The staff in this store are so unhelfull & miserable. 1st time visit today & will not shop here again....

As a group of friends we went for the festive lunch menu, had an individual table in a characterful brick area. All the food was beautifully presented and tasted great The service at the the table was also good The only downsides were that the area we were in was cold and when we went to book and arrived the reception welcome was not inviting . The way of paying was a bit convoluted However we will go back as the food and presentation was excellent

Few years ago wasn't great but lately they have stepped up. Food is so much better, the gravy has a lot more flavour the lamb was tender probably the best in newbury so far well done guys

I had an amazing experience, of feeling home away from home, the guys were friendly, chatty and best customer service. The food uhmm amazing!! taste good. Best so far.

Perfect stay over and meal as we were going to a concert nearby and didn’t want to drive back to Basingstoke.

I am a local and have come a large number of times over the years and always been disappointed. Especially with the service. (At my adult daughter’s birthday dinner in July the waitress literally threw down her birthday pudding as she strode by without a word!) Last weak 3 of us came for a full lunch which was ok ish but horribly overpriced. the hostess at the entrance to the restaurant was rude beyond belief . As we stood at the desk waiting to be seated she carried on preparing a table in the empty bay nearby and spoke from there . Her words were “yes” . We said we woul like a table outside and were greeted by silence. She eventually came to the desk and asked us “is there one free” in an incredibly arrogant way. Her job to find out not ours. The conversation continued in the same vein. It’s hard to get over how rude she was. Undeterred I came to the cafe today and bought a roast beef roll and a tiny americano. £12.50!!!!! The beef was full of fat and sinews. I tried to chew it but impossible and had to remove from my mouth. Totally inedible. I ended up just eating the tomato and roll. If this place was not on the river no one would ever come here. It’s a disgrace. Never again.

Very very slow service . The delivery is never be ready even if 10 late as well the they can take their time to make but it’s always you have to wait at least 15 to 20 minutes when you go to the store please don’t order order from here again

The person issuing it doesn't understand. Very long waiting time despite the small number of orders.

only thing I would say is it wasn't that hot.

This is the second time I've been this year, and unfortunately we experienced poor service again. Order taken fairly quickly, and notes were made that one person required gluten-free due to being coeliac. The chips are cooked in the same fryer, so there is a risk of cross-contamination, so salad was ordered as a replacement. However order arrived with chips and also the toastie included relish which wasn't listed and so needed to check with staff to ensure this was gluten-free. Disappointing and probably won't come back again.

Excellent place very clean lovely staff nothing was too much bother for them service was very good and so was the meal we had, mine was a lovely breakfast wrap with chips my husband had a small breakfast cooked and served to perfection a big thank you to the chef and of course the wonderful staff especially the kind waitress who very kindly opened the disabled toilet for me. We had not been to Newbury for while but we will be certainly making another visit, and of course making another visit to The Hatchet Inn.

Visited here for a quick drink, barman was uninterested and extremely unfriendly, lots of loud locals that made fun of customers behind their back which were heard. Felt so uncomfortable here and couldn't wait to leave which has never happened to us in many years. Thank god we didn't stay for a meal. Suggest you avoid at all costs.
