The Sidmouth Arms in East Devon

We went for a meal on the way home from Exeter,took my elderly mum for a belated Christmas treat.We have been for Sunday lunch before, this time evening meal.Food excellent and service,very helpful gave my elderly mum a cushion to make her more comfortable.All in all lovely country pub, cosy with open fire , friendly staff, value for money , will return.

Great food and even better service Myself and a friend went to the Sidmouth Arms tonight for dinner. She was coming to the area to visit me and I wanted to take her to our local. Our service was excellent, the food was really good and delivered really quickly and service was friendly. We told the lady at the bar we were planning to walk home and she explained it was raining and concerned about us walking home alone. The owner kindly gave us a lift home without hesitation to stop us getting soaked. The service and care at this pub was just second to none and we are so glad it’s our local!

It was okay, a bit basic but nothing bad. Staff were friendly and provided good service. Sunday roast was not very exciting

Saw the sign on the main road and stopped a little before the pub opened for Sunday lunch. We took the dog for a walk then arrived for 12 and had the most delicious roast lamb. They are Dog friendly and very welcoming and said we could park the camper van overnight if we needed to.

We had starters and main. Fantastic food, quality and quantity. I only wish we lived closer but we are in Kent. So if you see the signs on the A30 definitely go and visit this pub. It was the best.

I visited with the parents for mums birthday. I haven't been in a few years but the food and service were top notch as always. All our meals were excellent and the servers were very polite and efficient. I'd recommend the sidmouth Arms to anyone. Needless to say we'll definitely be returning.

Called in on a Sunday on the off chance there would be a table. There was, just! It was busy, so a very popular place. Had the roast which is available every Sunday. Choice of beef, turkey, pork and lamb. It came plated up with loads of meat and the vegetables were brought on side plates. There was plenty of food for us all. So much that we had to pass on the desserts which looked equally as nice. The staff were very accommodating as we had not pre-booked and polite in checking that we had all needed. Would highly recommend.

We visited this pub for both a lunch stop and then breakfast on our way home. On both occasions we were welcomed as if we were regulars (Never been here before. The baguettes that we had for lunch were both hearty, tasty and great value while the breakfast was a meal to us through our day. On hearing that they get thier beef from thier own family farm and overhearing the compliments that it was getting from customer we will making the effort to drive down soon for a Sunday lunch which we hear is a real hit. Thank you Sidmouth Arms for the hospitality.

Had a great Beef roast on New years day. Fast and very friendly service, plus a good choice of real ales. Great mix of locals and visitors in the pub and situated in a lovely village. Also there are places worth visiting for anyone with an interest in the WW2, a couple of miles away

Lovely village pub who welcomed a booking for a large family of 17 (just requested a preorder for food 👍). Service was great. Very friendly and quick. Food was beautiful! Very relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!

We met friends here for lunch. It is slightly off the beaten track but easy enough to find and has plenty of parking. It was fairly busy (seems to be popular with dog walkers and is dog friendly) but the staff seemed to manage very well. I'm an Otter Brewery fan so seeing Ale, Amber and Bitter all on tap as we walked in was good. Plenty of choice on the food menu, the lamb's liver and bacon on the specials menu made the decision easy for me and it was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is the gents toilets. Although clean they are in need of work, it looks like the ceiling has had a leak and has a coating of black stuff (maybe mould?) and the mirror over the sink is cracked.

Return visit after many years and still excellent. Great food and service and a warm welcome. Just stopped off on route for a quick light lunch. They were very busy being Christmas but the staff were great and our meal came very quickly.

We were travelling back home from Salisbury to Tavistock. We’d noticed the pub signs on the way up and checked the menu, reviews etc and planned to visit on the way back if time allowed. We were on a tight schedule and about an hour away rang them to book a table for the 4 of us and even pre ordered our food. We arrived and were greeted by incredibly friendly and accommodating staff, the service was really quick and the food absolutely excellent. We were just so pleased to have been able to find a pub willing to take a preorder with nothing more than a phone call. Thoroughly recommended and based on the Christmas tables all set up we could see why they would be full. Thanks again, we were so grateful.

Xmas lunch was noisy and overcrowded with 3 different groups in the room simultaneously - at least 50 people. Food was variable - my beef was very good, but my wife's veggy offering was cold and miserly in quantity. Only being in excellent company saved the occasion.

So much to say about a wonderful place to visit we thoroughly enjoyed every moment that we went twice you don't get many places like this anymore friendly staff and couldnt do enough for you the dogs enjoyed there sausages which were on the menu. Lots of choice available and cater well for gluten free and the most amazing homemade pavlova which was amazing. The cost of things was worth every penny and big portions. Would be great to have this on your doorstep you lucky locals.

Great Sunday lunch while on weekend away. We had 2 well behaved dogs and 2 gluten free in our party. Lots of choice. This was our second visit, will definitely be back.

Amazing food, top quality mixed grill to die for best of ingredients and best I've had miller and Carter couldn't lace there boots and the steak and Guinness pie amazing to .So glad my daughter wanted too go here for her birthday 10/10 AA++

Don't be put off by the online menu. It is much much better than you can Imagine. We have been here 2 meals in 3 ! Saturday evening we booked late for 2 peeps and 3 Labradors and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Lambs liver was fantastic. Desserts are homemade and wonderful. Great Ales and flavoured gins So good we booked Sunday lunch and we had Lamb and it was incredible. We will be back and soon

First time eating here and we had a wonderful Sunday lunch today, one turkey & one lamb. The lamb was the small plate and it was ample for me. It came with a great selection of veg. For dessert we had the cheesecake and millionaire torte, was delicious. Very pleasant and extremely efficient service, we will definitely be back!

What a find! We were driving to get to Honiton and came across this delight. Not one to leave reviews but the lunch we had was superb - I had sole with crayfish and my partner had ploughmans- absolutely perfect. The lady that serviced us was chatty and charming the atmosphere was cosy. The kitchen staff were eating their tea in the pub which we loved- feels family run and we will definitely recommend to others and visit again ourselves soon.

Unfortunately my portion of Bream at £17 was the smallest portion of fish I have been served anywhere. My friends Halibut accompanied by 4 prawns £22 was not much bigger. It is a large pub with many empty tables. Perhaps decent sized portions would attract more customers. A beautiful historic building in a quiet village setting; Friendly attentive staff and the food did taste good. I hope it stays in business.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch celebrating a special birthday! We were a large party but our food arrived quickly and we can vouch for extremely tasty lamb, beef, pork and turkey roasts! We came here for my fiancé's birthday and as we know the head chef. This pub is amazing and serves delicious food. I had the belly pork and my fiancé had the lambs liver and bacon, and we had the tiramisu and cheesecake for dessert 🍨. I would definitely recommend you eat and drink here. Went out for a family roast it was amazing. I had the lamb which was delicious 10 out of 10 the rest of the family really enjoyed their meals as well, especially the chocolate, brownies and brownie ice cream

Returned for dinner at the Sidmouth Arms, having not been since Covid. It was really great to see that it is as good as ever it was. Friendly staff and very good, reasonably priced food. My wife's steak was pronounced excellent and I tboroughly enjoyed my featherblade of beef. Having shared a starter, couldn't manage a dessert! We in East Devon are really lucky to have so many really good places like the Sidmouth Arms to enjoy a night out.

This is a traditional English pub. We came here while on holiday in the area. Much better than average Sunday lunch - and there is an option to have a smaller portion which suited me perfectly - and even the small portion was ample for an adult lady like me. :) We enjoyed a walk around the village after eating - lovely location.

It is about 8 years since we last visited the Sidmouth, on the last occasion all was not good and bad meals were served, however, 8years on, new management and it looks like a revamp, things have definitely improved, the lamb shank was superb as was the sea bass, fish and chips were also very good. The only downside was the Tartare sauce, far too tart and not enough aaah for our diners liking. Good selection of Gins and ales... Thank you, and we shall return, though hopefully the Tartare may be better...

Great food and friendly staff. We made 2 visits during our week in Devon. The first we sat in the restaurant; I had the belly pork and can honestly say it’s the best I’ve ever very had - full of flavour and fell apart as you cut it. My partner had the fish and chips which were really good too. Our second visit - I asked for an Aperol Spritz and the landlady fetched a bottle from her home across the road! And now the Sidmouth Arms are offering Aperol Spritz on their drinks menu! Perfect village pub with great food, wish we lived in Upottery! We will definitely return.

Fabulous Sunday Lunch! This is our third visit in a month and each time has been a delight! The staff are so welcoming and the atmosphere is that of a real country pub. Having booked a table each time the service was excellent with our order taken shortly after being seated and the food arriving soon afterwards, served with a smile. The organisation behind lunch service is obviously well honed, and everything is spotless. Then you get to the food.... Served on hot plates, with vegetables served separately. Excellent portion size, tasty tender meat, with lovely roasters, gravy and veg selection. A great selection of puddings and everything reasonably priced. What's not to like! We intend to repeat the experience as often as possible!

This beautiful pub, set in a picturesque little village ticked all the boxes for us. As a family with children of various ages and 2 dogs, they accommodated us really well. Put us in a lovely cool area, ideal for the dogs and nothing was too much trouble. They really did go above and beyond. The food was lovely, clear plates all round and the service was fab. My boys loved the pool table and darts board and the pub garden was lovely too. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent pub! We had sole on crushed new potatoes (superb) and sundaes (eton mess and brownies) - both very good. Friendly efficient service, good range of beers and ciders. All in all five stars.
