I had a joint 50th and 18th birthday dinner/party here with my aunt. The food was just to die for, the staff (especially our waitress Freya) were the most bubbly lovely people ever. Overall such a lovely pub. Would very much recommend :)

We had a joint 18th and 50th birthday celebration in the private dining room with 19 family members. What an absolutely amazing night! Thank you to all the staff at the Royal oak yattendon for making it perfect and special, wonderful pub, dining rooms, fantastic food and drinks, suberb accommodation. A big thank you to Victoria and Alicia for your organisation and a massive thank you to Freya who looked after us all night, she worked tirelessly, nothing too much trouble, great attention to detail and incredibly approachable and friendly, Freya is a credit to you. Once again thank you for making are birthdays one to remember.

Was recommended to come here as just moved to the area. My girlfriend and I came here for a Sunday Roast , looked after by the amazing Alice who was polite and very attentive. I have to say after having the roast dinner it was the best one I’ve had to date , it was cooked perfectly. Once informing Alice how good the food was the lovely Chef came out to thank us which you do not normally get. We can honestly say we have now found our go to place for Roast dinners thank you

As usual service and ambience were excellent, but disappointed with the latest menus. Removal of old favourites like the fish and chips, fish pie etc gave limited choices and two members of our party found difficulty in choosing their food.

There were eight of us with the Royal Oak being mid-way for the two families travelling. I had to change the booking (time and numbers) several times which friendly and easily handled. The event was a rather emotional reunion and the quiet table requested was ideal. Service was quietly attentive and the food simply excellent. We stayed overnight in a very comfortable cottage. Whilst maybe a little on the pricey side it was value for money and we highly recommended. After all one gets what one pays for. I wish we lived closer to visit more often.

We visited on a Monday as my husband was working at that end of the country. We were looking for somewhere nice to stay with our dog, wow did we find it. On arrival the lady showed us to our room and was very happy to welcome our Dalmatian, up a flight of stairs was our lovely, clean, modern en suite room with views over the village. We soon retreated to the garden at the back where there was lots of comfy seating and tables and chairs. We browsed the menu and I went for the flat iron steak with peppercorn sauce, my husband chose the main portion of ribs with fries. Our food soon came and it was piping hot and delicious, luckily it was a nice evening so we were able to stay outside and have a drink. We retired to our room early and had an enjoyable nights sleep in the comfy bed. The en-suite was lovely with plenty of towels and a powerful shower over a bath. There were coffee and tea facilities also. Breakfast was included in a beautiful dining room where our dog was also welcome. We both enjoyed a lovely breakfast with hot drinks and juice. There isn’t a lot in the local area but I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. 100/100

We were so lucky to find this little gem of a hotel after our ferry from Portsmouth was cancelled. We found it easy to park right in front of the hotel but, if all those spaces are taken, there’s a large car park a few steps away. Warm welcome and beautifully appointed room with large bathroom. Lovely big, fluffy towels and plenty of toiletries. Nespresso machine with lots of pods and good quality teas. Lovely restaurant. The dishes we chose were excellent as was the service. We had a great nights sleep and enjoyed a great full English in the morning. We would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone.

Having grown up in the surrounding area, but not having returned much for a couple of years, it was a very pleasant return to experience lunch at the Royal Oak on a Sunday afternoon. We sat in the Orangery, the staff were able to accommodate us ahead of our booking time. The pea and ham soup and mushroom starters were lovely, and the roast dinners were very much enjoyed. The flat iron steak was great. A very very enjoyable time was had by all four of us, and we would highly recommend to those who may not have visited previously or for sometime to go to the Royal Oak. Thank you very much for looking after us.

We are local and have been to the Royal Oak a couple of months ago and had a very nice evening with good food and service. I wanted to celebrate my wife's birthday with our family who had travelled quite a distance to join us and I thought the Royal Oak would be a good choice for Sunday lunch. We were welcomed by friendly staff and ordered our meals which appeared extremely quickly (which seemed a little suspicious) ; 3 portions of lamb ; 1 portion of beef ; 1 of pork and also 1 chicken. Other than the chicken the meat dishes were dreadful , especially how expensive they were . I don't mind paying for good food but this was appalling , the beef and the lamb were "grey" ,I sent my beef back to see if I could have my portion pink , it did come back a little pink but extremely tough and gristly and lukewarm. The pork was mostly fat with soggy crackling and also had to be sent back to be warmed up. The lamb was just not good. The waitress did not charge for 2 of the desserts as an apology. I don't understand when you have a great pub restaurant you then shoot yourself in the foot by serving really sub standard food. It is such a shame because we do like to support our local businesses , but for the time being we will not be returning to the Royal Oak.

We had moved house so had not been for a few years and what a delight to return to find it even better than before. The extension has been well thought out, beautifully finished and furnished and just a pleasure to enjoy dining in it. The food has always been good but seeing it prepared has added a new dimension. There were three of us and each had a different starter and mains and all dishes from a good selection were very tasty. I had the pork tomahawk with a cannellini bean and chorizo casserole and the chef had cooked raw chorizo so the flavour was intense. This is a kitchen that knows what it is doing and where it is going. Well done Rob and team and yes we will be back soon. It might be a bit further to travel but well worth the experience.

An old favourite local restaurant that seems to have lost its way completely. Overcooked chicken Kiev that looked like it came from the supermarket freezer section, fries that tasted like cheap fast food and small portions at a very high price. The staff were disorganised, forgetting us a few times; the wonderful outdoor garden area was unavailable and completely empty on a lovely Friday evening due to ‘resource’ issues even though a number of staff were walking around. Such a pity, a beautiful venue with very disappointing management and bad food. Sadly we won’t be going back again very soon. I hope the owners read this review so they act quickly to improve this once lovely restaurant!

We had three courses and couldn't complain about any of them and also enjoyed a lovely Albarinio. The local Renegade beer was absolutely delicious. Atmosphere was very relaxed, we sat there enjoying a really slow afternoon and never felt rushed, or forgotten. Yattendon is a stunning village with lots of footpaths to enjoy a walk post lunch. Disappointing Sunday lunch. The service was slow (although the staff pleasant). The food was well below the standard I've experience from other Michelin recommended restaurants. My pork belly Sunday lunch was mainly a strip of fat, about 50g of edible pork with soggy crackling outside. The starters and desserts were poor value too. I'd say if you are going out with a dog (they are allowed) or have lively kids and you have plenty of time, this would be good. Especially if you stick to just a main course. Otherwise I'd give it a miss.

Booked this for my husbands birthday as it was in the Michellin guide. Never had a bad Michelin guide restaurant until now. Food was absolutely awful. Starter was burrata salad, tiny amount of burrata and the dish had clearly been made in advance and stored in the fridge. No croutons just pieces of ciabatta bread which were stone cold from the fridge and soggy from where they’d been left with the tomatoes. Main was pork schnitzel. Panko breadcrumbs with ZERO seasoning. Chips were cheap French fries in horrible cooking oil. It’s not hard to make homemade chips and these were worse than Aldi’s oven chips. Desert menu was poor. Brownie was ok. Overall an expensive meal out and probably the worst we’ve had in a good few years.

My wife and I both had roast guinea fowl with leeks, bacon and a delicious delicate perfectly seasoned sauce!! Followed by passion fruit parfait with coconut meringue and berry coulis. Had Lamb roast on Sunday while at the Car Show. Excellent roast, well presented and a good portion, let down by the stringiest, inedible parsnip, bit of a shame. Told the young waitress she should advise the chef of this, but she totally ignored me, just asked if I wanted pudding, which I did. Although the pudding ( strawberries, cream, panacotta) was delicious there was not much of it, certainly not £8.50 worth ! Five halved strawberries, three small teaspoons of cream and three bits of a broken biscuit, although tasty, does not justify the cost. Also sample Sunday menu needs updating. Was looking forward to rhubarb, which was not available. Update website weekly with real menu, sample is not good enough, to avoid disappointing clients.

Met up with family for a lunch in the garden. Very good food and service and Covid precautions felt very safe. Excellent ribs, fish & chips and steak. Nice Ramsbury Gold Ale too. Nice weather helped.

We met our family for the first time for 6 months, at this great pub. Delicious food, very happy atmosphere and friendly and efficient service. They have managed to turn the garden into a really lovely restaurant. Definitely worth another visit.

The Royal Oak at Yattendon has adapted the pub to the Covid situation by creating a covered eating area with heating in the garden. The food remains of the very high standard for which it is well known. We were a party of 6, 2...

Marvellous sunny day and a late lunch of rib steak in the garden made the journey to Yattendon very worthwhile.

- Superb chef produces excellent restaurant food - don't expect a Ploughman's here! Great variety on the menu and well priced. The restaurant interior is well designed with plenty of space for distancing and I noticed two beautiful alcoved rooms for more privacy, for birthdays,...

We are regulars at The Royal Oak and tonight’s service and food was to say the least, utterly disappointing!! When we were seated at the table we were handed our knifes & forks like we were eating in a stable!! The waiter didn’t even make...

Sadly fell way below its usual high standards. Understaffed and if that is a COVID issue, then fine, but don’t take as many covers. Staff could not keep up. Wine bottles unceremoniously dumped at one end of table and not even dispersed amongst guests. White...

We knew of the Royal Oak as we live only 45min away and have had a drink there before Covid. Decided to get away from dreary routines and book a room + dinner - we were not disappointed. Young staff were very attentive & friendly...

We were looking for a restaurant in the area to meet up with family and a friend recommended The Royal Oak. As two of our party were shielding during the pandemic because of medical conditions we needed somewhere that we felt was as 'Covid secure'...

My partner and I were heading home (West Sussex) after a lovely weekend spent in Worcestershire, and we craved a good roast. I went onto Google and up came 'Award-winning Hare & Hound. We popped it in the Sat Nav and we were not disappointed by the impromptu food stop. All the staff were incredibly attentive and genuinely so friendly. My partner had the roast beef and I, the roast chicken. We both said it was one of the best roasts we've ever had. To my delight, you can get complimentary Yorkies (my fav) and Roasties so I took advantage of this! Such a delicious meal and overall relaxing, nicely presented spot for Sunday Roast.
