Horseshoe Pub in South Gloucestershire

I can’t recommend The Horseshoe enough! It’s a fantastic pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The real standout, though, is Rose, who works behind the bar. She’s an absolute gem—friendly, attentive, and always on top of everything. Rose has this incredible knack for making every customer feel special, remembering faces and orders like a pro. Her smile and positive energy really elevate the experience, and she’s always happy to have a quick chat while keeping things running smoothly. Whether you're popping in for a quiet pint, a catch-up with friends, or something livelier, Rose and the rest of the team at The Horseshoe will make sure you have a great time. Highly recommended!

Booked a table last night for 4 adults and 4 children,food was brilliant,the roast dinner for children is fantastic value,the mixed grill was the best I have had,the lady behind the bar was so friendly,it was really busy but the food didn't take that long but the lady still apologised,I was really impressed when we was leaving she thanked us,nice touch

Christmas Day lunch was a lovely day, staff were lovely and food was hot and plentiful. Didn’t feel rushed and will book again for next year 😊

Busy but good atmosphere and food

Friendly pub, with a good food menu that's reasonably priced. They like their horse racing in the bar, and there are live music acts quite often. Since my original review, the pub has been updated and revamped, with a large undercover outdoor area.

Good service, good selection of drinks, food is of a good standard, nothing to fault, very well run pub.

Real friendly and cosy pub has a bar and a restaurant inside including and a large beer garden with big screen tele. Foods not bad for the money and is somewhere you can bring your dog they even go as far to provide dog treats, water bowls and blankets

Great pub for drinks, loads of selection and cold, fizzy beer. Would 100% recommend. Food is also really good and brilliant value. Hunters chicken would be my recommendation.

We have eaten here several times recently and the food has been great. Good value and excellent service. Sarah who looked after us was very efficient and friendly.

Great food, just a shame about a rude staff member. Trying to order food and when someone changed their mind whilst in the process of ordering (not after the order had been paid for and submitted), the young man visibly sighed and curled his fingers in frustration. Meal was tasty and reasonably well cooked, good value for money. But I doubt I’ll be back

Lovely local family (and dog) friendly pub. A recently updated menu has added burger of the month, which is amazing. Friendly staff and various events throughout the week, I had great fun at the bingo, which is ran on the last Sunday of the month by the ever friendly Meg, who does a great job running it

It’s alright inside but staff don’t know half their own food offers and everytime I go there’s no one behind the bar. Calling out to the kitchen cos there’s 4 of us waiting there isn’t a good look at all.

After the refurb this place has totally changed for the better. The whole vibe inside is much nicer, the smoking area is 1000x, and week to week the atmosphere is top notch. Jake, the kitchen manager handles food like nobodies business, absolute bees knees. Zak, on the bar, pours the finest Guinness known to man. And Sophia’s is not too shabby either. 10/10, would recommend, always got the footy on. A lovely Euros was had at the horseshoe!

We’ve been coming to the pub once a week for the last 4 months. Always arriving between 8.40pm - 9pm. Every week we ask if they’re still serving food and are told the kitchen is shut. You clearly state you serve food to 9pm. It’s even more frustrating to see ‘friends of the staff members’ being served after 9pm.

I've been coming here for years every Monday for poker. Always a great night and good prices on drink. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.

We went down the horseshoe for dinner and it was lovely

I ordered the plant burger which was supposed to come with fries and onion rings according to the menu but it came without these and only with chunky chips (which I hate). When I had gone to the till to order she asked if I wanted it vegan. I asked what the difference was and she said just the cheese is changed. I asked her if this meant the fries and onion rings still come with it and she said yes. So I went ahead and ordered. My presumption is that the fries and onion rings aren't vegan because of the coating and that's why they weren't on the plate but they quickly put it down without me realizing. My husband had fries so they clearly hadn't run out. This meant I essentially only had the burger for the best part of £15. I wouldn't mind but there was no check back so I ate some of my husband's food also, and went hungry. Staff need to learn their menu but also they need to ensure there's no issues with the food. People paying £15 for a meal these days it needs to be actually worth it!!

It's a Full house from me, Great to see a Pub alive with the Noise of enjoyment, I had a bite to eat whilst watching the football food is Great when you consider the menu location and cost classic Pub grub just done right. Bar is stacked with options to Drink separate smoking area away from the normal outside seating area which I know is a Huge plus for some people. Decent boozer

oh my GOODNESS! this is by far and away the best place to eat in Downend. the service is absolutely wonderful, most especially from Jacob and Roxy who were so lovely and accommodating. i would recommend this place to everybody, and will continue to come back. thank you all!

Lovely staff who happily moved us to a different table in bar area when restaurant was too loud for my friends with hearing issues. Food excellent.

Love this place! But really love Lilleys Mango cider! I’ve just discovered it - sweet and delicious. Definitely my current “go to” drink! Highly recommend it.

Dirty menus and poor food, my steak was inedible, just fat and gristle, hunters chicken was overpowered by the bbq sauce, burger was burnt and to be honest I was still hungry when I left as the meals are more like child portions! So disappointed that I will not be eating there again any time soon! Come on green king sort yourselves out other green king pubs are so much better

I came to the horseshoe and was pleasantly surprised to see my favourite drink Lilys mango, and for my husband who loves Guinness, this top off with their friendly attentive team made for a perfect night.

Popped in on the way home as I’ve never been, had a lovely pint of Guinness. Will definitely be back and will be bringing some friends.
