Our first visit and fantastic welcoming staff, very pet friendly Carvery was fresh and delicious Highly recommended Owners are past owner of the Saddlers (which is why we thought we would try it) Highly recommended

We visited on recommendation of others and were not disappointed. We all decided to have a carvery which was fresh and plentiful and exceptional value. The staff could not be more helpful and they are dog friendly in the village bar which is good news for us. Will definitely return

A hidden gem. Lovely, quirky old pub in the centre of the village. Very friendly and helpful staff. Landlady and landlord. Food was freshly cooked to order and was superb, hot and very tasty!! Really nice garden, plenty of seating with the extra benefit of access, through a gate, to village play park area. We will be back.

Arrived at lunchtime opening and were greeted warmly. One of our party had a dietary need and the server was very patient and found out the requested information. Venison burger from the specials board was epic. Cooked to perfection with home made coleslaw and delicious chips. The members of staff were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend.

Had a meal here tonight, menu looked great but I was very disappointed. Food was rubbish, staff and manager were rude and I was made to hunt around for a dog bowl and fill it up in the toilets. Kids running riot with no parents supervising, winding up the dogs etc. very bad experience would not revisit.

One of the nicest evenings out we've had in ages the meal we had was the best in a long time going back on Monday 12th to celebrate our wedding anniversary which is Friday 9th 🤗

Perhaps because it was a beautiful day, sat in a well maintained and decorated garden but the food tasted very good and the drinks lovely and cool all served with attentiveness and kindness

Just returned home from a lovely Sunday carvery at the White Hart with my husband and daughter. Excellent meal with lots of vegetable choices and succulent meats. I was well looked after with my gluten free diet; I had a gf Peroni, gf gravy and even the cauliflower cheese was gf which was a real treat. Friendly manager and staff and a lovely setting next to the village church. Fully recommend.

Great food and service 👌 Not extortionate like a lot of pubs seem to be getting. Very friendly staff and steady customers for a Monday night. They catered for gluten free. We had 3 courses, all good. The tomato soup was to die for!! 😋

Food was bland, potatoes so hard on top, difficult to eat, awful meal, left nearly all of it, object to paying full price for something so awful.especially as it was supposed to be a treat . Must add the lady who served us today was extremely pleasant and helpful. Have been here before and food was OK,

Excellent carvery, great value and really friendly staff. We have been hereon many occasions and it never ceases to please. The pub manager is very friendly as are the waitresses and the chef even when fully booked. Highly recommended

We came across this Pub during the Week. We had lunch on Tuesday. Then Thursday we had a meal and Friday Lunch before we headed home. Food is very nice. Nice Portions. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We shall be back on our next visit.

Came here for Sunday lunch. Wonderful carvery. Vast choice of menu if carvery isn't your choice. Excellent food, excellent service, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

If I could give the food rating more stars I would. Four hungry blokes dropped in on the off chance for lunch and they welcomed us with a smile. Will definitely be eating here again .

After travelling a long distance to meet friends, to find the pub we had booked to go to hadn't bothered to inform us that it was closed for food. On leaving, another party that had been treated the same, informed us of this pub. We had a good meal, enjoyed by all and excellent service, there was no suggestion that we had to leave when finished, so will come here again.

This pub is a hidden gem, the staff can't be more friendly and helpful, the food is good priced and all cooked to order, very very good and lots of it.

Absolutely shocking customer service! When we asked about dairy free food the waitress said I have no idea as I'm not one of them! We booked a table, and as soon as we sat down the waitress said we needed to order quickly as they have other customers. My daughter ordered a bacon cheese burger, when it was brought to the table the waitress explained that the chef had forgotten the cheese and bacon, she then said that the cheese and bacon was being prepared and would be served later, when she refused the food was taken back. This meant this was served after the rest of the dining party had finished. Then we were overcharged. Having paid for someone else's drinks. Had to return the next day for a refund, no apology was made. So I said we would not return, the waitress said thats fine!

Ran by frauds. A landlord with his favourites who are abusive to women in the village. Steve Mayo - you should be locked up. Avoid

Unprofessional staff drinking, hostile atmosphere and sexist remarks made to women. As a local resident, I won’t be entering the pub again

Visited this week while staying in the area. As we had four dogs, we sat in the lovely secure sunny garden. Inside was welcoming, with plenty of seating & a well stocked bar. My daughter had a sandwich, which was very well presented & she said very nice . Only disappointing thing about our visit, two of us had cloudy ales which the bar staff refused to change, saying the barrow had just been changed. Our first pint wasn't like it, this I feel is bad customer service & put a negative memory on our visit.

A friend and I had a pre-Christmas senior's lunch in the week. The food was delicious and nicely cooked and the service impeccable. Only down side of the senior's menu was the limited dessert choice. Three types of steamed pudding and one other choice. However the syrup sponge pudding and custard was very nice! It's a nice old pub with a good atmosphere and plenty of parking. I would go back and also recommend.

We hired the function room for our Christmas social, it was all round great, very good carvery, left us all very full

Had a late lunch here Sunday. Excellent fish pie served by very pleasant young lady. First visit since new owners but will certainly be back as carvery looked excellent.

Decent pub grub. Sat in rear garden which was quiet.

10 of us in a walking group had lunch there, the general feeling amongst the walkers was the food was fair to good, I ordered the hot chicken and bacon salad which was very disappointing a whole piece of chicken fried in one piece was tough and chewy, I cook this myself at home all you need is diced chicken breast small new potatoes chunks of ham or bacon + a bed of hearts of romaine lettuce all fried over a high heat with lashings of honey and mustard dressing added to the pan half a minute before tipping it all onto the bed of lettuce on the plate hope the chef reads this. lovely atmosphere in the pub and all the staff were very kind and helpful the 🍺 was good too recommend but give the chicken and bacon salad a miss

Found this pub on a quiet evening. The food was good, the staff friendly and efficient, and the prices reasonable. Would return if in area again. Easy parking as well!

Most excellent food, really high quality and served with smiles and much happiness. Brilliant value for money. If I had to find fault, no chairs outside only benches and my disabled wife cannot get into a bench table and pls don’t forget to tidy under tables as well as the top🤭 If in the area will be back.

Father's Day roast was the best roast ever for us. Lovely pub and restaurant, nice beer garden where we had lunch earlier in the week. Woodbury village is so picturesque and a short stroll from webbers Park where we were staying.

Lovely pub. Had the pie of the day - steak and kidney - and I have to say it might have been the best s&k pie I've ever had. Lovely staff too. I'll be coming back.

Booked in for valentine's meal £35 for 2 , great value , had our steak rare and it was perfect ,pepper corn sauce was perfect not over powering or large bits of pepper , brilliant. Food was brilliant, chat at the bar said they have no chef so he was cooking and told him it was perfect . Made to feel very welcome and catering for my partner who is wheelchair bound so thank you very much for a lovely evening. Wish you all the best Gail and mark Pidwell xxx

Had a fantastic meal at this superb pub! Landlord, landlady and staff were attentive all night. All had an outstanding meal, steak, hunters chicken and a steak sandwich. Service was served with a smile and food cooked to everyone's taste. This place is a gem and well worth the visit. 5 * all round

Warm welcome from a lovely family run pub where nothing is to much trouble and service comes with a smile and time enough for a chat.Great selection of drinks and plenty of space to observe the new world rules and they are followed extremely well in this pub keeping you safe without being invasive.I’ve been here a few times now for both food and drink. I can highly recommend them for the carvery for all the family in the separate restaurant or a few pints and a catch up with friends & regular sport shown in one of two different bar areas.This pub is worth more than 1 visit ...stop reading my review and check it out for yourself .

Have delayed writing a report until a track record had been achieved but can't fault it!!Prices average for the area. Good selection of ales, lagers and ciders. All around 3.60-3.80 a pint. Nice menu for food ranging from pub grub to more upmarket. Not sampled it yet but have seen what Chef and Jamie putting out- looks great but dont eat before you go! The best bit is the effort Naomi, Jane, Carl and team are putting in. Everyone made very welcome and even as an occasional visitor, my drink and my name have been learned! Great to see this place getting back to its old feel and I hope the area support them. I am not related to anyone involved in the pub and live locally although not in this village. In these odd days I can also confirm that its very Covid safe. Please wear a mask when you go in, or else you'll be asked (politely) to leave.

Seven of us visited in the evening. We all enjoyed our meals – steaks, burgers and duck. Some even managed pudding as well, which disappeared quickly. Friendly attentive staff. Nice garden and village location. We hope to be back.

Wow! This is a proper pub with proper pub food.The owners have seriously turned this pub around. We had always been put off eating because the back rooms were so dark previously but now their decor, atmosphere and pub vibe is absolutely spot on! The owners have got the ambiance nailed! The service was warm and welcoming. The food price is about right maybe slightly on the expensive side (for a typical meal like a burger) but the food is very good/tasty and much better quality than many places to eat in the surrounding areas. As we visit East Devon twice yearly, we will definitely be back 100% for food and drinks! Thank you for a lovely meal and evening - a great experience for the halfway point of our holiday!

The one way system and table service were well signed, the landlord came out and explained the system. Waitress came took our order and track and trace details. It all felt very safe. Went back a second evening to have a meal. Servers wore masks to bring the food to the table. Plenty of vegetarian choices. Greendale burger was very nice, salad and chips with it. Basket meals were good value. One person had a starter and side as a main which wasn't a problem & came out with every else's. The garden is looking very nice and tables are well spaced out. Well done team.

Lovely food and the staff are great! They deserve a 5 star however our evening was spoilt by the landlord drinking and being rowdy with his mates. We heard homophobic and derogatory slurs from him and his table, not sure if they were directed towards us as we are gay. Either way, it turned a great evening in to a bad one. The staff did tell them to be quiet multiple times, which we appreciated but it didn’t work. Such a shame as we were having a great time and planning to go back later in the week. Can’t fault the staff, they were awesome. The stag pie was delicious.

I was in the village and popped in for a pint. The establishment was very welcoming and felt very safe in theses times. The staff was very welcoming and efficient. I did not have time to eat but what a lovely pub / restaurant

We were staying at Webbers Caravan Park for a long weekend and decided to sample some food here. Amazing is the only word to describe it!! Over the few days we visited we had the ploughman's- mammoth portion and really tasty, hunters chicken was moist and tender, Sunday carvery is excellent and plentiful. We couldn't fault the food, all of the staff or welcoming location. If you are visiting this area you must drop in.A delight to be there!

We booked a family birthday party with lunch and skittles for 7 adults and 3 children on a Saturday. When we first enquired about the venue a very helpful young lady gave us all the details and e mailed the menu to us straight away. On arriving at the White Hart we were shown to a very well appointed entertainment room with skittle alley pool table and even a dart board . We had preordered our meals from an extensive and reasonably priced menu,. As requested the food arrived on time and was enjoyed by all. Service was very good .We would thoroughly recommend The White Hart and will certainly be returning in the near future.

2nd time for lunch, again food really good, well worth a visit, a nice menu which all were pleased with (7 of us)

Absolutely appalled by the behaviour of the owner towards my children.. granted they were throwing beer mats around in the function room but to shout at them in an aggressive manner was simply out of order. On confronting the owner we found her attitude towards us totally unacceptable which turned into a Jeremy Kyle type affair with her son and husband getting feisty. Not the first time this has happened according to many others in the village.Left a very bad taste in the mouth from what is meant to be a family pub for Family’s.. Which I assume means bring your kids they are welcome.. If the owner approached us first about our children then all would have been dealt with in a much better mannered approach.

The Blues Brothers tribute band put on all for free for locals was absolutely brilliant. Kind and generous hosts. Always. Thank you.x

This pub has had a number of tenants in the last few years but the new incarnation promises to be the best. Run as a family concern the first thing we noticed was the personal touches added to a corporate makeover which helped the general ambience and feel. A few plates and saucepans on the walls and table decorations rounded off the edges of corporate pub decor and the friendly approach of the family worked wonders.Good honest pub grub was on offer with very generous portions and locally sourced produce (Greendales). My Beef Madras was one of the best Pub curries I have ever eaten being a proper heat and even contained a few cardamon pods. My wife loved the scampi and chips but she was overwhelmed by the quantity. The next visit with my brother included excellent hot steak baguettes with onion marmalade and a really old favourite from my childhood......toad in the hole, real comfort food. A good range of beers and a better than average wine list at modest prices. My wife liked the Prosecco.We wish them well and will be regular visitors....keep up the good work

This pub is fantastic and is definitely with a visit! The staff are super friendly and have time for everyone. Only sampled a small selection of food on our visit but it was hot, very tasty and good value. Good selection of beers, spirit's and coffee to suit every one. The new landlord, lady and their family have put their stamp on this pub and should be proud of what they have achieved. We look forward to returning very soon.

Sunday roast was our first experience and it was pretty awful. Tough meat, not even sure what the roast potatoes were doing, probably the worst I’ve had. However we had an evening meal there a few days later and it was excellent. Good portions, good flavour and a friendly atmosphere. Went a few time just for drinks during our weeks stay and the staff are great. Very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely go again but sadly not for Sunday lunch.

Roast dinner was awful, meat tough and overdone , vegetables cooked till they resemble the texture of mush, cheap frozen Yorkshire puddings that were chewy and tasteless all finished with an awful and bizarre red coloured gravy. Summer fruit pudding clearly pulled out of a freezer as arrived still frozen! Terrible and rude staff, barely had the time of day for us, let alone to ask anything about our meal, when she saw we had eaten the pudding her helpful comment was "okay" and then she walked away! Childrens roast was £7.50 alone for a small bit of chewy meat and terrible vegetables. A terrible waste of money, even worse customer service and an all round disappointing experience. Desperately needs new management and staff! if I could give it zero I would!

Its great to see this pub open again. Lovely spot in the village and very friendly helpful staff. The garden is a great asset right by the church and a super play area by the village green for youngsters.

On holiday & visited to meet friends somewhere central. Baguettes were lovely & chips the kids had were the best, was begging them not to finish! Lollys for the kids kept them happy. Friendly & helpful staff & kids played for ages in the playground. We even managed a special treat dessert before leaving, delicious. Gardens well kept & lovely area to enjoy the fresh air. Highly recommended.

Used to go here fairly regularly but went downhill over the last year. However recent reviews have been really good since new managers took over so we tried it again. Fortunately reviews have been accurate and the food was really good. We both had the steaks which were a lovely flavour, well cooked and came with a lovely mushroom sauce. We sat out in the lovely beer garden with our dog which was great

Lovely food, we ordered steaks, fish dish , curries and children's meals. All absolutely lovely and huge portions.

Visited here for a meal on Saturday 3rd August after hearing that the pub was under new management . We are regular visitors to the area as we own a holiday home nearby so visit the area as often as possible. The landlady and chef made an effort to talk to us which was nice . Food was freshly cooked and overall a good meal. However we visited again today 10.8.19 and entered the bar in order to watch a football game that was been screened on sky sports . The bar was very busy however there were lots of locals standing at the bar basically condemning how busy the place was and that strangers really shouldn’t be in here ! Made us feel fairly awkward to say the least .. we had once again spend in excess of £25 this afternoon to visit this pub and have a few drinks but will we return ? Shame when it appears the owners are trying to make a go of it ! I understand the locals will be here when visitors are not throughout the winter and out of season but surely repeat travelling visitors are also needed to build and substantiate the business . Word of mouth goes a long way and when friends of our who also visit this area ask for our opinion of the White Hart it is now likely to be influenced by the unwelcoming clientele .

Booked in here for a meal for my birthday with family and friends while on holiday. Took our 3 month old dog who was more than welcome. All had excellent food, great service and friendly staff. Even offered a taxi service to Webbers Park where we staying to all enjoy the well kept beers. Thanks for making my birthday meal great

The White Hart is a lovely family pub who treated us well on the occasion of a funeral that we attended in Wooddbury. We then had an evening meal there as well the food was great and staff very attentive. A really nice place.

Visited this pub on Friday night the 2nd of August and was not disappointed. The Bar was busy with mainly locals with a great atmosphere which is always a good sign. There was plenty of choice beers,wines and other various drinks to be spoilt for choice. We sat in the lovely beer garden for our drink soaking up the sun, and it was then when we decided to stay and have our evening meal. We settled in the lounge which was spotless and ordered our meals, my order of 3 meals was taken at the bar and i was informed by the lady behind the bar that there would be a wait as they were very busy. Well 10 minutes past and our food arrived and if that's classed as long wait it was worth it. My Daughter chose the Burger, Wife the Salmon and Myself Fish and chips, all served piping hot. We were asked during the meal if everything was OK, and i was also served another drink to our table rather than leaving my food. We were not disappointed with our visit here and were informed that the pub had only reopened by the owners 2 months ago, well if its stays this good it will be opened for a long time to come. This was our second visit since the White Hart was reopened. Had to go back to make sure the food was as good as the first time - might have been a fluke you understand. But no, it was excellent as before. And this was them having to cope with a large private function too.

This is now our second visit to this little gem and have every intention on working our way through the menu. Only found this because there was a sign out on the main road through Woodbury. The food is fabulous, fresh vegetables, lovely dressing on salads and a stag pie to die for. All in warm friendly surroundings. Dog friendly in bar area and gardens. The bar area has 3 decent seating areas for 4 + people at each table to eat in comfort. They do a sunday carvery not yet tried. And there is a very large garden with lots of seating. Staff and Managers are extremely friendly and welcoming. Reasonable parking in private car park. Tried gammon, steak. lasagna and stag pie all very very good. Prices range £10 to £15 for main meals. Well worth a visit and I'll bet you'll return.

Recently refurbished and clearly heading in the right direction. Our airbnb 'local info.' advised against this establishment, so we were more than curious to find out why. It would appear that the 'local info.' needs updating! All our meals were excellent and the menu extensive. Portions were large and may stump some. A large plate of food can be overwhelming if you don't play in the scrum for your local rugby team! Might be worth considering swapping 'chunky chips' for some a bit smaller on some of the dishes (mine lacked a bit of flavour). Would have liked to have seen some 'sharing dishes' (not fish) on the starters section (and would have had one if offered) and a Creme Caramel or Brulee on desserts list. Another favourite of mine, sausages, seemed absent? and my dear wife's favourite, steak-frite would be a good, light, addition with seasonal salad. I wish the team much success moving forward, you deserve it.
