I had lunch with my family, it's been about 40 years since I was last here and it hasn't changed much. The service was excellent and the menu choices were very good. It was busy, fortunately there was room for us, we didn't have too long for meals to arrive after ordering. A great pub with a great atmosphere.

It’s supposed to be a pub… They are clearing up at ten o’clock, they ask if you want another drink at 10:30 and they are kicking you out at 11:00 on the button. This makes people feel uncomfortable and only wanted for their money (got your money now leave). The landlord and landlady are not very warm towards people either unless they are their best mates… Simple for me, I shan’t go but neither are my friends either who made the same observations as I have…

I had braised beef in a red wine & onion gravy with new potatoes and several fresh veg with a bread and butter pudding & custard to follow! Excellent value at £11.50 for 2 course! My husband had a 5oz gammon steak with all the trimmings - again excellent value! Woukd highly recommend this pub!

We had visited for food a couple of times recently, and thought it would be nice to visit again with family. We went on a Sunday lunch time, and it was very busy, so busy that we were sat like sardines in a tin. The pub was also very noisy, not good for us that have 2 people with hearing aids as they cannot hear very well. We ordered our food, and waited, and waited, after nearly an hour I asked where our lunch was as there were 2 insulin dependent diabetics on our table. The waiter was quite abrupt, no apology and said it wasn't his fault. After lunch my sister in law said there were no roast potatoes on her plate, but felt we had waited long enough so did not complain. A very disappointing time was had by all. Probably ok if you like noisy, cramped surrounding while eating.

Having read The Anchor Inn reviews and studied their website, prior to booking and having driven from South Wales and Cornwall respectively, we were all really looking forward to our visit and to our lunch. However,to say that we were disappointed is an absolute understatement! The four of us ordered the pie of the day(x2),the lasagne and the ham,egg and chips( the gammon steak was unavailable),respectively. Both beef and ale pies were in actual fact, extremely dry slices of pie, with absolutely no gravy visible whatsoever! Our friend’s lasagne was cold but her husband’s ham,egg and chips was at least edible. Just. On returning home we re-read The Anchor Inn reviews and wondered if we had actually visited the wrong pub. We hadn’t. This was our first visit to The Anchor Inn. It will be our last.

I essentially grew up in this pub in my teenage years and 20s and came back here to have a meal with my parents some 20 years later. The decor basically hasn't changed since the mid 90s at least, but the atmosphere in this pub has always been very cosy, welcoming and modest. The food I had (the bacon burger) was really nice, tasty simple pub grub and good value too. Gets 5 stars not just for the nostalgia then.

The Anchor is fast becoming our favourite place to eat. There is always a warm welcome from every member of the team, the bar/restaurant is bright and clean with still a cosy traditional feel. In the past two months we have been for lunch on two occasions, an evening meal last week and today their superb Sunday lunch with a choice of four meats and every item you would hope for on a Sunday roast all piping hot and cooked to perfection. The fruit crumble and sticky toffee pudding were equally delicious and we can’t wait to return as every meal has been of an excellent quality at sensible prices. We’re not beer drinkers but if you like a choice of draught ales this is the place for you! Congratulations to all the Anchor team for what must be the best pub for miles around!

We were looking for a quiet pub close to the M5 to meet our new rescue/rehome pup for the first time. The Anchor was perfect! Lovely, friendly service, a good value menu, and a quiet, contained beer garden. Not a gastropub, a community pub - plenty of locals in for breakfast and lots of A4 posters about what's happening in Thornbury. When you don't want flashy menus and hiked up prices, you can't beat a real local... And our new pup was very welcome.

Ive been here a fair few times and looks like I forgot to write my last review. So, a quick shout out to something that happened over Covid a good year ago. I was there when a family popped in and unfortunately one of their children stood in dog mess, which was inside. I appreciate The Anchor did as much as they can to apologise (I overheard they had free drinks, and after the Mum complained they even washed their wellies - personally with COVID around I wouldn't want to touch other peoples property, so fair play to the young lad behind the bar for risking that). He was wearing gloves when he handed back the welly (I saw her comment further down here wondering if he washed his hands) and I also saw him reach for the sanitiser the minute he went back behind the bar. Just shows how disgusting customers are who let their dog do that, and then don't tell the staff. So fair play to the pub for dealing with all that. We ate here that time, and since then we've enjoyed the garden on a sunny afternoon with our little one. It's lovely. The garden is gorgeous, and the various ales on draft is a great option too. Staff are friendly, and chatty. We also had a breakfast here, and that was really lovely too. So thank you! We'll come back regularly. Overall, its an old fashioned warm pub, perfect for a pint or comfort food.

On visiting Thornbury, we decided to try The Anchor. On walking into the premises, I could have been mistaken for stepping back to 1980s, interior is very tired and worn. After purchasing our drinks from a miserable landlord, we went out into the beer garden, and it was not the quiet country pub I was expecting. There were very young children running riot, completely unsupervised. One table of customers were playing their own music through a speaker. But most alarming of all, was witnessing in the lower tiered part of the garden, in board daylight, drug deals taking place. This pub is not as described.

There was a nice atmosphere as we walked in, not too many people, but warm and inviting. We were shown to the table we had booked by a pleasant server who immediately offered us drinks. We then ordered our food - ham eggs and chips (fab) and burger with trimmings (also great). The cod special received a thumbs up also. I played The Bristol yesterday as a last minute booking and was very impressed with both the service and the condition of the course. I turned up roughly and hour early for my tee time because i had to drop my dad off for an operation at Southmead. The very nice lady in the pro shop got me off about 40 minutes earlier and I had a really enjoyable round. This was made even more enjoyable by the 2 groups if ladies in front of me who allowed me through on both the 6th and 8th holes. If I was playing at my home course, I'd have been stuck behind them all day, so I was was very grateful for them allowing me through. They are a credit to the golf club. I will be definitely visiting again soon providing the wet weather holds off.

Fantastic food, we had the festive menu and service great too. A very minor point, we paid for extra stuffing -£5 for 3 tiny stuffing balls, I felt they were overpriced
