Had lunch here, the food was very good. My wife's fish was perfectly cooked and my venison, with lentils, was equally as good. Served with complimentary bread with olive oil. Excellent selection of wines by the glass. The place is very traditional, so much the better, and the staff friendly and efficient. We will be back.

My husband and i went to the Beckford Arms yesterday for a late lunch . We got there at 5 mins to 3 and the kitchen closed at 3pm .. When we asked if it was too late to get lunch ( we expected to be told the kitchen had closed ) we were pleasantly surprised when the we were told by a very cheerful member of staff that it would be no problem at all and we were shown straight to a table . The staff were so friendly and cheery and the food was amazing .. The pub has such a lovely atmosphere made even better by the friendly staff .. Full marks all round... such a joy to find a place like this we will definately go back ....

Visited again this week and enjoyed a great evening of excellent hospitality. One of the party has an intolerance and the menu had been marked up on arrival to highlight dishes to avoid - thank you. We all really enjoyed every dish and dessert ordered, drinks were promptly refreshed and service was perfect.

Is this place a real restaurant or does it just identify as a restaurant? It has a sign at the front advertising it's a restaurant and it also had a sign on the front door advertising that it was open. However when my partner and I rocked up at 1420 on Friday 6 September the staff seemed unaware of what they sold or even if they were open. The blackboard behind the counter advertised some breakfast items that finished at 1100 (why??) and under 'sandwiches' there was just one on the 'list', an egg sandwich; when I asked a member of staff if there were any other sandwiches available she had to ask a colleague who said there were no others. I asked for two egg sandwiches but was then told there were none available. When I asked if they had any hot food available I was told 'no' and when I asked if they had any other food available the young lady pointed to three dry-looking slices of cake on open display on the counter. I asked if they were open for trade, which presumably they were given the time, the notice on the door and the presence of other customers sat at tables; the staff member replied "I'm not sure". I do my best to support independent food businesses but when this one closes for good, no doubt like so many of its past contemporaries it will blame others, probably the 'big boys', those who do what they say on the tin and who offer consistent service in accordance with their advertised hours. We went elsewhere and will not stop here again.

Stayed here for two nights Good things first. Host was welcoming, and room was reasonably clean, bar the smoke alarm hanging loose out of the ceiling and the wedged fire door to the rooms. Bad points. Massive red flag on cleanliness in the food area, mouldy toast left and general grime. Path to the rooms littered with goose poop, some sort of unit abandoned near path covered in grime and grease. Would not recommend this place. Food & drinks We were booked for breakfast after the first night but on being seated we realised that the butter pats in a cardboard box had been left out on the floor behind the counter not stored as required. Staff member tried to dispute it, but we had seen that the butter pats he put out came from this box were obviously liquid inside, not cold as normally would be expected We also quickly spotted the disgusting state of the toaster unit, with a piece of mouldy toast left in the collection box at the bottom. We quickly decided not to stay for food and made our excuses. My husband went behind the counter to alert the staff member that we did not want to eat there and in leaving to find a McDonald's in Salisbury he commented that the kitchen area was "chaotic and not very good"

We had a wonderful stay at The Bird & Carter. This B&B is truly wonderful. We were looking for a nice peaceful stay away from London and that’s exactly what we got. We were greeted with fresh flapjack and milk in a thermos. Plus coffee bags and plenty of tea and fresh water which is just what you need after a long drive. The room was light and definitely big enough for a couple. The bathroom was clean and tidy with fresh clean fluffy towels big enough to wrap round you. The bed was super comfy. Availability of tv channels, Netflix etc was great. Not that we were going to spend a lot of time in the room but it’s nice for the option. A couple of walking books were available for us to look at which is great when you don’t know the area. Also the website is great for local things to go and where to eat. Our surroundings were beautiful and peaceful. A lovely couple of chairs outside our room and some benches down by the stream. Breakfast was excellent. You can have granola and also a full English, small English or veggie breakfast. We opted for the full and it was super fresh and tasty. A wide range of coffee and tea is available with alternative milk options. Great for me as I love an oat milk latte. The choice of toast between sourdough and granary as well is great. Plus fresh orange juice. Perfect. The breakfast area is quaint and cosy and Annie was the perfect host throughout our stay. Bird and Carter also have a lovely farm shop which is about a 20 min drive from their b&b. We grabbed some items to take back home with us. The quiche was delicious. We opted for a slice of the salmon and also bacon and spinach. Plus an array of salad bits including potato salad, slaw and green. Plus we couldn’t resist a sausage roll. Everything was fresh and delicious. The quiche especially was so creamy. It melted in your mouth. If we lived closed I’d be there all the time. The cafe looks lovely and there’s an abundance of other food to buy such as cheeses, wine and beer, crisps, oils, crackers and pasta. Plus much much more. Definitely worth a visit. While we were staying at the b&b we explored the surrounding area. Including 2 pubs which are about a 30-40 min walk away. We also ventured to Durdle Door which is just over an hour away if you’re looking for a seaside visit. We would definitely stay again. Thanks Annie

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. Very attentive staff, good location and great pub with open fires and well spaced apart tables. Superb food - very generous portions and well priced.
