I was appalled at the way two members of my family were treated here. Whilst the location was beautiful, and the food not bad, two members of our party had phoned ahead and checked whether since they were touring in their campervan, they could park up after the meal until the morning. Having been assured that it was no problem, on arrival they double checked with the staff. Again, they were reassured it was ok. Early in the morning, a member of staff purporting to be the owner, was aggressive and hostile, as he banged on their campervan screaming for them to leave. When my family wrote to the owner, he was equally rude, basically accusing my family of lying about having been told it was ok. After this treatment, I and my family will never go here again. To be honest, the food was mediocre anyway. We primarily went for the location and ambience. Steer clear if you value decent treatment.

Our relatives booked a table after being told they could stay overnight. They sought confirmation on arrival and again, in front of us all, they were told “it was no problem.” We had a pleasant evening but the next morning, our relative was awoken by thumping on the side of his vehicle. A man, purporting to be the owner was very aggressive and told them to leave NOW! They tried to explain but he wouldn’t listen and told them to leave NOW! Fair enough if they don’t permit overnight parking but it wasn’t a fault of our relative but of the staff, for giving out the wrong information. A nice get together spoiled by rude, arrogant behaviour. None of us will eat there again!

Had lunch date with a friend. The table was available as soon as we arrived, even though we were a little early. We had the herb crusted hake, which was delicious. The flavours were amazing, and I would heartily recommend it. To follow, we asked for the dessert menu, and it was refreshing to see a Stilton and crackers, a lovely alternative to a sweet dessert. All washed down with a bottle of Malbec. We had a lovely couple of hours catching up in fabulous surroundings.

Booked lunch here for my aunt and sister (both hard of hearing), we had a lovely meal, we all ordered the minute steak and all of us wanted small adjustments to what was on the menu and the staff were very obliging. Food was really well cooked and presented. We sat in the conservatory, which is a lovely setting. Table next to us was a little noisy which made conversations quite difficult with 2 hard of hearing guests. I would definitely recommend going to the Lock keeper.

We went on Saturday for a family meal and had a lovely time, the portions are huge and really tasty! The bar staff were great and really friendly also. Unfortunately we were put on a table not in the main service area right next to the door and the heating wasn't on so it was absolutely freezing, we had to keep our coats on until one of the staff brought over a fan heater which was much appreciated! We weren't brought cutlery for our dessert so had to go on a hunt for some also. Overall though it was a good experience and I look forward to coming back :)

It’s a shame to rate lower than 5 as had a couple of really good meals here recently. The Sunday lunch was a let down. It’s a shame as I’ve been looking forward to having a roast there. The chef wasn’t happy with the beef so the majority of the table switched to chicken. We waited for over an hour to get just a large Yorkshire pudding hiding what was or more so wasn’t on the plate. The roast potatoes weren’t roasted. The stuffing balls were little burnt bullets. My chicken was fine for me but as a portion for a man it just wasn’t enough. The waiting staff were amazing and very professional but the kitchen let it down. Sorry

On the way to Bath on Wed. 5th. of Feb. Called into The Lock Keeper for lunch having seen the online info. regarding the Feb. set menu , 2 courses for £18 , 3 for £25. When ordering we were told the offer didn't start until the following day . Did I have a Specsaver moment on the computer or were they taking the Mick ? Anyway we decided to try the main course but had to a wait 35 mins.for the chicken and the fish dishes. When the food did eventually arrive it was very good but the overall experience wasn't. Not one to be repeated. We will give the pub a miss next time we make the journey.

We were seated in the lovely conservatory area and experienced a fantastic service by the staff who were friendly and attentive. A special mention to Caitlin for serving us today! The atmosphere here is lovely, no loud music or anything like that, just a good old pub atmosphere. I’ve been coming to the lock keeper for a few years now as it’s a lovely country pub, With a homely, modern and upmarket feel. This being the first time this year i visited, I could sense straight away it had been taken over. I was disappointed the menu had changed a lot and things had been taken off. The food was also very average which was a shame as the lock keeper is a pub I’d always regarded as having first class pub food. It also feels like the decor doesn’t really give it the feel the pubs always been known for.

We finished our walk early so dropped in before our table reservation and had a drink at the bar, but staff turned our table around quick so we sat down 20 mins early which was much appreciated since we had a 6 hour drive home! Food was delicious - veggie roast and a chicken roast, followed by chocolate mousse and affogato - and reasonably priced. Staff were absolutely lovely and were working so hard as there were lots of big groups in for Christmas meals. Only taken 1 star off for atmosphere as while the inside is gorgeous and is looking particularly lovely with Christmas decorations, the outside of the pub by the petanque court and by the lock is looking a little tired. Lots of rubbish dumped by the back door where it looks like the cellar used to be. All in all a great place to stop for a bite to eat or a drink after a walk around Keynsham :)

The problem with a limited menu is just that….. It’s limited. If you are a regular visitor as we are, you quickly run out of choice. When we last visited there was no “Specials” available and that really narrowed the choice. They seem to serve what is available with random ingredients, for example, every time we order chicken it is served differently, the last time it was served with cold tomato slices, courgettes and a couple of small potatoes and a pesto type “Sauce”. This was entirely different than the last time we ordered chicken. I may be wrong but it gives the impression that the chef serves up whatever is available on the day. We find the sandwich choices very strange, why not have a more traditional selection? We understand that the days of hugely extensive menus are probably over but if a limited menu is preferred by the business, it needs to be changed regularly or return customers will quickly not be…. Return customers. The prices are a little on the high side and waiting time is sometimes a problem, however, the staff are always pleasant and the manager is very polite and helpful. The actual location is lovely and the ambience of the pub is good. This review is subjective, but the consensus from our group is the menu needs more variety end should focus on more traditional food options.

Food was pretty good to be fair (apart from (Mac and cheese side dish) but menu was very limited. Booked a table for 5.30pm and were seated on time. After 20mins of waiting had to ask waitress if we could order some food? We were told her “colleague” would be with us but didn’t see another waitress in our section the whole time. Waited a further 5mins and called over the same waitress again who then did take our order. In the meantime went to the bar myself for drinks. We’d finished starters and had to wait around 25mins for mains to arrive. When these were brought to the table our starter plates and cutlery were still there so wasn’t room for mains. Had to call waitress over after 5mins as we were still missing a side dish (Mac and cheese with beef cheek) which itself was really disappointing, lacking flavour and seemed to be slices of beef, not beef cheek. Once again no offer for drink orders so went to bar ourselves again and took empty glasses. Finally, no sight of waitress or offer of dessert so went to the bar to order it ourselves. Barman did apologise when we complained about service and side dish and did provide complimentary ice cream for our child.

I live in Keynsham, The Lock Keeper has been refurbished recently, looks very nice, but the prices increased substantially. I paid £8.75 for a 250ml glass of house wine, house wine, not the posh stuff. When I enquired why it was so expensive, I was told the paint was expensive and had to be paid for, the waitress told me that they wanted to get a Michlen star, which makes me feel and think that they don’t care if people question the prices as they only want the well healed any way. We were there again on Sunday 29th and the wine was the same price, I was not happy and took the time to check their menu when I got home, turns out there is a cheaper house wine which is £6.60 a glass, so why are customer being given the more expensive wine? I suspect this is under instruction to fleece the customers of as much cash as possible, I mean a glass of draft cider if £5.95, I recon that’s a 500% mark up. Time to look else where for a reasonable pub, pity, it’s such a beautiful location

We came here on Friday for dinner. The staff are lovely and made us feel extremely welcome! We were sat on a small table opposite a window. It was a little cold so having the fire on would have been great! However we didn't ask them to turn it on so it's definitely just an observation and not a criticism. We ordered the sausages and a burger. We also had the loaded fries accompanied by an order of blue cheese sauce. The food arrived quickly and was yummy! The sausages were our favourite, but we felt that the burger was average. Our waitresses were lovely but they did forget some of our items when bringing the food and I did have to ask for them. However, the servers were apologetic and the items came super quickly. Our only issue was that the loaded fries were bland and the food could definitely have been warmer. We would definitely go back but I think we would order different things.

Every single person was happy with their food (even the picky kids!) There was a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and we felt comfortable letting the kids run off some steam outside between courses. Looking forward to our next event at the Lock Keeper.

We had a lovely dinner in the conservatory area. Staff were friendly and attentive. Had three courses including the fish pie special, all very tasty. Bathrooms were clean. Good access by bike from the B2B cycle path - one short section of busy road but you can walk your bike along the pavement there if necessary. We enjoyed the buzzy but relaxed weekend atmosphere, and will definitely be back!

Great pint of Otter. Burger and bacon not far behind on sunny but cool September on the veranda.

Nice, sunny cafe style farm shop. Only had coffee n cake so cannot comment on full menu. Plenty of parking and outdoor seating. No WiFi.

Really poor, bland food. Like it’s all just been bought from a supermarket and microwaved. Don’t really understand the appeal of this place but I suppose there are a lack of options in Downend. If this place was in Bristol it just wouldn’t compete.

The graceful driveway after entering through the main gate leads you to a wonderful visage over the beautiful Somerset countryside, the Bristol channel, Severn bridges and the wonderful spectre of the high ground of South Wales in the background. The parking facilities, entrance and reception are welcoming, well decorated and maintained. The staff are efficient, polite and very helpful. A great place to play golf, meet up with colleagues and enjoy the wonderful facilities. All just one turn from the Cribbs Causeway turnoff.

The food and service has declined over the years and could do with a bit of a shake up and get things improved and back to what I would expect from this group
