recommended the Kingfisher. I’ve driven past this place hundreds of times and didn’t know it was there. I had a regular fish and chips plus a coffee and everything was really nice. I will definitely be visiting again.

I was persuaded to go to The Kingfisher Fish Restaurant by my partner who loathes chain restaurants of all types. How right he was but I was not expecting the experience I finally savoured. Nice smart clean decor, including the toilets. Met by a smiling waitress and refreshingly asked which table we would prefer. We were seated, given menus and brought top quality condiments and sauces. We both decided on medium haddock fillet with chips tea and bread and butter included in the price. Bread qood quality and butter portions you could spread easily. Tea was Yorkshires finest and piping hot with enough hot water and milk for three cups each. The fish and chips soon arrived and how anyone could eat a big haddock if this was the medium is beyond me. The medium ones were huge! The fish was hot and freshest ever with a thick bright white skinless meaty flesh with no bones, covered in a light crispy well cooked airy batter. It was heaven on your fork!!! Nice large piece of good quality lemon on the side thank you. The ungreasy chips were again obviously freshly cooked and hot hot hot. If ever a meal is not 100% I try to leave a positive spin with my comments. Not so here. I asked the lady who the fryer was as he cetainly knows every aspect of his job. To my surprise he came out and I thanked him for producing such a feast. Time to confess. I have had fish and chip shops and fish restaurants most of my long life but I would have been hard pushed to better this food and total ambience. We then discussed everything including potatoes, fish batter frying medium and temperatures at length and this young man knows far more than I did at his age about his craft and method. This meal was so good it's only the rules of swearing that stop me from saying that the whole experience was da da da marvelous. Thank you.

The worse chips I think I’ve had in a long time. Thick skinned, over cooked, dry and a lot of bad potatoes. For the money, not good!

Amazing local gem. Fantastic fish & chips, lovely restaurant and wonderful friendly staff. Love how they provide scissors for the sauce sachets!! And children eat free!! We love our visits to kingfisher ❤️

Dissapointed, the table for 4 was very cramped, fish sizes were definitely smaller, and fish was a bit greasy, which never had before not as good as previous visits

Travel here especially for the fish and chips as it's haddock. I get take away. I imagine the restaurant is just as good. Always on point . Can't recommend it enough.

A great place to eat, the food is hot and we'll presented. My only concern is the price includes, fish, chips, bread and a drink. Sounds great, but one of our party did not want chips, but no reduction on price. If you had them from the take away shop, you'd have a reduction of £2 to £3. Only saying.

Called in just after lunch today and it was still quite busy. The young man that looked after us was lovely, attentive but not pushy. The food was freshly cooked for us and very nice it was too. Proper Yorkshire tea and bread & butter too.

The fish hasn’t been battered properly and as a result is now unevenly coated which means all the uncovered bits are dry and chewy. I pointed this out to the person behind the counter, he agreed and even said it’s like the ends on a normal battered fish that don’t get battered properly they are horrible and dry and chewy too, he doesn’t like them. He told me there was not enough flour in the batter mixture for my one apparently 😂. But no offer to change it! So despite the extortionate prices that have been tolerable over the years because they were the best, now it appears that they no longer give a damn about the quality, or are not paying enough for a skilled person to do the job. Either way how insulting to us customers out here.

Wish I'd found this place years ago!! Really nice food and the biggest fish cake I've ever seen 😍 Thank-you, will definitely be coming back.

Just one annoying thing was having to butter my own bread in a restaurant!!! Please get rid of the bread basket and butter sachets and serve bread already buttered. The staff are friendly and dressed well. The fish and chips were nice The restaurant nice and welcoming.

Upon initially pulling up outside this Chippy in the middle of a village on the way to one of my local cruising areas. I was hungry. Could smell this Chippy from down the street. I was tempted to pull up, well it filled my little belly up and very very nice food. :-) well one of the best chippies have found the stuff were absolutely fantastic, polite, clean five stars, even the fish was nice.

Excellent fish and chip takeaway. Always dependable for excellent quality and good service. Parking is very limited and something to be prepared for. Definitely worth it, though.

4 of us dined in yesterday. The meal was excellent - fish & chips (and mushy peas) were cooked to perfection and the treacle pudding & custard very tasty indeed. Great value! Staff very pleasant and the service was absolutely spot on.

22 people queuing in the takeaway side. In 30 minutes only 1 person got served. Myself and others walked away. Service is appalling, can't serve food regardless of 8 fryers in the back. New staff needed.

First time at this restaurant and won't be the last. Greeted by Emma who was very pleasant and knew exactly what she was doing. Ordered the pensioners special which was fantastic value for money. Haddock and chips, tea/coffee,bread and butter and a dessert. At £13.80. was well worth the money. Fish and chips came very hot and was amazing. For afters we had jam roly poly and custard ,and ice cream. In addition and we've never seen it before scissors came with the condiments, genius!!. All in all a wonderful eating experience and will be returning. Thanks to Emma for being so attentive, a credit to the restaurant.

Fish was nice ..had to wait for a batted sausage which was greasy due to not having any time to sit Chips were horrible to the point where I wouldn't go back they had been left far too long in the chip tray ... I get it, foot fall is a hard thing to predict but when food has gone it shouldn't be served This was about 8 pm and the chips were probably lovely earlier so give it a go ..but go when it's busy and the food is fresh

Fish and chips were dry. Also ordered chips and gravy, the portion of chips were tiny with a even smaller portion of gravy. The young girl serving wanted to prioritise online orders over the long queue at the counter. Very disappointed and won't be back

I have never had a bad meal the fish, chips are always freshly cooked and tasty. So nothing to complain regarding quality, BUT the recent price increase has left a bad taste in my mouth. For 2 OAP lunches to come to a pension busting £27.60 excluding cost of driving there has made me think is it worth it. I understand that the cost of living has gone up but our pension hasn't gone up the same as everything else. Sorry but we won't probably be eating with you again as economics and Yorkshire common sense says its not worth the £40 it nearly costs to eat here with the cost of t

Been going for a long time and now just disappointed, fish tasted frozen soggy chips. Fish cake like rubber. and all way over priced,should be nearly half. Unfortunately don't think I'll be going anymore

I like the fish and chips here, we always eat in, they are not the cheapest but now putting the price up another pound apiece is pushing it, I no you can say it is only a pound but they are squeezing the last pound out of there loyal customers and taking them for granted. It is getting to the stage where you can go to a cheap restaurant for a meal for the same price, it is only a chip shop. Stop taking the p---.

Best fish I've had in a long time

One of wakefield finest chippys, eat in or takeaway, a little bit on the expensive side and can get very busy, but it's the only chippy we'll use.

Only bought takeaway but what I had it was delicious, not had fish tasting like that for a long time.

Always a great place for fish and chips
