We were looking for a new venue to have Sunday lunch and decided to try the Dog and Gun at Knayton ………we were not disappointed! This village pub has had new owners since August 2024 and we can thoroughly recommend a visit. It is only a short distance off the A19 in the small village of Knayton. On arrival we had a fantastic welcome from the new landlady Paula and we were made to feel very welcome - just like long lost old friends! We had reserved a table and this is must as it gets extremely busy, especially on Sundays. The Sunday lunch menu has a choice of five starters and six main courses and if you are vegan or vegetarian there are some options. The roast dinners are locally sourced grass fed beef, free range pork and free range chicken - it is so rare to find meat/chicken of this quality and this shines through in the dinners. The portions are excellent with crispy proper roast potatoes, large homemade Yorkshire puddings, fluffy mashed potato and seasonal vegetables. Everything tastes homemade, which it is, and the dinners that we had came piping hot. We could not fault anything, so well done to the chef Lucy and her team. It was the best Sunday lunch that we have had in a long while and we have had a few! The service was excellent and Steven who served us was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. It was hard to believe that the new owners, who have never had any experience in the hospitality industry, had only been in for a few weeks so huge congratulations to them and I am sure that they will be hugely successful in their new venture. We were so impressed with this village pub that we have booked to go again. We would highly recommend this village pub, but be sure to book first to be sure of getting a table.

Whenever you go this place is fabulous, but had the great pleasure of going for Sunday lunch. This was outstanding and most definitely the best Sunday lunch in the whole of North Yorkshire. Also went in last night for a sneaky glass of red!! And was ask to taste test some small desserts. These were a traditional Italian cannoli with chocolate and another with orange. Both were delicious, but the orange one tasted amazing. Can’t wait got these to become a regular thing. If you ever find yourself in Stokesley at any time this is a must place to eat and drink in.

Amazing food served by friendly staff. A limited but varied menu that would cover most tastes. We had an open steak sandwich and honey chicken ciabata sandwich, both served with fries. A++

I’d seen the Poorhouse on Tripadvisor when I was looking for food in the local area. What an absolutely fab place. We were lucky enough to be about Thurs & Fri night and so had one of the pizzas (well in fact, ordered one to take home too). We did half & half on both pizzas and I have to say, they are the nicest tasting we’ve had for a long time. The place is really dog friendly too. Please go if you’re in the area, the staff & food were so lovely I can’t wait to go back.

Attended the restaurant for our wedding anniversary, the decor is nice and the service is friendly. Popadoms for starter was nice, then we ordered starters & main courses. The portion sizes are small and the prices are quite high. My main course prawn curry only had 5 medium sized prawns in it with minimal amount of sauce. The dishes had nice flavours but expensive for the size of the portions. We paid £76 for two starters, two mains with one rice & one naan bread & two small drinks.

Thought we would give the local Dough & Deli a try, as had good reviews on social media. We ordered two Pizzas for collection that evening, total cost £17.20 which I felt reasonable. We collected at the allotted time and brought them home. We had a Meat Feast and a Sausage and Sweet Chilli toppings. Both tasted delicious, my only negative comment is that both should have been cooked a little longer. Both bases were, we felt undercooked, very doughy and chewy would have benefited from a little longer in the over to crisp and colour them up. Would we order again most certainly and probably just ask if the bases could be given a little longer in the oven.

We have been for cocktails after film matinees at the nearby Ritz cinema. The longest cocktail menu I have ever seen and many are unknown to us but equally delicious. Have eaten dinner once and that was good as there are choices to suit everyone. Staff are also lovely. We will continue to go.
