The best restaurants serving British food in Helmsley Ryedale Yorkshire and The Humber

An amazingly good meal . Everything just beautiful . Go , go , go ! Unfortunately , we couldn't stay as the bedrooms were fully booked , but I hope we can come back another time . We loved the meal , the wine pairing and the staff . One of the best meals we have had.

Ok, so, It's been a while since I have had felt the need to write a review. However, PIGNUT! You forced my hand, my darlings!!! A friend and myself came here in November 2024, for dinner. We were blown away. The courses are so perfectly chosen, wastage - although doesn't sound too appealing, when you hear that it is called so because it is made from the remnants of left overs so that the restaurant is as sustainable as possible. It draws you in! Story telling, and the wine is almost as good as the food! TRIUMPH!

If you want fast food don’t go here. If you want good food served by friendly staff this is the place for you. The food was excellent and the staff were courteous and very friendly and welcoming I can recommend this place.

Brilliant little cafe, we stumbled across this little gem while looking for some breakfast and we was amazed at both the price and the quality of food. It was my first visit and I was not disappointed. I loved all the restaurants, cafes and shops. It was market day while we were there but as it had snowed, only a few stalls came. We certainly got friendly service from the stall holders though. I shall go back for another visit soon, but book everything in advance, especially the restaurants, which get very busy.

Amazing cakes & scones, & the coffee is great! Well worth a visit Can not recommend enough, they definitely went out of their way to help when we had an issue with our accommodation - thank you so much Will definitely visit again when back up in Yorkshire

We stopped off for an early dinner whilst staying nearby. We had two unruly springer spaniels in tow and were directed towards the dog friendly dining area. Prior to our booking time, we'd had a drink in the wonderfully atmospheric bar area, which made us feel as though we'd stepped back in time in a reassuring and cosy way. The barman appeared with a water bowl and treats completed unprompted, which our dogs loved. The menu... Oh my goodness! The choices were exceptional and it was such a challenge to make a choice! The staff were incredibly patient with us and also completely accommodating to our dogs. I can't fault the food either. We had the panko chicken and scotch egg starter which were both divine. I had the sirloin steak, medium rare and he had the beef shin pie.... Our plates were completely clean by the end of our dinner. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely sensational! We travel a lot and enjoy experiencing a variety of hospitality. The Feathers is a place we've already agreed we'll visit regularly after such a wonderful all round experience. We hope they'll take two dogs in for an overnight experience and we'd love to spend the night next time we visit!

Took our grandson for lunch and after waiting ages for food it was cold and must have been the WORST FISH AND CHIPS we have ever had. Overcooked hard batter and where was the fish? Must have had about 2 mouthfuls of over cooked (if that) of the fish. My grandson chose off the childrens menu which was on the board outside the cafe door priced at £4.50 of which I was charged by 2 young ladies £6.50 for a hot plate (as it was put on the till) Over charged and terrible service and food. To say the least we will not return again.

Out for anniversary dinner, Bar service was good, resturant service fair, food poor. Boiled potatoes only warm More Broccoli stalks than the edible part Muscle sauce served with the fish, may as-well have been cream without being cooked Will not be returning

We have visited this cafe before but just for a drink inside the modern cafe area. This time the extended family (8) decided on food as well. Sitting outside in a shaded area everyone enjoyed their food choices, with the Monk's Pottage being a bit of a highlight! If you are visiting the Abbey, be sure to stop and refresh in the cafe.

A warm and comfortable place to stay. The staff and locals made us feel really welcomed. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish, and were sorry to say goodbye. The food was delicious and the service was great. We highly recommend The Royal Oak as a wonderful place for couples, families, and four legged friends. Centrally located with easy access to the natural beauty of North Yorkshire.

Very disappointing - this is my second visit in a few months and on both occasions I have been served by staff who looked like they would rather be anywhere else! They weren’t rude but it wasn’t exactly a friendly welcome. In their defence I did notice that the member of staff on the till was in her own and the chef himself was bringing the food out so maybe they were understaffed and two people was certainly not enough to run the cafe which was full. The coffee as usual was lovely.
