Our favourite restaurant in Seaton which has now unfortunately shut down which is very sad. We loved all the food, especially the dirty fries which are epic. They had a great selection of beers including Elvis juice which is my favourites.
Good luck to the owner ( chef ) and his Dad who does front of house in whatever the do in the future.
Ordered takeaway from here to Cranbrook. It was great! They threw in complementary poppadoms too. Very quick service. Sad we hadn't discovered them sooner!
If you’re ever in Sidmouth and looking for a cozy spot with incredible food and even better service, look no further than Selley’s! Julia and Richard have truly created a hidden gem that has quickly become my favourite café in town. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that makes you feel right at home. The food is absolutely fantastic – fresh, flavorful, and crafted with care.
But what truly sets Selley’s apart is Richard’s homemade ginger cake. It’s nothing short of divine – moist, perfectly spiced, and the perfect balance of sweetness and warmth. You can tell it’s made with love and expertise.
Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or spending a relaxing afternoon, the food and service at Selley’s never disappoint. A true Sidmouth treasure, and I can’t recommend it enough!
At a time when we should be supporting local businesses, I feel really upset writing a damning review, but it's also at a time when you want value for money and good customer service.
We will not be returning and we certainly will not be recommending to friends.
The customer service was mixed depending on what you asked, the portion sizes were tiny, and not that tasty, definitely not worth the money.
No soft edges with candle light or music, no complimentary welcome drink on the weekend before Christmas, before you even start to unpick an overpriced, underwhelming menu!
Came away almost in shock with the experience, to then read some reviews saying it the best restaurant in Exmouth, ... er no! The most bizarre.
I wish the owners success, and I hope that they can reignite the passion for their restaurant, because the spark wasn't there on our visit.
The staff absolutely make this place. Warm, welcoming, efficient. We only went for a night but we felt so recharged and relaxed. Couldn't have asked for better weather, peaceful and quiet. Expansive grounds and ponds. Food in the restaurant was a real treat! So delicious, great portion size and value for money. Lovely family rooms with two separate rooms conjoining. Absolute perfection.
Clean, well presented, really Friendly staff with a good of drinks, ice creams and cakes. I went with a luxury hot chocolate and marshmallow cake, my daughter had blueberry cheesecake and milkshake made with her choice of fresh ice cream made on the premises snd my boring husband had a pot of tea, which he topped off with a not so boring banana cake. It was all delicious and the best find of the day
Lovely food and drinks and great service. Although busy we were seated quickly and everything came together and piping hot. Serving staff were so kind and treated our dog with care too.
Visited on Valentines Day.
After travelling just a little over two hours in awful conditions, we arrived at The Bowd just after 8pm. We checked the food serving times and the website said it finishes at 8:30. We entered and asked the young barman if we could still have some food. He came back from checking in the kitchen followed by an older lady (we now know this is the landlady Carol!) She was so lovely and said it was absolutely fine for food and showed us to a small corner table next to a huge open fireplace. We ordered 2 burgers both with added cheese and bacon and a portion of onion rings. The food came out in a timely manner and I must say the burger was amazing! So tasty and very filling! A generous amount of chips accompanied the burger with a lovely small salad & a pot of coleslaw. It was one of the best pub burgers myself and my husband had ever had. We were told after our plates weee cleared that we were able to order dessert so we ordered a mango cheesecake and an apple crumble with custard. Both pleasant desserts.
It was then getting on towards 9:30 when Carol said that she was going home but we were not to rush as the remaining staff would be busy cleaning etc. We didn’t want to outstay our welcome so finished our drinks and left.
Carol was so friendly and accommodating for myself and husband.
We will most definitely be visiting for food again when we’re next in Sidmouth.
Very, very good!
What a find! Turned up without a booking but was seated immediately. Friendly staff and the "best burger I've ever eaten" according to another member of our party. Going to an independent restaurant can sometimes be a gamble but this one absolutely paid off. Clean bathrooms, friendly and attentive service and great food. An absolute winner.
