The Ship Inn- Burcombe in Wiltshire

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. Very attentive staff, good location and great pub with open fires and well spaced apart tables. Superb food - very generous portions and well priced.

We discovered this lovely pub on a camping trip with friends, it was a really rainy Saturday and we stopped for a lunch. We all agreed that this was some of the best pub food that we had ever had. The decor is very tastefully done, with a lovely log fire to give a welcoming atmosphere, outside there is plenty of tables and seating with a lovely garden that leads down to a beautiful stream running through the property , although due to the weather we couldn’t fully appreciate it! The menu although not large had plenty to tempt most tastes and budgets. I opted for a roasted pork chop with dauphinois potatoes and it was a generous size and beautifully cooked and presented. Two of the group had confit of duck leg which once again was superbly tasty and the other member had a smoked salmon sandwich with salt chips , the sandwich being generously filled with salmon and leaves. The beer was from a small brewery in Romsey and was really tasty. The service was really great , with the correct balance of attentiveness and distance. It is a little off the beaten track but well worth seeking out, we will definitely return if we are ever her again.

We got a table at short notice on a Saturday. Was quiet but we were well looked after and the food was excellent. This place deserves to do well!

Quintessential British riverside country pub. We stopped for lunch on our way to Southampton. Couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Beautiful surroundings in pretty village. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. We sat under willow trees next to the river and watched the damsel flies darting over the water. We were told they are sometimes visited by a kingfisher. The food was first class, freshly homemade and very tasty, and good value. Will definitely visit again.

Met some friends here having chosen it at random. We were enthralled by the setting by a stream. We sat outside in the garden and enjoyed the peaceful setting. Inside the pub has been beautifully and lovingly renovated throughout. We ate a variety of items from the menu (3 courses) and found the food to be excellent. Mussels, burgers, pork and dessert. Perhaps best of all was the service which was very attentive - despite us being as far from the bar as possible. In all, lovely location, venue, food and service.

A warm welcome and a log fire on a wet day. Food was excellent. We had starters and a side order of the very best chips. I was tempted to a dessert while the men had coffee and stole ice-cream and brandy snap from my plate. We will visit again and sit in the lovely garden.

Back in Burcombe again and had to visit the Ship Inn for Dinner - great food great service and a really good night - will be back again soon

Happened upon The Ship on our way down to Devon for a few days. Dropped in for lunch and glad we did. Superb food, really delightful staff and a beautiful looking pub. Wife had the Mackerel pate to start followed by bouillabaisse, both absolutely amazing. I had a quail tart followed by duck confit. Without s doubt the best pub food we’ve ever eaten and the young couple who run the place are lovely people who made us feel extremely welcome. We will be returning on our way back Highly recommend

We went in for a coffee, from outside we were saying it looked lovely with tables down by the river etc.. Inside it is very clean and really nicely decorated, it really looks nice. The Welcome was non existent, there was no 'hello,' I had to try to make conversation with a young lady who walked past us and totally ignored us. We ordered two coffees which were just put on the table without a word, except us saying 'thank you!' We went in there with a view of finding a different place for the family to go out for a meal, so disappointed we will not be back! When we left, there was no 'goodbye' or 'thank you,' I said 'thank you' no response! Later on we stopped and had a meal, lovely people friendly etc. etc. I complemented them on their service etc.!!

My daughter and I had an absolutely delicious meal here, it was definitely one of the best pub meals we have eaten and there are a lot of very good "gastro pubs" in this area. The service was great and they are very friendly, definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely perfectly cooked feather of beef for my Sunday lunch. My partner had the lamb which was also cooked to perfection. Ambiance was great with a roaring log fire. Service was excellent. Will be back for more.
