A fantastic place to spend a few days. The hotel is dog friendly and they don't charge for dogs. The extensive grounds are ideal for walking the dog and then you can proceed to the bar for a refresher or an evening meal (providing you booked in advance) and the pooch is welcome to join you. The hotel also offers a bookable afternoon cream tea. Unfortunately the weather during our stay was not great but our room was comfortable and the free WiFi worked perfectly. A kettle, Tea and coffee and bottle of water were provided in the room along with an iron and board, a hairdryer and a portable fan

We stayed in stable 3, which has a stable door which allows for plenty of fresh air and light. The window also opened wide which was nice during the night. The emergency light above the door was VERY bright green and lit up most of the room throughout the night. The bathroom was big, but the water pressure was very low in the shower and the curtain in front of the sizeable window was very see through, though it backs onto green with limited to no access (I think and hope). The bed was comfortable, I appreciated the bottle of water and the facility to make coffee. The breakfast options of freshly cooked food were good, but there was very limited food available otherwise during breakfast, there was no fresh fruit or yogurt, only cereal and milk, alongside apple or orange juice. Breakfast was included in our stay, but I would not have paid the £15 for it that is charged if it isn't included.

We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub everyday which was private and peaceful. We had a meal at the main restaurant and the food was really nice. All the staff we met were friendly and attentive. We look forward to coming back.

This hotel - which it once was - is now at the entrance to a very large lodge park there will be over 60 when the last phase is complete. The hotel itself still has a small kitchen and a small bar some of which doubles as a reception, the dining rooms are small with a larger conservatory area to dine in too. The basic hotel infrastructure, in our opinion, cannot support walk ins and lodge residents it is just creaking at the seams. We have stayed at this hotel over the years but will not do so again. There is a surreal “dog friendly” policy, this includes all public areas at all times so if you want to have a drink, or eat breakfast, lunch and dinner surrounded by dogs then it may be for you, we prefer not to - there are no dog free zones one has to ask the question what about “human friendly” as a policy! Bear in mind that 3 dogs per owner seems to be the new normal. The food is OK nothing special. Most (but not all) staff are helpful and friendly. Our room (one of the few that did not take dogs) was nice, overlooking the lake but also all the traffic entering and leaving the site. This once tranquil Devon country retreat is now something quite different. It is also quite a way from anywhere else to go for a drink or a meal in the area.

All in all, exceedingly good. The surroundings in the orangery were lovely and the staff were all very friendly. Jerrod, the head chef was very accommodating to my friend whose dog managed to bag a little leftover meat (which was far too good for a dog in my opinion 😊). He was also unapologetic for his cauliflower and broccoli cheese which he enthusiastically described as "a revelation". I could not disagree at all. I will certainly be returning because it's well worth the trip from London.

We ate here three times in the evening and once for breakfast and each meal was really excellent. The fillet steak was truly one of the best I’ve ever had! The menu is relatively small but there are some great dishes to explore. To top it all they serve hand-pulled ale (one of three varieties of Otter when we stayed this week). We booked and were glad we did, if you stay in a lodge you may not get a table on the night.

We came to Lakeview again this year to celebrate our wedding anniversary, as we have done for the last 9 years, since getting married at Lakeview in 2012. The restaurant and bar area have recently undergone a major refurbishment and it is absolutely lovely. The menu has also been changed and looks incredible. We opted for stuffed mushrooms, followed by fillet steak. Both were absolutely delicious. The fillet steak, in particular, was cooked to perfection by the brilliant chef, Jerod. The best we have EVER had. The quality of the meat was exceptional. Highly recommended. The waiting staff are also brilliant, very attentive and professional. In fact, the whole team at Lakeview are extremely friendly and work hard to make your stay the most enjoyable it can be. The venue is still as stunning and beautiful as it was when we got married 9 years ago. It's so tranquil and relaxing. You can also dine looking out over the beautiful grounds. Well worth a visit.

We decided to book a meal out rather than cook at home and took a chance on this place. Julie, the manager took our booking and was there to welcome us when we arrived. The restaurant was well laid out with people eating and chatting away. We placed our drinks order and then went for to get our meal. The meat was fantastic, perfectly cooked (to out tastes) and was carved into slices that were very generous. Thank you chef! A wonderful selection of veg / potatoes and sundries to go with it which were cooked brilliantly. The meal was as tasty as it looked and filled me up completely. The staff were courteous, efficient and to top it off well presented. As well as fantastic food and service, the location of this place is wonderful. In September of 2016 we gave this place 5* ....and it deserved it!However "changes" seem to have been made, and we have deleted our review. This place is above 3*** Average, but now is perhaps not QUITE up to the 4**** we have chosen. We visited last year as a small family, and were so upset by the quality of the fare that the Manager reduced our bill. We were told that they had a "new chef" , so we assumed that things might get better. They have not.On our last visit one evening, none of us were really "happy" and we did not stay for dessert. The fish was "OK" but the vegetables left a lot top be desired. There is a difference between "under-cooked" and "al dente"! If we had wanted raw vegetables, we would have asked for salads!Dauphinoise Potatoes usually contains cream, but ours were like dry slices of cooked potato pushed into a mouldThe prices seem to be much higher too! No longer the excellent value ...especially if you leave most of it.We left disappointed. It may be some time before we revisit.Perhaps Lunch is still OK?

Well we was pleasantly surprised. Having read some of the other reviews. I was a little worried. We had a most enjoyable evening. We were greeted by really nice staff. The place was lovely and friendly. The food was second to none. My starter of goats cheese ( hubby had the squid) was divine. My loin of pork was gorgeous. Hubby's steak he said was the best he had, had in ages. Having eaten all that I thought I'd have the champagne jelly. That never touched the sides. It was scrumptious. I can't fault this place at all. Nothing was too much trouble. I shall tell my friends & neighbours. Who I know haven't visited before. I look forward to going again. I will also add that being fairly new to the area we have eaten in quite a few places both locally and further afield. All have been either disappointing or nothing special. We both were very impressed with the customer service and the food this evening. So thank you Lake View Manor for making our Valentines a lovely & memorable evening.❤

We had a family lunch, eight of us, plus a two year old, on August Bank Holiday Monday. Having only booked it at breakfast time - having eyed the lunchtime special menu, we considered ourselves lucky to get in there - even more so having actually sampled the quality of the food served. At £12.95 for a two course, £15.95 for three, in such beautiful surroundings, one tends not to expect too much of the service or food, here that is an entirely erronious assumption. The menu is English, perhaps with a more generous choice than you would expect, in our party the roast pork and scampi proved particularly popular, both proving to be "best of breed" in terms of presentation, flavour and value. Some of us had starters, some sweets, all portions were generous and we did not have a dud dish between us - eight entirely satisfied diners is good going, especially when, including a few (mostly non-alcoholic) drinks the total bill came to less than £140.In keeping with the surroundings and food was the service, professional, friendly and at the same time unobtrusive, all in all this proved to be a fantastic "eating out" experience.

Este es un pequeño y alejado de todo, en un entorno excusite. El domingo carvary estaba bien presentada, con excelente servicio de los camareros. After having driven by it on many occasions during our two, week stay at a nearby cottage, we decided to follow the sign to the Lakeview Manor to see what it was like but expecting just a pub off the main Langford Road. We were very pleasantly surprised to see a lovely looking building amidst a beautiful setting of gardens with two small lakes and fountains. I booked dinner for the following night. The food was excellent as was the service. Despite there being a wedding reception at Lakeview at the same time as our dinner reservation, we were seated in a quiet area with good views over the gardens. What a pity we hadn't followed the sign earlier. We would have dined there more often.

We called in for what we hoped was a special breakfast at about 9.15 a.m on a Friday morning. The tinned fruit of the buffet table was virtually gone and there was no effort to fill it up; tables were not clean with no tablecloths and thin paper napkins We were never asked if everything was okay and not given the option of a top up of tea or coffee. The "full English breakfast" consisted of only one piece of bacon and one sausage and it was certainly not a cheap experience.

Yes a bit tricky to find, but well worth it. What a warm and friendly greeting we got. Lovely room although not ensuite the other room was blocked off..just for us then! Not the modern trendy stuff you get everywhere, but fitted in with the age of the building nicely. Comfy bed, quiet night, and a very reasonable rate for the two of us. Then we had dinner, wonderful, ham hock terrine, delicious and he loved his seafood platter. Then we both devoured the venison, superb, thick juicy, delicious berry sauce, followed by a pecan and maple croissant pudding which we shared...bit full by then. Well done chef and kitchen. Good wine choices. Lovely gardens to stroll in. Great breakfast. In fact there is not a lot to fault with this place, except for the dreaded internet connection and phone signal, but you are deep in the hills of Devon. Looking forward to our return.

I went to Lakeview for a meal a week before Christmas and had the Christmas dinner menu, the food was disappointing in that the turkey was from sliced turkey roll in stead of a properly prepared and the pudding was small and was impossible to change for another one because weeks before when I had chosen the food I fancied xmas pud then wanted another pudding instead, it caused so much hassle in the end I ate the original pudding. The prices are expensive for what you get, the drinks are expensive, the people staying as guest seem to get bigger and better looking meals served to them. The waiter was acting silly and immature going to people hitting you on arm pretending it was not hard. The heating was of cold and drafty.

Visited here on a Sunday with a large pre-wedding visit group. Beautiful winters day so we saw it at its best and it is a real gem. Let’s get the food out of the way first. I honestly cannot recall having a better carvery and I have had a few over the years. Really lovely choice of veg and none of your sloppy cauliflower cheese and no sign of broccoli!! Choice of three meats. I don’t normally go for beef but it was so beautifully cooked I couldn’t resist. Everything perfect even the cracking! (I know I didn’t have the pork but please don’t tell anyone!!)Starters looked really nice and a bit different but nobody plumped for these with most opting to sample the puds which again were faultless.Good choice of wine but I was very happy to see with a wedding on the horizon that they had really good choice of beer (Otter and Dartmoor) and ciders. The best thing about this place for me though was the staff. We were a group of 18 that at the last moment grew to 22 but the staff dealt with this without a murmur. They were extremely busy with another party of 40 but everything ran extremely smoothly. The chef was really good humoured and came over to see if everything was ok after the meal which was a really nice touch but seemed typical of the place. I can see why our friends chose this place. I can’t wait to spend two nights here in November but think we will be back for the carvery before then. In fact I know we will be back for the carvery before then!

After many times visiting the Sidmouth Arms and having a pretty positive option of the place, I have to say what a shame its now been turned into a cattle market for food. The recent overhaul of the interior is horrendous as the old charm that was there has now gone, with plain rooms of many tables and a new bar that looks like the reception of a huge corporate Hotel/Airport. The whole place feels like a large family and children café refer than an old village pub. Sunday menu is only limited to roast dinners or fish and chips that are pretty poor. Not a place to go for a nice atmospheric print anymore. Positives are the food is still reasonably cheap and mostly tasty and its always open for business and food and the garden is very present place in the summer.
