I have been curious about this café as it serves organic coffee so I went for breakfast. The staff are very welcoming and friendly so this is great, but he coffee wasn´t very good. I ordered a flat white and it didn´t have the intensity of a normal flat white, it was very bland, it tasted more like milk with a bit of coffee. I also ordered an omellette and I wasn´t impressed about it. The place it is lovely but it needs a bit more effort in the food. I wouldn´t come back.

We were welcomed on arrival, and seated at a table in the middle of the venue. We studied the extensive menu and selected two Turkish themed dishes; both were well-presented and delicious. We selected a dessert from the large selection of cakes on display. We missed a wall poster outlining the cold soft drinks that were available, so drank water. Overall a most enjoyable experience, and the Viola Bistro is highly recommended.

We hadn’t visited here before when we called in for a coffee on a cold January morning. We expected it to be a café but we’re surprised to find that there was a bistro menu with wine etc. It was well furnished / decorated and was larger than it looked from the roadside. We enjoyed two flat whites that were good quality but quite expensive at £2.95 each. The bistro menu looks quite interesting and reasonably priced, we may try again for lunch.

We had a small afternoon tea party for a family birthday and were looked after brilliantly. We discussed arrangements with the owner / manager beforehand and everything happened just as we wanted - a warm welcome, tea served on nice china, coffee drinkers very happy too, excellent sandwiches, sweet and savoury bites and a good range of cakes. Run by a Turkish family who are warm and hospitable, Viola offers the perfect antidote to the ‘chain’ experience. Thoroughly recommended.

OK, only there for a quick bite to eat and a couple of coffees for lunch. Food wise we went with paninis - ham and cheese for me and halloumi for the wife, both served with salad, one with crisps and one with chips. Very good! Service was very good as was the ambiance. We pass through Knowle often and this will not be the last time we drop in. The young girl, by the way, behind the counter who took our order and served us deserves a special mention and is one of the reasons we will be back.

Cannot comprehend previous negative review. Have been customer at Viola for many years after recommendation. The family who own and staff are passionate about what they do.They have kept it open, dedicated to locals, throughout pandemic, for takeaway meals and coffee etc. I have had coffee throughout but had first dinner last night since March 2020,due to sheltering.Measures in place superior to other retail outlets and certainly, neighbouring establishments. Atmosphere safe and relaxing and service from Dilara immaculate, as ever, low key and first rate. If your idea of a good night out is,"Ready to order guys "and, everything alright for you guys"?,probably best to go to a chain/franchise If you seek indivuality, brave and personal food and service, Solihull is so lucky to have Viola. So go and show your support!

I have visited this restaurant twice and really want to enjoy it because it’s local and the food is nice but on both occasions the customer service is sadly lacking. The waitress is surly and borderline rude, during this difficult time for local businesses you would think that they would be happy for customers but today she made us feel that we were an inconvenience. Sorry won’t be back no third time lucky for me

Very good set menu including essentially all the less complicated stuff from the a la carte, and a good range of starters, prosecco when you arrive and a sorbet between starter and main, with baklava to finish. All very tasty and incredibly good value for 2 people. They do a wine tasting with a small range of lebanese, italian and turkish wines, for a very reasonable price, which I enjoyed. All compliant with covid restrictions. We will be back!

Got brought a gift voucher for Xmas to use at this restaurant. Well it was amazing - we went for the set menu 49 pound for two and that was for 3 courses plus sorbet and a glass of Prosecco. Every course was simply perfect - I went for the camabert to start followed by slow pork belly. It was all cooked to perfection and the taste of the accompanying vegetables was so so good. My husband had the pork belly bites to start followed by Moroccan chicken and again he loved it. The ambience in the restaurant is lovely - very much like a bistro and very intimate. The waitress was lovely - we were never hurried or left too long - it was perfect. Highly recommend - we will definitely go back soon

I really wanted to like this place and, as other reviewers have noted, initially liked the fact it was an independent and not part of a chain. We booked a £49.00 four course meal for two on Groupon and, first disappointment, was being shown the menu where the rack rate for the four course set menu was.....£49.00 and not the £89.00 shown on Groupon!! Very naughty.I ordered the anitpasto and, as another reviewer has commented, expected a selection of cold cuts and cheese but instead got two slices of chiabbata, with some pesto from a jar spread on, topped with two wan slices of cheese, a couple of olives and two pieces of sun dried tomatoes.Main course was rustic meatballs which were ok, but pretty bland. There was no choice of desert - baklava or baklava - so we chose the baklava, which came with a dollop of squirty cream from a can.All in all, there are way better value offers on Groupon so DO NOT buy this as a Groupon voucher. If you are happy to shell out your own money and want to support an independent business then fine, but don't explain anything other than average food in a reasonably ambient atmosphere.Oh, that is apart from dreadful musical soundtrack with bizarre jazz renderings of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall and Radiohead's Creep!

Sometimes we have a "picture" of a menu item in our minds from past experience which isn't met in reality. I think of antipasti as a selection of cold cuts and cheeses with some vegetable garnish. The antipasti here was a slice of cheese and some olives sitting on a ciabatta bun, with some garnishes. Nice, perhaps, but not what I was looking forward to.My idea of Moroccan Chicken is that the chicken is served with savoury rice in plenty of rich sauce, but it was actually served with both cubed fried potatoes and rice with only a little topping of sauce, which made the dish too dry for me, and I don't normally like two staple carbs on the dame plate. Rice alone (which was very nice) would have suited me better.Apparently the coconut prawns met expectations though, and the Gamberoni al Forno was aso good. Sorry - just my own expectations weren't met.

This small place is very unassuming amongst a row of shops on the High Street and was recommend by friends and although the food was hot, service ok and the staff friendly, the chairs were uncomfortable to sit on after a while and as there were a few of us we were seated in the window area which I found disconcerting. There is an attempt to replicate an Italian Bistro but there was no atmosphere of the Mediterranean. The menu is extensive rather than specific and the wine we found expensive by the glass.

There was however about six different choices for starters and mains. Two choices of sorbet, lemon or orange. We both had calamari to start and wasn't disappointed, it was lovely. Had the set 4 course menu, I had chicken wings to start 6 x succulent wings in a spicy sauce with dips, my wife had baked Camembert - a huge portion enough for 2! Followed by some delicious lemon sorbet served in a lemon. We both then had Turkish chicken skewers, lovely food, only criticism is there was far too much food, 2 large skewers, a bowl of chips, bread, and a portion of rice and also onion rings,I hate leaving food but there was far too much for either of us. The large portion also took the emphasis away from the star of the plate the delicious chicken. I think it would be a far better option to still serve with traditional bread but then offer a choice or rice or chips, not even the hungriest person could eat all those carbs! We ended up taking our dessert home. The lady waitress I don’t know her name, was polite, attentive, knowledgeable and not over bearing. A credit to the restaurant. Even when 2 older gentlemen came in just for a coffee they were treated exactly the same as those spending a lot of money, something nice to see. We only stopped for a quick coffee while passing through Knowle, but am SO glad that we chose Viola. The service was delightful and so knowledgeable - as an Australian I hadn't come across many of the names of the coffees on the menu - and every question was politely answered. We chose espresso con panna- a single shot with whipped cream on top - and it was the perfect choice for a cool, rainy August morning. Beautifully decorated cafe, lovely warm atmosphere and an impressive lunch and dinner menu which will draw us back to the Bistro whenever we are in the area. Very impressed and Highly Recommended. Oh, by the way, the prices are very reasonable in comparison with the huge franchises, and the owners donate a percentage of their takings to the MS Society which gets a huge tick in my book. Well done!

Whilst visiting our daughter we popped in to Viola thinking it was just a little cafe. Buy were we wrong, stayed for lunch. Great food really friendly staff. Would recommend. Only downside is its size, only 7/8 tables. But then that is part of its charm.

Shhh!! .... don't tell anyone but Bistro Viola is a real treasure of an eatery. The food is exquisite, the menu extensive and varied Mediterranean cuisine, the staff friendly, the atmosphere relaxed. I can't wait to go again!!

I go here frequently when meeting a friend for a coffee. The staff is friendly and I have never felt rushed to leave - it is perfectly acceptable to sit and chat or read at your leisure, and it is great to have independent coffee shops as an alternative to the juggernaut that is Costa. The coffee is good, and a regular size coffee here is larger than many other places, making it good value for money. Haven't eaten here, but the choice of cakes is impressive, and the menu looks tempting.

Super little bistro on the High Street in Knowle. Food is Mediterranean style with Turkish/French accent. I have been there several times and have always enjoyed my visit. Excellent choice on the menu from light bites to full on meals. Excellent service and very reasonable prices. If it's sunny you can also sit outside. You can get evening meals Thursday to Saturday.

We went here for a family gathering. The food was ordered before hand earlier in the day. I had the chicken wings for starter, there were nice, the bbq sauce which came with it was nice too. For the main I had the beef lasagna, this was quite nice it could have been better, it came with garlic bread. The pudding of Baklava was really really nice and would recommend this. There is only one toilet which is shared so might have to wait if someone else is using it. Overall the food was nice, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would say visit this place.

When I read the menu on line for this restaurant I was quite excited as it was a bit different. However I was rather disappointed with the meal. There were three of us and we had two mixed starters which were rather strange (charred pickled onions??) and lacked real flavour. The mains were huge.....I do like my food but even I thought the portions were massive. Also there was so many elements on the plate that the main elements got rather lost. I had the lamb shank which was a good dish but it sat on flat bread and there were potato cubes and stuffed potato skins....carb overload.Less is more......it is not often I say that about a meal. The staff were lovely and the service was prompt.

Lovely little family coffee shop that also does meals. I prefer to go for a snack than a meal as I think cakes and snacks are best in this place. Dogs are welcome too

We visited Friday night after buying some vouchers from Groupon. We had looked on their website beforehand and the food choices and pictures of food looked amazing. On arrival we were told there was no baklava which was part of the set deal. We were told it was because we hadn't told them we had the Groupon deal when we booked (which we did). The deal was advertised on a board outside the restaurant so it would've made no difference. We were given a glass of 'prosecco' each as part of the deal and when we asked to get another bottle we were told it wasn't possible as it wasn't on the menu. We were sat just above the bar area and soon noticed the reason we couldn't buy anymore was because it was actually just bottles of cava from the supermarket. For starters I had coconut prawns which was nice, but tasted nothing of coconut and had some random almonds just chucked on the plate. For main I had paella which I can only describe as a bowl of savoury packet rice with a few mussels and bits of chorizo in it and none of the other ingredients listed. (Alaskan pollock, squid, prawns)As a replacement for the lack of baklava we were given a millionaire shortbread each in a packet, no other alternatives given. Shortly after the tablecloths were being folded up which felt like a hint we should get moving. Bistro Viola has the potential to be a lovely little restaurant but unfortunately it is lacking quality in the food and has a rushed impersonal service.

Great location with a lovely cosy interior pleasant service but unfortunately that is it... the food was terrible I'm sure the majority of it was from Iceland or Costco... my husband and I shared calamari and chicken wings, fairly basic but if cooked right can be delicious... both starters were terrible... we shared a main meal of lamb kofta... they were only ok... not enough flavour with spice and too oily... I did question our waitress if they were made on the premises, she assured me that they were... we than shared a key lime pie which was yummy but sadly confirmed by our waitress that it was made from outside resources... the wine I have to say was excellent we both really enjoyed the selection... I absolutely hate being negative towards Viola as I do believe it could be fantastic but it needs to be unique... choose a smaller menu with home made food... with the right chef Viola will stand out from the crowd... I also suggest a little back ground music would be nice.

I had a meal for 2 using a Groupon voucher, and found the bistro absolutely delightful. The staff were welcoming and there is a good range of food with something for all tastes & appetites. It was a horrible cold evening outside but it was very easy to soon forget the weather whilst sitting in the cosy ambient (and very clean) surroundings. I would say that it's a good venue for couples, quite intimate, but also a nice relaxed location for a mom & daughter special occasion meal. There was a good range of wines at reasonable prices too.

Well where do i start, we visited here as a family of 5 for Sunday lunch 30th June, i do not like exessive amounts of fat on my meat so enquired about the pork dinner, credit to the waitress who asked the chef who said it would be quite fatty and he wouldnt be prepared to cut any excess off which was fair, i asked about the beef dinner and was told this would be much better as regards fat content (at £22 you would like to think so), it came and to my dissapointment it was at least a third fat content, this was cut off by myself and shown to the waitress who said she would speak to "chef about it", at the end of our meal she returned for the bill with no comment from the chef or any form of apology from the staff after i told her it was probably the worst beef id ever had before, quite shocking customer care and service!. On a seperate note, my sister had the fish and chips and quite frankly the chips were burnt and the peas like bullets. We are a mature group who never complain, but at £150 for what we had was totally unacceptable, we shall not return here, youve been warned................
