The best restaurants in Chiltern South East

Took over 1hr 40 mins still waiting. When I rang to ask where it was I was told that If I complain font order from us again...very rude...

A menu came through our door so we decided to give it a try having seen good reviews on here. The food was very disappointing. A watery daal, the chicken tikka massala also came in a thin and unappealing sauce, no mango chutney was provided for the poppadoms. The tandoori mixed grill was average at best. Good to try something different but unfortunately the food was poor and we won't be coming back.

2 people running a bar with 10 people in it. Dry, overpriced food, warm white wine, dog mess in the garden, glasses and old used plates of half eaten food lying around. Makes one sad to be English.

Excellent service, but I guess I must have been unlucky with the food. The Harte has a reputation for its fish and chips. My fish was the largest I’ve had, although not as large as my colleague’s. The oil must have been too hot, because the skin was not quite burnt enough to return it, whilst the flesh was only just cooked. The chips were small, and at first I thought they were undercooked, because they were barely coloured and the insides were stodgy - a replacement serving was very little different. It seems the chips used can never be cooked to crisp outside and a fluffy centre. Won’t order again

Where do I start….. food was 20minutes early and cold. We informed the restaurant to leave food at the back of our home yet the delivery driver continued to bang on our front door until, I believe, he actually read the note and left the food at the back. Meat in the starter was undercooked, naan was undercooked, potatoes were over cooked and the chicken was undercooked and not fresh (had a greyish look about them). All our food was inedible, resulting in organising a dinner before the football! We’ll be applying for a full refund!! First time we have ordered here and it was the worst Indian take out we’ve had. Never ordering here again!

Love it and love boss man the workers are so kind and the food is always good love Peri Peri just the one bad thing is the Incconcistant delivery times but appart from that it's great

I have been a regular takeaway customer of this place for years, but not any more. They missed a dish from my order today and took no responsibility whatever, simply referring me to an app based in Manchester when the order was placed on their website. Apparently I have to write a letter to get a refund. Sorry, but that’s not how it works. They don’t give a fig about customer service. Absolutely shameless.

The pub is very picturesque, great location and the landlord very friendly and welcoming, but alas...no vegetarian food options. Landlord offered to throw something together which he did. Chips, mushrooms and a salad (no dressing though, just leaves). I would recommend menuwise to include vegetarian and vegan options. Nowadays it is something that one has to offer in a menu for all customers to be happy.

I have just had a phone call from my elderly parents & they have asked me to write a review on their behalf. They visited yesterday, Saturday 13th November ‘21 for a light lunch at midday. They both asked for a bowl of soup & whilst the soup was tasty they were both absolutely aghast when the bill arrived. £18.00 for 2 bowls of soup. Yes, you read that correctly, £9.00 for a small bowl. When they asked the waiter why it was so expensive the reply was “It is homemade” Of course it’s homemade, it’s a restaurant. I have been in the restaurant business many years & unless you are ordering soup in a Michelin Star restaurant the price charged at this establishment is shocking. I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews but my parents feel so aggrieved by this that they have asked me to post this for them.

No longer serve pork dishes which is a disappointment as the pork ribs used to be excellent. Didn't really taste like an authentic Chinese meal.

We had dinner booked for Saturday evening. (18th) The restaurant did not enough staff to reflect the needs of the paying customers. Took far too long to take our drinks orders, too long to clear near by tables- left for over 30 minutes. Steak was very nice but not to order- cooked too much for a medium rare. Sticky toffee pudding arrived stone cold in the middle. This was sent back. Staff were very busy, running around. They were all pleasant and helpful- but run ragged. Not the vibe I would expect when we pay so much for the food. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant for a dinner service. We paid £170 Breakfast in the morning was a pleasant experience. Lots of staff on hand and food was nice.

We'd asked out neighbours where they got takeaway from, this was the first one they suggested! So we ordered it that very night! Sadly our driver got very lost and they had to phone us for directions! But we redirected them and our piping hot pizzas were soon safe in our mitts! Seriously decent takeaway pizza! Generous Toppings & a nice thin base! Hopefully when we order again they'll know where we are this time!

The Red Lion was already our go-to when in the area visiting family and on a super-busy Sunday at Christmas they did not let us down. Family festive booking for 21. Age range 10-83. Every member of staff smiling, welcoming & patient. Food excellent as always (no mean feat when dealing with these numbers) and service efficient & accurate from start to finish. Thank you so much to all at The Red Lion for giving us such a super afternoon.

A proper traditional pub, no flashing lights or musac. Great food. Well located for walking in the Chilterns - well whatt is left of them after HS2 has had a go at it
