Stunning little place we found whist visiting the area for a couple of days.. amazing old Tudor building with a lot of history that the staff can tell you about. We were looked after by Karl & Anna. Fabulous service, and the setting is gorgeous, in a garden that has a stream running through, we were lucky the weather was so nice. Dog friendly and looks like an amazing menu, only wished we'd stayed for something to eat

Lots if items on the menu were not available. Nice surroundings pleasant staff. Male toilet absolutely stank of urine. Would I go again, I'm not sure.

Return visit to The Swan in Newbury. A very warm welcome from Josh. Found out he has only been there a couple of weeks, and you can see the changes. He has had the garden benchs painted, the entrance hall painted. Also, the outside walls around the doors have been spruced up!! He seems to be making his mark on this pub. I had lunch there, and the food was served quickly despite it being quite busy. But sadly I didn't have time for one of their many desserts. But I'Il be back again!!

Ordered food- kitchen not open. Refunded my money but have to wait up to 5 days for my money to come back to me! Didn’t refund my tip for the meal! Not coming back here- I have a hungry child and still have to feed him and less money in my bank to do so- not impressed!

Stopped by this pub, on the way home and was not disappointed. Stopped at 16.00 and it was very busy, ran out off a few items included roast beef, but the lamb and mixed roast with 5 different vegetables potatoes a yorkie and extra gravy could not be faulted. Sauce was offered straight away. Badger beer was very good too

Booked a table for dinner online. Drove half an hour to be told the kitchen was closed on bank holidays. So why offer the booking in the system. Wasted my time and petrol. Sort your stuff out Hall & Woodhouse.

Had a lovely meal here with my family to celebrate a birthday. The food and service were both great. We will be back as very much enjoyed it.

A great lunch for my husbands 60th birthday.The waitress was so professional,kind and the chef sent out a free dessert with candles & happy Birthday on. Food was delicious and there was a nice break in between courses,which was so relaxing. A great way to end birthday celebrations.

Fantastic experience with my family, great food, great choice and really personal service. There are not enough places like this, offering a great experience without excessive pricing. The menu has plenty of options, some of the favourites that pleased my teenagers but also more refined options. Atmosphere and environment also good. Honestly, the experience was hard to fault, thank you.

We went for a quick dinner ,first we were put in an area with a lot of families and a lottt of kids, don't get me wrong we a young couple we just wanted a quiet quick dinner, eventually I asked if we can be moved as was sick a noise... initially they said no as fully booked but were plenty of tables ,anyway they did move us, in an area were was freezing cold I didn't take my jacket off. Food was nice tho. But atmosphere not for us.

Service good. Food tasty although some vegetables in roast dinners were not that warm. Clean environment.

Came here for last minute booking for Sunday lunch to adults and the puppy the food is fresh made on site and taste was amazing I had the trio of meats with a patte starter and eat a mess for dessert all were packed with flavor and well worth the money all the staff were helpfull and polite and evan brought my pup a water bowl without being prompted a real nice welcome touch cant wait for sunday for a repeat

Have actually been here a few times but had two lunches in the last month. Excellent beer and perfectly good burger with a nice chicken liver pate. My daughter loved her ice cream and the service was excellent. Good outside space a swell.

The food was excellent, the location pretty inside and out and the staff very friendly and helpful. Just a shame that no staff were wearing face masks nor visors. Don't know why, but we didn't need to do track & trace??

Service was excellent. They even sung happy birthday to my husband. :) Staff were very helpful & approachable. Food was great including kids menu. It is a lovely place. I highly recommend them. They are also well organised when it comes to government guidelines for COVID.

With a pub local to us owned by the same brewery we were a little reluctant as the food is always hit and miss but with the Eat out to help out initiative meant that choice was limited as we were out for the day. Everything was spot on! Covid restrictions well applied, staff were superb and friendly but it was the food that really surpassed expections, Hot, fresh and tasty! So impressed that we will be making the 40 minute drive in future rather than using the local pub in future.

We always feel safe at the Swan Inn as their C-19 procedures have been thought through and work well. There is also visible regular cleaning of the tables. We wish all such public establishments would take the same amount of care.

First time visit. Booked a table today without any issues. Staff were attentive and helpful. Beer was well looked after. The food was disappointingly average despite having had high expectations. It was bland and without taste. I would like to think that it was a one off, however, probably will not revisit for a while.

Having made two visits and tried six different dishes we can whole heartedly recommend the Swan (and the Fursty Ferret was good too).

Lovely surrounding and very covid friendly.Food was disappointing bland and average. Looked good but no substance and lots salt needed Staff were fantastic and attentive .Toilets were not checked as no loo rolls and sanitizer wouldn't work.Maybe a poor night but every course and we both had different meals was bland .Couldnt fault staff looking at teviews a mixed bag but a fair few have said tasteless and it certainly was .Maybe give it another try when next in area.

MEET UP WITH FAMILY for Sunday lunch but very disappointed portions we're large but roast potatoes very dry and tasteless veg hard Yorkshire puds burnt did tell a staff member who just said will tell chef at £13.95 and £14.95 expected better. £ 111.35 spent

We visited Swan for the first time for dinner and were very pleasantly impressed with this pub. The service was friendly and attentive and food was very good. We had Brie and beetroot tart, chicken and leak pie and a burger and then everyone opted for sticky toffee pudding afterwards.The food was presented nicely and tasted amazing. Highly recommended.

Basic fish&chips sold as king prawn. Small amount. Pea on a side dish, not easy to get out of the pot. Sticky table.

We have always enjoyed coming here previously but I would now recommend it even more as I’m super impressed with their coronavirus measures. Felt very safe and as always, food was high quality. The Swan Inn has a great choice of both vegan and vegetarian options which you don’t often get in gastropubs similar to this. Staff are very polite, we were served quickly and overall had a lovely Saturday night. Brie and beetroot tart photoed.

The Swan Inn have put really clear and effective Covid procedures in place and once you’re at your table you don’t notice any difference to usual. We had a lovely meal, good vegan and veggie options. Waiting staff are helpful and friendly.

I met my sister and niece here yesterday to celebrate my 70th birthday. My niece made the arrangements ; she commented that staff went out of their way to ensure we would feel comfortable and we did. They were perfect. We had separate tables suitably distanced in a shady spot. The staff were helpful and the food very good.I was impressed with the Covid -19 arrangements. The burger was a cold, burnt dried out hockey puck.The goats cheese and walnut salad - what joke!! No walnuts for a start, just a handful of dreadful old lettuce and a slab of very cold goats cheese, and some drizzle of something - hard to eat, - scampi served in a bowl with about 8 burnt chipsThe chicken burger edible, but coldThey overcharged us - so we had the delight of paying full price for 5 meals, which we then had to go back and sort out a refund for from the gormless barman. It was one of those 50 percent off incentives, so CHECK YOUR TILL RECIEPTS AS WE PAID FULL PRICE! No one apologised when at 6:50 I wandered in to ask when the food was coming - the impatient girl running it said “it’s literally being plated up now” ...... well then?? Why are other tables being served ahead of us?It took 10 more mins and no apology.It was a crap experience all round and the food was appalling - save your money! Run away...

Back in the day before the Swan was refurbished, we used to eat there at least once a week. The refurbishment seemed to bring endless issues one of which was a menu that was far too complicated for a local pub. We haven't eaten here for a number of years now but after seeing more recent positive reviews we decided to give it another go. So glad we did. The new team are enthusiastic, welcoming and, even better, have devised a simple menu that is executed perfectly. Wholesome pub food in a lovely environment. This place deserves to succeed. Try it.

We arrived with 3 dogs and were greeted at the door by a happy manager, we were asked to register on the Wifi for tracking and led out to the garden with benches, tables and a flowing stream, we were advise the dogs could play in the stream and run wild, we just felt really wanted and how a customer should. As strange as it sounds, my family and I have a special place in our hearts for this pub. Our visits here have been during the best and the worst of times, and it’s now a tradition that whenever we get together in Newbury, we have a meal here. The service is always excellent, they let us book our favourite table without fail and dogs are allowed inside so the whole family can be together. The conversation and ambiance are second to none - you’ll pass hours in here without realising. Here’s to many more years of visits, sporadic as they may be!

An ad hoc visit with friends gorgeous food, with a small but extensive menu. We chose gammon, a house beef burger and I had the chicken,ham and leek pie with mash and green veggies the mash was lush and proper mash! Excellent friendly staff with attentive service! Desserts were varied and a waffle,sticky toffee and eton mess were selected followed by coffee! Wish we had found this gem of a pub on our first night in the area! Recommend a visit if you are nearby you won’t regret it!

Stopped for lunch on our way to Stratford upon Avon. Great to find somewhere with reasonable choice for vegetarians. My plant burger was delicious and chips were perfect. Daughter’s linguine pasta was great. The icing on the cake was an unexpectedly flaming tasty crème brûlée. Staff very friendly and attentive and all set up well for distanced eating.

We decided to stop at The Swan Inn on Saturday after a walk. This was our first time eating out since the lockdown so were a bit nervous. The pub was fantastic. We had to book online so they had all our contact details, inside was clearly laid out with one way systems and separate entrance/exits. There were hand sanitisers strategically placed, toilets had antibacterial wipes in, drinks were brought to the table on trays and you had to take them off and then they cleaned the trays straight away. We had a whole wing of the pub to ourselves, so no need to worry about other people. The even used alcohol wipes on the card machine when paying.The staff were amazing and the food was excellent to say the least, they catered brilliantly for one of our children who has food allergies. I would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone wondering what it is like now.

We visited with our grandson and we were very satisfied. Basically it is very good pub food in a comfortable and pleasing dining room. Friendly staff and good value for money. We ate at lunchtime. Plenty of parking space.

Having driven past this pub for years, we finally stopped for lunch. The staff were welcoming and efficient. The menu was varied and we chose typical pub food which was excellent. Portion size was spot on. Drinks were ordered and served at the table. The inn was clean. Truly hospitable. We won't wait so long to return!!

Excellent Sunday Roast- huge portions, very well cooked, well worth the money and friendly and attentive staff. Nice atmosphere and a great place to be on a wet and windy winter Sunday. Will definitely be back.

Four ladies met for delicious lunch on Thursday - great atmosphere and delicious food. The staff were very accommodating when one of us turned up with a dog and managed to find us an alternative table. Will definitely eat there again.

You won't find a friendlier pub, The food is amazing always on time plenty of it and if you need more or anything they are more than willing to help great place for al the family or just couples great atmosphere to.

We enjoyed a very tasty lunch with friends, my fidh finger sandwich was spot on, the goats cheese salad lovely and fresh and the chicken caesar with a fair amount of chicken. Good service, is a little pricey but a lovely pub.

We visited last night, we had a very nice evening. The Swan is very nice, it has a friendly atmosphere. Nice and clean inside too. The man on duty was very attentive and friendly. Food was good too. We are definitely going back, regularly! 😁

there was 21 of us for lunch, with many different menu choices and they coped really well. the portions were excellent size, and the quality good, nice friendly staff, who did not bat an eyelid when we all paid separatly. would definatly go here again

We were a party of 4, and were all completely happy with the quality of our meals, and with the service,, friendly and welcoming.

Went to the pub at lunchtime with 10 work colleagues. We pre ordered and were greeted warmly, seated quickly and the starters came out in a timely fashion. So all good there. Starters were good, but when the main came we were a little overwhelmed about the size. The chicken and bacon was huge as were the size of the fish cakes. But some of the flavours weren’t quite there. The fish cakes lacked salmon and were very bland and mostly potato and dill, the mash in the beef bourginguon was grainy. The deserts were equally large and the creme brûlée was more custard than anything else. Quite a lot of food left and we weren’t asked whether everything was ok. So just missed the mark. But they did cater for one vegan in our party.

This meal was very good and sensible sized portions, very good selection of beers. Fish and chips excellent

We often come here for lunch before going to the Retail Park and their lunches are always good. The service is good the food is hot and it is good value. We will be continuing to come here. Thank you.

We have just got back from a great meal at The Swan Inn! It was ideal because it about 1/2 way between us and our daughter and her boyfriend. Staff were really friendly, attentive but did not rush you. Really nice, relaxed atmosphere and food was delicious. Great selection on the menu. Loved how you even got a bottle of water at the table which was topped up as it ran out! We'll definitely be back and will use it as our midway meeting point! Thank you.

Found this amazing place last year coming off the A34. What a find. This was our second visit. The staff are all amazing, nothing was too much effort, they played with the dogs, they served us with big happy smiles and to top it off the food was amazing, i went for the triple roast. Wow, still full a day later.Would recommend this place to anyone, i really cant say thank you enough, never felt so welcomed in a pub ever, and trust me i have been in a lot.See you all again soon.

We were traveling home from s couple of days away and needed an evening meal I had passed the swan before and decided to give it a go. We arrived and were plesently greeted on arrival and given a choice of seating. We selected our table and perused the meanu there was a nice variety and pricing was resonable we made our choice and ordered. The meal arrived and it was hot and well presented, the food tastes as good as it looked the staff were happy and not over attentive. We left happy to return on the future

4 of us, one whom had a dairy allergy, booked a table here. What a wonderful experience, just like service used to be. Personal, caring, and comprehensive. Our chap with the allergy, wanted bangers and mash, and the chef went to the trouble of making a fresh batch of mash especially for him. Now THAT, is service above and beyond.The food was good. Mixed grill was wonderfully cooked and delicious. Beers were also tasty, and came quickly to the table. Our server was predicting the empty glass and immediately offering to refill. Superb.Will definately come back.

A friend recommended the Swan Inn for Sunday lunch as they had always had a good meal there. It was a great recommendation. There was a very relaxed atmosphere there but the staff were very attentive and efficient. Three of us had the roast lunch, my husband had the mixed grill and my other son had the pasta special dish. We all received a very good sized portion and the food was delicious. With the roast we had 5 different types of vegetable and 2 very large Yorkshire puddings. There was a substantial menu but the food was all freshly cooked. There is plenty of parking and I can imagine it is a great place to eat in the summer as there is an attractive outside space too. Will definitely be going back.

Staff was friendly enough only not updated about there Xmas menu or times. Food seemed to be very bland no taste to a prawn cocktail scampi served in a tin bowl . Portions were very small for the price .

We were fortunate enough for a break in the weather to allow us to sit by the stream and eat our lunch. So lovely ! Service was good and food was nice and well presented. It’s a shame previous thieves have stopped other honest people being able to have a tab if you’re sitting outside ! Lovely place to meet my friend for a catch up.

Turned up in person with dine card but weren't interested as we didn't phone before hand, would rather lose the custom that was right in front of them and possible future custom-very shortsighted.I can thoroughly recommend The Carnarvon Arms up the road.

Traditional style in next to river , staff very friendly and food was excellent. Badger beers available as well, win win.

Living not too far from the Swan we’ve visited a a few occasions this summer. Every visit was great, with lovely staff , great service and the food brilliant.

We was passing and this pub looked very inviting .Nice flowers outside ..very clean a lovely warm welcome upon arrival .food was excellent.alice,rhianna,joe and the rest of the team were outstanding.would highly recommend this venue for nice relaxing meal .thankyou team for a great evening .

We needed somewhere for lunch and found this little gem. The staff were courteous and friendly, the food was good and the ale was well kept. There is plenty of room inside and a lovely garden. We will be adding this to our return to list.

Lovely pub in a lovely setting with an awesome waitress. Can’t complain about food, setting or value. In fact the whole meal was perfect until the bill came. Manager comes over with bill and as we are working out payment he comes over trying to hurry our payment to seat new customers becoming stressed and full of attitude, pressuring myself and my wife to the point she had to walk out for fear of crying. Would’ve recommended. Not anymore

We both had fish and chips. Fish was so stale it tasted manky. It was good to start with, but after a few mouthfuls it became obvious that the fish was just not fresh. A real shame because the staff were great and the setting was lovely. Get the food right and you would have a great combination.

Lovely pub, great food, great service. We stopped here to meet up with family on our way to Cornwall! I would recommend this pub and will stop again when in that part of the Country!

A charming inn just south of Newbury, with a lovely garden (although you could hear traffic noise when sat outside). Attentive service and decent food. Good kids menu for the children. The mains were slightly over-priced but nothing too dramatic.

The staff were attentive and polite but the food is very mediocre and not cheap. Bravely one of our party ordered a chicken Cesar salad and paid £13 for limp salad leaves, stale bread not croutons and some chicken. If all the dishes were @ £5 cheaper then whilst still not great food would at least be better value! Won’t be going back.

Visited twice now, Sunday Lunch and weekday evening- both visits excellent service, food and atmosphere- will definitely be recommending to family and friends and hope to return again soon!

The Location and grounds are beautiful with a great atmosphere but we were disappointed with the quality of the food considering how expensive it was. I had Seabass (£17) with crushed potatoes. I've had m,much better elsewhere for less. Same with the Steak, Miller and Carter price but nowhere near the quality.Would not go back for food, drinks probably.couldnt fault the service though.

Fantastic place, great service and the place is very cozy! Best fish & chips I had in UK, we will be back for sure! All starters where just what we needed and desserts amazing! Keep on doing good and the best thing is that it was open on Sunday at 5:30pm when all other places where closed. A perfect way to end your Sunday!

This place has character for miles on top of great drinks. It's super close to Highclere Castle, which makes it an easy post-Highclere stop off.

Had a lovely Sunday Lunch, However one meal came without vegetables and we also ordered the Lamb and pork arrived instead, they did change this and apologised. The food was very nice little expensive for a Sunday Lunch and maybe they should have more staff on so they make less mistakes.

The Swan Inn serves delicious homemade food with fresh vegetables. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient.

Service very friendly but let down by poor food. Ordered fish and chips for myself and goats cheese salad for my wife. Fish and chips very greasy and grease proof paper stuck to fish so had to pick it off before I could eat it. My wifes goats cheese salad came up with no cheese on it, they took it away and brought it back with goats cheese straight from the fridge that was extremely hard. I have eaten in a number of Hall and Woodhouse pubs and overall, would say that this was the worst food I have been served. Shame really, as the service was good and the setting is nice. Would I eat here again? I don't know really. Maybe if I was in the area I might give it a go again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Varied menu, we went mid week so although quite busy not over crowded. The service was good and friendly. Menu varied with a good range of choices. We all (4) really enjoyed what we ordered from starters to puds. Will certainly go again.

It was the Saturday of the Easter weekend. A beautiful day !Sat in their garden by the stream, eating a very pleasant lunch indeed ! I had the chicken in a mushroom sauce. It was excellent and the size of the portion of chicken was highly commendable. Have eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed. See you again in the Summer, I am sure.

Called in as we were passing and really glad we did! A friend and I were on our way to Oxford and thought we'd get a better choice than in a service station if we came off the main route and we were right! I had a starter portion of homemade fishcake (does come as a main course) and it was delicious. Great service, despite the fact it was very busy. Thank you!

The evening started well being welcomed and sat in the quaint restaurant area of the pub. Our waiter got the order wrong but no biggie we all make mistakes. As an apology our waitress bought drinks on the house (she’s was lovely all evening) the food was great, we had beef bourguignon and chicken Caesar salad. It wasn’t until the bill that we hadn’t problems where a male member of staff (I can only assume a manager due to different uniform to rest of staff) was plain rude claiming any cash we tried with was fake making us pay on card. Not a big deal if he had a note tester, however he simply took my notes, looked at them and said “nah that’s fake mate” which is extremely annoying when they have been counted out in front of you in barclays. They were very unlikely to be fake and yet he insisted we didn’t use cash. Simply no need for this petty behaviour from this unknown gentleman. Other than this it was good and as already stated our waitress was fantastic. Unfortunately we didn’t get her name but you know who you are, thanks for making us feel welcome and sorry your colleague let you and the team down :)

We arrived around 1.45 for a late lunch, the place was crowded but still room for two in the bar area. We ordered sausages on an open ciabatta with whole grain mustard and honey. When it came we couldn’t find the ciabatta for chips!! The whole meal was delicious, the sausages were split down the middle and beautifully cooked; the chips were also delicious. A rather large lunchtime snack but totally worth it!!

On a long journey up to Loughborough from Shaftesbury, our map app found this pub for us. It was lovely, great food, great staff and lovely atmosphere. They have a lovely kids menu and the food was prepared quickly and it was delicious.

Stopped on way back from racing. Great looking place. And staff very friendly. Food was ok but nothing special. Steaks a little chewy but cooked well for medium rare! The beer was not right but changed without a problem although they told us that was how it should taste. Having drunk many many bitter beers I can assure you it was not right!
