Had Dinner with my family and parents a few days ago and was blown away. The food was amazing and the staff took excellent care of us. The manager himself was incredibly attentive and really made our evening. My girlfriend has an allergy that is sometimes difficult but they really knew their stuff when it came to allergens and offered her a wide range of choices which was so nice because usually she gets railroaded into only a single option for her. We ate off of the elegant dining menu and I was very impressed. I had the pork belly, the duck and the dark chocolate mousse and I would say I was savoring every bite but honestly I couldn't eat it fast enough. The duck with the dates and orange was a wonderful balance, and then having the dark chocolate for dessert to balance with the sweetness of my main. The manager was took excellent care of us always making sure we had water, clearing our plates promptly after each course and was an absolute pleasure to have a conversation with, and all of the other staff seemed very friendly, making the atmosphere very positive. Thank you to everyone for the wonderful evening I cannot wait to return when I am next in Devon

My husband and I have been here a couple of times and we rated this our favourite place to have roast. We rated this so high to our friends that they were excited to go. We turned up at 12 and walked into the reception were we found no staff to book us in. luckily we have been here before and went to the bar. our table was booked at 1215 we decided to have a drink while we waited for our friends to join us,plenty of staff behind the bar who brought us a menu and took our drink order. Our friends turned up and rang us as they didn’t know where to go. My husband had to collect them from the front door. My husband had to get a menu and order our friend’s drinks. We were shown to our table by a lovely girl and she took our order. I had to ask for water even though the restaurant was empty. We all ordered a roast I have to say it wasn’t on par with our previous experiences. roast potatoes were like leather. I love rare beef but this was hard to cut and very chewy. The fat was thick and lumpy and I had to discard half my beef. My friends were underwhelmed, especially as we said this was a different level of Sunday lunch.Nothing overly offensive, just disappointed this once exceptional venue has slipped into an expensive mediocre experience 🫣I do have to say the blonde waitress is a credit to your business she has always been friendly, professional and a lovely bit of banter.

Been thinking of visiting for quite some time and decided to finally pay a visit for “Elegant Dining” . Greeted by a very casually dressed almost scruffy tattooed although pleasant young man which we thought a bit odd for the Dining experience we were anticipating. The Dining room lacked any atmosphere and as has been mentioned before, the artwork over the fireplace doesn’t suit in any way. Service was friendly but poor and the food was mediocre, in particular the fabulous looking Tonka Bean Panna Cotta was anything but sadly, it was 3 small balls of solid panna cotta covered in white chocolate with a ball of vanilla ice cream smothered in a flavourless mint green coloured powder, 2 alleged poached pear and toasted almonds, it was very strange, very dry, bland and not at all pleasant, after a few attempts to eat after struggling to get into the balls as appeared to have possibly been frozen, I really couldn’t eat it, it isn’t what one expects a panne cotta to be. The slick Social Media presentations most certainly didn’t live up to expectations it couldn’t have been further from it in reality sadly.

Lovely building and decor but lacked atmosphere. We were seated early in the dining room, the only ones at first as there was no room in the bar. It felt cold and quiet at first, some nice music would have helped. We decided to choose from the lunchtime ( not the elegant menu). It seemed quite a small choice actually so 2 of the five decided to choose one of the specials. ( A £10 supplement for a very small lemon sole) It was good but not worth the extra!!! We waited ages for our food to arrive as the room filled up with customers who I think were there on business so everyone was actually eating and some finished before ours arrived!! ( I had booked the table in advance for a special birthday ,they said they would make a note. I had booked for five but they had only reserved a table for 4 ) but it was never acknowledged. Poor customer relations. The food was not really hot enough, lukewarm plates, didn't help. The room was chilly. We kept our jackets on throughout. We decided to forego dessert and have coffee in the bar. This time it was empty. Everyone except one went for regular coffee. Lukewarm!! Cold milk!! My mother wanted a Tia Maria liqueur coffee. They didn't have any!!! Unbelievable! . So she asked for a coffee with a Bailey's on the side. It was the smallest measure I have ever seen. Way overpriced. However the young barman who served us was charming and realised it was a birthday lunch and actually acknowledged this . The only one,so Thankyou. The final disappointment ( surprise) was when the bill arrived it had added on 25% vat. The prices on the menu did not say " plus vat" I do believe it should have been made clear. That's a huge extra on a £150 bill. Overall a bit disappointed. Would probably go again for a snack lunch only on a warm day.

Party of 6 of us went to Winslade to celebrate my friends birthday, first off I must say we had a great evening. Few little things my starter of poached egg on black pudding was very nice.. it did have bacon on the top which was not mentioned, my wife had the squid with aoili which was very much like butter (maybe that's there take on it), my fish coarse of sea bass was delicious, mains I had Duck with honey & 5 spice sauce..cooked perfectly, I ordered a side of potatoes rosti which arrived they were very similar to chunky chips, luke warm and very crunchy with a drizzle of truffle mayo (I should of sent them back, big didn't my bad) , wifey had the salmon fishcake topped with a soft boiled egg which she thoroughly enjoyed, one of our party had plaice which he loved, two others had the chicken breast which was good. The desserts were beautiful. I feel the dinning room lacks a bit of atmosphere in my opinion, in saying that the interior is very tasteful, the service was good, to sum up lots of good positive points but a few not so good which is why I gave the experience 4 instead of 5 stars.

The food was absolutely fantastic, the starter I had was the goat cheese and it was delicate and a delight to eat. I had the fillet of beef and oh my god it was so tender and tasty, each element tasted different. The pudding was very nice just a bit too sweet. The staff were lovely, very friendly and tried hard to answer our questions. The only slight criticism is the service was a little bit slow. That was not a big thing, I would definitely go there again.

A beautiful Manor and superb food must have some very qualified chefs, definitely 5 stars. Although the waiting staff were very pleasant we felt staff could be smarter dressed for that quality restaurant. We started the evening with Prosecco the empty glasses were left on the table. Lovely folded white napkins but terrible cutlery more like school canteen cutlery. The decor of the dining room with beautiful ceiling and curtains was lovely, tables need an update. There is an horrendous out of place picture over marble fireplace which spoils the look. Would l go again? Yes definitely for the food it just needs an experienced banqueting manager.

Today our table was booked for 2pm, we joined our group in the bar just before 2, and after a long wait were served with a drink. We were invited to go to our table at 2:30, and finally served with our pre-ordered food at 2:40. The roast lunch was OK, but not up to the standard we expected, and the service continued to be poor. We’ve visited Windslade Manor several times and can honestly say the food has always been top notch! Last night we went for our Anniversary meal and we had a delightful evening. The portions are generous and the food is faultless. The main thing for us was that you actually get a good portion of meat/fish, this, to my partner, is a game changer as he is often disappointed that it isn’t enough. Unlike a lot of other well-known a la carte restaurants where you can often leave hungry, we did not! The staff were professional and couldn’t have done enough for us and the drinks were presented beautifully in nice cold glasses. We look forward to coming back!

Our server (Char) was really impressive: warm, knowledgeable and unusually had eaten most of the dishes (including specials) so was really able to guide us. The food itself was delicious: local produce, beautifully cooked and artistically presented. We had smoked pork belly starter, main courses of duck and venison and a pudding of chocolate and cherry mousses. All supported by a lovely organic Prosecco. The evening was fantastic value at £80 for the two of us on their half price January deal. We can’t wait to return.

Decided to stop off in Exeter on our way to Salcombe for the weekend and wanted to get things off to a great start, with a fine dining experience. Winslade Manor is very grand. A beautiful building in lush grounds, presenting quite a site as you approach in the early evening darkness. It's equally grand inside with plenty of smiles to welcome you. We opted for the taster menu (in some ways to compare to our favourite haunts in Cardiff), accompanied with a bottle of English sparkling wine (a Lyme Bay Winery Brut Reserva, which was fantastic). As expected, the courses were well crafted, rich and flavourful - some a little too much (brie and truffle oil), but other striking just the right balance (the red mullet course and the Dartmoor venison with celeriac and blue cheese and pear amazing highlights). Overall, a lovely meal, in lovely surroundings - and we also enjoyed the eclectic mix of background music including some 80s and 90s classics (the barman's playlist apparently).

Overall we were impressed and thought it was good quality. £35 did seem like a lot but we were impressed that our drinks were included in the total even when we asked for a second round and one of us was drinking soft drinks instead of hot drinks. They catered very well for gluten free and the only tiny disappointment was that the gluten free sandwiches were plain and didn’t include condiments like mustard or pickle etc. But perhaps the chef wasn’t sure if these were gluten free. The gluten free scones were very good. The service was friendly and although it took a while for our drinks order to be taken at the start, it was efficient after that.

Have made several visits to this place and had excellent food and service. However this experience was poor. I usually do not post poor reviews and in this case emailed the restaurant privately to give them my feedback. As they could not be bothered to acknowledge my email or reply I have resorted to posting on here. Soup was watery and no bread served. Main course was inedible. The lack of service meant it was very difficult to address the issues at the time, as waiters fussed over the cream tea diners and ignored the rest. By the time I managed to wave down a passing waiter, their offer to replace my main was rather pointless as my partner had finished his meal. They did remove the cost of the main meal, but the poor service, no goodbye or thank you on the way out and the lack of a email response indicates to me that something has changed at this place in the way they value their customers. Such a shame as I thought I had found a regular place to visit.

1)Hidden gem that is a great gastronomic feast once found. Once found, being operative words. I have googled 'new places to eat' since 2000 and never has this delightful place appeared. A friend happened to mention they'd had tea here and I was on the case. She tried to direct us, but I got it woefully wrong, driving endlessly round an estate and then towards Topsham. I was trying to look for a sign, any sign, that said Winslade Manor but could not see one. The photos are a suggestion of the type of sign that could help. Even my SatNav and GP'S had us all over the place. Our Waitress said she had had the same problem. 2) Service. Our waitress was amusing, efficient, prompt, knowledgeable, considerate and kind. 3) Decor. The decor is amazing. It could be picked up and put down in Pall Mall or St James' and not be found wanting. It is chic, contemporary, but sympathetic, retaining original features. For a comparison of how NOT to 'renovate' I thought of the Pig at Coombe, Gittisham. An Elizabethan building totally wrecked. At least here, someone knew what they were doing and it shows. 4) Food. The food is a work of art and delicious. To present a course so elegantly, yet sufficient to satisfy a good appetite, is a real skill. No measly nouvelle cuisine here. The puddings oooh! Absolutely superb!. A word on Menus, both of us wear glasses and did struggle a bit. I don't know the font, but most fonts run from 1 to 48 or something, I would suggest if this was on 8, say, moving it to 11? Only a wee bit bigger would make a lot of difference for people with poor eyesight. I have cataracts and found it tricky. I could have asked for the waitress to read it out, but felt shy of that although sure she would have done. 5)Loos. Amazing. Decor wonderful, clean and sweet. 6) Carpark. Easy, oodles of space and well maintained. 7) Would we return. Having now found it, YES.

Excellent Sunday roast, Friendly staff tho service a little slow. Absolutely awful piece of abstract art dominating the dining room. Thought the whole place tastelessly decorated. This however didn’t detract from the very delicious food

Afternoon tea was a special treat and as such well worth the price. The food was superb see the photos) and the staff were charming - nothing was too much for them. The only hiccup was finding the access for wheelchair users. But for that I would have given them 3 perfect 5s. I would definitely return for a special occasion.

I went to Winslade Manor for a networking event. I was impressed by the ample parking and stunning entrance. The event included drinks outside and since it was a lovely Spring Day, it was a perfect opportunity to take in the views. Strange to think it is located so close to the city centre but with modern country feel. The event also included food and it was outstanding. Thank you, Chef, for the tasty lunch, especially the duck parfait starter. I will certainly recommend it as a place for future events.

I have been visiting Winslade manor since they opened, I have always been impressed by the food, cocktails and impressive setting. During the school holidays recently , I was passing with my 2 children between 3-4pm and phoned on the off chance they might be serving food when no one else was they said no problem, the kitchen wasn’t officially open but they could definitely sort lunch for us, had a table for us and even asked the kitchen to make something special for my children. 5 star service! Recommend without hesitation. Thank you so much.

This was our second visit and both occasions were amazing. Booking was easy and we turned up to a welcome greeting. The location is outstanding with ample parking and the building is beautiful. On our second visit we decided to opt for the 7 course taster menu and it was just WOW. Every dish was packed full of flavour and presented beautifully. Hours of prep must of been done to achieve the level of flavours and texture. Each part complimented the whole taste explosion on your mouth. Our waiter was Charlie. He was a wonderful. Nothing was too much effort and what ever we asked for we got from tailor made cocktails to a history of the building and restaurant. He advised us to book a taxi early being a Saturday night and he took care of this for us. If you are looking for a next level dining experience then Windslade Manor is your place. We like our food and have tried a lot of places and this place blows the others out the window. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Came here for lunch with friends on a Friday. Parking wasn’t easy - had to park down the road and walk back. We reserved for 1.30 since they close the kitchen at 2pm. We had a lovely welcome and a nice quiet table. Excellent beer with Timothy Taylors and very good selection of food. We had Liver and Onion, Seabass fillet and Bely of Pork plus a wine or beer each. The quality and quantity was excellent and good value @<£25 each. Fully recommend

We booked this venue for our allotment annul dinner. Sixteen of us sat down to a meal that was faultless, served at the time agreed, the quality of each dish was excellent. The meats served in the main dishes was cooked to perfection, being allotmentiers we are a picky bunch about our vegetables, but again all served to perfection. The waiting staff were on the ball making sure we all had what we pre-ordered along with Martin, the landlord, checking that we were all happy. A first rate evening Martin from the food, to your staff, and the surroundings. Thank you from us all!!
