Lovely, quirky, quality cafe in the heart of Marlborough. Superb light lunches, with a good range of drinks, cakes and tasty snacks; we all had superb sandwiches and deilcious drinks, and the rustic charm and atmosphere of the building makes it a fine place to eat and chill with friends.

Food was very disappointing! "Soft style scrambled eggs and sautéed mushrooms on toast" Eggs were bland and overcooked, pale yellow in colour and had 0 taste no matter how much salt you added. The mushrooms were abysmal, I was expecting "sautéed" but was given mushrooms clearly out of a tin, no caramelisation or seasoning, likely cooked in a microwave as the water content still in them went into the eggs and made them grey, poor. DOGS! The dog situation was disgusting, 3/4 of the people that came into the café had dogs, its fine if you're in a pub or somewhere easy for drinks - not if you're in an eatery, sat down trying to eat your food and there's literal hair going onto your table from yapping dogs under your feet from other tables. Really poor, unhygienic. Coffee was actually nice and the staff were good but leave motorway services style food at the services and kick the dogs out, the worst thing was skipping on Bunce's for a change to try Mercer's - big mistake!!

Check it out!! Stopped at this little coffee shop, very friendly staff… coffee wasn’t bad either only I offered mine to the homeless person after a couple of sips who was sat under the arch just before the high street! He said he really liked the coffee, so I guess it was really nice!! I had no complaints from the teaspoon amount I had. Place is fairly small with a few tables, but to be honest, it’s well stocked and fairly clean. Cappuccino was £3.10 for a small and I got extra chocolate sprinkles!! Worth a visit!

I dropped in by chance and ordered at the counter, taking a seat upstairs. I ordered Victoria Sponge cake that was to die for. It had what I am sure was fresh and delicious homemade jam in it. The Americano coffee I had was average to good. Ordered flat bread with bacon and cheese. It was really good with a very generous serving of well cooked bacon. Nice friendly staff. I thoroughly recommend Mercer's if you are passing through Marlborough and want a wholesome snack.

Ordered 2 cups ot tea and 2 toasted sandwiches. Tea was quick to arrive but sandwiches took 40 minutes and one was wrong. Waitress took it away and bought a replacement 5 minutes later. Tiny sandwiches cut into 4 mouthfuls with a very small amount of cheese inside and a of undressed garnish. No cutlery and no napkin. Waitress did not manage to crack a smile. Really disappointing.

The Mercers owner really tries to be inclusive for people with allergies. She had gluten-free options and dairy free options, too. She was also happy for my daughter to eat her own food as she has egg and oat allergy to go with the gluten and dairy. My daughter had a dairy Free milkshake, with plenty of options on the dairy free milk. (Made also with dairy free ice-cream) I had an almond milk latte and a gluten and dairy free brownie. It's nice to be able to go out for a coffee and not feel like a hindrance. A massive thank you.

We’ve not been to Marlborough for some time and usually go to polleys tea rooms. Went in sat Down and was completely underwhelmed with the menu, felt very cramped and the cakes which used to be so nice looked very average so left without having anything. Then just happend upon Mercer’s in a little alley just near the car park. Extremely welcoming, good food, great value and everything home made. We will certainly return next time we visit from Fairford.

My first visit back to Mercer’s and the town of Marlborough after the pandemic has somewhat eased and boy how I’ve missed it . The lovely owner is still there along with the delightful staff although a couple have left due to the pandemic and very tough times she was saying. The coffee which is their forte was superb as usual, a really flavourful flat white and to eat I treated myself to the fish and chips which was new to me in here, it was truly delicious with light fluffy batter and succulent haddock inside and a nice helping of chips and mushy peas. No room for the homemade cake this time sadly. Great to be back and keep up the good work guys, See you in the summer!

The soup was very tasty! The young lady who served us was lovely! BUT the cafe was in the middle of receiving an order so the cafe was untidy. I saw that ice cream had been delivered so asked for a couple of scoops for dessert. I was told "No", in a very aggressive way (by an older lady who I suspect was the manager) "it is special ice-cream that can only be used for milkshakes".It clearly had Marshfield marked on the tub which I know to be an excellent brand. Please could you explain why you did not wish to make a couple of extra pounds by selling me an ice-cream? Your verbal customer service skills were not the best.

We do not know the city, had just arrived at 8pm and literally walked into this restaurant as it was the first we came across that was not a chain and looked like they really cooked. We had a nice welcome, but the lighting is overhead, spots set into the ceiling, providing a very harsh uncomfortable light. It was like eating in Lidl. Small rechargeable table lights would have grabs this rest. Food was wonderful- especially the trout starter. Unfortunately the waitress with all the good will in the world was not trained and did her best but was just not professional. Sweet yes, but a restaurant of this calibre and price needs professional staff, not sweet staff.

Magnificent mansion, magnificent estate and superb room. In terms of quality, cleanliness of the infrastructure, nothing to complain about, everything is perfect, even more than perfect. A very nice touch in the room for my birthday with a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates. The breakfast is excellent, high quality and gargantuan. The bartender is also very professional, helpful and pleasant. On the other hand, the quality of reception and check-out could be improved. The welcome is not the warmest although professional. The staff at breakfast are very professional. However, one person was really very cold, bordering on unpleasant. For the quality and price of the hotel's services, it's a shame. The biggest disappointment was not being able to purchase the large Lionel the lion soft toy, which is in all the rooms and, which is in all the photos of the hotel. There's even a message attached to his neck, stating that he's for sale at the front desk. However, at reception, we are told that this is not possible, that only the intermediate format remains. When you advertise everywhere, when you promise your child to "adopt" him, and in the end, there are none left or none, I find it borderline unprofessional. Especially when you pay £600 for a night, the least you can do is make sure you find a solution for the customer
