What can I say amazing.2nd visit brought my kids and daughters bf. Great food service amazingly very help and friendly. Oh and their cakes are amazing. Please do visit them.

Have heard many complements about this establishment, and finally, we had a chance to visit today. Unfortunately, we arrived about half an hour before closing time (2pm) so only had a drink. The menu has a good variety of meals and prices seem very reasonable . Staff were very friendly and the seating area was nice and clean. We will certainly make a returned visit.

I regularly visit Leyhill Cafe. Good choice of hot and cold food and homemade cakes. Very reasonably priced. Staff are friendly and attentive. Recently had a birthday cake made by the talented Teresa. It was a hit with the birthday girl. Looked and tasted fabulous.

I have enjoyed going to this Coffee Shop for a while now at lunch time. Today is my 85th birthday and. I had arranged to have a small lunch, party (10 people). The food was fantastic, beautifully prepared and laid out. The Manageress is a superb and talented cook as is the chef. The staff are amazing, polite and extremely helpful. I am really running out of superlatives. This place is incredible - try it!

Choice of indoor and outdoor tables. Good selection of breakfsts and daily specials, we called in for a late breakfast. Food was well cooked and hot when it arrived, delivered by a friendly staff member. Overall can't fault it as a reasonably priced, friendly cafe. Well worth calling in if you are in the area.

Honestly the best breakfast we've had in a long time! Our waiters and the chef were outstanding, continually checking to make sure we had the best experience. We did! Definitely recommend and we will be back there again.

Me estaba quedando en el hotel Tortworth y asistía a un curso de trabajo. No tenía coche, pero estaba muy agradecido por este café. Están abiertos de 07:00 a 14:00, el personal es muy amable y fue genial charlar con ellos todas las mañanas para recoger mi pedido de almuerzo. Hay una gran variedad de artículos para elegir, un día comí papa asada y sándwiches para los demás. Los precios son muy rentables, pero eso no significa que no consigas algo sabroso, me impresionó y se lo recomendaría a cualquiera en la zona.

Excellent stop for brunch for a group of hungry cyclists on a wet day. Staff were really helpful and even put our wet clothes on radiators to dry out. The breakfast was great value for money; £5 including a hot drink!

Puedo confirmar que las críticas son bien merecidas. El ambiente es un poco básico y el estacionamiento puede ser difícil, pero la comida y el servicio son excelentes. Los hombres que sirven son reclusos y son encantadores y extremadamente educados y serviciales. Al trabajar en la cafetería, han adquirido habilidades que los ayudarán a ser liberados (me lo han dicho con mucho orgullo). Los desayunos son un verdadero 10/10. Gran valor, bien presentado y con ingredientes de buena calidad. Esta fue una empresa social dirigida por Weston College, pero ahora está siendo tomada por la prisión. Tiene leche de soja.Podría servir para catering sin gluten, sin lácteos, etc. Este café está un poco alejado de todo, pero está rodeado de un paisaje encantador y vale la pena conducir.

Escuchamos que este lugar era bueno, así que apareció para almorzar con dos adultos y dos niños. El servicio fue excepcional. El personal muy amable se comprometió con los niños y adultos. La comida era fresca, excelentes raciones y muy sabroso. Ambiente cálido y confortable. ¡Volveré! !

No hubo nada malo con el servicio o la comida, sin embargo, no fue hasta que volvimos a casa que leí sobre la prisión abierta en Wickapedia, y descubrí que una alta proporción de los reclusos estaban cumpliendo una condena por delitos sexuales de uno u otro Sé que cada uno es propio, pero si hubiéramos sabido esto antes de ir allí, no creo que nos hubiéramos ido. Como dije, cada uno es suyo.

Went for lunch with a group of lovely ladies on Thursday 19th September. What a treat, we had excellant service from Paul and Barbara, and although we all choose different dishes all the food was delicious, arrived at the same time and was very reasonably priced. A real feeling of positivity and being looked after. Will definitly be going back. A big well done to everyone.

Our first visit today, we popped in on our return from Cribbs Causeway. Lovely jacket potatoes with plenty of filling, nice selection of breakfasts and lunches, all at a good price.

Staying next-door at Tortworth Court! Called in for a snack! Run by inmates! Lovely surroundings and a pleasant atmosphere! A ray of positiveness!

I organised a surprise buffet lunch for my 3 young nieces for their birthday. The food was tasty and plentiful, the milkshakes I was told were the 'best ever' and a 10/10, the service was great. I ordered a chocolate birthday cake, which was really good.

This coffee shop is just amazing. The value for money is unbelievable, the food is honestly better than most hotels I have stayed in. If your in the area I would highly recommend popping in even just for a coffee, please don't let the fact it is HMP put you off, the lads working there have my upmost respect for working in there, and the tall guy with glasses behind the counter is one of the most friendliest guys I have ever met, as are the lads in the kitchen please try it before you make a judgement, hats off to all the guys that work there, well done lads, be proud, your making a coffee shop excellent. I had a pizza today and struggled to finish it, it was better than any take away pizza for a fraction of the cost.

Usually go here for their breakfast but their menu has many other options that include vegetarian and low calories. Their cakes are excellent, all in all really good value.

I had the privilege of being served by Kaye and her band of merry men on a daily (often twice daily...ahem) basis whilst at Leyhill, and can honestly say they are friendliest and most hardworking team who wanted nothing but to keep our two sections happy and full with coffee and cake. The crew are talented cake makers and make the best breakfast bap I've ever had in my life. The only thing I regret about attending this cafe is the few pounds of weight I gained during my training thanks to the goodies on sale..! I'll be back for a visit very soon no doubt. Hi to all!

Lovely atmosphere, brilliant attitude from staff, good quality food, freshly prepared. Clean and welcoming.

Unsure of what to expect but encouraged by others' reviews, we were delighted with our visit. The manager and all of her staff were equally welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere is relaxed and good humoured and the coffee and cakes excellent. We returned for lunch with a friend and again had attentive and friendly staff serve us, nothing was to much trouble and we'll certainly be back again when we are next in the area.

Popped in this morning and had an all day breakfast, we had a standard and a large. Great portion size, very good quality ingredients, paid extra to have a latte rather than filter coffee - very good quality coffee.

On my first visit I was greeted by one of the inmates at the prison who was very polite and helpful. I will admit it was a little daunting at first, the thought of being inside the prison grounds etc but that was soon forgotten.

Went for all day breakfast with my dad and kids today. The food was great. My daughter loved her milkshake. We all liked our breakfasts and the chocolate cake was amazing. We’ve come twice now and both times have been very good. The staff (mostly serving inmates) are friendly and welcoming, checking with you through out the meal and offering to top up tea, coffee etc. Would recommend the large breakfast, two nice thick rashers of bacon, two fried eggs, two hash browns, two pieces of toast, two sausages, two pieces of black pudding and a tomato, all for exceptional value. The fried items aren’t greasy at all and the bacon is cooked on griddle so has nice char lines. Definitely going to be going back fairly regularly. Would recommend to all.

Had an excellent referral from an old friend so had to try it. Went during weekday afternoon so was quite quiet. Great shame - it should be full to capacity all day. Prices are very low for quality of the food.

Really good standard breakfast for £5 including tea. Wish I'd gone for the full brekkie once i tasted it. Tea,coffee,breakfast,comfort and breakfast all good. Needs free wifi though .

Visited the cafe today and what an amazing little place it is. Food was fantastic, great value for money and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Great to be able to support the rehabilitation of prisoners. A real hidden gem. Can't wait for it to open at weekends so I can bring the family.

Visited this cafe for breakfast.It is an establishment open to the public .It is just outside Leyhill open prison grounds & is run by prisoners..The food was good,the service was speedy & the cafe & toilets are clean.Paul & Shane served us & they were very polite & friendly.A full English breakfast with toast ,butter & filter coffee cost £5.We were so pleased, we,went back the day after .It is open 8.30a.m.- 3p.m. & also serves lunch & a variety of snacks & drinks.

This is the best breakfast at the best price in the Thornbury area. Spotlessly clean and good service. The breakfasts are well cooked and not at all greasy. This shouldn’t be confused with another cafe nearby. This one is actually by the gatehouse of Leyhill

Great welcome, friendly staff and excellent food. Everyone is made to feel welcome. No one is rushed, you can take your time, chat and rest up. An excellent place to stop, its about a minute from the M5. Junction 14.

We stopped here for brunch on our way from Bristol to Cheltenham - what a find! The staff of the coffee shop are mainly residents of HMP Leyhill, training in various aspects of the catering business. We both opted for the breakfast which was freshly prepared and delicious, a generous size portion at a very reasonable price. The counter staff on that day, Paul and Shan, were welcoming and helpful. Paul in particular was keen to explain the ethos of “Grounds” which we found very interesting. Altogether an enjoyable experience. I wish that more HMPs could do this.

A mile or so from J14 of the M5, this unusual little coffee shop-cum-restaurant is well worth a short detour. On the occasions we have called in, we haven't been blessed by an immediately adjacent parking spot - staff at the adjacent prison officer training unit reputedly usually fill those - but it's easy enough to drop off a passenger if necessary and drive the car 150 yards or so to the large, prison visitors' car park (free!).

Christmas meal for 4. Staff all very welcoming as usual. All food beautifully cooked, generous portions, well presented and a Christmas card too, which was a lovely touch. Excellent value for money, one of the best Christmas meals out we’ve had.

Six of us booked Christmas lunch today. Made to feel really welcome. Everything had been thought of including a Christmas card. Good choice of food beautifully presented. Enormous helpings. You have to book in advance with choices. It is a nice place to come for coffee. My husband found it on one of his bike rides

A friend recommended we go here for breakfast and it was fantastic. Really good value for money. Lovely coffee. And the food was great. Came out really quick and the chef explained he was trying out some new bubble and squeak - and it was good! Made the breakfast! Everyone was so friendly and chatty. Will definitely be back and can’t stop telling my friends about it!

This was my second visit but my first breakfast at Leyhill Grounds Coffee Shop. We went to meet up with a group of friends from our motorcycle club. Despite us all descending on them en masse they coped very well. We all got our breakfasts and drinks quickly. Couldn't fault the service. Will definitely be returning for another visit.

I stopped off enroute and had an excellent lunch - sweet and sour pork with rice and then apple tart. Delicious! Very efficient Paul and Jon at the front and great looking and well equipped kitchen. So clearly the cafe the premises could handle greater activity and increase takings. Why not open at weekends? Brilliant! Thank you

My first time visiting Hmp Leyhill cafe and I will definitely be back. Food was fantastic such good value for money. Paul & Jonathon aimed to please us during our visit. What an assett to your team. We even booked our Christmas lunch at the same time. I can't recommend this cafe enough. The men that work here work so hard and should pride themselves on the great friendly service that they provided us with. We will be back again soon. Big thumbs up to you all.

Having been a prison visitor at Leyhill for over 26 years before retiring and having attended services in the chapel with my wife since 1994 the place has become very dear to me particularly because I have found it a privilege to meet so many remarkable people there.

I recently visited this cafe with friends . Firstly my congratulations on this lovely cafe offering the facility to have coffee on the grounds , brilliant idea much needed .

The Coffee Shop is a delight - 2 rooms, bright, light with a great atmosphere. I had a delicious Flat White, followed by the lunch Special of Sausages on a bed of mash with caramelised onion. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. I recommend a visit, good value for money too

Coffee shop is staffed by inmates of Leyhill Open Prison. The atmosphere is convivial and the service excellent. It is well worth the effort to seek out the venue which is not obvious to find. Food is tasty and well- presented.

I passed Leyhill Grounds a couple of weeks ago, only live a couple of miles away but didn’t realise it was there and open to the public. Today we visited and discovered it is a gem of a place. Staff are really friendly and didn’t mind me taking a while to decide which of the tasty looking cakes to have. They did tell me they were all yummy, and they weren’t wrong! I opted for the brownie and it was warmed for me....it’s definitely one of the best I’ve ever had. Hubby had a panini and the coffee/walnut cake......both again very tasty and, along with very nice coffees, all delivered to our table. We will definitely be back (we need to try the cooked breakfast!)......hopefully it’ll be opening on Saturdays, if so it’ll give us more opportunity to visit.

Recently had the opportunity to work with my Ex-students and the rest of the team to oversee the production of a buffet for an employers fayre. Both Front of House and Back of House were professional, motivated and completed the work to an extremely high standard. I am so proud of these guys, they didn't let me, college or Kaye down. The whole event ran so smoothly with great feedback from so many people.

Very friendly, helpful service with a smile... Milkshake wasn't on the menu, but they kindly made me one, and it was amazing... Lovely food and presentation at a very reasonable rate, and a very prompt service... The specials are recommended.

Went to HMP Leyhill for a job interview which finished sooner than anticipated. The staff pointed me in the direction of Leyhill Grounds coffee shop to wait for my lift to arrive. My intention was to relax with a coffee and finish my book. I was immediately made welcome by the staff, receiving service with a smile - (which is a must for me). We put the world to rights, had a giggle and good conversation. My lift was late and I was glad, in fact I didn't even realise how late until I was well on the way home. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and to be honest could have stayed until closing time. I was made to feel very welcome. It's clean; light; nicely decorated; homely; efficient service; friendly staff; comfy seating; the customer service is second to none; well done to everyone that was there (06/09/18-pm) and thank you. (If I could give more than 5* I would). Having recently moved to the area and trying to locate a coffee shop I like; this a winner, a proper hidden gem. Just a pity I don't live closer and if I am ever in the area again or (fingers crossed) I get offered the job I will visit as often as I can. The coffee was excellent too and I never even thought about reading my book either....

Very friendly and polite staff who served most delicious food - the special of the day was exceptional . A good varied menu along with a great choice of herbal teas - so if you are in the area Monday - Friday - definitely worth a visit.

Called in at Leyhill grounds coffee shop today and it's a must visit huge thank you to Paul for getting my coffee spot on The chocolate brownie was the best I have eaten We also had bacon rolls and they were very good huge thank you to Shafique for the first class service. The coffee shop is lovely and clean the staff are lovely and friendly nothing is to much trouble for them . I would go there again as they have a lovely menu prices you can't fault .

I was in the area last week and on the recommendation of my sister stopped here for breakfast. What a delight. Met by really friendly staff and opted for the small breakfast. Had a chat with the staff whilst food was being prepared. Breakfast arrived, it was far from small, and I ate the lot. I only wish I had had room for some of the delicious looking home made cakes. Very reasonable prices and everything on the menu sounded yummy. Am back next month so will definitely be taking breakfast here again.
