The best restaurants in West Midlands

Can’t recommend The Old Gate enough for food or drinks. Definitely book ahead if you are wanting food. You will receive a warm welcome and it’s open all day everyday for food. You won’t be disappointed at all and you can take dogs into the main bar area, but there is covered outdoor seating during winter and autumn. When the tipi cover is taken off in spring it’s a lovely sunny spot.

Great real "local" pub... Great Guinness, great service and very friendly locals!

I had not been to my regular Indian/Bangladeshi for a long time due to Covid. I tried their take away tonight. Very nice prawn puri starter and lamb tikka main + excellent sag aloo. Old reliable.

Bought the Naga Donner meal, absolutely delicious! the flavour, portion size, price point was all brilliant. Great little place, will be back to try other items.

We stayed at the hotel and decided to give the restaurant a go. The food was actually tasty - we had pea veloute and asparagus starters and we both went for steak. There were also some lovely amuse bouches. However, the meal was spoiled by the length of time everything took, and the inexperienced serving staff. It took 15 minutes to take our drink order and another 20 to deliver it. 2 courses (and a couple of amuse bouches) took 2 hours. The wait for the main course just went on and on, and when it arrived it arrived in trickles. First we got the steak on its own. 5 minutes later the chips arrived, and sometime after that the (cold but tasty) mashed potato. By 10pm, we were so tired we decided to forgo dessert. The other thing that was irritating was the menu, which was completely lacking in detail (example: "Cod: curry, sourdough"). Trying to be clever? The problem was, when we asked the servers what exactly that was, we got the answer "fish with curry sauce with pieces of bread in it". Not exactly inspiring... Perhaps it was croutons? We'll never know! When asked what one of the amuse bouches was we were told it was "sweet potato and mustard". They need to either rewrite the menu or actually train their staff so they understand what they're serving. Shame, as the food was nice but we definitely won't be back. The prices charged are for fine dining but it was all a bit too amateur to justify that.

Stopped by yesterday for lunch with the family and as always a great experience. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was prompt to arrive despite being busy and was very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend

We had our wedding reception here 9 years ago and when we were gifted a voucher as a present we decided to use it for afternoon tea close to our anniversary. It was perfect and brought back some amazing memories. Beautiful location and building. The staff are fantastic and the food is delicious. Great experience.

Been using this place for years, tried others, but always ended up coming back. Recently had a takeaway under the new management and was the best yet in my opinion. Always tend to have the same dishes, really like the gung po beef. I'm pretty sure the salt and chili wings recipe has changed, very tasty with more spice. Will continue to use this place.

By far the best Indian food we’ve ever had. The food was impeccable and they were very accommodating with our pram and children.

Great traditional cafe, breakfast was good value, tasted lush, brilliant service and had a bit of cheeky banter with lady's working there, 100% recommend and will be back

Este lugar ha estado cerrado desde hace unos años debido a que el propietario lamentablemente falleció inesperadamente. Era una dama encantadora y en el poco tiempo que fue dueña del lugar, lo transformó.

Fantastic little pub. The owners are lovely and it felt like we had known them for years and the atmosphere here second to none. Will definitely be going back. Love the fact it has a Armed Forces atmosphere about it.
