Fabulous pub with great garden. We’ve been a couple of times for a drink and something to eat from one of the food trucks (they are not doing food from the kitchen yet!) pub looks great - everyone super friendly - what’s not to like !! Looking forward to seeing what food trucks popping up in September !! Hilary and Chris

So pleased to see this place open again. Great to see the community coming together to run this wonderful pub. Such friendly service and a wonderful pizza from the "van of the day". And one of the best beer gardens in Devon. Thank you 😊

It was a restaurant that has been closed for a while but now opened as a community pub. All the decor has been refreshed giving a warm friendly feel. It is run by volunteers which enhances the warm welcome. The kitchen doesn’t do food but there are pop up vans with good quality food. Lovely garden with far reaching views. Dog friendly which is a must in Devon! Certainly worth a visit if you are looking for a good pub.

The Five Bells has recently reopened as a community run pub, having been saved by local villagers. It is now run entirely by volunteers, serving drinks and offering a variety of different food vans and live music on a regular basis. We recently went to the reopening weekend and I have to say we had a fantastic evening! The staff were so friendly and well trained, the atmosphere was wonderful and it was a joy to see the pub back to it's former glory. The facilities include a well manicured beer garden, lots of parking, indoor seating, a pool table and darts area with juke box and a variety of games to play. We went as a family of 4 (2yo and 6m old) and had a blast. The baby changing facilities were great, and some sanitary items are provided in the ladies (no idea about the men's as my husband didn't notice anything). If you have the opportunity to visit, check out the Facebook page for events and updates, as well as details of the relevant food provisions. Please do call in if you can!

I know that cancellation policies are in place for a reason, for the 'no shows' and for people who do not respect the 24 hour cancellation policy. I can only assume that this is the reason that this establishment has this in place. Sadly, on the morning of the booking, I had to rush my father to A and E. My husband rang to let the restaurant know as soon as we knew that we would not make it. This was because we cared and wanted them to be informed as soon as possible and provide them with the opportunity of securing another booking. My husband rang at his earliest opportunity which was about 9.30 am. We were aware that the restaurant does not open until 12 but we wanted to reach them as quickly as possible. The answering machine came on so my husband kept trying until he eventually got hold of someone. Once my father’s condition stabilised, I also emailed the restaurant to extend our sincere apology and to explain the situation. During the telephone conversation I am speechless ( not about the non-refundable deposit) but about how the restaurant responded. Even if the manager was not prepared to change our booking to another day, could she not have been more kind with her response? At least 'a sorry to hear about your father, but unfortunately...' The whole telephone manner was rude, abrupt, and uncaring. I understand that business is business but please have a heart as well. This is why I am writing this review. We were not being rude or abrupt. This was about a family emergency and we were letting you know whilst in the midst of it all. This was a booking for two people, not a party of 10. Does the restaurant not operate a waiting list? Did they make every effort to find customers to replace our booking? Times are tough for many of us right now and a little bit of human kindness goes a long way whilst citing your well publicised terms and conditions.

First time visit to the Five Bells, upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who couldn’t have done more for us throughout the evening. The background music was good and the right volume but that’s kind of where the atmosphere stopped, the lack of personal touch in the decor was a bit sad. Our starter was fantastic, although it took a while to arrive. Then another long wait ensued for the mains, admittedly a lot of tables came in at the same time so I guess the kitchen was over-run but not sure that should be happening in a smaller establishment. When the mains did arrive they were nice but didn’t blow us away. All in all seemed to be missing a star flavour, having said this the food was all cooked very well and presentation was good. All in all a bit of a shame, we might return but only if we have a couple of hours to kill.

We have eaten here a number of times and never been let down by the food or the welcome. This is the first time I’ve ever had Sunday lunch. Although we are all having difficult times and as we know pubs and restaurants are having it just as bad so the fact that they are still providing quality and quantity with a cost that is in no way extreme in fact I’d say it was good value plus it’s always a clean and pleasant environment. We look forward to the next time

The venue is absolutely lovely. Thatched roof and just very picturesque. Decor inside cosy and relaxed atmosphere and beautiful open fire. The food was supberb. The main course was a tad small for my husbands healthy appetite. I rounded my meal off with the cheese n biscuits and Port which was a perfect choice. Also the staff were very welcoming and attentive without being over the top. Only wished The Five Bells was nearer to our home on West Sussex.

Have visited many times before- hadn't realised there was a new chef. We were a party of 6 - all ordered the plaice cooked on the bone. Thoroughly enjoyed it - fins and small bones trimmed off so very easy to eat. We all ordered the chocolate brownie dessert - delightful, great flavours - dark chocolate, cherrys soaked in alcohol, and some burnt butter icecream - just the right amount of everything. Unfortunately cannot comment on the other dishes... ('cos we boringly all ordered the same stuff!) - but will definitely return again!

I've dined here before for a regular lunch in the summer and yesterday had a Sunday lunch. Stunning.... Gravy to die for and the pork (& the rest) were amazing. Well done guys, you are clearly the best in the area. Also, so nice to...

Lunched there twice in the last month. First was a party of six with some picky eaters. All were thrilled. Later just two for a light lunch - for me the delicious Scotch duck egg/sweet and sour picalilli/black garlic aioli and the exceptional chocolate fondant...

This was our first visit to The Five Bells, and it was a wonderful experience. The food was superb and the surroundings were lovely in this delightful old pub.

I have responded to the experience questions despite a non visit. My message is based on the fact I was ultimately unable to enjoy the products from my online order, as I appear to be excluded from delivery listings due to the fact I live on a Scottish Island. Whilst understanding of the potential costs involved, perhaps the company could at least offer the option to the customer to cover such...something I would be only happy to oblige with....regardless of the amount David Wilkie Isle of Cumbrae Scotland 07488941692

We had to try the new Sunday lunch menu and we were not disappointed. Roast beef served with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cheesy leeks and a proper Yorkshire - not one of those rock hard crispy things restaurants often serve. Followed up with the best freshly cooked Blueberry Bakewell and cream. The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much
