Stayed before and a regular user of Butcombe pubs for stays - hold Butcombe loyalty card. As I sit here now waiting for my breakfast - 30 minutes and counting. Chefs bell dinging away while the 1 member of staff runs around trying to serve : take orders / make coffee and deal with deliveries, check people out. Wife’s eggs just arrived cold and hard. Now attempting to send them back. Not good enough

Truly sad to hear this pub is closing. The food, service and atmosphere was always superb and I hope it re-opens as a pub again in the future.

Weekday lunch. A decent pint and good quality pub food. the apple crumble was very sweet and not to my taste, but otherwise a good experience. Staff very helpful and atmosphere good.

Sunday lunch. Sadly they’d run out of Pork, one of the trio of meats and the only one that I would have chosen if the others were unavailable. So we had the beef which was lovely. The roasties could have done with another twenty minutes to crisp up a bit but they were lovely and fluffy inside, well cooked. The veg was lovely but oh dear, the gravy had a very sticky consistency and the Yorkshire puddings were almost inedible due to being almost impossible to cut, rubbery is the best I can describe them as. We had a late lunch but still a couple of hours before the end of service so no real excuse for running out of Pork and rubbery Yorkshires. The pub was lovely and clean, including the WCs, the staff were lovely and very helpful. Beer was reasonably priced and well kept, sadly the cost of wine was almost as much for a glass as the cost of dinner. One of the better Sunday lunches in and around Newbury and reasonable value. We will go again and hope that next time it warrants 5 stars!

Stayed overnight, very friendly and lovely hotel.

The atmosphere here is excellent. The staff are all very welcoming and polite. The manager, Julian, couldn't be more helpful despite only very recently taking over the business and having a lot on his plate. Absolutely do recommend, and I will be coming again.

With a walking group of fifteen, the service was excellent, the staff friendly and the food and coffee highly rated, none of us were disappointed and would return. Certainly worth a visit.

Sunday lunch is amazing: the beef the highest quality; 6 vegetables; quantities mountainous but there is always a takeaway box to be had; and the beef tastes even better cold. In great form.

I felt I must write to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at The Tutti Pole recently. Two friends joined me, where they opted for toasted sandwiches - delicious I'm sure, but I'd spent a few hours in the garden, and had worked up a huge appetite. As such, a full English breakfast was required to fully satisfy my hunger (and it certainly did) Everything was beautifully presented, and most importantly, my fried eggs were cooked to perfection ! Ice creams were enjoyed for dessert, ending a wonderful lunch. I hear this family run business has been serving customers for 43 years. My goodness, 43 years - now that's impressive, but in a way it's hardly surprising, because when you have a lovely team of friendly staff who greet you with a warm welcome, plus offer a tempting assortment of scrumptious food, then you can expect that business to flourish, and have a long and healthy future. Good old fashioned service, combined with a pleasurable eating experience are the hallmarks of the Tutti Pole (more than 4 decades in business confirms this)

Went in last night to take a look and have to say the new landlord was extremely welcoming and friendly and nice to see a newbury pub being run back by a local person in my opinion it will only help grow the pub

We have been here a few times and have not been disappointed. This time the service and meals were fine. But I only give 3 stars because the place was extraordinarily noisy. Loud chatter from other diners is to be expected, but adding overly loud music made it impossible to have a normal conversation, so we ate quietly and left without desert.

After complaint ( wine arrived without top and tasted like it had been mixed & steak was fatty) I received the following by email - nothing during dinner though.“ I am equally disappointed with your experience here at The Hare & Hounds as you are. Greg, it’s important to me that you know that hospitality and making my guests happy is what keeps me going, and I do not take negative feedback lightly.Please allow me some time to regroup with my team and get back to you”Never heard anything back and when I tried to reply to email it was a ‘no-reply’ email address.For a £135 bill ( for 2 people, excluding the service charge) I expected a lot better !

Lovely location, decent setting but consistently disappointing, sub standard food. Rubbery poorly fried steaks (almost inedible), overcooked breaded chicken…the list goes on. Basic mistakes you wouldn’t make at home. We want to give the place a chance but it’s always the same so won’t be going back.

Brilliant service, warm and welcoming environment. The food was excellent.
