The Penruddocke Arms in Wiltshire

Stayed here for two nights Good things first. Host was welcoming, and room was reasonably clean, bar the smoke alarm hanging loose out of the ceiling and the wedged fire door to the rooms. Bad points. Massive red flag on cleanliness in the food area, mouldy toast left and general grime. Path to the rooms littered with goose poop, some sort of unit abandoned near path covered in grime and grease. Would not recommend this place. Food & drinks We were booked for breakfast after the first night but on being seated we realised that the butter pats in a cardboard box had been left out on the floor behind the counter not stored as required. Staff member tried to dispute it, but we had seen that the butter pats he put out came from this box were obviously liquid inside, not cold as normally would be expected We also quickly spotted the disgusting state of the toaster unit, with a piece of mouldy toast left in the collection box at the bottom. We quickly decided not to stay for food and made our excuses. My husband went behind the counter to alert the staff member that we did not want to eat there and in leaving to find a McDonald's in Salisbury he commented that the kitchen area was "chaotic and not very good"

It’s worse than one star but we can’t give it none. Had booked to stay but thankfully managed to book the Travelodge for down the road instead although won’t get the money back for it. It’s dirty, smelly, and quite terrifying…like in a horror movie where the car breaks down and you have to stay in the run down motel. THE most run down place I’ve ever been. I didn’t stay long enough to work out what the stains on the walls and carpet were. There was however one towel between 4 of us provided!! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Great evening and meal at this nice pub restaurant in Dinton. Our family group including 4 kids 8-15 years booked dinner here on a Saturday night. Staff were really lovely and helpful and menu was good with a variety of dishes. We had pizza, burgers, nachos, steak and kidney pudding and various sides. All came nicely presented and were delicious. It’s a quiet part of the country but was a great find, even managed to watch the football on their tv in the bar. Would do back as looks like a nice big beer garden too!

This is the most run down DISCUSTING pub I have EVER been too I recommend you stay well away from this place. We booked for a nights stay and had to drive home it was SO AWFUL. Unclean and not fit to be a hotel or a pub.

Having booked a table for 10 people, the experience has not been great, the veg was cold, there were no roast potatoes and no cutlery, sadly might not now return

My friends and I stayed for 2 nights over Easter 2024 and had a lovely time at The Penruddocke Arms. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless, and it was very quiet, warm and comfortable at nighttime. The food was delicious, especially Sunday lunch, the staff were friendly and the proprietor was exceptionally hospitable and hardworking.

A little gem. What an amazing pub. The building has so much character and is charming. A must if you are looking for somewhere to eat. We had the black rock grill. This dining experience was awesome. The steak and lamb were top quality. We had chips, onion rings and salad with our grill. 10/10. The atmosphere was so friendly and welcoming and our dog was allowed in. There are rooms, on this occasion we didn’t stay but will definitely go back for a weekend break.

Just returned home from a weekend staying at the Penruddocke Arms. We received a lovely warm welcome from Chelsea. The food was absolutely amazing, particularly the black rock steak and the carvery on Sunday. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very large with both a walk in shower and a bath. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and made us a lovely breakfast. The cost of the room and the food was very reasonable. Will definitely be returning.

Truly a diamond in the rough. The other pub in Dinton was fully booked, so on the recommendation of a friend to try the Penruddocke, we did. Oh my, how the exterior and interior belie the fun we had. The food is wonderful and all home made. For a delicious and quirky visit to a pub, I thoroughly recommend.

£100 per night excluding breakfast, is quite a premium price-range and certainly it’s the average in the area. However, it’s not at the premium end of the scale. Double glazing would be a bonus as it’s situated 75m from a fast train line and the road is directly under the window! Very noisy in room 2. I realise that it’s recently been taken over, but it does need some re-furbishment. Bed was quite comfortable and the linen was clean, but no room service between nights to re-stock and clean, the gardens were in a terrible state, with dog poo everywhere! The walk to our room revealed ‘behind the scenes’ with rubbish piled up, washing left in machines and remnants of building work (screws, off-cuts & nails) on the ground. Dinner was okay (ish), a distinct lack of choice of Beers and no atmosphere in the restaurant, with bright lighting, no window coverings and bare walls. I do hope the new owners get to grip with it.

Nice country pub, welcoming friendly staff and a nice garden. Which the kids liked Lovely Sunday lunch washed down with a nice pint of 6X ale

We stayed at the Penruddocke Arms for one night on our way home from a holiday in Cornwall, but sadly it wasn’t a great end to our holiday. The hotel is going through some changes of management which was quite evident. At first we were shown to a room with a double bed despite booking a room with a double and a single, because the wrong room had been written in the book. We were then shown to the correct room, but it didn’t have a double bed and a proper single bed, but a double bed and what looked like part of a child’s bunk bed, which wasn’t suitable for an adult. The mattress was so lumpy it was necessary to sleep on top of the duvet to make it slightly less uncomfortable. The double bed was at least comfortable. We also didn’t have pillows initially as new ones had been ordered but these were brought up quite soon after we arrived. The WiFi only worked in one corner of the room, not a huge deal as I did have 4G but could be annoying for some. Also the room was really noisy from the road right outside. The windows really need double or triple glazing as it was difficult to sleep with so much traffic noise. We ate in the hotel that night and even though we were the only people there eating, the food took a long time to arrive. When it did come though, it was good. When we went to checkout in the morning we couldn’t find any way to get inside the rest of the building; the front door and side door to the bar were both locked. Without being given any instruction on checkout, we ended up simply leaving our room key with a cleaner. If no one is going to be around in the morning for checkout, then some system like a key box should be in place. I have given two stars, one because the food (when we eventually got it) was nice. The second star is for Will, the young man who checked us in, helped me get the WiFi, brought us pillows, served us in the bar/restaurant and generally seemed to be running the place single handed! He was fantastic. The uncomfortable bed, noisy room, long wait for the food and lack of presence at checkout means I cannot award this place any more than two stars. Perhaps when the new owners have finished their renovations it will be better.

Very nice Pub. Not much else in the village. We were visiting family nearby. Host (Carly). very nice. Meal in the evening was very good. BUT THEY DID NOT DO BREAKFAST! It said on Booking.com that they did. Carly says she has told them, but they still keep putting it on. This was a great disappointment as that is one of the best reasons for going to a B and B. It's on the main road but was very quiet on the Sundaty morning.

We booked for a night on our way down to Cornwall - accommodation was as described and very comfortable - big room - with everything we needed nice touches with cafetière rather than just instant coffee - Jemma couldn’t have been more helpful we had our dog with us and they are really dog friendly - weather was awful so we ate in the pub - nice log fire and food was really good - pasta bake and sausage and mash - would definitely recommend for a short stay

We dropped into this pub on the way back from Southampton Boat Show. What a lovely warm welcome we had. Food was lovely - a steak and mushroom pie with the lightest pastry ever. Friendly barmaid and atmosphere. Clearly enjoyed by locals, which I always take as a good sign.

Just wow!!! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The food is to die for…. Such a wide selection of meals to offer, I opted for the Sirloin and was not dis appointed. Will be returning, again and again, even if it means driving an hour from home to get here.

Very easy 5! I didn't look at the booking form properly and the check in was 5pm, I turned up 1.40pm where I met Carley the landlady, she very politely pointed out check in time and offered to clean a room quickly for me so come back in an hour. About 30 minutes later a very out of breath Carley came out to tell me the room was ready. So very simple I got £40 of room and a million pounds of service. The place is in beautiful settings with a huge beer garden with a beautiful view, highly recommended, a little gem in the middle of nowhere worth seeking out

Went there for lunch today, our first visit for a while. The food was, as always, remarkably good. My wife had the Thai crab fishcakes with a chilli jam, they were exquisite. It is also worth visiting the Penruddocke Arms for the chips, wow!

Portion sizes are huge! Worth every penny! Food is always delicious! I have visited here often. Friendly staff and atmosphere.

Lovely pub and excellent food with huge portions. Don’t be put off by the unassuming exterior. The food is mainly burgers, steaks and salads, but it is very good quality and I will definitely visit again.

Just had a FANTASTIC meal for two people, I booked for 7pm got there on time, taken straight to our table drinks order taken within 2 minutes had our drinks I had ham eggs chips my friend had chicken in pasta sauce, I then had chocolate & caramel cheesecake with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, my cheesecake could have fed two. It's not our first visit to the Penrudock Arms. My thanks to Carly front of house & I believe her husband Matt in the kitchen. It's worth going a little bit out of the way to visit. Despite Covid 19 they seem to be coping well, the exterior of pub needs TLC.

I stay here regularly, some may think I’m part of the fixtures, I work around the area a lot and the pen has been my go to place to stay for a few years now. Carly is a great landlady and will do anything for anyone to make their stay enjoyable and Matts cooking is honest, tasty and constantly changing with the seasons (in fact I’m sat eating a pulled pork nacho starter (Matty knows how to handle his meat)) The place has been improved over the years aesthetically and these changes are making this a great destination restaurant and bar. Definitely recommend 100%

Enjoy coming here whenever visiting my friend in Wilton (she used to live very nearby to the pub). Good selection of beers and ales, decent and affordable wines by the glass. Carly is a terrific, hardworking landlady. Husband is the chef and the food is ... wow! Delicious. Innovative dishes and old favourites. Generous portions. Do hope you’ll soon be open again for drinks and dine in.

The staff were polite, friendly and couldn't do enough to please and considering there were 17 of us they did amazing to bring everything out at once. The food was excellent and very good value. I can't wait to go back

Although we've lived in the area for 2 years, this is the first time we have visited this pub and we wish we'd tried it earlier. Wonderful value Friday lunch for 2, we both had the fish and chips and the meal was cooked to perfection, delicious, tender cod coated with crispy golden batter, and succulent chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Excellent beer too, really nicely-kept. Carly is a very friendly and helpful landlady and the menu is very varied. To paraphrase Arnie, "We'll be back!"

The decor may not be great but the chef is. Excellent English food. The chef makes his own bread which is delicious. Prices very reasonable.

Went again for my birthday treat. Very good food had by all (12). All meals came out together and all hot from start to finish. Very friendly staff. Nothing to much trouble for them. Look forward to my next visit .

Verdaderamente el mejor pescado y patatas fritas que he probado en mi vida. Grandes porciones y las patatas fritas son una maravilla. Todas las otras comidas en el menú que he probado son igualmente maravillosas y deberías probar el Steak and Mushcoom Pie. Es para morirse, como es la salsa que se obtiene con ella.No solo eso, sino que el servicio es el mejor que he experimentado: rápido, alegre y muy acogedor, la comprensión y la no solicitud son demasiados problemas. Me alojé aquí con mi esposa, mi cuñada y su familia, ya que estábamos en el cumpleaños número 90 de la tía de mi esposa. Nos hicieron sentir bienvenidos desde el principio, cuando después de conducir de la noche a la mañana desde Edimburgo, Carly nos preparó unas copas a las 9 am para tenerlas en el jardín de la cerveza. Four of us ate here. The service was superb food beyond reproach they even offered to do a special for one of us. Don’t be put off by the appearance it’s still in progress. Would highly recommend we will be back

Had an evening meal in the pub whilst staying in the accommodation. Food was excellent - very good portions and great value. Local ale was very nice too and staff very friendly.

Visited here for dinner as my parents were staying in one of the rooms. Absolutely couldn't fault the food and it was very competitively priced too. The landlady was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Picked this pub of TripAdvisor for it's location to the Salisbury plane's as we like greenlaning. from the outside it's work in progress But the staff are very friendly and the FOOD WAS EXCELLENT good beer it more than meet our expectations the room we stayed in was basic and functional clean warm comfty bed slept well breakfast next morning again didn't disappoint lovely choose will Definitely be staying there again

Possibly the best chips I've eaten in 12 months (and that includes a couple of Michelin starred restaurants). Large portions of pub grub. Will be going back. Pub toilets being refurbished in November.

A group of bikers from The Lymington motorcycle club often call in to this pub for a lunch stop and the service is friendly and efficient and the food is great.

The place to stay. About 15 minutes out of Salisbury, this pub and accommodation is just what you need. Quiet and friendly with excellent food and even better staff. Always friendly and if you're luck you'll see the peacocks.

La única razón por la que no le he dado estas 5 estrellas es porque el lugar está cansado y realmente necesita un estiramiento facial. Nos detuvimos allí hace unos días buscando un sándwich de almuerzo. Habíamos probado nuestro pub habitual, pero estaba cerrado. Cuando entramos pensé, oh querido, esto no parece muy prometedor. Sin embargo, cuando llegó la comida fue increíble! Ambos pedimos un BLT en pan crujiente. Vino con un plato de ensalada mixta con aderezo balsámico maravilloso y también con un plato de patatas fritas. El pan crujiente era fresco y el relleno de trozos grandes de tocino recién cocinado era excelente. El servicio fue realmente bueno también. Pedí algo de ketchup y mi esposo me pidió un poco de mostaza inglesa y ambos vinieron en pequeños platos blancos con una cuchara pequeña en cada uno.

Visitamos ayer para una cena y habíamos verificado con antelación que podíamos quedarnos en nuestra autocaravana en el aparcamiento. Desde el momento en que entramos, la casera no pudo hacer más por nosotros. La comida era casera, deliciosa y a un precio muy razonable. Hay un área de juegos para niños y pollos y pavos reales en corrales para que los niños se divirtieran. Un montón de asientos al aire libre. El comedor ha sido reformado y hay obras para renovar la sala de juegos. Incluso nos hicieron un café por la mañana, a pesar de que no estaban realmente abiertos. Si nos dirigiéramos de esta manera otra vez, definitivamente regresaríamos.

While staying in the area,we had an evening meal at The Penruddocke,we were greeted with a friendly smile from the landlady,it was a Monday night and a bit quite, a good variety to choose from the menu all at reasonable prices plus there is a special's board,i have to say the meal we had was tastey and very much enjoyed.

Booked for 12 people with 2 children and a wheelchair user. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were treated very well and the food was delicious. No mean feat serving 12 together. Can highly recommend. There was plenty on our plates and we were full to bursting.

We had a meal at lunchtime and evening and they were both excellent. Could not do enough for us. There were a group of us and all the different meals looked excellent.

Took my wife here for a valentines meal and they didn't disappoint! Staff were very friendly and the food was amazing! Defo be back again soon.

We had a daughter's christening party held at the penruddocke. They supplied the buffet food which was fantastic (hot & cold). We had approximately 80, very hungry people and they kept pouring the food out which was fantastic nobody went home hungry! They have a wide range of drinks available and a lovely play area which kept the children well entertained! So very one was happy. Highly recommend, fantastic service and plenty of parking everyone.

I just popped in as my two young boys, so thought I would give the place a go. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. The children's menu was pretty typical, but the boys enjoyed it, I had a chicken cajun salad and it was absolutely lovely. Yes the decor is a bit dated and some of the nooks and crannys look a bit shabby but if you want a great welcome, good food and good value for money then this is the place.

A very nice family run hotel, with a traditional atmosphere. Hand cask ales and an open fire added to the character of this place. Rooms spaciousness very clean. Highly recommended.

Out with friends, party of eight. Entered the pub via the side door next to the car park to be greeted by the smell of toilets and urine!! Wondered what we'd done....... However, the very friendly staff soon made us forget the initial odor. We were accommodated in the restaurant area, nice and warm though decor and carpet very dated and sad. Understand it's under new management and they're 'working on it'. The food more than made up for that. Steaks perfectly cooked, ham was beautiful and moist with perfectly cooked eggs. The cooking oil used was obviously of good quality, clean and hot as the fried foods weren't left greasy and all were nice and crispy. The garlic mushrooms were excellent, still firm inside but the outer crumb crisp,tasty. Don't judge a book by it's cover. We'll be back........... Thank you.

Cenamos una de las noches en el pub. La relación calidad precio nos pareció buena. Platos sencillos y clásicos con buen sabor y bien cocinados. Quizá la hamburguesa pecaba un poco de grasienta pero no era significativo. Buena atención.

We went to the Penruddocke Arms for the first time last night. It was a special Seafood Night so we booked a few weeks in advance but arrived to a fairly quiet pub. It's a big pub so somewhat lacking in atmosphere but the new owners are busy doing lots of improvements which will definitely help. We loved the music choices though!We ate scallops, sea bass and lemon tart. All of it was really really good and a fantastic price at just under £20 each for the 3 courses.All in all a lovely night with friendly service and fabulous food, we will be back.

Three of us recently had lunch at The Penruddocke and chose from the excellent value £6.00 midweek menu. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented and we were greeted by the friendly landlady who made us feel very welcome. I also chose to add a dessert for an additional £2.00 and had one of the best apple crumbles and custard I've ever had in a restaurant - my friends were so well fed after their main course they didn't have room for dessert but as I had chosen the delicious Cajun chicken salad I felt I could allow myself a pudding!

We visited the Penruddocke with our friends for an evening meal and to see what it was like not having been for some years and now it is under new management. We were not dissapointed, the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent as was the food. As with most places there was so much to choose fromon the menu that it was difficult to decide what to have, but decide we did and enjoyed every mouthfull, four empty plates, starters and mains, there was no room for desserts.The toilets were spotlessly clean so another five stars.We would not hesitate to recommend this pub to friends.

My wife and I were looking for a place to eat at a good price (not £16 a main) and this was the only pub in the area! The food was excellent with superb presentation. The dining room was modern and clean. Dessert's were yummy! Lovely staff. It's a shame this place is not local to us because we definitely would be back!

I took my grandparents and my 4 year old for lunch at the penruddocke arms last week. I drive past every day but this was my first visit. The welcome from the man behind the bar was excellent and my son was well looked after, which is important to me when eating out. Fab menu plus good kids menu. My burger was clearly homemade and great quality at a good price. All happy with the experience.

HELLO ALL today we were invited out for sunday luch close to home at the penruddocke arms iv driven past for years never going in and so glad we did it is a very welcoming place open log fire and clean and tidy menu great but we had roast mind you the only choice was beef but i like beef anyway when it came to the table i was very impressed fresh veg loads of hot gravy it was so nive and tastey the we had a hot pudding i can honestly say it was 10 out of 10 xxx the place needs abit updating but well worh a trip the man behind the bar was so lovely well done hot food hot plates and warm welcome feel ashamed iv not made the effort before thank you xxx

Very pleasant meal - good value - convenient location on the road from Wilton to the A350 - you won't be disappointed.

Found this place the other day, exterior a tad tired but has no reflection on the welcoming interior, bar staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, I had the home made burger and chips and by far the best I've ever had proper home made and full of flavour, my wife had the special of the day which was roasted sea bass which she loved. A highly recommended pub with quality food and an overall pleasurable experience, most recommended

Food was ok. Menu pretty standard 'pub grub' but fairly priced.This is a large very much open plan pub, just outside a village, so needs something specai about it to get locals in and people from further afield. Unfortunately the outside looks a little tired and tatty, and the inside is the same. The decor is straight out of the 70s/80s and really needs updating to attract more customers. In a rural setting, your typical cosy pub with private, comfy corners to sit would go down well with visitors to the area. Shame, but I think people driving on the B3089 would glance at this pub, and continue on to nicer looking pubs in other nearby villages.
