Great spot in Epworth, right in the center! The accommodations are basic but very nice. Comfy beds and hot showers. Love this place. The staff at the Red Lion in October 2024 were very friendly and made me feel welcome.

3 of us went for a meal on Wednesday. The pub was popular and all of the meals that came out looked delicious. It was steak and curry night but full menu was also available. We all opted for curries and a pudding each which were delicious. Staff all were very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend and will be returning.

I stayed here for one night as I was working in the area. I telephoned the pub, and they had room availability at a fair price for B&B, so I booked. I arrived around 5.30 pm and the pub was busy. I was seen to quite fast and I ordered an evening meal which was tasty. The room had everything I needed, and I slept well. All the staff were friendly and efficient. I will use this pub again should I be working in the area.

Would not stay again. Had stains on the towels and the bed. The room was so cold when we arrived we nearly left the hotel. One small heater in the room was broken. The list went on but you get the gist.

We have Fish & Chips [almost] every Friday when we are in the UK. They are possibly the best you will ever get - even better than in Whitby or Eyemouth. The Red Lion is also very Dog Friendly if you sit in the conservatory. The Fillet Steak's are also nice and very reasonably priced. The staff - Sue, Ellie, Lynn & Alex are all brilliant. We never have to get out of our seats as the service is first class.

Great meal, good service however when I took my 5 year old son to the toilet found a bag of cocaine on the floor. Handed it to the guy behind the bar who in fairness apologised. However ruined our trip.

This is a lovely quiet pub. Clean and dog friendly, even though our puppy was only young nobody minded when he barked a little. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. It felt safe under the new restrictions. Parking at the back, and both child and dog friendly.

Recently stopped here for an evening meal and overnight stay whilst passing through the area. The food was gorgeous and the service fabulous, both in the restaurant on the evening and from the lady serving breakfast. The room for the overnight stay was just OK. Some care needs to be taken with the cleaning, it was not up to scratch. Cobwebs and dust to be easily found and the room smelt fusty (my clothes had this fusty smell imbedded in them by the time I left). Bathroom outdated and didn't even have a bin in there. Windows appeared to be single glazed and you could hear everything from the people out in the court yard. I think some sort of sound proofing is needed in this respect. It is a lovely quaint place and I would happily return to eat there if I am ever in the area. As for staying over, I think I would personally look for somewhere else.

I’ve been to the red lion a few times. One time I stayed in the Wesley suite, I’ve also been on a Sunday for dinner, and just popped by for a drink. It could do with being brought up to date slightly. But it’s good for a quick meal or drink. It has character.

Stayed on a deal it’s just ok. The bed wasn’t the best, the bathroom needs a complete overall there was mould round the edges of the shower base, the riser rail didn’t work so you had to hold the shower head, hot water takes for ever to come through and then it’s only just hot. The toilet had in the past had a leak and it had blue stain all on the pipes. Wouldn’t recommend staying on a Saturday night as the noise from the disco/nightclub is deafening our room I think was above it we also looked over the court yard and you hear all the girls giggling and screaming outside the bedroom window, this was still going on around midnight. If the rooms just had a little bit of money spent on them it could be nice. Breakfast was nice no complaints. Staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. Had lunch in the restaurant no complaints.

Been here many times before with Groupon deals (glass of wine and a steak) usually the lovely gent behind the bar swaps the wine for beer, as we don’t drink wine, this kept us going back, we went last night and took my parents as a Christmas gift to show off this wonderful place to be told by Sue that we were not allowed to swap the drinks, I explained we always are given this option, and not even looking up from her mobile phone screen is a nasty tone she told me she would not do it, I explained how in this industry the customer should always be right as we have always loved going there due to the lovely staff and flexibility, (I’ve worked in catering and I believe you should always bend over backwards for customers as I know the power a negative review can have) she then accused me of blackmail. (I wouldn’t mind but the groupon deal was supposed to be a Tbone and had been changed to a Sirloin so we weren’t the only ones calling swapsies!!??) So we sat and asked the lovely waitress if we could have the wine in the bottle so we could take it away, she said yes the four glasses equate to one bottle and one glass, so we ordered other drinks (to be paid for) and the ‘included’ glass of wine. The waitress then returned and said the manager said you have to have the wine in the glasses as that’s what is stated on the deal!!!?? The ‘main’ manager Sue had poured the glasses of wine out, I assume out of spite, knowing we asked to take the bottle away with us. I was absolutely gob smacked she had done this to paying customers knowing full well we didn’t want the wine. We left as I couldn’t stand to be there, I will never go back there again due to this woman. I honestly don’t think I’ve met someone least suited to this industry. What a nasty lady, ruined my Christmas gift to my parents. We ‘were’ regulars, thank you to Alex and all of the other staff who have always been so sweet and helpful in the past. Let’s hope Sue was having a bad day otherwise she will lose the Red Lion more loyal customers like us.

We stopped in Epworth for some lunch on a Sunday. Lets just say that Epworth is not exactly a thriving, bustling place on a Sunday (probably any day of the week!) and the appearance of the Red Lion echoes that, a tired exterior facing the centre of town. Inside it was more promising and tables of diners encouraged us to stay.

We called here on a visit to historic Epworth visiting various sites of significance Methodist history. John Wesley stayed in this hotel. We wanted a bar meal. We often have a meal at the Red Lion - its good, honest pub food in good portions. We particularly enjoy the calamari starter, and fish and chips is an excellent main course choice. They are happy to make changes to the menu, for example - chips instead of dauphinoise potatoes, or extra veg instead of potatoes. Service is good and the staff are very friendly and obliging. Prices are very good too - well worth a visit!

Groupon deal, bed and breakfast for two for £50. Absolutely no complaints, clean, functional room, friendly staff and decent breakfast. Chose to eat here despite several other choices in Epworth - Prawn starter was delicious, partner's fillet steak was perfect and I had so many mussels for £9.95 that I didn't manage to put a dent in the accompanying bread or chips. Highly recommended for a value break.

Been to the Lion many times, even remember the time it went through a major renovation and the birth of Applejacks. This place is now in desperate need of investment. The bar area looks dirty as do the toilets and the rooms are disgusting, old and tired. Invest money in the Lion and it will transform Epworth and the Market place as it has such a prominent position. It is just tired, dated and needs a good refresh.

We have just returned from an overnight stay at the Red Lion, we arrived at 12.00 to a warm and friendly welcome from the lady at the bar, locals were also very friendly. After a drink we were shown to our rooms which were just round the corner from the pub itself. The rooms had obviously been recently refurbed, they were spotlessly clean, lovely comfy beds and bedding, large modern bathroom. We had a super lunch and a steak meal in the evening which was delicious and very good value, the Red Lion is an old coaching inn with a good atmosphere and friendly staff unfortunately the breakfast did not live up to our meal the night before but overall i would recommend the Red Lion as a great place to stay.

My family & I stumbled across this fabulous find.... Cafe Jazz, located nearby Primark in Scunthorpe town centre. The menu has standard cafe dishes & all made from scratch says Sam, the lovely friendly owner. I opted for ‘full works’ breakfast which was really tasty & included Lincolnshire sausages & a generous serving of black pudding! The breakfast included a coffee & was amazing value for money! Well worth a visit when your planning a shopping trip to the town centre! Thanks Sam & team! And thank you for the COVID safe environment! We appreciated it.

Top marks all round, 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟, 10/10, 👍👍. Usually when I have to work away I end up in a Travelodge or similar hotel chain because it's generally easier for the office to book etc. This time I found myself working at the Port and found this little gem. It must be a reasonable price because there was no grumbling from said office and they even paid for my breakfasts. I received a very pleasant, happy and friendly greeting when I checked in, Stephen (or Steven) is a superb host/landlord. I was shown to my room which was more than adequate, the beds and also the bedding were very comfortable and the bathroom with the great big shower head and hot water was just the ticket after work. True there's not a great deal of local facilities you are basically on a road with a pub and a local corner shop, but the food in the pub is very good, (I can definitely recommend the fish and chips) there's dartboards and a pool table. Breakfasts are spot on very tasty, Bacon, Sausages, scrambled eggs, beans, hash browns, tomato, mushrooms and toast, washed down with a glass of orange juice and a good size pot of tea or coffee. I've stayed on 2 separate occasions and it will be my first choice in the future if I'm working that way again.
