Second stay here. Lovely place. Very good quality room at a very good price. Staff obviously busy, it being Christmas period, but helpful. Room large and warm. Clean and tidy. Great looking location, outside courtyard is soooo Dickensian! Very photogenic. If you're looking for something different and quaint this is the place. Was easy to get to Yorkshire Wildlife park from there, also not far to York city, Sheffield centre etc. Well worth it.

The first night, the service was excellent as was the food. We went back for the second night, service was appalling, waitress had attitude, minted lamb pie - served with cold beef gravy, I had to request mint sauce which came in a hospital paper pot, I then had to ask for a teaspoon for it, and when she brought it she said is there ANYTHING - sigh - else you need. Basic food - cheap - you get what you pay for!

Lovely friendly cafe, we visit often for lunch. This time i chose a tiffin cake which we could not bite. I did complain and asked a member of staff to cut it. We waited 10mins and although my husband managed to chew around it from the outside , my teeth couldnt take the challenge. I complained again but they were not interested. We went away unhappy. If we had been offered a different cake in exchange we would have been happy. We didnt want our money refunded. Customer service sadly lacking on this occasion. Incidentally my friend a weekly visitor told me she broke her tooth on the tiffin. Another friend takes it home to melt , rather spoils the idea of going out for coffee and cake. Having said all this on the many occasions that we have called weve been happy.

We visit the White Bear on regular occasions and we are never disappointed. The very friendly staff and warmth of the pub is so inviting. The food is outstanding and also it’s lovely to just call in for a drink too. Especially on those sunny days when sitting out in the lovely beer garden really helps you to relax and switch off. If you have dogs and whilst out on a walk you fancy a quick pit stop drink, then call in, they are dog friendly and even have a jar of treats for the dogs and of course plenty of water for them to drink too!! If you are ever looking for good quality food and a friendly atmosphere, then look no further. You won’t be disappointed. Nothing is ever a bother and the owners and staff are happy to help in anyway they can. We will continue to visit and alway recommend The White Bear to people when they are looking for a new place to go for a lovely meal and/or drinks! Don’t ever lose sight of what an amazing job you all do! Thank you and see you all again very soon.

Food was ok, however they didn't deliver my bottle of Pepsi, ordered through food hub, reported it but just got fobbed off. Not sure how they would have refunded me anyway as they only take cash.

Called in a couple of weeks ago and asked a fair haired woman behind the counter for some cheese straws. She said with a sarcastic smirk on her face that there was 3 in a pack for £1.She immediately rudely giggled at anther lady assistant who initially smiled back and then realised that the moment was embarrassing so she carried on wit her work. The fair haired woman serving me still continued to ignorantly smirk at me. To be fair I should have challenged her but it was my day off work . I am an Area Sales Manager for a National Bulilding Merchants and would certainly not tolerate this frivolous behaviour in front of customers. I have been using the Bakery for years and will definetly take my business elsewhere now. The lady in question would never be employed by me with this customer facing value!

Please do not waste your money ! Poor food and that's being polite. Butter chicken was watered down, over powered coconut dribble. The king prawn tandoori was more like the film finding Nemo, the food had definitely gone missing !!
