The Beckford Arms—a place that once whispered promises of rustic charm and countryside sophistication. But, do not be fooled by the unchanged charming stone facade the internal organs of this once great pub have rotten. What now awaits you is a culinary catastrophe so profound it makes you question if any of the staff even know what a decent pub looks like. Let’s start with the burger, a dish so fundamental to a pub that it should be impossible to muck up. And yet, the new chef in the kitchen at The Beckford has managed to create something that could only be described as a taste-free hockey puck between two fat soaked buns. This double pâté burger was so dry it made the Sahara look like a lush oasis. As for flavor, it had all the zest of a damp dishrag. Was it beef? Was it cardboard? The line between the two has never been blurrier. And then there was the pork chop—a piece of meat so brutally overcooked that I feared for the welfare of the pig’s descendants. I’ve seen ceramic tiles with more give than this. One bite and you’re met with an experience so dry, so arid, that you can’t help but question all the life choices that led you to this exact moment. But the pièce de résistance, the absolute cherry atop this dreadful cake, our waiter. He had all the charm of a door-to-door double glazing salesman and the overfamiliarity of a childhood friend you’ve been trying to avoid for the past 15 years. His demeanour was that of a coked up divorceé who’s taken up waitering to hang around with the kids and flirt with customers. The Beckford might have had a lot going for it, but it seems this is no longer the case. In conclusion, if you find yourself meandering through the Wiltshire countryside, driven by the romantic notion of a quaint pub lunch at the Beckford of old, do yourself a favor—keep driving.

This is probably the best pub I've ever eaten at. The food is excellent and has been in the many years we've visited. It's in a very pretty location and it has a great atmosphere

Fabulous Sunday Roast. One of the best chicken roast I have had. Everything on my plate tasted divine. The potatoes had been cooked in herbs and were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The test for me is the yorkie pud which was perfect. Great selection of veg which is hiding under the meat in the photos. The chicken was really tasty. My husband had the beef which melted in your mouth. It’s a big place with many different sections to eat. We hadn’t booked but they found us a table for two outside under the canopy. There is a heater there and rugs if you get cold. It looked lovely from what I saw inside with beautiful chandeliers. The staff had a lot of tables to look after. So service was a tad slow. But the staff were lovely. Will definitely recommend.

We've been staying at this Pub for more than 20 years. We always dine in their popular restaurant. The rooms are tasteful and breakfast is buffet and or full English. The last time we ate here was last October and loved the Frangipane desserts and the burgers. After your meal, you can retire to the large open fire drawing room with two large comfy sofas. Its a quiet and restful location, but would mention the little car park can get pretty busy at the weekends, not a problem, just park round the corner near a bush. Dogs welcome in the pub, with various dog lead hooks and water bowls.

This little gem right on the outskirts of Salisbury is well worth the detour. Food was fresh, well thought out, and properly cooked - not to mention the service which was immense. All within an idilic setting right at the gate to Dorset. Can not recommend this enough!

Excellent food and service Would be nice to have a dog free area as our meal was interrupted by an aggressive dog barking and growling at a really beautiful German Shepherd ..that did not react at all. This was however an unpleasant unwelcome part or out dining experience

All about detail. Beautiful accommodation (wood burning stove ready to light, soft linen, home made brownie). Choice of high end pub food and/or really delicious modern gastro , all very reasonably priced. Decor = cool but comfy, and friendly, attentive service is also thrown in. Lovely Easter weekend including a run round the beautiful lake, but beware: your city running shoes will get wet and muddy.

Charlie It was a pleasure to meet you last night and talk Bristol cars! I have to say that what you have created here with your team is truly exceptional . In my 40 years in business, I’ve stayed in hotels, pubs and bed & Breakfasts and none of them have made me feel so welcome as your team did yesterday. I’m also in the hospitality business and extremely proud of the team, we’ve created so have some understanding of what that takes, and also what exceptional customer service looks like. The food is on a par with the service, and without doubt the tastiest ox cheek I’ve ever had. I came here just for one night to take some time out to think through our vision and purpose and what I have experienced as simply reaffirmed to me, the importance of inspiring your team with your belief and ethos, such that your customers feel a part of something very special. Please pass on my thanks to all those I met who made my stay, not only comfortable but memorable. I’ll be returning with my good lady, and will soon be regulars as well as advocates. I hope that it won’t be too long before you reinstate a Bristol into the family and I’m sure I’ll soon see one outside to park mine alongside! Seriously Charlie - your team, knocked it out the park! I’m truly grateful Jules

Superb country pub with excellent food, great atmosphere, good wine list and several real ales. Some good walks through the local countryside and Fonthill estate starting at the pub, and the garden at the back is lovely and sunny (weather permitting!). Several rooms if you're staying, plus lodges elsewhere on the estate. Highly recommended.

Regularly partake of their London Particular Soup (pea and brimming with fabulous hock) but today had a celebratory lunch. Everything perfect - melt in the mouth mustard mash, charming attentive service from new FOH member Izzy and the meat? Feather blade which was, frankly, the best piece of beef I've ever eaten... fellow guests were equally complimentary. Thank you Beckford!

The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. I started with the Jhinga Peshwari, and my main dish, the Jalfrezi, was absolutely delicious and full of flavor – my favorite so far! The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both casual meals and special occasions. I highly recommend visiting 1 Spice – you’ll absolutely love their food and exceptional service. A true gem in Devizes!

We used the Club Room at the back of the pub for a Christmas quiz party with friends. The space was fantastic. Warm and cozy (roaring wood burner) yet we had the space needed for our interactive quiz. We only had a small group of 6 but it can accommodate many more. Everyone had a great evening. Highly recommend it for a gathering.
