The best restaurants in Helmsley Ryedale Yorkshire and The Humber

Popped in here for a bit of lunch after visiting the Castle, it was busy but the service was both swift and friendly. Really enjoyed the food, I had the Steak Burger the wife had a Tuna Sandwich, both excellent sized portions and freshly made, great value for money I thought and I could be a honoury tight Yorkshireman so I'm told. Only slight drawback for some was that it was a bit crowded but not overly so. Would definitely go again if back in the area, recommend it to anyone for a swift bite to eat.

An amazingly good meal . Everything just beautiful . Go , go , go ! Unfortunately , we couldn't stay as the bedrooms were fully booked , but I hope we can come back another time . We loved the meal , the wine pairing and the staff . One of the best meals we have had.

The reason why we came to Helmsley was because we had eaten at the Rattle Owl in York when Tom Heywood was the head chef there. We had the misfortune of returning there after he had left and it was not even close to the original experience. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and the night previously we had the taster menu at the Star Inn at Harome. We chose the wine pairing with some trepidation as we have often experienced unfortunate pairings which Sommeliers’ have tried to convince us are a match with some course or other and yet seemed totally arbitrary. I am delighted to report that for the first time in my experience of high end eateries I could actually ‘taste’ the connection between each of the courses and the accompanying drink. I say ‘drink’ because it wasn’t always conventional wine in fact we had a coffee/chocolatey stout accompanying the bread course (both delicious) , an local Solaris sparkling white wine from Dunesforde Vineyard, Yorkshire with the trout (I didn’t believe it was possible but a fantastic wine) and an orange wine from the US with the scallop dish perfectly complementing the food. If I haven’t gone on about the food it’s only because I was expecting it to be world class and it was. Every course perfectly presented and singing with flavour. The was a mushroom mousse course on the menu and coincidently also on the menu at the Star Inn - there was no comparison. The Pignut mousse melted in the mouth as it should sadly the Star Inn’s version was stodgy and forgettable. Every course was light, succulent and tasty. Service was very attentive without being overbearing and Lauissa explained the ethos and the journey for her and Tom. In short unbeatable.

Outstanding !!!! A place not to be missed we had an amazing breakfast .. Pancakes , Full English and poached eggs on toast .. service was fantastic the waitress couldn’t have been better! Thank you so much we will be back !!

Amazing evening at Angel’s share, such a lovely atmosphere. The cocktails were incredible and Salv was an amazing host, so welcoming and lovely to chat to. Such a gem, would highly recommend.

We love Helmsley and fancied afternoon tea. Having tried to book at a couple of local places, we popped into Number 12 as we walked from the car park. I had afternoon tea, my husband had a farmhouse platter. Absolutely delicious, great value and huge portions. The ham was top quality, sausage rolls were delicious and I had the best treacle tart ever as part of the afternoon tea. Do go and eat there, you will not be disappointed!

This Restaurant has Gourmet Food which very rich and delicious we were very welcomed and the Staff very friendly and helpful and polite there was such a selection of food on the Menu amazing first Class , it is very expensive but you pay for what you get and on a one occasion you got to go its a must when your on Holiday or day out or visiting this is the place to go .

On a busy Saturday night, the service was slow, we started with sourdough and labneh & dukkha, then shared their rarebit on a flatbread with a nice sauce, that was the highlight. I followed with cod and monkfish with mussels, the fish was good but the mussels with it were cold. My wife chose lamb rump which was also cold and was undercooked. We cancelled a second booking.

A big thankyou for responding to my letter. Was at Helmsley and received breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Delicious and gentlemen very polite. Keep the good work up. Also cheese scones lovely.

Always a great experience, friendly staff great food

I visited with a friend for Sunday lunch. They managed to fit us in despite being very busy. Excellent and friendly service. The food was exquisite. Good portion size and delicious.

Stayed a couple of nights as B&B guests. Lovely big room and large ensuite bathroom with both a roll top bath and 'wet room' shower. Huge comfortable bed. Very enjoyable stay - the couple who own it went above and beyond in making it a delightful place to stay. Breakfast is in the cafe - they don't do fried 'English breakfast' but you choose what you want from the cafe menu. Good coffee - was needed after a heavy night out in Helmsley.

We went for dinner for my birthday. The food and service was impeccable. A birthday card was signed by the manager, Liam, which was a lovely touch and made me feel very welcomed. Yes it is pricy, but for a special treat it was worth it. Everything, even from the bread rolls and butter to start were done to perfection. We had the lobster as a starter, the flavours were wonderful with the butternut squash. For our main I had the duck breast and my partner had the chicken. Again, the favours were perfect and cooked to perfection. My only feedback was the small portion, especially the chicken breast. As beautiful as it was, it could have done with some vegetables to make it a main dish, especially as my partner likes a hearty meal. We did order some chips on the side. The French fries were also perfect. To finish, I had the tiramisu, which was just gorgeous. My partner had the chocolate soufflé which he really enjoyed. The staff and serve was really professional, but also warm and welcoming. The venue overall was stunning. Thank you for making my birthday a special occasion. We will definitely be back again.

My wife, son and I stopped by for a coffee and a scone. The scones were top drawer. The staff were very polite, service was good.

Arrived at 11.45 for a cuppa and a scone and took my place to order 2nd in the queue. There was a lady before me who had been waiting some considerable time. She asked me if she was invisible as not one member of staff had acknowledged her even though a lady was making drinks and clearly saw us waiting. Finally, after a further 20 mins our orders were taken by a surly young girl who's attitude I found very rude. So when my scones were thrust at me on 2 plates...no tray... I asked about my hot drinks, I was informed very rudely that they would be put on a table for me to collect. I asked about a tray but just got a withering look! So, my review is not based on the venue or the food which we ok I suppose but on the attitude of the staff. From being ignored to being treated very rudely. So this review is constructive criticism to please train your staff to be more customer friendly!
