Four of us stopped here for a hearty breakfast before embarking on a day of ale and Als Diner served up a great stomach liner. Although not the most aesthetically pleasing, AL’s Diner cooks basic ingredients to perfection. Poached eggs were a winner and we recommend the boxing ring special, crumpets on a breakfast works a treat. Nice service. A solid 4 star establishment.

Walked in the pub where the owner/landlady was smoking outside. Not a great first impression. Went in to be told they were only doing roasts. At 1.15 they only had 2 chicken left. We ordered and sat out side with our drinks. The waitress called us in to a very empty restaurant area where are meals were on the table. Lots of roast potatoes and some meat. We asked when veg was coming out to be told the had run out of veg the night before!!!!! We couldn’t believe it! We told them we didn’t want it. The landlady/owner did offer us to take meals free of charge but that wasn’t the point. We have been before but the fantastic chef they had has left! We’ll never go back. Needs a complete revamp and new chef!

Disappointing, embarrassing, diabolical service we experienced on bank holiday Sunday (25th May) completely soured what should have been a special occasion for my family. I had pre-booked a table for midday and paid a £10pp deposit for our afternoon tea. We were ignored for around 15 minutes in the seated area queue while takeaway customers were continuously served before we eventually flagged someone down who wasn’t avoiding eye contact, to find there was no record of our booking in the diary. At no point did we receive an apology from any of the staff. The young waiting staff were directionless, and seemed unable to prioritise anything except the stream of takeaway customers. Thankfully, a table was available for us, although it was not in the requested area near the play kitchen for our little one that I had tried to reserve. The table was set up for us while we sat, but no drink order was taken. It then took a further 35 minutes until 12:50 for our drinks order to be taken (after flagging down 2 people), which only arrived after our food did at 1pm. Trying to order a cold can of Pepsi, we were told that the policy for drinks had changed and cans of drink were no longer included on the afternoon tea menu, even though the menu on the table still stated otherwise. As a gesture of goodwill given the mix up, it would have been appreciated to still offer us a cold drink instead of hot beverages or juice. The service overall was chaotic and poorly managed. When we arrived at midday, staff were clearly overwhelmed by the takeaway queue and ignored seated customers trying to get their attention. By 1pm, the café was noticeably quieter, however the atmosphere was completely lacking. We overheard a hen party of 4 leaving, saying their experience had been terrible, and the table next to us walked out after waiting, entirely ignored. The queue for the toilet was also enormous at times with people snaking around the tables which doesn’t make for a particularly nice atmosphere. It was also absolutely baking hot. As someone in their later stage of pregnancy, I found it very uncomfortable. There is no air con. As someone who has previously enjoyed excellent service at the establishment, I was embarrassed to bring my family this time. While the food was plentiful and of good quality when it arrived, the entire experience was marred by the lack of service, apology, or any sense of priority.

Very impressed with the service received today from knowledgeable and helpful staff. As I am a coeliac I queried whether the chips were okay for me and the chef confirmed that they were not safe as other foods are cooked in the same fryer. I had a jacket potato instead and, as it turns out, this was a far better choice and I was glad I couldn't have the chips!! Really well cooked, very soft inside and lashings of butter, plus fried eggs cooked to perfection. The chef brought our food to the table and said she was a coeliac too and had taken extra care when preparing my meal. Fantastic experience so we'll definitely be back. I believe they offer gluten free cakes too but sadly I didn't have space to try one.

We booked this hotel because of the Italuan menu options in Marco's Restaurant. The hotel receptionist was extremely helpful and we have no complaints about the hotel room. We booked a meal in Marco's Restaurant, and when we got to our table, we were told there was a reduced menu as only one chef was in that night. The reduced menu was very limited and frankly unacceptable, given that it trades on Marco Pierre White's name. We were extremely disappointed and as a result of the reduced menu, we reluctantly decided not to eat in the restaurant. We would recommend the hotel, but recommend avoiding the restaurant.

I visited this bar to eat with friends and did everything you are advised to do by a discount card I have and was abused by a senior member of staff in front of friends. Gross bad management. I will never set foot in this place again and would not recommend this establishment!
