Wyndham Arms in Wiltshire

Classic Sunday lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding. Excellent whitebait starter. Refreshing Old Speckled Hen beer. Very tasty beef, fresh vegetables, huge portions, all at a reasonable price.

Excellent food, pub atmosphere ang good real ale. We had four dishes and all were highly satisfying. The fish and chips was as simple as you get, but cooked just right. At the other end of the scale I had braised pigeon, which I never saw anywhete begore, and it was delicious.

We took Mum for her 87th birthday today, Saturday 13th July. What a lovely meal! Portions were huge and the food was amazing. Thank you so much to the wonderful manageress and chef. We will be back!!!

We went for dinner for my partner's birthday. We were greeted very warmly as we entered, like old friends. We had a starter and a main, but way too full for dessert. Fantastic food and great portions. Will definitely go again!!!!

12 of us just had a wonderful evening to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday. The food was absolutely delicious, served all at the same time and hot. The staff are so very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

We waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged by the landlady who then told us she could only seat 5 and there were 7 of us. There were 3 free tables and three benches opposite them. She said that was for the locals. 2 of us were locals. I asked if we could sit on the settees on which there would have been ample room for us. She said you can’t eat on the settees that’s my front room and not yours. A landlady who clearly does not want or need customers. We were the only people at the bar there was no one beating the door down to occupy the spare seats. Well I can happily say we would never eat or drink in your ‘front room’. Well done landlady several customers lost today. Plus thanks for the welcome to the area!!

Eight of us booked in for Sunday Lunch and it was immediately obvious by the number of diners it was a very popular place! - Despite this the staff were very relaxed and very attentive. In our party we had 2 vegetarians, 5 ordering Sunday lunch with different meats and 1 ordering something different. All of our food was served together and the standard was excellent- way much better than you would expect from a 'Pub' - very much more restaurant quality than pub food. There was plenty of meat and the mix of veg far exceeded the usual carrots, cauliflower and peas. I now know why it was so busy/popular. Thank you team.

Really lovely pub - had heard about this from family a year ago and had to try. Portions are huge which I love and the food was delicious. Staff were incredibly friendly and hoping to go back again next year!

This is what a country pub should be. Friendly staff, excellent food and good surroundings. Well worth a detour if anywhere nearby.

We selected this for a mid-way stop on the way back from a holiday in Devon. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Mary. My husband said the beer was great and had seconds! I have a problem with eating rich and creamy foods, so asked for a plain chicken portion with salad and this was accommodated without a problem even though it's not on the menu. My husband enjoyed his home-made lasagne very much.

If you want fantastic food, great staff and a welcoming atmosphere this is the place for you Paul the chef really knows his stuff - no pre packaged stuff here, Mary and Hayley are just lovely, went for a roast today, as usual absolutely delicious, and dessert well Paul’s home made Eton Mess Cheesecake was out of this world, we do eat there during the week also, lovely food all round, treat your tastebuds ASAP they will thank you honest !!

Booked a table for an anniversary meal with friends. What a pleasure to find a friendly, family pub with a superb chef, excellent choice of meals and drinks, and at friendly prices!! A good bottle of Malbec? £15.50..amazing!! The scallops for starters were superb...high class restaurant standard...and Sunday roasts generous & delicious! We couldn't really squeeze in a pudding, but there was an Afogato on the menu and we found ourselves pouring hot coffee over vanilla ice-cream and sharing between couples. There was no blaring music, just good old-fashioned cheerful service. We'll be back....

Visited for my birthday July 1st with my wife and 3 friends. Superb meals,fresh veg,great portions,cooked perfectly. Will use again next time I am nearby. Ps recommend the steak and kidney pudding. Would recommend pub to anyone.

This place was highly recommended to us and we can see why. The food is far superior to what you normally get in a Pub with several home made dishes, fresh perfectly cooked variety of vegetables, large portions and a great mix of salad. We are a party of seven and all meals were served at the same time and hot. The staff are excellent being very friendly, attentive and efficient. Having now returned several times we have found that the high standards never slip and every visit is well worth the journey. Thank you team we will be back !

I went here on Tuesday evening for supper. The place was busy with a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming which was great for a solo traveller. The food was of a very high standard.

As ever the food was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and piping hot, my sister in law is vegetarian, her meal was delicious. The staff are friendly, funny and nothing is too much trouble...we will be back next week!

This pub was such an unexpected find, such friendly, lovely staff. I met a friend at this half way point between our homes and was delighted we chose the Wyndham Arms. We were welcomed so warmly and chose a table at the very back of the restaurant area.We both chose the main course Chicken and bacon salad which was absolutely OUTSTANDING. If I had been served this in London for double the price I wouldn't have felt I was being ripped off. We totally outstayed our welcome but were never made to feel as though the staff wanted to get rid of us. This place is utterly amazing. It's an unpretentious pub, staffed by extremely friendly and helpful people, that serves the sort of imaginative, memorable and beautifully presented food you might expect to find in some posh restaurant in Central London for huge prices, but here you won't be paying the huge prices. We (including my godson the chef) met here for my birthday lunch on the 24th October and couldn't have suggested any improvement to anything we ate. The tiger prawns in a coriander cream sauce were perhaps the most spectacular of the starters; the local lamb prepared in three equally delicious ways probably won the main course for us, and there was no point in trying to discriminate between the puddings because they were all to die for and we ended lunch fighting to nick each other's. Wine list well sourced and very reasonably priced. As we were all driving, I could only have a glass of the Malbec, so was extremely touched to be presented on leaving with a small personal bottle of fizz with which to finish celebrating my birthday when I got home. I could not recommend anything about the Wyndham more highly. It's fabulous.

Wonderful Chef - a master of his art. This place seems to be an unassuming pub but the food it serves is worthy of an upmarket restaurant. I have said before on here that it is a hidden gem and it truly is. If you are in this area it is not to be missed. Pub prices for fine dining!

Very rarely right reviews, however we have visited this pub several times now and we have never been disappointed. We are always treated like returning friends and in such turbulent times, this is like a breath of fresh air. Food as always was superb. And the lick of paint and new carpet breathes new life into the building. Cannot recommend highly enough. We will be returning as soon as possible.

Visited here for the first time as recently moved to the area, great menu options suitable for all tastes. The service was excellent the pub was busy but all distancing measures in place and the staff were attentive.I had the pans fried chicken, and my partner and friends had the squid to start which they said was amazing. It's been a tough time for all small businesses and it's great to see that The Wyndham continues to beat above its weight. The 'Eat out to Help out' has meant we haven't been able to book in for two weeks to eat!!! That said, we've still managed to have drinks. Great to see everyone today and enjoy the wonderful hospitality.

Visited the Wyndham Arms today with a group of friends for Sunday lunch! Can't fault the Wyndham at all, the service was amazing from both ladies working. Dog friendly pub. The food was amazing, I had the belly pork roast which was lovely, the fish and chips and the burger also looked really good, the portions are huge! I would definitely recommend to anyone after a good Sunday lunch. I can see why they have 5 stars on trip advisor.

This is the first negative review I have made on trip advisor and in general I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt but I have just been to the Wyndham Arms and experienced the worst customer service I think I have ever had.Having bought a couple of drinks and snacks and asked if we could sit outside and put up one of the umbrellas we were told to be careful as one of the outside parasols was broken. We tried to put up the parasol that we sat at but found the cord was detached from the handle mechanism used for putting up the umbrella and clearly broken. In the process of putting it up a grey haired lady, I believe possibly the owner, came out and asked us “if either of us had an education”. She then proceeded to accuse us that we had broken the parasol and told us to move away from it. Initially I thought she was joking as couldn’t believe someone would be so rude to a customer but very quickly realised she wasn’t.I worked in many restaurants, pubs and customer service roles when I was younger and would never dream of talking to a customer in this manner. We didn’t force the umbrella, we noticed the cord was already detached when we initially started to open it. I feel really shocked about being talked to in this way as a paying customer, it spoilt what had up to that point been a lovely afternoon. I certainly won’t be returning and will advise all friends in the area to avoid too.I would like to point out though the other lady working behind the bar was lovely and polite.

Called in spontaneously for a beer and something to eat. Menu included lots of delicious sounding options. We had the sausages and mash in onion gravy, and the pan fried chicken breast with spring onion mash and roquefort sauce. Both came with an ample portion of beautifully cooked vegetables for each. Food was delicious and prices quite reasonable. Thoroughly recommend dining here.

Went for a tentative visit at lunchtime .welcomed by staff felt safe as precautions re covid were high and being adhered to.Subsequently we had a very nice visit and decided to go back in the evening for a meal .The meal was very good food was freshly prepared and cooked to our liking and of high qualityMenu restricted re covid but suit most people. OK, so this pub was picked fairly much at random being half-way between myself and my daughter and son-in-law (who has also reviewed) and boy, was it a good choice!Our first pub visit since lockdown and what a pleasant surprise. Hand sanitizer at the door, on our table and in the loo with requests to use it regularly. Social distance marked at the bar and a one at a time policy on the loos. No face masks but I think they weren't required - the staff kept a god distance at all times possible and I think masks would have detracted from the experience anyway. We were actually quite apprehensive of this first venture into the post-lockdown world but I don't think things could have been better.Right, that's the boring but necessary Covid stuff dealt with - now let's review it as a pub. Real ale is important for me - they had three Old Speckled Hen, Exmoor Ram and Gritchie''s English Lore. Didn't know Gritchie's but a little research shows it is not only fairly local but a farm producing its own barley and malting it itself. Whatever, it is a nice pint.There was a TV but it wasn't huge, it was high in the corner of the bar and the sound was down low, certainly we didn't know it was there from where we sat eating. So it didn't distract like in so many pubs. And no muzac!Restaurant, menu was quite small but very varied, prices decent and portions huge. In fact I was still groaning the next day after my steak and kidney pud, I even had to leave a couple of chips (now that doesn't happen often!)What really set the pub apart was the attitude of the staff - they couldn't have been more helpful, one of our party wanted a slight change to the food and the chef himself came out to check everything. Nothing was too much for any of the staff - proper old-fashioned service. Especially since they got quite busy - the pub itself remained empty with many diners availing themselves of the outside eating options.Oh, they do food take-away, and I did avail myself of their beer take-away to return home with a 3 pint carton of that excellent Gritchie's beer. I didn't know what to expect visiting a pub for lunch (Quite apprehensive). All doubts I had disappeared at the door.I felt safe and looked after by the attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble.The beer was fantastic, trying a beer I hadn't had before.The food was outstanding, the menu is at the moment I feel is reduced but they have something to suit anyone. They also do takeaways which seemed like a roaring trade, to be honest this speaks volumes for the food.I will be visiting this pub again very soon looking forward to the safety and the delicious food.Thank you very much.
