I absolutely love this family run cafe . Kerry and Rich are so lovely and welcoming. I’m a coffee snob and the coffee here is spot on . I should have put a photo of my breakfast on but I’ve eaten it , lol . The food is beautifully seasoned and very good value for money . There are tables outside but it’s pet friendly anyway . They also do outside catering . Please support this local business.

Went to celebrate a birthday on 2nd Dec. The decor and atmosphere were warm and lovely, the food was gorgeous and the staff were wonderful. I forget the name of the chap who served us (Valor?) but he was kind, friendly, helpful and funny. Good cider too! It was quite expensive but honestly it was worth it, especially as a gluten intolerant vegetarian... So many good options.

If we decide to go out for breakfast on a special occasion (birthday) we usually go to somewhere else close to The Beehive, but decided to try the beehive, to support another local business. We ordered some coffees, which were nice and also ordered two English breakfasts. The breakfasts were tasteless, definitely cheap produce and everything was cooked in a lot of oil. Weatherspoons would have been a better breakfast! It's such a shame as you want to support local businesses, but often you can be disappointed. Won't be going back for food.

Part of a group who had ordered festive Christmas lunch. The prawn cocktail consisted of two small lettuce leafs and half dozen small prawns covered in a sauce. The accompanying sliced bread was dry and curling at the corners. The main meal consisted of very thin sliced dry turkey that had obviously been sat under a heated light for some time, some people had carrots some did not, some had potatoes and some did not, and nobody had ever seen such small pigs in blankets, the mixed veg left a great deal to be desired. The service was appalling slow, some meals had been finished before other had received theirs. There appeared to be a total lack of organisation in the kitchen and a total lack of staff resource to cope. Based on todays experience would not recommend the Sandringham festive food under any circumstance. Very, very poor.

There are, arguably, two reasons to visit Downend. One is on a summer’s afternoon to watch Downend CC play cricket with the bar in full swing and plenty of boundaries being scored as the ground is relatively small; the other is to pay a visit to Melanie’s Kitchen. This delicatessen shop is a positive cornucopia of cheeses, bakery items, biscuits, chutneys, artisan breads etc etc. The man who serves at the cheese counter (who I assume is not Melanie!) is a fountain of knowledge on local cheeses and knows all of the local cheese producers, when their cheeses are at their best and is happy to provide advice to ensure that you will leave well satisfied having enjoyed a sensory and culinary experience second to none. It’s full marks from me.
